Both great automobiles. For me the 4 door C63 AMG w204 is it. I love the rawness of how it feels and yes it does take more of a skilled driver to tame it's wild side. I could have purchased a 2017 C63, however I chose a 2013 after I drove the 2017.

The reason the C63 is tough to slide is because from factory it does not come with LSD. That’s is the first thing I’d do when I get one

A great Fifth Gear episode. I recently bought a 2008 E92 M3 with a manual gearbox & EDC, mostly stock apart from the exhaust which makes in sound epic. Love the C63 AMG Merc too and the Audi RS4/RS5 also worth considering. The modern equivalents of these cars may be faster but not as much fun imo.
I would trade new Top Gear in for more Fifth Gear episodes with these two in a heartbeat. Always good fun to watch, especially the head-to-head tests like this.

Agreed. Clarkson, Hammond and May are the best and they always will be for me. Still, I do think that Fifth Gear deserved a few more seasons because it was a good car show. I hope it'll return one day with Jason Plato back as presenter.

both m5 and m3 is nice...but e92 m3 design is timeless in my opinion ... 2 door with sporty lookin beast damn!!
Couldn't agree more. The E90 really looks terrible, but the E92 Coupe and E93 Cabriolet look great.
Honestly I think in many ways the new versions of both cars have gone backwards. The BMW especially. The V8 in the E92 sounded so much nicer than the current M4, and it looked a lot nicer too. At least the C63 still has a V8, albeit muffled with turbos and a slightly anonymous look. The E92 is a future classic for sure!

Nostalgic looking back at those memories
TRUE STOREY, when I bought my present car, I was deciding between an m3 and a c63.
I weighed up all the pro's and con's, it was nip and tuck. one was better at this, the other better at that. eventually I decided to see if I could find some people who'd owned both, I did and they came ever so slightly out in favour of the c63 (but still not enough to convince me).
THEN I found one m3 owner, who stated 'when I see a c63 coming i wind my window down to hear it go by', THAT was enough, i'd just like to say thanks to the guy whoever he was.
ps the final conformation was when out on the test drive with my wife, and in comfort mode i buried the pedal to try the kickdown, there was an almighty BANG! and the car hurled itself forward, and she let out a scream. i told her to 'stop screaming' and she replied 'the headrest just hit me at the back of the head'. enough said.

but the c63 is pure entertainment each and every time, I never drive it without a smile on my face, unless I've just terrified myself.

I have the e92 and have driven both cars, honestly i like both but the m3 suits me more :)

Edward Ashbolt C63 has a lot more torque than m3 but they both still do 0-60 in 3.9 secs

The difference is bigger actually because the 4.0 V8 tends to be a bit weaker than the claimed 420 HP. Most I’ve seen are in the 390-400 HP range.
Stéphane Yvelines are you talking wheel hp? Or crank hp? M3 S65 will make 360 wheel hp give or take
i just bought a c63 and i can say as nice as that m3 is on the track, the c63 just sounds absolutely BRUTAL, that m156 V8 has a legendary sound and status.

I loved these fifth gear head to heads when it was tiff and jason, they actually put the cars head to head and diced about with each other. It was great to watch.
Would choose the Merc any day of the week.
Both are great cars, personally I prefer the M3. If only Mercedes offered a manual and not this sluggish automatic which strangles the engine.

Amg is a fucking boat,talentless chassis,no diff unless spec’d that says how much of a performance car.yes they have a bit more power and sounds a little better stock but the m3 just needs a box mod then it sounds easily as good. M3 over amg as they don’t do corners amg’s.
With the M3 the car is the tool, with the C63 the driver is the tool.

@@davec8730 All cars have 'tools', the ones that go after the one that give them TH-cam views (last 10 years) and before the one people though would attract hot women (no cars).
BMW M's have never been about the biggest engine or more flashy, but rather the handling and track performance (1/4 mile is a relative new thing for BMW to be good at).
Even upcoming M4 with 500hp is lagging the C' by 7 years on power ... but still expected to be faster on track. MB also have much more powerful (and track focused cars, but way more costly) so people tend to imaging 'their car' (aka what they are fanboiing about) is the biggest engine, fastest track time, best space .etc. and then compare it to a single other car (and always get mad if somebody then does the same with i.e. BMW and add in their MCs).
TH-cam have def. multiplied the arsehole factor across the board ... which has kept me away from some cars I actually wanted, but where the public image is been destroyed.

Merc is a heritage racecar brand, it takes a real car person to truly appreciate the Benz and AMG styling.
Great chemistry between Tiff & Jason, these guys could be driving a Fiat 126 and it would still be fun!!
If I want to have power slide fun, the Merc is the preferred choice. For sheer handling grip, the BMW is still unbeatable.
Had both of them. The Merc has incredible power and sounds great, very good as a daily car. Bmw also sounds good, but sometimes you can feel the lack of torque, i had the manual transmision and in the city it's a little bit tough to drive but on a twisty road, my god, it's heaven. Overall my pick it's the m3. Superior handling with a great feel to the driver and a better interior quality.

@@Tigeravocado-p3v big engine isn't always better. Yes it has more power, but there's still weight distribution that affects handling. Bigger displacement means more weight.

Got me self an M3 E93 Convertible 2011...fully loaded in monti carlo blue, best colour, best ever m3 i have had, and i have had few....Will never sell this animal..thanks 5th gear....
I prefer the looks of the C63 before it had the facelift in 2012, but I prefer both these C63 and the M3 over the cars that replaced them with their stupid, fake noised, small, boring engines that has handling with no feel and an engine with no feel thanks to the turbos and the fact that they are small. Thanks environmentalists! (NOT)

It was not entirely environmentalists, BMW finds it cheaper to have more series with similar engines and other parts. More profit, less expenses. BMW prices also has raised in april, while recently the warranty time has decreased. Their is many other factors of why there is no M3 v8. I own a 2012 ZCP e92 m3, although fun, it's hard to reach 14.2 MPG. especially the DCT gear ratio on 7th gears are at higher RPMs during 80 MPH highway cruise (3 RPM ish). Sometimes I wish I bought the f82 m4, but I really like the e92. Luckily I have the 2011 E90 328i which seems like a better choice for a daily.
That’s all german brands there all fighting a fuel efficiency war in Europe and sucks the whole world has to pay it for with these engines

Interesting how in Britain, the Benz was more expensive. Here in Brazil, the Benz was considerably cheaper than the M3 and, as a result, sold like hot cakes.

C63 carries a Drug dealer stigma, Same as the F80 M3 .. rare to see any of the previous N/A m3’s on the road with real drivers behind the wheel.. S65 is a great engine, minus the rod bearing issue .last of the Real V8’s imo ..
Love amg and m, both divisions make fantastic cars. I own that e92 m3 and it is epic.

The sound & the front fascia of the e92 M3 makes it waaaaay cooler than the w204
C63 engine is too big and I'm sure you wont like the fuel consumption.ld rather go for M3

Big engine isn't always means performance. There's still another aspects like weight distribution and handling, that works well on the racetrack. BMW has been doing it for ages, with its 50:50 weight distribution.
And also bigger displacement means more weight, which will affect handling and cornering. That's the merc case.

im still trying to handle my 09 c63 as im used to driving manual transmission cars. the engine is a beast, the transmission is ok but they don't make a manual. love m3s but i couldn't pass on the amg and its current price
I do not see the guy in the Mercedes using manual , he was not using the paddles , why do people race these cars without using them ? I love using mine . When in manual , you use all the power the car has to give . There are three settings Comfort mode , slow for the snow and rain , Sport mode , releases more power and manual , releases all power .

My C63 was 100% reliable in the 5 years I owned it. Just traded up to a Carrera S. I have owned Hondas, family has owned Toyotas and Datsuns. This is my 4th German car and I have no regrets. But I loved the old 6.2L so when I saw this vid I wanted to hear that engine again. Then I see this bigoted drivel. I live about as far south in the US as you can get by the way. Trump is a joke and if you were actually well informed you would know that even his own party is against him. But many people fear that Hillary is worse. So it's a sore subject here either way and that makes it an easy target for some keyboard commando to take shots at Americans. Great job! I see the same things posted on almost every car video now and it's so tired. You're both just rehashing cliches or stereotypes.
