I had the pleasure of driving a W204 C63 everyday for 5 years. Makes you feel like a child every time you get in it. No higher compliment than that

C63 with M156 engine is a classic of all time.. people will still remember it just like the 190E 2.3 from 1983. its a LEGEND.

Chris, I mean this from the bottom of my heart. Your sort of a big deal! Not because you drive great cars and seem to laugh about it, but because you get it. Your the bridge between the have's and the have not's. You take that child hood enthusiasm and put articulate words to it for us grown men and women across the planet. You have a way of showcasing the engineering in the light of awe inspiring that it deserves! Well done as usual

No problems, but I owned it from new and always had it serviced at Mercedes. Did nearly 100,000 trouble free miles. replaced two suspension arms, some bushes, brake discs (twice) and a heat shield. and about 13 sets of rear tires and a gazillion gallons of fuel. Enjoy !

The M156 has maybe the most satisfying stock V8 exhaust note I've ever heard (well, aside from it's slightly crazier cousin, the M159) and fantastic throttle response. Frankly, I think the Audi and BMW 4.0L TT's sound like vacuum cleaners compared to this thoroughbred... I hope AMG can work the magic they did on the TT M157 to retain a bit of that tough V8 soundtrack for their new 4.0L. Great job, as always, Chris!

    • @jimmyhoffa9
      @jimmyhoffa9 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You're thinking of the 4.4 BMW engine, the Audi 4.0 has a lovely roar, although it makes you wonder if thats exhaust engineering or actual engine noise.

Chris Harris could make a video about a used Volvo 200 series from 1986, and as long as he goes sideways about 1/3 of the time and makes a few dry jokes its pretty much a winner. Twin turbos, synthesized exhaust sounds, electric steering, Dual clutch automatic gearboxes killing manuals. These cars may be faster but I'll have a naturally aspirated V8 over anything with turbos. There's nothing like an M5 V10 screaming at high rpm or a C63 low speed growl. The heyday of german engine displacements has finished.

Toon Jacobs I have a C63 and I kid you not, on Sunday afternoon, I was in a quiet neighbourhood house shopping and going about 15mph in 2nd gear. A man washing a large bird cage in his yard turned and stared while I was still half a block away, stayed fixated on the car while I passed, and then yelled out "Hey 63!!".
It actually took me a moment to get what he was on about. I forget how loud it is outside the car as opposed to inside even with the windows down.
[I don't scream THUNDERRRR, though. Maybe I should yell SPOOOON!!!.]

Off topic but I have to say, Chris, You do a fine job of putting the car in the same place on the track, every time. As a driver that has done some drifting and non-sanctioned racing on a regular basis, I give you kudos. As a photographer, I give you kudos as well. The video team's job gets easier when you aren't chasing the vehicle around the frame. Good job man. I'd Love to ride along with you, to get to race with you would be even better =) Cheers.

+skylineXpert yes but that's a costly option for a car where it should be included in standard pack. Even P31"performance pack" wasn't including it.

Thinking about swapping my supercharged 911 race for this exact model. The more I think about it, the keener I get.

Lovely, lovely engine! The sound is just brutal!

The ridiculous displacement N/A engine was what made the C63 such a legendary car, now it's all going to Eco friendly BS. A sad goodbye this is.

Of course, but the forced induction route is all aimed towards the whole eco friendly movement.

It's all good and everything, BUT Chris (and Drive) - we need those longer more analytic reviews again. Just watched the old M3 GTS vs C63 Black vs GT3 RS4.0 review, and it was so epic! I bet that people would really fancy something like that again.

We need raw footage of al these drifts in an hour long compilation.. just V8 song filling the air!

One of my friends has a 2011 C63 Coupe AMG. He let me drive it on the autobahn once. Holy crap that engine is awesome. I have been all over the world and grew up in Texas driving V8 Mustangs and Cameros. I have never heard a better sounding V8. The sound is perfect and the power is unreal. It feels like Germans decided to build an American muscle car. My only gripe was the paddle shifters. If a true stick shift was available, one would be in my driveway right now. But what great car. Hooligainism is always on tap with this one. It will be missed.

What was the music used in the background? It's probably some canned stuff but the piano is nice.

this video sums up my experience with my C 63 pretty well. i'd disagree about the "sharp auto box", though the MCT is better than the 7G i have...but other than that, the car is the modern rendition of a Hammer - it's quite special. the exhaust note sold me but it wouldn't have happened without the entire package being what it is.

The M156 will go down in history as the benchmark V8 for every other car maker to try and match!...the noise it makes is just amazing....
Is it the custom made Eisenmann exhaust, the firing order or maybe the high CR combined with racy cams that gives them that proper V8 sound?...

***** I still prefer the AMG motor, more durable than the Ferrari's flat-plane crank V8.

With the world tearing down history right now, history happened, it cannot be changed, it can be rectified for the future but what happened, happened.
In relation to this car it should be celebrated as it is part of history, love & hate it, acknowledge it embrace it, push the pedal to the floor.
    C63 in it’s truest form. 2020
