I just like to imagine during one of the clashes between Gol D roger and Garp they both fell asleep out of nowhere

They are both about to clash swords in a parallel of white beard/shanks but half way through the swing they both fall asleep and stop dead in there tracks while both crews jaws drop and start screaming
That would not shock me if they did that. Just konk out at the moment their fists were about to collide woke up hours later and go "Shit! Did we pass out again?" Meanwhile their respective crews are looking at each other like "So your boss does that too?" "Yep... Unfortunately..."

So to put a couple of arguments against what I said:
- In that flashback with Roger, I think Whitebeard asked him the meaning of ‘D’ more out of curiosity, and also because he already had a man in his crew with that name (Teach). If Whitebeard was actually Edwar D. Newgate, it wouldn’t make much sense if he didn’t mention that to Roger, rather than saying that one of crew members had a ‘D’ in his name.
- Whitebeard didn’t die with a smile, he died looking serious as fuck after his last words

Dragon possibly do it. Having faith in his top officers to carry on the revolution that he created. The only possible way that I can see Garp dying with a smile is when he finally killed or fatally injured Sakazuki.

My theory is relating to the theory of the D's being the former inhabitants of the Ancient Kingdom. I believe that this was a far more advanced Kingdom which might actually have been based in Raftel, the final island. Whether this advancement was technological, philosophical or militaristic could be up for debate (though it could be a mixture of each) as I sort of suspect them to have been the ones to create or at least possess those ancient weapons. We know that there were 20 kings from 20 kingdoms that would form what is now the World Government and they have gone to great lengths to ensure none learn of the void century or this ancient Kingdom which leads me to believe that out of fear and jealousy, those kings united to destroy the Ancient Kingdom. They did not manage to wipe out all the D's however who managed to scatter across the world. As stated there is a strong theme to inherited will, no fear of death and just a propensity to oppose authority, particularly they have a habit of fighting world nobles such as Luffy punching a Celestial Dragon as well as taking on Doflamingo (though he was no longer a noble technically). Deep down I believe it's in the nature of the D's to push back against those who wiped out their ancestral home and their culture, even if they do not truly understand it. They inherited the will to never submit and to forever live free, until perhaps the day comes when one might return to take down the World Government.
This might be why Roger did what he did in the end. After all, he reached Raftel, he and his crew know the true history and the meaning of the name D. Roger must of known that as he was not long for the world he would set things into motion that would fulfill this sort of prophecy if you will. He was too ill to be the D that they needed, but if he sparked enough chaos, such as ushering in the Golden Age of Piracy, eventually another D would reach the island, learn the truth, and be the one to bring retribution on those who seek to dominate the world.

will of D. is already said everywhere lol. D. stands for devil, the sworn enemy of gods. Luffy's idealism is freedom from dogma and freedom of exploration. This is Luciferianism. Lucifer is extraterrestrial from Venus but then other celestials schemed to rule over earth. The invaders descendants are Celestial Dragons, which is why they ware space suits. Void century is war of Heavens, Lucifer& his people (civilians) vs gods & their people (kings, aristocrats etc). Yes, Oda believes Christian or Catholic are evil for causing all the religious wars, supporting monarchy, deceiving history etc. Luciferianism is the closest to liberal democracy and freedom of science. He also believes wars happened in other planets in solar system and their civilization settled on earth, ruling the planet in shadows behind religions. I got stoned and thought that Oda calling Luffy, "Lucy", and his name is just another way of saying Lucifer, and it is all over this anime. So there must be a connection between the devils taking down the world nobels carrying the will that founded the fruit powers.

Interesting video on an interesting topic! My personal thought on the Will of D is that perhaps a D.'s will is so strong that even fate bends and shifts to allow their goals to be achieved, but in return, great personal sacrifices need to be made. Inherited will is also an interesting concept because it is more universal, but maybe D.'s are known for it because in general, their wills or willpower is stronger than common folks, hence why they are able to both inspire non-D.'s to do amazing things and take up seemingly impossible causes. There's a lot of mystery here and I can't wait to learn more.

He represents rebellion from dogma and other elements of control. Oda got inspired from the old testaments to write One piece as he said on SBS. People believe that being Luciferian or Satanist means worshipping the devil himself, but it is not. They just want to get rid of all elements of control that can be abused by human desire. It is pretty evident there also are tenryubito like individuals in our society, manipulating natural resource prices(such as oil), interest rates international financial institution, and politics in order to maintain the validity of tax system which allow the 'government' to collect money without economic contribution. No matter how you embellish current system, the world is corrupt as long as tax systems and terrotorialism remains. That is why pirate king Luffy's role is to free all borders and achieve All Blue.
No 20 kings of world government are actual devils who took powers from the Devil clan and promises devils to give the throne of the world. Out of 20 kings one of the kingdom named Alabasta betrayed 20 kings and informed Joy Boy from Ancient Kingdom who stood for justice and equality and had a huge and powerful Navy. Since then they got devil fruit powers and defeated the ancient Kingdom, the ancient kingdom before getting destroyed made polegylphs which has true history of the world. Like this ancient kingdom where all races lived peacefully splitted into different kingdoms. King of Ancient kingdom died fighting against 20 kings. After destroying world's strongest kingdom all the kings formed world government and started calling themselves gods and started living in Marie Jois. Since Navy had no justice they started serving their new master"the so called gods Celestial dragons". Roger said that 2 people will be born after 10 years(Shirahoshi who will become a weapon to destroy celestial dragons and Luffy who will surpass Roger and turn this world upside down). And that's how the saga began....

I think luffy is a direct reincarnation of roger, and I think they have some understanding of it if only on a instinctual level. That's why luffy was instantly obsessed with becoming the pirate king so he could pick up where he left off. I think Raleigh also knows about it from talking to roger before and that's why he was basically waiting for luffy and then took the initiative to travel all the way to hancocks to teach haki to someone who was basically a stranger for the most part.

D stands for Dawn. As in, the "dawn of this world" that ends the endless night (alluded to in chap 973 and back in Pedro's flashback prior to his death). Those with it smile when they die because they know that someone will carry on their will after they die :)

Theory: Remember at the reverie we saw a giant Strawhats? I reckon that strawhat was owned by Joyboy who was either the king or prince of the old ancient kingdom. I reckon after the 20 nations defeated the old ancient kingdom the D clan were ordered to disperse and that 800 years later their time for revenge would come. Also, those with the name of D's significan will echo through out the entire 800 years. As a sign of respect all those in the D clan took a strawhat but overtime they got lost or destroyed and so far the last one made its way to Luffy
Also another throwy is that Nefertari family were fooled into joining the alliance of 20 and thus refused to migrate to the homes of the Celesterial Dragon.

I really do think that the ancient kingdom ruled the world benevolently as a collective. A group of 20 kingdoms got greedy and started an uprising that eventually led to the destruction of the ancient kingdom. It also began a world wide manhunt for those who beared the Initial D out of fear that the clan would rise up and retake their kingdom. The task force for this manhunt would later go on to become the Navy. And at the center of it all is the immortal being known as Im, the False King. You know how they always say: "D is the enemy of God"? That's what I mean. And I also believe that the strawhat is the only physical remainder of the ancient kingdom culture.
Since romanized Raftel is "Laugh Tale", there seems to be another room of speculation for the bearer of D. D is probably from Laugh Tale and it just refers to this emoticon ->> :D

Luffy defied garp, law defied doflamingo, saul defied the marines, Ace defied the world and the marines are having a tough time controlling garp. etc Maybe their inheritance is to defy anything that wants to claim authority over them, which ultimately leads the to celestial dragons/tenryuubito. And most definitely something beyond that, still unknown I think.

Hmm I wonder if since characters like shanks, Whitebeard, and Rayleigh who all know where the one piece is didn’t go for it because they don’t have the dreams and aspirations of someone who carries the will of D. Or maybe because they want someone who carries the will of d to find it.
Actually, even world government knows where final island is. But it's extremely dangerous to ride the currents into the core of planet to change the landscape for all blue.
I like to believe that the members of the Will of D. are actually relatives of the crew of JoyBoy and all the crew decided to have D as their middle name to make them closer to each other. Also other than the D in their names they donned straw hats (hence why there is a giant straw hat (it belonged to the relative of Jaguar D Saul))

Robin was saved by a D. who told her to go and find a group of true friends. She ends up inheriting this will and winds up on the ship of Luffy also inheriting his will to become the King of all pirates
It would be interesting to see if Robin has the middle initial D, since it does fit, and maybe her family hid the name, and how she learned to read the poneglyphs, maybe because of her family history being one of the inheritors of D, a sort of gift to read a poneglyph at a young age, Nico D Robin, a person born from the family of D, and how the family ended up trying to uncover the void century, it all fits too well, and maybe its just me but would that be cool to know that Robin inherited the will of D, to learn the 800 years of nothingness?

I think the will of D is best explained in the skypeia arc shortly before they head to upper yard it is said that their desire for adventure is deadly to some effect and i truly believe that is the will of D. The desire to adventure even outweighs the desire to live.
