You could probably summarize this as: The RX is the bike most people think they want, while the X is the bike most people actually need. A couple extra things Both these bikes also have larger radiators than their contemporary MX bikes to combat overheating. The RX has a slightly larger fuel tank (2.1 gal), with about a pint of more capacity than the X. The X has a dash with a trip meter, and can also show how much fuel you've used. It also has a 'low fuel' warning light, handy for the relatively small tank. (Honda's 450 lineup actually features 7 different bikes if you count the Anniversary Edition, the dual sport model is the 'RL', not the 'L'.)
@@CatholicCrusader__30 7.6 litres, but part of that is a reserve to keep the fuel pump submerged. It will begin to sputter after using approximately 7.2 litres riding on level ground.

Was studying them at the dealer the other day and noticed. 450X, 250r, 250x in my garage so I definitely nerd out for Big Red.
What would you think about a $7,000 2022 450RX for farm use and casual riding? I'm pretty much only considering used bikes because the new prices are too high for me!
Now that all the Japanese bikes are over $10k there is no reason to still be using cable clutches. I'm glad that most other bikes aren't bothering with California compliance.
Alot of people like and prefer them. I still do many people who grew up riding and are over 20 will prefer them it was never hard to pull in the clutch it’s adorable how soft people have become.
I have two 450X 's as well as a 450RX. I have all of them registered and insured for street use. I added Tusk Light Kits to all my bikes, Trail Tech Vapors on my 450X's and a Trail Tech Voyager on my 450RX. I added new exhausts, Sicass key switches as well as Baja Designs LED headlights. I love Honda motorcycles!
@dreyrider6737 it really depends on the type of terrain that you're riding in. I ride in NJ (more single track and technical riding) which is great for the 450RX and also ride in Nevada (desert riding which is more high speed) which is better for the 450X. I just wish that the 450RX had the elusive 6th gear for riding at higher speeds since it's a close ratio 5 speed transmission.
I have a 2022 450 x and less than a hundred miles and it decided to throw coolant up on a slow technical trail ride with the kids . Flameout seems to be a new staple for a 10k bike . Fyi i got one for sale to say the least .
Ride the KLR650 in single track for a few days and the crf450x will feel like a toy, especially if it was lowered a bit. I think the high seat height makes it feel heavier than it is. The Crf300l is 300lbs, and it feels pretty light. Plus once you replace the stock exhaust and get rid of unnecessary emissions components, which most people do, it will be even lighter. Also, most people install a vortex ecu and now its a fire breather, whith more compliant suspension for 150lbs er's like me and it has a six speed tranny. Far better machine for true offroaders and it can be licensed in most states.
@@christopherh1327 of course it makes u and others safe on the road. If you travel alot especially. No one can see a vehicle with no light at night. And its better if Honda made a brake light for the X instead of a ordinary light they have rn.
Spark arrestor? Here in cali half our ohv parks are on forresty.... Can I buy a rx ecu and put it in the x? Is the question.. for it to be green sticker I'm sure it's tune is locked. So can we bypass and still have a green sticker modern bike.. that's all anyone really wants to know here.
That is actually a great question. A few shops in SoCal are RX/X masters (AHM, Precision Concepts, San Diego Power House) and will likely have answers for you.
I have a road legal CRF450RX .. 2023 (supplied road legal with plates , horn , fan etc ) im in Portugal but thanks to Red Moto it’s available across Europe ..

@tee8599 yeah the X is better for slower stuff. I put a rad fan on mine and it's way better. I ride with slower machines and it does just fine. Great bike
@tee8599 no,the RX is a fair bit more power and taller sprocket. But I bought you'd probably use all of the power of the X. Looking back I'd have ordered a new X instead of the RX.

Any idea if the 450x has the same problems that I keep hearing about the RL? Twitchy throttle, flameouts, etc?

My YZ clutch is just as smooth as my 23 300xc. I prefer the feel of a cable, hydro is more on off like a light switch.
@vanzepplin1 I like the hydraulic, but grew up on cables. Either is just fine.
I desperately want that 6spd wide ratio transmission and headlight without the extra 24lbs
Us too!
Agreed !!
what are the weight features on my X I can remove to make it closer to the RX?
The R X should come with a headlight

The last CA green sticker bike was a 2017 model. 2018 all models became red sticker. 2022 all models get no ohv sticker here in California
Fantastic review thank you

Still leaning towards a 450r putting on a hi-flow water pump, oversized radiators and guards and a fan. And being doing with it.
If i were to buy the x how do i remove all of the California stuff that adds extra weight
Take off the smog and put on a performance muffler. Six gears are nice.

Do you think the 450RX could podium the 25+ B class in NGPC?
I think it would be the rider, not the bike, holding back the results.
I could get that thing on the podium, easy.
