My son is gay. No problem with that at all. His brothers are fine with it too. In high school friends of his were coming out and being disowned. We don't have much. What we have to offer these guys is a place to sleep and shower, unconditional acceptance and a friendly face when they need it. Over the years we've had 6 young people (there are gay women too!) stay with us and watched them get through their life in high school. They are to a one incredible people! Don't throw away family. When I was a server, all the homeless people got sent to my section because I usually worked the back section or counter. I would buy them a cup of coffee as refills were free, and they could camp out as long as they wanted as long as we didn't need the booth. I would be left notes of kindness, drawings, and little trinkets by these guests. No human being should have to be turned away just because they are unhoused.

I used to work at a pizza in a town with a lot of unhoused and underfed people. But the town also had rules about just giving away leftover food, which meant we had a ton of food waste we could not legally distribute to people who needed it most. The owner of the store didn't like that, so at the end of the night, we would "throw away" all the cancelled and unclaimed pizzas by nicely stacking them in the general vicinity of the dumpsters (but not actually near the dumpsters. Just close enough for plausible deniability.) They were always gone by the next morning.
I think about that a lot. Dude was the best boss I ever had and impacted me so much more than I could have ever expected

While everyone else was clapping and cheering, my five year old daughter leaned over to me and said "Can boys marry boys?" I told her yes, and that girls could also marry girls. She paused, then started beaming and said "I'm going to marry Isla (her best friend) then". I told her as long as Isla was cool with it, then I was happy. It makes me happy thinking that maybe my daughter will grow up not being afraid to be herself to her family, because she won't know any different.

A friend/roommate "came out" to me. This was back in the mid 80s, so things were much more difficult for my gay friends. Also... bible belt... so...
Anyway, she didn't know how to start, but wanted me to know because she was living at my place and didn't want to hide her girlfriend from me.
She started with, "I have to tell you something, but I don't know how. I'm scared you'll kick me out..."
My response was, "Ok... step by step. Did you kill someone?"
    "... uh... no."
"Do you PLAN to kill someone, and will need my help hiding the body?" (obviously I was being sarcastic to make a point)
    "OH... NO!"
    "Ok then. Are you dying?"
    "... um... no..."
"Then it whatever it is, we can deal with it."
She says, "It's just... you should know... I'm gay."
I looked her in the eyes and said, "No shit. But what was the thing you were scared to tell me?"
Her eyes looked up in surprise, and said "That was it... I'm gay."
Me, "Oh. Well... that wasn't so bad. Bring ***** [her girlfried] to dinner one night. I'd like to get to know her better."
That was the most EPIC hug I ever got!
I kept her secret (she wasn't ready to be "all the way out") And, although we have lost touch over the decades, I still think of her often, and hope her life is wonderful.

He didn't tell anyone when he did realize it because he was afraid someone would let it slip to his mom. He was scared she would kick him out. When he finally told me, I smiled and told him I already knew, and he looked so relieved. And I never told his mom. I was just happy he knew he could trust me, and that I would still love him, no matter what.

The second story was my favourite because the poster reminds me of my own dad. I'd be willing to bet he still doesn't realise how much of an amazing dad he is, he likely still blames himself for being absent at first. He got clean for his kid, became a single dad to get his son out of a bad situation (like my dad did for me), supported his son in everything, was totally cool with having a gay son, allowed the boyfriend to stay during COVID and then opened his heart to another hurting "child". I don't know a better description for a father.

I later came out again at a later age, sadly after I lost my parents and my adopted parents were so incredibly supportive and so kind. It was such a beautiful circle for me, my mum's last words to me before she was permanently hospitalized and I didn't see her was I love you, whoever you may be or become and that meant so much to me. I have no anger towards my mum and my step dad not accepting me coming out to me as a child, but my mum sat by that to me has stayed with me my entire life. Great job on that dad 🫂❤️

Chuffed - delighted; pleased; satisfied. Faff - to make a fuss over nothing. Both are brilliant words.

Dustin, I just wanna say how much I admire that you are your decent, kind self in front of folks. The Green Flag stories are a much-needed antidote to the conflict-driven clickbait that social media has leaned into. These are actually a lovely study break! Thank you and all the best to you!

'chuffed' and 'faff' are both very british english words lol. 'chuffed' means super pleased/proud, and 'faff' has a lotta meanings but in this context you could equate it to 'bullshit' or 'nonsense'

Those english words that youve never heard are my favourite thing about being English, they are so much fun to say! Pelava is a good one, topsy turvy too! Great video man, big respect from across the pond!

Dude, what you said about a lot of restaurant managers being on weird power trips is so true. My dad used to be one of the managers--bar manager--at a restaurant (an exception to this power trip statement, lol), but his best friend at the time was the GM. HE was a menace. Employee turnover was crazy high because of how stressed everyone was walking on eggshells around him--including my dad, his supposed best friend--since they could never tell when GM was gonna be chill and friendly or when he was going to start screaming and belittling people for not doing their jobs properly (even though they were, he was just weirdly uptight for no reason seemingly at the drop of a hat). Eventually my dad couldn't take it anymore and walked out, just quit on the spot one day. It effectively ended their friendship, and once my dad--the buffer between the GM and rest of the staff--was gone, everyone started leaving in droves, including the other managers. Lol The sad part is that aside from his bouts of rage and tyranny, he was an excellent manager. The restaurant ran like a well-oiled machine and was number one in the company for several years because of him. He's unfortunately just an asshole with a hair trigger temper...

All I can say is thank you! I have been so depressed & scared for the past few months. These stories are the healthy distraction I need and a few good chuckles too. Thank you!

I’m just about to go to bed, and thought I’d finish the night with a 15 minute long upbeat video, and a jay, and then this video pops up in my feed! It’s a funny old life sometimes. ❤
