Skidding around at low speed is fun for 30 seconds but totally useless at the end of the day (specially if you have spent 100K to do that). I just don’t understand the need to have a electric performance car when it’s only ever tested at full charge in perfect conditions surely it should have to be an average at different battery states, otherwise your basically saying my car is a perforar for 30mins of a 12 hour track day for example. Even the best performance electric cars can’t do more than one flying lap of the Nurburgring and for me that’s the nail in the coffin ⚰️

I have a 330e, and the only scenario where I almost depleted the battery (~60% of it) was going very fast uphill for 10 miles, climbing about 800m, with the tyres squealing almost all the way. In terms of straight line performance and pedal response the new one is ahead of the old one, but that's about all the good news about the new car.
Better than them making it full electric. Pretty soon with more and more laws manufactures wont be able to make big v8 anymore so hybrid 6 cylider and 4 cylider is there next option to keep and car alive because if they make if electric they will pretty much kill of most of their fan base. Better to have tesla making ev and other companies doing what they are good at instead of following the ev flow.

Take that hybrid system and package with the v8. Better performance, better fuel economy, keep the sound. Use better tech/materials to reduce weight. That's what we expect from a performance car "update".

I have the old one, and would never even think of buying the new 4cyl, even though mine struggles alot of the line, but there is a whole lot to win to shift it much earlier, ive done a 100-200km/h in 7.55sek when shifting at ~6300rpm, was hitting around 8-8.2 when i go full auto shifting, its a stage one car
The Good: I think the 4 cylinder makes so much sense from a performance standpoint. That mixed with the AWD shows they mostly cared about track and drag strip performance, and yeah, that is pretty important on an AMG. Having wrenched on M139's quite a bit (only seen one M139I) the 4 cylinder is an incredibly reliable motor and willing to handle the abuse of 470HP ( rest is from the hybrid) even with the kind of boost they are throwing at it to get it out of that 2 liters of displacement. It could honestly go quite a bit higher, and I'd wager just a shelf tune would completely change the car. The Bad: Not everyone wants an AMG as a 4 cylinder because it's faster than the V8, and there should have been a V8 option for people that were willing to sacrifice *a little* performance for that fun V8 feel and sound. If people want more performance, they can modify their car. I don't think people that can afford the car are worried about penny pinching. The Ugly: Having almost 700HP in a European sports car that costs $100k+ and not being in the 10's is really, really bad. The power is there, the AWD is there, annnnnnd it weighs more than an American muscle car. By a lot. Even challengers, the boats of American muscle, some of the heaviest cars out there end up weighing hundreds of pounds less. All because of the hybrid system. The Worst: At the MSRP of the last generation compared to the new, if you put 30k into last gens C63 it would reliably wash the new car down the drain in every metric. They are smoking crack with the price update. This went from a car for car people to a grocery getter for rich executives that only care about the "performance" specs on the brochure. The Funny: If an idiot retired master tech that does nursing like me can figure that out, why couldn't Mercedes? This powertrain should be put in the lightest coupe design they can create and marketed as such, and it would be blazing fast, fun, sick car. It doesn't belong in the C63 and it's a disgrace to it's heritage.
The progression should've been v8+ hybrid now, v6+hybrid for thr next few years, and 4+ hybrid when in like 50 years when I need to be pushed around by my grandkids

There is no comparison. World of You Tube trying to make cars about drag race and numbers. Cars for many are passion where things like sound, emotions, joy counts. That’s why there is no competition V8 is always better car no matter the numbers and drag race result.
To be fair majority of people buying an estate V8 dont do it for performance, but rather the soul and the compromise of owning a family car and an what-so exotic engine. AMG was always about a V8 and it was a cult thing for Merc. Even tho people cried when it moved from 6.3 to 5.5 then finally to 4.0 it still remained a V8 and it was enough for most people. Chunking a 40% price increase on something that has 170 more hp but also weighs 400-500kg more, while taking away the soul that made an AMG just doesnt cut it. Sales are horrible on these cars, and resale value is even worse. Plus its a straight F1 tech so god knows what the reliability will be on it, while V8 proved to be a decently reliable engine. Merc just wanted to show-boast their racing tech in performance aspect, but forgot that majority of people dont even care about that and that performance was already plenty on the older model. 99% of people ARE NOT tracking their family wagon so puttin in F1 tech is pointless.
Ironically the most likely market for this car as well. Soon to be racing up and down the curry mile with a farty exhaust tune and tinted 3d gel numberplates.
For me when buying cars like these, it doesnt matter how fast it runs from 0-60. All it matters is the character of the car, which i will get from the V8 but not for this 4 cyl.
I had CLS63 S, 5.5L, 2014. Sold it two years ago and bought different "performance" car. Well... I know I will go back to V8. Performance can't replace that feeling and the sound of the AMG V8. The speed doesn't really matter on the roads. I just want my car to sound great again ;D

Think about it, if the motor in the AMG were able to handle 1000 horsepower Mercedes would build it from the factory and warranty it. I'm never going back to gasoline, but if you'd like the sound of a V8 buy the AMG and enjoy it. 👍
@@TheMadmax0609 That's why you take your car to a tuning company that disassembles the V8 and upgrades the internals then maps it, most of the good ones will come with a warranty for your engine for a decent amount of time. I used to like electric cars but 99% of them don't have a soul with too much computer hand holding you through the corners then your tyres overheat fast from the weight of the car so you end up understeering most of the time, not fun at all.

@@E39M5SPEEDhe’s talking about the one before, the W204 chassis. That was the last C-Class to have the 6.2l engine and that one was indeed NA. The one after, which is the “old one” in this video is the W205, which has a 4l TT V8.
The V8 is a dreamcar, the 4 cyl is trivial. If you have the money, buy some V8’s, store them in a nice place, and sell them 20 years from now with a nice profit.

That car would've struggled to keep up it's did 12.9sec on the 1/4mile this one did 12.1 1/4mile, the 7-speed transmission is faster shifts quicker then the 9 speed, it's good for acceleration, in other races the it's lost to the G80 M4 Competition but the 7-speed version it's murder the M3 Competition (same power as the M4) even the new AMG GT63 Coupé with 9 speed transmission isn't faster then the old AMG GTR cause the 7-speed shifts quicker, it's good for acceleration, the 9 speed is about efficiency and comfort it's also good for going fast but not as good as the old 7 speed

Both are incredible. That 4 cylinder is mind boggling though! I wonder if it’s just as durable as the V8. Either one is a win (if you ignore the lack of sound from the new one). I think it would be expensive if you wanted to tune though but at the same time its more than fast enough.

The day the news came out that a 4 cyl was going into the c63 I was so appalled I started shopping specifically for 2008 s63 AMG (w221)’s. I’ve bought two both under 50k miles. I'm a massive Merc fan but I have to admit a lot of their recent stuff has been way off the mark. Probably the e63, GT and g wagon are the only proper Merc's they still make
Not me! I would take this 4 cylinder with 680 horsepower and 1020 of torque (0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.) When I get a AMG I am getting it for the performance more than the sound. The sound is secondary. I would rather win the race then lose the race with sound. Instead of appreciating that Mercedes is giving us F1 racing technology, most every one here is knocking it down. Thank you Mercedes for giving us this new F1 racing technology which is amazing for a 4 cylinder. I would take this car any day and be very happy.

I have the old one, and would never even think of buying the new 4cyl, even though mine struggles alot of the line, but there is a whole lot to win to shift it much earlier, ive done a 100-200km/h in 7.55sek when shifting at ~6300rpm, was hitting around 8-8.2 when i go full auto shifting, its a stage one car

The Good: I think the 4 cylinder makes so much sense from a performance standpoint. That mixed with the AWD shows they mostly cared about track and drag strip performance, and yeah, that is pretty important on an AMG. Having wrenched on M139's quite a bit (only seen one M139I) the 4 cylinder is an incredibly reliable motor and willing to handle the abuse of 470HP ( rest is from the hybrid) even with the kind of boost they are throwing at it to get it out of that 2 liters of displacement. It could honestly go quite a bit higher, and I'd wager just a shelf tune would completely change the car.
The Bad: Not everyone wants an AMG as a 4 cylinder because it's faster than the V8, and there should have been a V8 option for people that were willing to sacrifice *a little* performance for that fun V8 feel and sound. If people want more performance, they can modify their car. I don't think people that can afford the car are worried about penny pinching.
The Ugly: Having almost 700HP in a European sports car that costs $100k+ and not being in the 10's is really, really bad. The power is there, the AWD is there, annnnnnd it weighs more than an American muscle car. By a lot. Even challengers, the boats of American muscle, some of the heaviest cars out there end up weighing hundreds of pounds less. All because of the hybrid system.
The Worst: At the MSRP of the last generation compared to the new, if you put 30k into last gens C63 it would reliably wash the new car down the drain in every metric. They are smoking crack with the price update. This went from a car for car people to a grocery getter for rich executives that only care about the "performance" specs on the brochure.
The Funny: If an idiot retired master tech that does nursing like me can figure that out, why couldn't Mercedes? This powertrain should be put in the lightest coupe design they can create and marketed as such, and it would be blazing fast, fun, sick car. It doesn't belong in the C63 and it's a disgrace to it's heritage.

dumb take is dumb 101. v8 is garbage, it is really bad car that do not have handling to pair with the engine.
To be fair majority of people buying an estate V8 dont do it for performance, but rather the soul and the compromise of owning a family car and an what-so exotic engine. AMG was always about a V8 and it was a cult thing for Merc. Even tho people cried when it moved from 6.3 to 5.5 then finally to 4.0 it still remained a V8 and it was enough for most people. Chunking a 40% price increase on something that has 170 more hp but also weighs 400-500kg more, while taking away the soul that made an AMG just doesnt cut it. Sales are horrible on these cars, and resale value is even worse. Plus its a straight F1 tech so god knows what the reliability will be on it, while V8 proved to be a decently reliable engine. Merc just wanted to show-boast their racing tech in performance aspect, but forgot that majority of people dont even care about that and that performance was already plenty on the older model. 99% of people ARE NOT tracking their family wagon so puttin in F1 tech is pointless.

I had CLS63 S, 5.5L, 2014. Sold it two years ago and bought different "performance" car. Well... I know I will go back to V8. Performance can't replace that feeling and the sound of the AMG V8. The speed doesn't really matter on the roads. I just want my car to sound great again ;D

@@jgripen969modding your AMG V8 is going to do nothing other than void your warranty and kill the reliability. Think about it, if the motor in the AMG were able to handle 1000 horsepower Mercedes would build it from the factory and warranty it.
If you want to go fast nowadays either go all electric or get a hybrid. I have a car that runs 9 second quarter miles all day long and it has an 8-year warranty. I'm never going back to gasoline, but if you'd like the sound of a V8 buy the AMG and enjoy it. 👍
@@TheMadmax0609 That's why you take your car to a tuning company that disassembles the V8 and upgrades the internals then maps it, most of the good ones will come with a warranty for your engine for a decent amount of time. I used to like electric cars but 99% of them don't have a soul with too much computer hand holding you through the corners then your tyres overheat fast from the weight of the car so you end up understeering most of the time, not fun at all.

That car would've struggled to keep up it's did 12.9sec on the 1/4mile this one did 12.1 1/4mile, the 7-speed transmission is faster shifts quicker then the 9 speed, it's good for acceleration, in other races the it's lost to the G80 M4 Competition but the 7-speed version it's murder the M3 Competition (same power as the M4) even the new AMG GT63 Coupé with 9 speed transmission isn't faster then the old AMG GTR cause the 7-speed shifts quicker, it's good for acceleration, the 9 speed is about efficiency and comfort it's also good for going fast but not as good as the old 7 speed

Both are incredible. That 4 cylinder is mind boggling though! I wonder if it’s just as durable as the V8. Either one is a win (if you ignore the lack of sound from the new one). I think it would be expensive if you wanted to tune though but at the same time its more than fast enough.

100 grand for a c63s is insane
The day the news came out that a 4 cyl was going into the c63 I was so appalled I started shopping specifically for 2008 s63 AMG (w221)’s. I’ve bought two both under 50k miles. Both for around 25k each. I honest to god could lose my ass and still be in love with these cars. Same name on both the engines too. One white, one black.
I'm a massive Merc fan but I have to admit a lot of their recent stuff has been way off the mark. Probably the e63, GT and g wagon are the only proper Merc's they still make
Maybe add the A45 s too, because it is what it was meant to be, and it's still properly doing it.

Not me! I would take this 4 cylinder with 680 horsepower and 1020 of torque (0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.) When I get a AMG I am getting it for the performance more than the sound. The sound is secondary. I would rather win the race then lose the race with sound. Instead of appreciating that Mercedes is giving us F1 racing technology, most every one here is knocking it down. Thank you Mercedes for giving us this new F1 racing technology which is amazing for a 4 cylinder. I would take this car any day and be very happy.
You’ll blow it up, that little engine is being pushed to its mechanical limits. Push the v8 to near its mechanical limits and you’ll see it’s an economy engine. They can keep them.
