Great content 🎉
That hole with the picture in asylum I just found out you can fall down there
On one side I'm so happy to see a video of this quality. On the other side I wish you could post it on SumSalt channel to have millions watching it because you deserve it.
@@Nostalg33 Well thanks. If our audiences are truly similar, they'll find my channel eventually...
@@Papamanual nah algorithms and parasocial relations and habits are saying nope. Tho this content will help to promote your own channel which is a good thing in my book.
I wish Summoning Salt would make a video about all the great content around about speed running
Pap set out to make the most proper video on this topic that he could. He took the time to come to the runners of this game, to ask every question, to learn every intricacy and detail of MediEvil's speedrun - all to make sure that he got this video right.
I have high standards, and I can say with certainty that everything this man says and explains about this game is 100% accurate - and presented properly.
The effort that he put into this video is immense, and I respect him for that.
Enjoy!
Well done Goat
You are a beast men! GZ for all that effort
you are one of the most dedicated and impressive runners of anything i have ever seen, the only other person i know of as dedicated as you is gymnast86, your skill is amazing
So, are you actually a human, orrrrrrrrr....????????
Absolute legend!
Man i cringe and laugh so hard at my old stream layout, and my english skills lol.
Great video man ! The time & work you must have put to make this must be insane !
Can't wait to see more
Shut up you are great!! We all improve and start somewhere. That's not cringe hahaha.
Is goo me brodda
I never understood why Daniel was considered a coward. From what we see he's courageously charging at the front of the army, exposing himself to the most danger. It's not his fault that he got super unlucky and an arrow slipped past his helmet's slit.
Apparently, there is an official online comic (published around the time the PS4 remake was released) that explain that it was because Fortesque lied to the king of Gallownere by pretending he was a strong knight while he wasn't. He also didn't expected a war to break out so he was "secure" about her cover. But when Zarok raised his army of dark forces, the king basically told Fortesque to lead the charge against the sorcerer. The "knight" wasn't that good but he still went to the battlefield... Only to die to the first arrow landing in his eye. The rest is pretty much what Pap tell at the beginning and only the gargoyles and the Heroes know the truth.
If it’s not his fault.
Whose fault is it😂
@@fastinradfordablethe arrow's
he is more of a fraud I guess ?
Ban all arrows!
NoobKillerRoof here - If you liked the remix of The Graveyard in this video, then you ought to know that I am also remixing the soundtracks of other classic games - including Croc, Ratchet & Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic Advance, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and many more!
Brooooooo ur shit hoot afffff🔥🔥🔥
Man this video was a trip. This was extremely thoroughly researched, your narration is top tier and the explainations for the skips were clear and easy to understand.
Big props to the MediEvil community for pushing this PS1 gem.
GOAT to GOAT communication.
Your one of my fav video essay channels. If you made a vid about this game I'd probably watch it like 10 times.
The GOAT of speedruns explained has spoken
Majestic work on the research and on the attention to details. you could not have honored in a better way one of the best PS1 game with one of the most underrated speedruns ever. Thanks Pap, honored to be part of it
hey i have a question for you since you seemed to learn really fast do you think your learning was faster or similar to warbrothers or is there no real way to know
I was not remotely expecting this game to be so insanely precise
I feel old af now! Almost ten years since seeing my first run of this game.
You made me remember so many moments of this game's history, it's crazy.
Well done, edit was on point, amount of information perfect and well explained. A huge thanks for your work, from a big fan of this game and this speedrun.
Thanks for viewing all this time
Thank you sir for your hard work, research, and dedication through out the creation process. You did Fortesque good.
Great video mate. Easily one of the best speedrun documentary videos I have seen. Despite having no prior knowldege of MediEvil or its speedrun, I didn't feel lost and was engaged throughout which is no small feat to achieve. I hope the video gets the attention it deserves.
Thanks DarkViper!
hey Nick
Damn.
please stop saying tears up is bad in isaac
I still say Summoning Salt is better. Good vid, though. I just wonder if EMU will be eliminated, like so many other speedruns.
So proud and honoured to be part of this
Ho le ginocchia burrate!!!
Lies, all lies!!!😡

Medievil is such an underrated game, that ps1 demo was absolutely legendary, such an awesome game!
I am not kidding. For whatever reason the game freaked me out so much during my childhood, that I was never ever able to walk through dark hallways in my mom's house normally again for YEARS. I was always sprinting to the next light source during the night.
Considering this is one of my childhood games, it's surprising that I never even considered the speedrunning aspect of it. And what a story that was!
It's great that the remaster's release brought some more attention to the original version and I guess much like Sir Fortesque himself, the speedrunning scene saw an unexpected revival!
Thanks for the very informative video, it was a blast to learn all of that history!
With love from the MediEvil community ♥
Fantastic!
The full breakdown at the start to explain what's required to finish the game really helps set the pace for the rest of the vid.
Love Medievil, exciting stuff!
NoobKiller being so dominant in what he does, is scarily accurate with his name.
My name originates from playing CoD. I do the same over there 😂
Ah yes, the single best Playstation franchise ever made. God I wish they would make a new entry, the psp remake of 1 was the best psp title hands down.
Scrolling through my recommended videos and what should I find, if not a comprehensive history on the speedrun of one of my favorite childhood games. The MediEvil TAS done by Torn was the one that introduced me to TAS and speedrunning in general, and remains one of my favorites to this day, even if it's been long since obsoleted.
Amazing job on the video, definitely subscribing!
For anyone wondering what Nazz said at the end of the crazy Zarok split run at 1:31:23 :
"My legs just melted, I've got butter knees"
It is a pretty surreal experience to watch a "speedrun history" video talking about people I've actually met for once.
Thank you for the amazing work you put on this, keep it up, man!
Really excited for new vid.
The detail you go into is fantastic.
groobo, what an absolute lad and chad. a pioneer.
someone with extremely niche but impressive knowledge given an opportunity to shine is something you just love to see.
As someone who found your channel through your punch-out content, I think my favourite thing about this (fantastic) video is your introducing each of the players. When you hype it up and create suspense, oh who could this person be they sound so awesome, and I'm so used to hearing names like "Mike Tyson" and "Don Flamenco", and then its NoobKillerRoof. Makes me laugh every time.
This is an absolute masterpiece- thank you. Your storytelling, editing, data-gathering, articulate explanations made this the best video I've seen of its kind. I sincerely look forward to seeing more!
I´m still fascinated with speedrunners. To hell with magicians and illusionists - speedrunners can force me to yell "HOW?!" even now!
The fact that each level has exact copies lurking beneath actually adds to the creepiness factor of this game, for me. One of my all-time favourites :)
11:27 The "inventery" menu??? LOL
All jokes aside, I really enjoyed this game growing up. I highly recommend getting the PS4 remastered version, which can also run on the PS5!
He says it properly at 14:11, i think he's memeing or something
I'm rewatching this video a second time. Your story telling and editing make this video very fun and entertaining to watch!
I've watched this like 200 times 😂
I've completed this game at least 20 times since it came out. However, I've never attempted a speedrun myself. What I do at least once per month, though, is search on TH-cam for any new speedruns of the game that have been posted. I've watched every single speedrun shown in this video. Massive thanks to everyone involved in the speedrunning community, and a special thanks to you Pap for gathering every bit of information on this topic and keeping the legacy of this game alive.
Here from dark viper
i loved this game a kid. no one ever knew what i was talking about when i brought it up in the school yard. glad to see it has following these days, it most definitely deserves it.
Won't lie I almost skipped this video but curiosity led me to watch it, mostly because this game was a childhood game I played a LOT and hilariously enough I discovered it and wanted to play it form those demo discs that used to get shipped out way back in the 90's/2000's. And it was surreal to see this game be so breakable and quick to beat, absolutely insane what these guys did to lower the record so much and just crazy to see how much lower the time can still go, but its what makes speedruns so much fun to watch, the fact that they can almost always go lower.
Thank you for a good video and a trip back through time for me, now I gotta go dust off my own copy I still own of the game and play it all over again c:
Crazy stuff, fetafemboy
This was outstandingly well put together. With so many different challenges and skips it's a true test of ingenuity, it must have been a challenge to gather all of the relevant information.
Thank you for putting the effort into making this, it was a pleasure to watch!
Damn man just gotta say you're making some awesome vids lately like the deeper dives on MTPO and now stuff like this. Really hope to see more of the speedrun history type videos, always so cool to hear about the stories that can be lost when you're just looking at records on leaderboards.
Absolutely stellar work on this video. Having followed Nazz and NKR for some time now, I still managed to learn so much about the history of the speedrun and its tricks.
Top tier production!
The best video of a game's speedrun history I've ever seen, everything from the pacing to the explanations of the tricks to the storyline was impeccable. Thank you!
It must have been an insane amount of work to puzzle all this together.
Super fun to watch - thank you!
I don't normally comment on "random videos" (someone I am not normally subscribed to). Very solid video - I enjoy watching the histories of speedruns and learning on how games are made and how they can be broken. I look forward to watching your "The History of Spyro 2 Speedruns". Keep it up!
This was the first game i personally played and have memories of. This actually is super amazing to see it explained in a speedrun! 21+ years ago I couldn't believe how cool this game is!
this is absolutely incredible!! very well explained and quite easy to understand and follow for someone who has never even heard of the game!! the editing was just topnotch too! had my eyes glued to the screen!! amazing work!!!
It took me a while to watch the final version and, oh man, this is great!
Thank you for the hard work and your skill to portrait this game's crazy run evolution!
Also, proud to be part of this, even tho in a marginal part.
I _loved_ this speedrun documentary, you're definitely on par with Summoning Salt with your thoroughness and clear explanations of the tricks and the history.
I only had one of the PS1 demo discs so I only ever got to play the Graveyard, but it was one of my favorite games on there, along with Brave Fencer Musashi and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. There was just something so... magical and gloomy about it that I didn't get to see again until the N64 version of Rayman 2.
I always love to watch speedruns for it when it comes up in marathons, so I knew some of the tricks, but you explain them really well.
Definitely earned a sub, looking forward to seeing what else you've got planned!
Not going to lie, I'm a little high on painkillers from a dislocated shoulder and when I first read the thumbnail , I thought to myself "I didn't know they tracked world records that far back"
For some obscures reasons, TH-cam recommanded me your Spyro 2 Speedrun history (I don't watch that many Spyro videos to begin with) but it was entertaining nonetheless.
And I saw THIS video in your channel, I was like "Ooooh boy, one of my favorites games get a Speedrun history as well ? Better watch it, it can't be THAT hard to speedrun Medievil right ?"
After seeing this whole video, mad props and kudos to each of theses speedrunners for improving the WR despite all the hard tricks everywhere.
Wow. This is one of the best WR speedrun history videos I’ve ever seen. I got the same feeling from this one that I did when watching my first SummoningSalt video. Great job!
Simply amazing video through and through. You rekindled me with this game. I need to replay through it.. well I should say play as I never got passed the asylum as a kid.
Honestly best video I’ve seen in so long! Honestly it would be cool if you can do a history video on Medievil 2 and the first one as well and talk about the stories and cool stuff behind the scenes because you’re honestly so great in explaining honestly
Almost two hours of speedrun history for a kind of obscure game I played as a kid. This is the content I crave.
Oh man, this was like a telltale from childhood, with a game i still love to date, then the community, the progress and improvement in runs, and all this massive skill condensed in a single video. Love everything about this, perfect video.
I've always loved the MediEvil series, even pre-ordered the remake as I knew that they can't mess it up, it's genuinely one of my favourite video games series, glad that Matto mentioned this video in one of his new rambles
Im not sure who Matto is, but tell him thankyou
I really enjoyed watching this, thank you for putting it together.
I never wanted this video to end. It was quite a ride. OUTSTANDING work!
One of the most creative and fresh games of the era. Great video! Thanks for making it!
Love the storytelling with NoobKillerRoof as this unbeatable godmode player that all the runners respect.
Amazing video, after that I watched your Spyro video too, two excellent videos, well researched and written, congrats!
I've never player MediEvil, but after watching the history of speedrunning I got interested in the game.
I hope you make more videos like this.
Me, who has never played Medievil in his life: "Yeah, sure, I'll be the next world record holder" 😂
Awesome video! It is a bit curious to me that that community accepts the soldier despawn glitch, given it only really works on LESS accurate emulators (without doing the crazy stuff you mentioned at the end that don't sound viable). I guess every community has different standards about that sort of thing, but it sounds funny in a vacuum to say "oh, you can lower your world record times by seeking out the equivalent of a knock-off Chinese Playstation that doesn't run the game quite right" :D
This is true - as far as I know, they decided to go by what was most fun for everyone.
Emulator is the most accessible way to run the game, and on the most popular emulator at the time, soldier despawn worked, so we stuck with it
@@NoobKillerRoof makes sense!!
I've been a huge fan of medievil since I was a kid and I had no idea there was even a speedrunning scene this video is gonna be a joy to watch
That, was, amazing! Thank you for putting this together, highly entertaining!
This is one of my all time fav games, I didn't know people speed ran this. Great video man, thanks for the info! Subbed.
I really enjoyed this! Thank you for putting so much time and production into making this
No worries, it was an enjoyable one to make.
I'm so glad someone finally made a video about these speedruns! Definitely one of my favourite games 👏
WOW what a ride! Such a great and entertaining video. Thank you very much for this well produced and informative masterpiece!! And also a massive thank you and respect to the community. MediEvil is a childhood game and it takes a special place in my heart and memories. So lovely to see, what it still brings today!
Wow such a long and full in-depth analysis of Medievil speedruns! Your effort and work is undeniable, the amount of time spent on this is immense. Please do more like this on other PS1 titles!
Bro amazing video and finally something that breaks from the monotony of all those Mario and Zelda speedruns, well done and hope to see more of your work
HUGE work done, huge respect dude
Genuinely fantastic video, great work!
Found you from your Spyro 2 research! Super cool that you dropped a video on the only non Spyro game I run :D
Crazy stuff, glad this gem is still being played, awesome video.
Hey Pap, I watched this over the course of a couple days and I want you to know that It was not only great at scratching my nostalgia itch for a game I played loads as a kid, but was also extremely educational!
I look forward to more!
These video's must take a hell of a lot of time to produce but they are _incredibly_ enjoyable. Thank you very much for your efforts Pap!
I'm literally subscribing for this video, I really like this game, thank you for talking about, if more content about it comes out in the future, I'd be glad to watch :^)
Feature length documentary about one of my favourite games growing up? Hell yeah!
How recent some of these discoveries are is amazing. This is such an underrated title and I wish more attention was brought to it.
Great Video! I love all Medievil content so this is an awsome suprise 2 hours long!!
I love this game!!! One of my favorites growing up. Amazing video! 👌
this is so interesting, i've been incorporating a couple of these into my own playthrough
This is the best speedrun explanation ever please make more of this kind
It was never boring even if it was a hours long, no it was almost 2 hours i was soo hooked that it felt like it was a 30 minute video good job m man
I learned more about this game in the first minute of this video than any other video for the past 15-20 years, thank you
Looks like I'm getting some popcorn
I legit warmed up a bowl of that new AMC Theatres bagged popcorn when starting this video.
Research, editing and thoroughness. I can easily see your channel becoming extremely popular among other speed running historians!
Medievil really is a masterpeace. Not just for the story, humor and soundtrack. This made me realise how well everything works.
I really slept on this game it seems! Great video.
one of the best video on medievil ever made, interesting from start to finish, good job mate.
cheers from italy
This is such a badass review bro ceep up the amazing reviews bro your a banger .
I love your videos last week I was having a panic attack I don't know why but I needed a video to help relax me and I decided to watch this video due to my love for speed running and medievil and I was not disappointed with your videos they are very calming and enjoyable
Thank you for your hard work and effort
I need a "history of medivil 2". Your voice is so majestic hahaha, and so calm and interesting to hear.
I beg you, i nees a part 2 of the series.
Awesome video! Tip my had to the legends that spent time discovering everything about this awesome game
These speedrun stories are some of the absolute best i-would-have-never-thought-this-is-interesting-enough-to-spend-an-hour-and-a-half-watching-a-video-about-but-here-we-are videos
Since it's release I have rewatched this video 8 times all the way through. I don't often leave comments but this video is absolutely awesome and super rewatchable. Well done Pap.
Well thankyou! Appreciate the comment and watchtime :D
@@Papamanual I have adored the game and the community surrounding it since childhood this video encapsulates everything amazing about this game, thanks for providing an amazing piece of content :)
just finished 2 levels so far, past the tutorial, so much fun. hope this doesn't ruin it for me lol. thank you for the work and time you put into this.
Great video! Epic game and epic speedrunning community. I have watched it 40 times. Looking forward to more vids like this.
i remember i had a demo disc for my ps1, had a bunch of game demos and game promo vids, had so much fun playing those demos. this game was one of the demos
Great video mate, very fun to watch
One of my favourites ever! Great video! Cheers from México.
Awesome video! Really enjoyed it!
Each day watching it all over again
Fun fact
Previous to MediEvil, Chris worked on another game series, James Pond 3 (obvious reference to James Bond). Out of randomness, the writer they brought along to polish the story details for Sir Dan (as initially he was just a skeleton in a hack and slash game, little to no reason why) is casually named Martin Pond, and he came up with the idea of a redemption story, to clear his name of any history retcons made by the Peregrine King
thank you for the hard work, as a medievil fan it was very interesting to learn about these tricks. video about medievil 2 would be awesome
Finally 100% this game in 2022. Remember renting it all the time as a kid in the 90s and it was too scary/difficult to get past the enchanted forest part.
You’ve motivated me to download this game on emulator and give it a go. Reminds me of childhood although I never played it. Cheers and great video.
