If you haven't heard, Ozempic, the blockbuster medication for diabetes and weight management, is causing stomach paralysis. From what I can piece together from recent news articles, individuals took Ozempic and developed full-blown stomach paralysis even after discontinuing the medication.
Ozempic is a GLP-1 receptor agonist - it mimics or acts in a similar fashion to the hormone GLP-1 that our body naturally produces.
And in medical terms, stomach paralysis is called gastroparesis, defined as a slowing of gastric emptying or how quickly food is going from your stomach to your small intestine.
So, what's causing this stomach paralysis? is it Ozempic? or something else?
Have you experienced stomach paralysis while taking Ozempic? Let me know in the comments!

Most doctors get kick backs for drugs they push, so you HAVE to research and rely on your own knowledge of what you’re putting in your body. Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro can all lead to gastroparesis, just look it up. I literally despise when a doctor says well it’s possible, maybe, can’t say for sure when it’s the only drug you’re taking. If you’re getting answers like that it’s time to find an ethical doctor or one that doesn’t need to go back to medical school.

I agree. Why are we just now hearing about this? Like you said, is this occurring with weight loss patients or diabetics? Because I never heard these complaints with them. I have been doing fine with Wegovy for about 5 months now. Occupational slight constipation, but since titrating up, I manage to go at least twice a day now. I am on 1.7mg for the 2nd go round now because I decided to stay put on this dose because it's doing fine for me.

From what I hear, the (much) higher dose of Semaglutide was only recently approved by the FDA, in 2022. These newer high dosages had NOT previously been lab tested, but because the medication itself was already approved, it was released as "post market data." So basically, the people taking it *are* the experiment/"lab rats" (for lack of a better term.

On Ozempic about 18 months. Yes I had horrid side effects but I consulted my Dr. And we found easy solutions. Sulphur burps Gas X worked wonders, nausea and vomiting sucked but we found the Gas X and some over the counter nausea stuff actually worked for me, I just take it the day prior to my dose and for the next 2 days. My A1c dropped from a 12 to a 4.5 and because I don't crave sweets or fatty foods I have lost 112 lbs. I just had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and both had the best results I've ever had. My liver scans showed vast improvement. So for me it has definitely been a life saver. I don't know if I would recommend the weight loss Wegovy because of the side effects, I probably would have quit taking it. But for my diabetes I kept going. I'm glad I did. I am also glad I have an amazing Dr who had me in to do checks every few weeks those first months.

I have Type II diabetes and I have been taking Ozempic (semaglutide) 1.0mg/week since August 2022, without major issues. It has enabled me to achieve better HbA1c results whilst drastically reducing my intake of bolus and basal insulins.
I am aware that many people who take Ozempic suffer nausea and are then prescribed Zofran (Ondansetron). I recall, circa 2001, when I was working in anaesthesia in the UK, a young woman suffering gastroparesis after being prescribed Ondansetron alone. This proved long-lasting and required surgical intervention. She had no other pre-existing health issues. She had become nauseous whilst working as a cabaret singer on a cruise liner and was given the Ondansetron to counter sea sickness.
It would be interesting to see data on the Ozempic-taking patients who suffer gastroparesis and if they are taking antiemetics.

What also needs to be taken into consideration is what side effects people are reporting to their providers. From experience, I know that patients will lie about their side effects in hopes of a dose increase because they are chasing complete appetite suppression. That being said, if they aren’t having bowel movements but claim they are and the provider increases the dose, I can see how “permanent” paralysis would occur.

My doctor put me on the lowest dose and I've been on it for 2 months. I'm type 2 diabetic and my doctor wanted me to try this out becaude she told me insulin that i normally take can cause weight gain and with me being extremely obese she tought this could be a good thing for me. When i started taking Ozempic, my husband and i did an extreme diet change....we omitted all grains, sugars, anything processed and all of the bad oils and foods in the nightshade family. Started eating more proteins and green vegggies. And because of the higher amounts of protiens and with intermittent fasting we aren't eating alot. We notice for both of us (he isn't on Ozempic) our frequency of 💩 are way different now) so i can't say my gastric "issues" arent from Ozempic cause i changed so many variables. But i my constipation isn't causing me any discomfort but when i finally go....i gotta go and i can tell i need to go soon cause i start to be gasy. After about 2-3 days if i haven't gone i take a laxative. And prior to being on Ozempic my blood sugars in the morning were about 120 if not better. So i don't know and so far I've lost about 22 pounds. My husband has veen hearing all of this and has concerns but like most of y'all have mentioned alot of people who are taking it aren't diabetic

I have gastroparesis from muscular dystrophy and when I heard how people felt on ozempic I questioned how anyone would want to feel like they had gastroparesis willingly. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I openly wondered whether people’s stomachs would return to normal after going off ozempic. The risk reward profile makes sense if you have diabetes but if it is purely for weight loss at a normal weight or where lifestyle changes would be effective for weight loss then the risk/reward profile is very different.

Once in your stomach it shouldn’t then cause you to develop food poising days later if the chicken was cooked due to the acidic environment. My doctor put me on Ozempic when my labs came back with Type 2 Diabetes on 5/2/23. One thing I have learned is everyone reacts to Ozempic differently. For me, I started the diarrhea from the get go and I had no control over my bowels. There would be seepage all thru the night and many times I could not make it to the bathroom in time. I was able to slow it down tremendously by using 2 different fiber supplements and with trial and error it was manageable. By the 15th or 16 week my body finally adjusted and I now have normal bowel movements. Today will be 18 weeks and I’ve lost 37 pounds. From the beginning, I did not follow a specific diet but just ate lower carbs, medium to high protein and medium fat. I also did the 18/6 daily fast with my eating times between noon and 6 pm… 2 meals, no snacks and bulletproof coffee upon waking. I believe this way of eating is what made the difference for me and Ozempic changed my relationship with food so it was not very difficult to follow. In fact, I was more concerned about losing the weight too fast … what a problem to have … LOL! Throughout this time I never increased the dosage… stayed at the lowest dose .25 mg injected in the stomach.

A medication that causes nausea and a medication that stops the feeling of hunger ? Humm?
Nausea( to the point of vomiting ) causes damage overtime - some diabetics already have neuropathy- so in my opinion ….
The ozempic is causing the damage . It’s all in the nervous system, the more damage to the nerves the more damage to the GI system- could potentially even increase malabsorption in some ( speculations) . ( not a doctor , I just like to read and research a lot )

My fiancé was told she has gastropesis sorry for the misspelling from taking this drug. She was admitted to the hospital because shes been throwing up for months and not able to eat or drink anything. She was told to stop taking the semi glutide shots. My question is how long will it take her to recover from this. Ive read some comments of 5 to 6 weeks how did yall manage to eat or drink. She's already taking alot of nausea meds and a nausea patch.

Thank you for sharing all of this information. Another speculation I have is that many people struggling with obesity are already struggling with their mental health and food is a coping mechanism. If Ozempic takes away the will to eat and new coping mechanisms haven’t been developed, one could spiral pretty hard.

@@theofficialdrdan I would think their doctor should know that and a good doctor will monitor this medication. Mine is.We email every week.I read an article about a woman that was vomiting all the time and ended up in the emergency room several times. She wanted to sue.She was on a high dose of Ozempic for over a year! Her doctor told her to stay on it, then she developed Gastroparesis. That is her doctor's fault. Why would any doctor tell her to stay on that medication? My journey has been a long one.Started at 300 lbs before finding out I was a diabetic. I was about 260 pounds when I first found out. I was in the hospital for a few days. I lost 60 pounds from changing my diet and exercising. I have pretty much stayed the same size for several years. I would gain and lose 15 pounds. I found new things to help me. Taking Ozempic at a low dose along with changing even more things ,I have finally gotten over that plateau and now need to lose 30 lbs. Before it was 70! I started taking it last week in April this year. Most side effects are headache, nausea, some constipation.you don't want to eat very much which is normal. My AlC is going to be really good.My clothes are lose. Will need to buy some soon.To me the side effects are worth it. If I was sick and in the emergency room I would not take this medication and I am sure my doctor would not fill it. I am not going to be Obese any longer very soon. That outweighs the side effects for me.I am also, not an emotional eater. I am too busy for that. The doctors writing this medication should get some of the blame. They will if there is a big lawsuit. Novo Nordisk needs to put a Black Box warning on this drug, so there is no misunderstanding what can happen.

That’s with any obesity drug or procedure. That’s why people that had obesity surgeries used to have to go through lots of pre surgery mental health coping therapy as a requirement. Because it’s known that after surgery, many either go back to poor eating or binge eating stretching out their new egg size stomachs or they develop other types of addictive behavior such as drugs or alcohol, gambling, shopping addictions, etc. but all that really doesn’t have to do with gastroparesis development. Many already have some form gastroparesis either from pre diabetes or diabetes.

Can’t move around much or I get nauseated. Is it normal for these side effects to hit so fast? I still can’t eat anything and can only take small sips of water. Miserable.

I was very nervous on my .5mg , because I was going in a Vacation Cruise , to my surprise I feel grate and I was able to eat. I am going to call my doctor to see if I can go back down the .50 dose as the 1.0 is doing me in, been on it 14 weeks now at 1.0. I take my shot on Monday and sick until late Wed. so bad I sleep with a freaking trash can to puke in. Puking is the least of the issues - it is the extreme diarrhea that is actually making me nauseous. Ginger Tea helps, laying on left side etc.. but I am so done with this. yes my A1C is 5.8 now but not sure it is worth it. Also I have Hyperthyroidism - which I found funny cause I was obese, guess insulin won the hormone war cause of my diabetes. Now that I am losing weight and blood sugar under control. working on thyroid issue. I know it is causing my heart palpitations and other things so it could be making ozempic side effects worse, who knows?

As someone with gastroparesis due to muscular dystrophy I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I have vomited so much in my lifetime. My teeth have been affected by all the vomiting and my awful diet. I have a very limited diet and often a liquid or soft diet. I would kill for a salad, fruit and a steak or burger. I can only eat a limited amount of things. I qualify for a feeding tube but a JG tube comes with it’s own set of complications so am resisting until I have zero options. I am chronically malnourished. I have to get an iron infusions because I can’t take any oral tablet without ending up in the ER the next day. I take Carnitine because I barely eat any protein which has also affected my muscles. I have ended up in the ICU with starvation ketoacidosis with electrolyte imbalances and weighing 90lbs. Due to a Covid wave that hit as I was in hospital I didn’t get a feeding tube put in after that stay but almost ended up on TPN with a PICC line and had to slowly learn how to eat again. Imagine the first day of a bad case of gastroenteritis with just vomiting and the severe nausea that comes with it and imagine existing like this for most of your day everyday. Don’t think a sleeve is how most with GP are treated and sleeve also has seriously health implications.

@@theofficialdrdan I think they meant lose weight the HEALTHY old-school way. You know, by eating a healthy diet and exercising more, rather than pumping yourself full of Big Pharma poison.

That happened when i overindulged on chocolate almond bark. Gotta mind the diet on this stuff.

@@theofficialdrdan I have noticed in my Ozempic/wegovy support group that a lot of people ignore the diet and exercise because they think the injection will do the job.
Then they complain about paralyzed stomach, constipation, vomiting, etc. you have to work with the injection, or the side effects will happen.

As someone who has had longterm gastroparesis would not wish it on anyone. Once your weight is reduced and have better blood sugar control the risk/reward profile changes and that should be discussed with your doctor.

It should. I was doing great on my own tracking food and walking several miles a day. They think I have this now and I didn’t even take any weight loss drugs. I wouldn’t wish it upon an enemy. My brother took ozempic for a couple of months and is fine but after he found out what I am going through he won’t go on any more weight loss drugs

I only take 0.5 mg for my diabetes and I’m dying from the side effects. I don’t understand how women are taking 1-2 mg and still be alive ☠️☠️☠️

This has nothing to do with that. The drug is approved for Obesity. Plus the news stories involve people who have been using it for diabetes. Let's have some compassion for our fellow humans. 💜

Do you have any idea how I got it? I didn’t even take weight loss drugs. One day I woke up and realized I couldn’t eat the food I was eating without feeling stufffed. Ended up in the Er 3 times in two weeks lost 17 pounds in 14 days. This has been going on since May 3
