LMFAO THE EDIT AT 31:34 this is so well edited! you did an amazing job of summarising 2023, including the 2024 records at the end was a nice touch too. one of my favourite speedrun summaries ever
You just get better and better at editing, holy moly this was an absolute blast to watch and also a blast to the past that actually wasn't even that far back :p Here's to a more insane 2024! 😁
I saw a bit of the billiards video and enjoyed it but then this video landed in my recommendations. This video desperately needs more attention, this is really good and the editing is amazing.
The only thing that will overshadow this is wii play 2024, june alone has been absolutely incredible, not to mention that the first half of the year has been absolutely insane to be a part of. I love the videos :)
if you can have friends help you in Find Mii why not have an AI look at the screen and point out the Miis? it’s still just one player using one controller. it’s just visual aid. Plus it’d be entirely unenforceable. I see these as exactly the same thing. if you wanna allow them that’s fine, but I do think that you can’t separate them.
if you wanna say “well not everyone can create that kind of setup” then I’d argue it’s easier to do than have friends. Anyone can fallow a guide and set up that kinda of thing. Making friends is a lot harder and has more RNG involved.
wii play, do you? also do you see emulators ever being allowed? it just sucks they're so easy to cheat on, it'd make speedrunning a lot more accessible to people without real hardware if there was some way to make them allowed. maybe a special fork of dolphin meant for speedrunning or something like that
actually, that's not why they're banned - most of the time it's just as easy to make a mod on dolphin and run it on a console as it is to run it in dolphin itself. the hard part would be actually modifying the game in a way that would give you an advantage. there are two main reasons why emulators are not allowed for Wii Play: 1. while Dolphin is an incredible project that has seen immense improvements over the past decade and beyond, there does not currently exist a Wii emulator that is airtight enough for us to be fully confident that using it is effectively the exact same as running the game natively on original hardware. you can compare this to a game like Super Mario Bros. which fully allows emulators and has an emulator used in the world record of its any% category because the NES is a simple enough console that its best emulators are pretty much rock solid by now 2. Dolphin's load times are significantly faster for Wii Play due to it reading the game's contents from your computer's hard drive and not from a disc, which would provide an unfair advantage for speedruns. if i recall correctly i do think there's a feature somewhere in the program called "Emulate Console Loads", but that's never been accurate enough for us to trust, especially given that disc loads are volatile in the first place and different Wiis will perform slower or faster than others. this is also why we don't allow runners to load games from a USB using homebrew software such as USB Loader GX - the game can load faster from the USB drive.
thanks for the reply, it was really informative :3 if it isn't too much of a bother, i have a few more questions about dolphin and its use in speedrunning after reading this 1. do you think if/when dolphin is deemed accurate enough, that forks of it for speedrunning specific games could be made. or just that even the main version of dolphin would be okay for speedrunning? 2. do you think sampling tons of wiis load times for an average load time and then making emulator use that average would be a viable solution? 3. if dolphin or forks of it could be used for speedrunning, how do you think the speedrunning community would feel about it? 4. do you see speedrunning categories for modded copies being a thing in the future? an example would be playing billiards with the rng patched out
@@s_callahan 1. i think the main version of dolphin would be fine for speedrunning in that scenario but i don't think that scenario is realistic 2. different people will have different opinions on this but personally i don't like that idea, i would only really be satisfied with a way for dolphin to load discs from a real wii disc drive (which would kind of defeat the purpose of using dolphin in the first place) 3. your question is difficult to answer with how it's worded because different speedgames have different rules. if you mean the Wii Play speedrunning community specifically, though, i think it'd be hard to get people on board to allow emulator runs, but i don't think they'd be too pressed about it after going through with it. games like Wii Sports and Wii Party, for instance, actually already allow emulator runs - they're just hidden by default on the leaderboard 4. i mean... maybe? but honestly i don't think many people would be interested in that - in fact i think it would actually make the game less interesting to most people
i couldn't remember this channel in my subs so i checked the videos and found osu mapping tutorials i once watched and loved. glad you are still going and trying out something different 💪

It cannot be overstated how good it is when creators include the names of the pieces of music used in their content! 🎼⛳️🕺🎉🎴🏞️
