Here it is 2024 and I'm 76, and tears are streaming from my eyes at this 60 year old tune. Formidable!
❤
Tengo 60 años
Y recordando a mi hermano, guitarrista de esa época !!
Yes, I'm 68 years old...
What a masterpeace, so wonderful.
Maravilhosa ❤❤❤
😢😢😢🙏♥️
We lived in a golden age of music but we didn't know it then.
💯
Many of us did. Many.
Didn't take us any longer than the beginning of the 80s to figure it out though
Absolutely such a wealth of memories
This is real music not the rubbish they have today, A true timeless classic
I'm 70 and this song never grows old.
7-13-1953 👍
6/12/1953 I too have always admired Procol Harum and the song Whiter Shade of Pale............and I can also appreciate why one of my all time favorite guitarists, Robin Trower, found his way finally in a keyboard dominant band!
@@mackydog998-5-53
I'm 71 and I agree :)
10/11/53🙂....
My sisters dedicated this song to me when I was little, and I lived in the hospital and was rarely home.
I love this song and it reminds me of a very dark time that I survived even when doctors said I wouldn't live to 5 years old.
Auguri ,auguri, per tutto...
Ascolta questa canzone nella interpretazione di una cantante di appena 20 anni LUCY THOMAS ...è una meraviglia
❤
Now you'll gotta learn to think for yourself by losing a mask. Why would you restrict your oxygen
I certainly grew up in the absolute best time for music.
Gary Booker nailed that tune till the day he died !!! Thank you Gary and co.
Saw a live gig from not long before he died and his voice blew me away.
He sure did
For real, real. In fact, I saw him perform this in his mid-60s, and he sounded BETTER! His voice got better and stronger with time!
@@vanessa4u4evr so special when we get these heart touching moments. RARE !!
He did..beautiful man!
From the days when real music was made into timeless masterpieces.
Back when music WAS music, this was the pinnacle.
Since 1990 music died. Who are the great ones since 1990? There’s too many great ones to list before 1990. I’m not gonna pick favorites here but who has been outstanding to us since 1990 no one everything was out of tune you have that big Amazon made up country western to popular star running around the country now she sucks she stinks. I heard her when they cut the mic and her singing. I think better in the shower than that big tall talent you know who I’m talking about.
Amen brother to that!!!
Damn,I wish I could go back and relive my childhood again. I miss the’60s & ‘ 70s so bad😟
I know how you feel. I miss them too. I guess our task is to keep the spirit alive. Peace
I would gladly climb into a time machine and go back even for just a day.
Ditto
My regret on the Friday night 8pm Eastern live chat is when the episode is over the Way Back Machine returns me to today. I wish there were a "just stay here" button on it! 😊
So many of us feel the same
l will never tire of listening to this Masterpiece
The minute Gary sings that first line, I'm transported back to the summer I was 15! A true classic.
Very rare that you have a song and it’s singer that just keeps sounding better and better throughout the span of over 50yrs but Gary Booker did it…..RIP Mr. Gary Booker and thank you for what is truly a timeless classic
Brooker
One of the greatest songs ever written.
This track is an evergreen. Even after all these years, A Whiter Shade Of Pale sounds so fresh. Procol Harum has an incredible body of work. I saw Procol Harum 4 times live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and this song was part of the set list. What an fantastic singer Gary Brooker is. May B.J Wilson, Gary Brooker, Alan Cartwright and Keith Reid rest in peace. Cheers! ✌️
Hey Dwayne😃ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
@@MrMegaFredZeppelinHello Fred! Cheers, and ROCK ON! 🖐✌️
Yaman conquistador!
The room was humming hareder as the ceiling flew away..... ❤❤❤ this song so happy to be apart of the generation of fabulous music
I am 82 brings back memories
Oh hell yes. Rock In Peace, Gary Brooker. This song will always be one of my all-time favorites.
I like this version better than the studio version. They are so talented that they don't need a mixing and overdubs to sound Great! 👍
Yup - this is "as is" - no help from anything. Pure talent.

I'm from Brazil and never forget this song inside me. Love só much
A Whiter Shade of Pale is one of the best songs ever to be performed, wrote by the master Gary Brooker and Keith Reid
- and not to forget Matthew Fisher.
@@larschristensen9367 Certainly not,all the members of Procol Harum were very talented singers
@@myallotment1714 , and my point was that M.F co-wrote it.
Thanks for posting this. So great to see a live version from back in the day. What a song. Perfect voice. I can’t imagine anyone else singing this song.
I've heard others try but no one else can really do this song justice. This is the only version that can put a lump in my heart😢
Annie Lennox does an honorable job.
Steve Winwood in his prime, maybe. It would sound different of course, but Stevie had undeniably awesome pipes. (They're still pretty good today, considering.)
Absolutely amazing !! One of my all time favs and never gets old…I found myself tearing up it brings back so many memories so Thank you ❤
Slowed danced to this in 73 in the darkened high school gym with a cute blond girl in a halter top wearing strawberry perfume. Heaven!!
these slow dance memories are unforgettable
@@vinobody Yep, cheek to check, toe to toe and everything else in between lined up.
Strawberry fields forever .
Great songs never fade.
Unfortunately bad songs seem to overstay their welcome ;-)
yes, like boston' debut masterpiece sounds as great today as it did in '76.
It just doesn't get any better. They have all the talent.
Ya ever watch these videos on TMS and think, “So that’s what those guys looked like….”
TH-cam, and channels like this make my internet bill worth it.
The music is the ONLY good thing about TH-cam.
One of the best songs ever released, bare none.
Timeless classic first time I heard this song I said daaayuuum I could hear it a million times and never get tired of it RIP Gary Brooker
One of those really great old songs you don't quite understand, but you love it anyway.
Sometimes you need to find out what some of the words desribe & mean to get the songs meaning as we do with this classic . Same sort of thng with Traffic's John Barleycorn must Die. Some just miss the fact it's about the problems with alcohol in older times & now as well .
I really don’t need words, I love orchestral music, choirs etc.
The oboe ? Wow what an instrument, just beautiful.
Gary’s voice is awesome 😘
This drummer, demonstrates one of the greatest shuffle skills I've ever heard!
Agreed! Wish we could’ve seen more of him in this video.
Agree, BJ Wilson was their long term drummer, who after Procol Harum disbanded went on to workwith Joe Cocker across the United States.
Fourteen years old when this aired! Loved it then and love it now. Hypnotic beautiful blends of voice, keyboard and drums. Was a different time then and this sure brought me back to a happy spot ...
Lo mejor de los 60. Lo viví ., lo bailé en Valparaíso en fiestas liceanas. Hoy , a los 70 años, al escucharlo nuevsmente, vuelvo por breves instantes a vivir ese ayer
All of the older music is connecting with the younger generation, which makes me happy!
You are so right my 36 yr old son listens to music I (65 yrs old) grew up on..😁🤗
Gary Booker RIP will remember you as one of my teenage favourites
As an English teacher, I appreciate the reference to the Miller's Tale. Well done.
Je l'écoute et réécoute encore et encore, sans fin et sans jamais me lasser de cette chanson ! Merci pour ce partage. (76 ans ce mois ci)....
It's been years since I read a factoid about this song. It said that it is the most requested song to radio stations worldwide. I regret that I didn't share it with my uncle when I read it. As a teen, listening to it while my family was on vacation, my uncle made fun of it. He claimed that the lyrics made no sense. I was about 16; he was in his late 30's. That was in 1968. I still have to stop whatever I am doing when it begins to play.
You were wiser than your Uncle. It's not the words that make this song touching and powerful. It's the melody and the arrangement. It has the quality of a hymn to me. Cheers!
73 here what a great time it was to be able to grow up with kind of great songs
Every one of the 100's of times I've heard this song, I have the same emotional response. Being able to see this wonderful performance is awesome.
It does open up something quite wonderful in you - doesn't it? It makes you want to cry in a good way!
Only in the 100's? Slacker. LOL I get emotional too every single time. I listen to this at least once a month . i like to listen to Conquistador with WSof P too.
Thank you Midnight Special for this post. Such a great classic once again from my youth. Great time to be alive.
Probably one of the best songs ever written. Bach 's still a groove. Ain't it?
Bravo!!!
One of my all time favorite songs ever! What a timeless classic! Thanks, The Midnight Special!
The Best ever .......
Such a lovely song. It just opens up such deep wells of emotion.
This song is so awesome! He still sang that good until His passing a couple of years ago. I was 8 years old when this song came out. Loved it then and still love it now. ♥
Realmente, uma época puramente mágica, cheia de grandes energias de paz e amor. Eu tinha meus 6 anos e nunca mais deixei de adorar essa canção, um dos Hinos do Amor e da vida.

This is one of those “more than a song” songs. ✌️
I'm 65. I grow up listening to this wonderful song.love this band...
We miss ya Gary. November 1973, when this aired on The Midnight Special I was one month from graduating boot camp at Parris Island. Plt 395 India Co, 3rd Bn. Oct-Dec 1973.
This was a favourite song of a good friend, John McConnell, and I always think of him when I hear it...his life ended tragically and too soon but he was one of those people you were glad to say that you knew...
I haven't heard this song since maybe the 80s. It gave me goosebumps reminding me of the late 70s. And, his live singing is unbelievably fantastic.
That Hammond and Leslie are goosebump inducing.
Who was Leslie?
@@maureenmannion6748 a Leslie is a speaker with a rotating driver inside that can spin at a variable rate and is used with a Hammond organ to make that wonderful Hammond sound. Sometimes you can see one onstage with the speaker driver spinning inside.
@@MCW1955 Thanks!
What a voice!
I still remember this song playing at one of our high school dances and had a crush on a girl wanted to dance 🕺 with her shy and someone else did and still think of her to this day how I missed out dancing with her such a great song. I'm 65yo now
Damn, the best soul touching song everTY!!! ❤😢😊
One of the most beautifull sentimental songs of the discographic industry. Live Forever !! ❤
All time classic....
Mr Gary Brooker RIP
Rest easy rest well
I’m 73 and can’t believe I am hearing your very special band. Thank you
Phenomenal!
Wow, I actually remember seeing this performance on Midnight Special. Thanks for posting --- although I don't need the reminder that I'm old!
There's a live video of Procul Harem that I think was filmed in Denmark not that long ago. On it, Gary Brooker, at more than 70 years old, does the best vocal I've ever heard him do of this song. It's astounding.
He also does the best version of A Salty Dog at the Denmark gig, makes the hairs stand up. This guy could sing until the sad day he passed, not many can say that....
That performance also featured the great drummer Mark Brzezicki.
That is my favorite !!!!
I'm 69.Music never die. Before he died seen in Logomo Finland
This was the first song I really noticed as a 6 or 7 year old kid in the 60's. I love it to this day.
One of the best songs ever. I love that suit jacket Gary was wearing here. Cool print. 😎💜
I watched an interview with Gary where he said all the guys had to go buy good clothes right after Whiter Shade of Pale became a hit. The Shabbir dressed band group descended on the fancy men's clothing shops in London. Thought it was so down to earth to admit they had to get new clothes now that they had a hit!
Classically gorgeous song!
Many years ago my friend walked down the aisle at her fancy wedding to this, sans the vocals. She was so beautiful in her tall white hat with her veil falling all around, can still picture it & gives me chills. The groom was red dirt-folk rock singer/songwriter Jimmy LaFave, he’s passed on R.I.P.
Sweet, fantastic memories!
Beautiful memory, thanks for sharing it
Absolutely amazing !
Never seen this
This song always captures me
Words don't come easy to describe the brilliance of their music and sung by the great Mr Brooker
Love,,Lot of memories,,Love More Memories...
A true classic...its the opening song at my departure from this planet ...beautiful song never ever to be replicated by anyone ever again xx
Great tune "hear"😃Crazy to think this was over 50 years ago🤯Now I feel old🤣ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
🎶🙌🎶👏👏👏 brilliant music nostalgia 🎶🙌🎶🎶🎶✌️
Air on The G String. I have always been in love with A Whiter Shade of Pale!!! ❤❤❤
Still have no clue what this song is really about but 57 years later its still one of the best songs ever recorded with one of the best lines ever...alhought my eyes were open they just as well have been closed.
Ivvbe been struck Bobby the fact that. Keith Reid was the son of a Holocaust survivor. He was brilliant and very affected by his Father's experiences. He admitted to being depressed while Gary Brooker was very easy going. They complemented each other.
Absolute legend. 🙏
This song is always great at all time !!!
Sometimes you only need the one massive hit song to become legends ! Sort of in the Nights in White Satin bracket this one.
Hard to follow it, nothing else will ever quite measure up. And, they certainly created some incredible tunes in it's aftermath.
Moody Blues had more than 1 big hit though
Yeah the moody blues more than one hit
Procol Harum also had more than one hit song.
I have loved this song since I was 1965 years old
I’m 69 Thank You. This is so great.
Awesome performance, had not seen this before. Thank you for posting.
My brother turned me on to this song when I was 14. It’s always been one of my favorites. I can remember the day like yesterday. Thanks big brother and RIP!
Beautiful 🌹
This song immediately transported me back in time to the dance floor... What a beautiful time in my life.
Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I have the original drumless version of this. I have a ludwig green drumset just like that one! 1:49 I converted it electronically, it's like drum karaoke! OMG! so much fun drumming to this and with headphones I don’t disturb the neighbors. Sounds great!!🤗
@@boinknook Excellent... keep on playing! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Beautiful throwback. Thank you. ❤❤
The organ and all is great but to me this song is Gary Brooker through and through. His singing is fantastic. Timeless song.
I was 15 or 16 when this was a hit. I remember it so well, the summers were fantastic then.
I totally agree!
I still love this song from my childhood!!
Matthew Fisher was the creator of the beautiful organ solo. Unforgettable..
It's quite indecent that he had to fight so much to get his copyright. I mean the organ line IS the song, even if it was borrowed from Bach.
@@nathalieplum2137 Yes, Bach' s variations. Fisher si a great musician..
I like very much a song called 'The wreck of the Hesperus ' , Fisher 's composition (A salty dog album).
Seldom played it the same way twice
Was it a young fisher playing on this set?@@CarlosRosas-kg3hq

Absolutely true
Thanks for sharing, it's amazing!!!😊
Ça fait du bien de voir que ces chansons traversent les générations merci a vous de nous la faire réentendre 😊😊😊
A very calm, soft version, very nice
I've been watching the incredible performance of this song in Denmark, 2006, I believe. An orchestra and choir accompanied Procol Harum. Gary was around 61 in that phenomenal performance, his voice as good or better, same mannerism. Beautiful.
Thanks for posting this ❤
