- This is perhaps the best rendition of the famous song of the 60's band, Procol Harum. It was performed in concert with the Danish National Concert Orchestra and Choir. The intro with orchestra rather than the iconic organ was a great surprise, perhaps an acknowledgment of Bach's Air on the G String root of the song. Though I miss the organ intro, I like the fact that it allowed Brooker to dictate the speed and the flow of the song in the first verse. With a more mature and now somewhat raspy voice, Brooker meandered freely through the first verse, evoking a rowdy night in the bar on a ship. It's pure magic and capturing.

The man was simply a god among musicians. "Pale" will never be bettered by anyone, ever. Quite simply, the greatest 45 that will ever be released.

So much to grieve, it’s still early days for Mrs Brooker . I truly loved Procol Harum from ‘67. It’s been very hard to lose Gary and Keith. B.J ‘s loss over years was was very mysterious but a huge loss too. Truly musical genius’ all 3. Sending love to their partners and to the many devoted fans 💚

Oh, j'ai écouté pour la première fois ce morceau, c'était en juin 1967. Pas d'internet, que la radio et les 45 tours. Aux premiers sons j'ai été complètement tétanisé par cette vibration venue d'ailleurs.
Le premier 45 tours que j'ai acheté c'était celui-là. Cette voix si suave, cet orgue Hammond si envoutant, j'en tremble encore à chaque fois que je l'entends.
John Lennon disait que" c'était la plus belle chose qu'il n'avait jamais entendue".
Brian Wilson, qu'elle serait sa "plus belle marche funèbre"...
Plus de 50 ans plus tard Gary Brooker nous quittait en nous léguant ce chef d'oeuvre.

Er saß am Flügel und seine Stimme klang wie auf der Single vor einem halben Jahrhundert.
