The doctor is correct. 98% are just writing prescriptions with absolutely no direction. I had to learn from TH-cam and comments. I think I have it down perfect for now. You have to prep your body before you take these drugs in the beginning. I cut out processed foods and only vegetables as carbs. My meats were lean(dumb mentality of no fat). Then I started Mounjaro, the first 2-3 weeks was basically a none trusting fart experiences. Your body will get use to it. But you have to take advantage and feed it correctly with Whole Foods. Don’t be like everyone that goes from eating 3-4 slices of pizza to one slice of pizza. No, eat good food. Train your body while the drug distracts your brain and habits of bad eating. Build new good habits, these drugs are traing wheels we will have to take off eventually. The inflammation down so much, I couldn’t believe the walking without pain. Learning from several doctors on here, I am on a flip flopping cycle. I eat 2 meals a day 700-900 calories each, high protein and high fat now. I have coffee in morning with MCT oil and cocoa bliss. Total calorie is 135 all fat. I reduced my eating window from 1200-0530. I started 24hr fast on Mondays and every other week I do a 48hr fast mon/tue. I still have coffee with MCT oil on those days. My ketones stay high those days. I did the CGM, hate the fcking alarms. I had days were I was 55-75. Alarm goes off under 70. I feel fine. I even walk and it will raise it. I found lifting weights raised my blood sugar. By 10-25 points. I realized I am on a dirty keto carnivore. I eat green vegetables under 150 calories twice a week and eat 2 avocados a week on other days. Yes I eat fresh fish, meat, pork, chicken, and can fish when out. Every 2 weeks I have a 150 calorie piece of dark chocolate for antioxidants. Once a month I have a keto cereal with berries and heavy cream. I am up to walking 2-3 miles a day 3-4 times a week. I lift weights 3 days. Sunday rest. On fast days I walk and lift. Found Ketone IQ with my amino electrolytes water is awesome on fasting days before long walks and lifting weight. This June was 486lbs. Today down to 360lbs. I average 5lbs a week loss. Still on Mounjaro, never went above 5mg and I stretch my shots out to 8-10 days. Look forward to my appointment with Doctor Cywes summer of 2024. For exit strategy. Do not be quick to titrate up. Stay as low as possible. Help the drug work, it will help you. It’s a partnership.
Well done! Really well done! Keep it up. My weight loss ambitions weren’t as ambitious as what you are striving for, but met my target today. It took about 8 months. Your write-up about what you are doing is very much like what I did, but on steroids! Keep up the good work!
Don't let the doctors off the hook. They write prescriptions with great intent. The medical industry & big pharma are in cahoots. They need repeat customers. So they give you a pill that is a band aid for one thing, & it causes several other problems.
As a nurse, you are a very refreshing physician to learn from & a nice "break from the norm" of what I hear day-to-day. Thank you for the education and the help that you are giving to the healthcare community.
I am soooo thankful for this video! I am almost finished with my first month on zepbound and I used it to quit sugar, quit snacking, pretty much eating keto but not much dairy, I get more water, and started walking 30 minutes daily. Super simple habits but coupled with the Glp1 is good. I’m a little over ten lbs down
Ok your credibility is shot to hell with that proclamation that there is no Covid in Florida .. give me a break ….Florida is the Covid capital of the world with all those seniors 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️so stop
I started taking Mounjaro 2.5 mg for a month and now 5 mg for 2 weeks. Have lost 24 pounds from 258 lbs to 234 lbs in 6 weeks. I eat 1 meal a day between 1-4pm with lean protein, 2 low carb vegetables and a crab or carrot salad. At night only green tea or an occasional protein and greens smoothie with almond milk. No dairy, No sodas, No fried foods, no sugar. I keep my carbs below 10 grams a day and follow the ketogenic diet. My mind feels very clear and my energy has skyrocketed and my sleep is better. I really don’t feel tired ever. Will never go back to my old way of eating junk all the time. If it comes in a box or package I can’t eat it. I am 69 y.o.
Lost me as soon as he mentioned using another product, I think what most doctors say is more accurate. Take your new found taste for healthier food in smaller portions and change your habits
Being obese leads to heat attack and diabetes. My use of Mounjaro helped me lose 36 pounds and my A1C went from 7.6 to 5.4. I have no side effects at all. I do track my calories but if we need to be on this medication for life why is that a big deal. Diabetics take insulin for life. Bariatric surgery is far more invasive and many people even after gastric bypass surgery also can gain back weight. Thank God they have discovered these medications.
I’m not the original poster, but I have lost 80lbs on Mounjaro and I used all doses over the past year. I titrated up quickly but wish I hadn’t moved up doses so quickly. The only thing I’d change is to stay on the lowest dose possible for as long as possible and you’re still losing. And to go low and slow so you can integrate your new lifestyle alongside the weight loss and exercise. If you just lose weight and don’t exercise, and eat crappy food, you’ll wind up thin and weak. I’m coming down slowly from 15-12.5-10mg now and will continue to decrease until something changes. I would like to see if I can get completely off and see where my fasting insulin level settles in. The reason I got to top doses was simply my doctor recommended it. She was learning too. It’s been a bit of a bumpy process, but I’m off sooooo many meds and I’m rebuilding my health! Good luck! BTW-early and fast weight loss isn’t sustainable nor ideal. Some ppl lose a few pounds a month and they stay on 2.5mg for their entire journey. Take time to dial in what works for you!
Starting Mounjaro. A1c 9.9. I plan to use this medication to help me wean off sugar and carbs so if, down the line, my insurance kicks me off when I no longer have diabetic numbers, I am no longer addicted to sugar and carbs. On my own, I ALWAYS go back to high carbs BECAUSE I'm addicted. By using this medication as a tool, I plan to finally push through and be sugar/carb free WITHOUT medication in the long term. Wish me luck!
Thank you so very much for this video Dr. Cywes, Because of this video, I got an ultrasound on my liver and low and behold I have a fatty liver after having insulin resistance for years that no other Dr. caught. I just got lectured diet and exercise over and over regardless of hours of training and caloric restriction. I am not obese so no one thought to look at my liver. Thank you for giving me the information to be able to advocate for myself 💌
I had lost 75 lbs with Intermittent Fasting. It took me 2.5 years to break the bad food habits/addictions. It was at this time I partnered with my Nurse Practitioner and was prescribed Mounjaro. I have lost a total of 103 lbs to date with 28 lbs from adding this medication. It takes dedication and must be permanent lifestyle. Good Luck to all who are in the good fight to lose the weight. This medicine can be life changing, but bad food habits can be hard to kick...Therapy can be so helpful too.
Yup…Two months ago I weighed 254 lbs. I started Mounjaro along with a strict Keto life style. Today 5/24/24 I weigh 209 lbs. on my way to 190 lb. Weight goal! The good carb doc knows his stuff!
So it’s ok to eat fat/be keto on this ? Part of me Thinks the fat helps keep you satiated and you eat less if it since calorie dense but then I heard it may. Upset stomach taking this peptide/drug?
Dr. Cywes and Sheryl are amazing! I appreciate Dr. C’s direct approach and Sheryl, the dietitian, knows her stuff! They have helped me so much. 30lbs down and feel I have been given and taught the tools to be a success story!
Amen ! I’m right there with you … “sickness with sugar “, that sums me up ! I need this doctor in my life , the information he provided is so helpful !
So do I!!! I am a diabetic, I just finished an accelerated Masters program. After eating crazy from the stress of school and working full time. I take metformin, and I just started Ozempic 0.25 this past Sunday. I am taking notes from TH-cam to manage this new lifestyle.
Great info , gone from 850lbs to 380lbs last 16mos. , you can’t change unless you address the underlining issues , and I’m finding that is not only more difficult but the most important part of your lifestyle change.
I believe this man because he has a British accent 😅😅😅 Seriously, I start my Zep tomorrow and this is the most even keel, facts forward video I’ve found. No hyperbole or frantic yammering on. I’ve had some success with both keto and intermittent fasting in the past, but I would get unbelievably hungry right before my monthly and eat everything 😢 undoing my hard work. Menopause is knocking on the door, and I want to be healthy when I turn 50. 💪 I’ve been scared to start this med, because another loss/gain cycle would probably leave me in 300 lb territory 😮 I’ll give this zeppy stick a good go, though. Really appreciate all the good info!
Thanks DR. I have PCOS and only slightly overweight (bmi) but the sugar cravings are killing me. My labs are not good. High cholesterol, high BP, family hx of cardiovascular disease. I’m scared for my life. So I will be starting semiglutide. Your video was very helpful! I’ve benefited from keto in the past and I love to stay active. This PCOS is what’s keeping me from changing my lifestyle. I get discouraged when I make the changes and see no difference. I hope that glp1 is the key to my success ❤ god bless
Tirzepatide is changing my life. I have severe Crohns and am in remission. I'm followed by GI, Rheumatology, Surgery, etc. etc I am losing slowly and will always be on this medication. I have severe insulin resistance. I have NO side effects. My GI who is the head of all the IBD doctors in my area said it is as important for me to be on Tirzepatide as it is to be on Rinvoq. I eat a low to no carb meal plan, feel great, and have extremely improved labs. It's the best thing ever.
Just began Munjaro 2wks ago. They should make this clip mandatory listening! My wife and I have already started to retrain our mindset on portion size and balanced food groups. 12 days - 11lbs. So far, so good
And I assume you’re only on the low dosage starting out. Congrats on your weight loss. If you have diabetes I hope you the best of health. I’m a diabetic and did my first injection last week. Hoping to lose some weight myself.
I am 6 weeks into my journey with Mounjaro, I am starting to lose weight but most important is my blood sugar. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I have been in this condition since 2005. I have tried and tried for years to get my sugars under control and it is very difficult for me. Since being on Mounjaro, my sugar levels have dropped and now consistently range between 90 and 115. I have dropped my insulin intake by about 40% (Toujeo). There seems to be a bit of controversy regarding Mounjaro, but its primary purpose is for type 2 diabetes control and it is working very well for me. I need to lose weight, but sugar control is my primary goal -- and it is working great. I took Trulicity for a couple of years, and it did not help much. It could be I was taking the very low dose (1.5mg). All medicines have some side effects, but for me the end result is worth the cost. Diabetes, if not controlled, will eat you alive!
Awesome video and information! I am on Mounjaro and it has changed my life. I was struggling to lose weight and learning to control my blood sugar. Now I feel more confident and has learned so much. My a1c is down and I am losing weight. I feel better and taking vitamins and supplements as suggested. Sippy sippy! Always has water in reach!
I’m someone that had a Thyroidectomy, have metabolic syndrome, I’m insulin resistant and prediabetic and was once 209 at 5’4” … endo gave me Mounjaro 10mg (I was already on trulicity and it didn’t work)… that was august 1 2022 and then by April 2023 I had lost 56 lbs and felt sooooo much better and my gut health improved. … surprise… you don’t have Type2 Diabetes so insurance no longer covers it even with prior authorization. I’ve gained 46lbs back…Listening to you now …
I was on keto from 2017-2020. I didn't lose on it until I added intermittent fasting. But while I didn't lose on keto, I felt great. I got rid of the inflammation and maintained my weight. I could move without difficulty on keto. Intermittent fasting was great, I lost nearly 50lbs. In 2020, I stopped and gained that 50lbs back. For some reason, I just couldn't get back on keto. In May 2022, I started semiglutide. Since then, I"ve lost 90lbs, working my way back to full keto/carnivore. I'm planning on a tummy tuck in the fall, so I'm focusing on low carb, high protein to help build muscle. I made homemade meatballs with bacon, cheese, and ground beef. I eat either those or chicken wings every day for lunch. Dinner is either more meatballs, steak, or bacon/eggs. The semiglutide was a huge game changer for me and I'm now the same weight I was in high school. It's taking time, but I'm breaking those bad food habits and getting back into a good workout routine.
@@dogcrazy25 I am currently on "maintenance dose", I"m taking it every other week until after I have my tummy tuck this fall. I know I can maintain a stable weight on keto. I plan on weaning off once I have the tummy tuck and re-evaluate and see if I want to lose more weight. It is unlikely, I believe I will be satisfied with where I will be. I don't want to be on medication for life to lose or maintain. But keto/ketovore has become a lifestyle for me.
I’m Carnivore but need to drop 20 lbs. I’m going to try GLP-1 injections. I was wondering if carnivore diet worked with injections. I think for you it did? Let me know how you feel after eating meat.
So basically eat small, healthy portions regularly and excercise... this is why we are in this situation to begin with lol...that's me making light of it, but I really do appreciate your explanation and you helped me better understand what this drug is doing for my body. You have a new subscriber Doc! 😊
This is very helpful, thank you Doc. I have lost plenty of weight with the additional support of ozempc, but I did increase activity level as well as amended my eating habits. So for me, it has worked as intended
I wish I could send a before and after picture of myself. I’ve done the carnivore diet for 7 months along with Mounjaro and I’ve lost 102lbs and feel amazing, no more pain
Lovvveee this. Great information. I've just started mounjaro 5ml ... on my 2nd week now, and was not told anything about the medication by my GP or pharmacist. I live in Qld, Australia. Mounjaro is not subsidised by Medicare and costs $320 for 1 month subscription. Thank you for the information.
This was me...lost a little gained a lot...then ...back in March I decided to go keto..... Im drastically improved... down 70lbs a1c blood pressure...way better
Thank you so much for this information. There are so many people out there who believe that the medication alone is gonna solve the weight problems. It was very informative!
I'm taking Mounjaro 5mg, in 9 weeks I have 30 lbs, the initial 20 lbs on Mounjaro 2.5 mg. It's changed my life. I never want to be without this medication for the rest of my life. I have hashimotos thyroid disease, high blood pressure, sarcoidosis, asthma, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea and severe insulin resistance. I have 100 lbs to go. I'm a sugar and carbohydrate addict. I eat quite healthy on this medication but need to do a little better with the exercise and eating more greens.
I am so glad I watched this. I have done both keto and carnivore and know that they work. I just started Zepbound yesterday. I was told to eat protein and complex carbs to avoid any sickness so I was terrified to try and eat ketovore. This made me feel so much better knowing that I certainly can.
I was on it! Was doing great and the shortage came and was off it for 5 months. Doc is absolutely on the money with how much you gain back. Will do better with diet and exercise this time.
This is the first time I hear a physician speak from such indepth knowledge, esp with Type 1 Diabetes! I'm a Type 1, on Ozempic and not losing at all. My hba1c is at 8.2... I believe your clinic has such an amazing approach losing weight! BTW, I think your accent is South African? I'm also South African and I wish we had more physicians who were skilled with glp meds. My endocrinologist is not 100% on-board with GLP-meds.
My doctor, who I adore, first prescribed wegovy I ate reasonably but was gastric mess. I quit after a month. She then prescribed Zepbound but I explained how miserable I was. All she said was eat less. I have never been a person that eats large amounts, I eat sweets too much. So all she said was eat smaller portions multiple times throughout the day. It was better but still have some gastric issues. I had to do my own research to find how to properly eat to avoid the side effects.
Need help here, I eat meat but not everyday, certainly not twice a day! I don't like cooking anymore (71) and am very concerned about how this can possibly work for me. Why would I want to take another med that promises so many other issues? Can you share some of your references? TYA!
Thank you for your video. In search of a doctor in southern California that really cares enough to get me on the right path. I was just prescribed metformin and ozempic with no other lifestyle or diet recommendations and my current doctor doesn't care or have the time to really help me. I was eating low calorie and low fat diet for the past decade with no carb, sugar, or fruit restrictions and in turn destroyed my metabolic system.
American diet of processed food and no regular exercise has contributed to physical and mental health issues. Improving these areas by life-style behavioral changes should be first. Then, if there continue to be health issues, medications prescribed. Mental health will improve with the life-style changes.
I started taking Mounjaro December 16, 2022 because I had developed type 2 diabetes. The way Mounjaro made me feel was spectacular! No more food obsession, being able to stop eating because I finally felt full! I ate solid food once daily and decided (on my own with zero help or counsel from my endocrinologist) that I would eat low carb and high fat (especially after seeing what a baked potato did to spike my blood glucose level)! The diabetes went away after less than three months (A1C is 5.2, fasting glucose is 85). I lost 80 pounds by September 2023. Then, despite a normal EKG, a CRP of zero, triglyceride to HDL ratio of 1.6, and no more arthritis breakthrough pain, my endocrinologist started whining about my high LDL cholesterol! It was high at 196, but I had no inflammation! My CAC is 18 (I’m nearing 60 years old, so not bad). I got seriously stressed by my doctor’s insistence that I was going to drop dead within days and really had to get myself together. I even took Nexletol, but then started getting those awful, statin-like, painful muscle twitches and weak upper thigh muscles (with cramping this time as well). I went off that poison and since I was on a roll, I even weaned off the Nexium I’d been taking for 26 years. The heartburn wouldn’t go away, so I reduced the Mounjaro (at my request, not my doc’s) back to 2.5mg per week. It got better but did not go entirely away, so I stopped the Mounjaro (about a month ago) and am just waiting to get my blood test before I go to a high fat carnivore (elimination) diet. Up until tomorrow, I still eat some veggies like onions, garlic, cabbage, cucumbers and tomatoes, but they give me heartburn. I was hoping I could keep drinking my cream in my coffee, but alas, the cream gives me terrific heartburn. I did continue to lose another 10 pounds after the last three months, but not at the rate I was losing before I let that god-dang doctor stress me out. I go tomorrow for labs that I ordered through the “Own my Labs” website where I will be able to get the NMR cholesterol panel I asked for, but that none of my current docs would order (claiming it was redundant). If the LDL drops, I will be filing an adverse event with Eli Lily.
Some doctors " keep" you thinking you are sick so you kerp going to them and doing further tests. I went to an endocrine dr for 3 yrs and he did nothing but test me every three months and tell me " you are fine" , but kerp working on this and this and it drove me MENTALLY insane , my tests were really good but he kept alluding to me that i needed to " work on it". Work on what, i finally asked questions and stopped going to him, i felt healthier bc i did common sense " dieting". Keeping my sugar intake to a minimal, my carbs to a minimal, exercise and not extreme restriction . I have stayed the same wright now for over 5 yrs and feel a lot better. Remember, some doctors KEEP YOU SICK!
I totally agree. I see so many people who are just getting the rx and no other supporting treatment. No nutrition classes or dietary changes etc. I started mounjaro 2.5 and started eating keto & IF in april and have lost 75lbs but I have completely changed my behaviors with the medication
I am one of 3 siblings. Two can eat whatever they want and look as if they walked out of a gym. I eat LESS, CLEAN homemade organic veggies, researched my entire adult life, exercise like a fit person, and have lived my 51 years STILL 20lbs heavier. I look 29 years younger than my age, but I have the DNA for cellulite, extra fat, etc. When i don't eat, I get very sick. When I eat sugar, very rarely but Christmas and a treat for my bday, I get toxic reaction like being sick. I have learned since my early 20's that sugar makes me sick. I wake up sick. It's terrible poison. My sweets are berries. Period. Fasting only works when I stop eating by 5 and then break the fast with organic coffee and organic half half. Then my first meal is at around 11 am-ish.. Here's my cry: it HURTS to work as hard as I do. Know and employ what I've learned over the years to hear and see people be so quick to be cruel and ASSume, everyone who is not thin, is in some form doing something wrong. As a chikd from preschool to high school, I was terrible bullied by peers and family. I've had been looked at like I ha e no right to eat and even comments and looks that they "feel sorry" for me. It's this idea that you're not good enough wherever you go,you're doing something wrong, you're lesser than.. and women, it's a power play for many of them. Thinner than you, somehow that makes them better. And, I'll say this-- most of the fitness instructors out there wirey thin, they were BORN that way. Smart enough to market it their gift. I don't eat sugar, sugary drinks, bread, grains. I WORK at it. My siblings don't have to. I even make myself walk every evening after dinner for atleast one mile or two. I have a suspicion that my body does not absorb calories well. I also have the MTHFR mutation. I have loved through severe childhood trauma. Stress has been pretty hard on me. But, again, my siblings have the nice genes. They don't at all have to walk after dinner when exhausted. They don't have to do anything special. I do. The blessing for me is I look much younger and have great skin. Starving all the time just to battle, making sure I workout-- living afraid of food, yet have to eat or I get sick-- is terrible. Being made fun of,even as an adult, is terrible. We have to eat to live. We have to deal with food. So, people like me, who do DO THE WORK and do ear keto, healthy fresh veggies, grass fed organic beef, etc-- we need help. No one should have to live like this. It's like a hamster on a wheel as watch other people living life, but you best get on that wheel. If I could live like my siblings, for once, yet I would continue working out, weights, walking, etc bc I want to continue hiking, being active with my grandkids, enjoying life with my spouse... I will still eat the way I do bc my body gets sick eating like most people. I haven't had fast food and restaurants gross me out. So yes, for me-- if the medication give lifts my stress. If it gives me the extra boost to actually receive the rewards of my self discipline hard work, I sure am going to try it. I've done all the work, self discipline and research. People like me have some kind of kink in our DNA. It's like being born without an arm. If there is a med that can help me like a prosthetic arm helps someone , I am all for it. I'm trying Ozempic. My regular doctor won't prescribe it. She's a naturally thin person so she has NO understanding. And, I don't blame her for questioning me. I'm sure most of her patients fib about their health. I hope this helps someone. I hope this helps people think twice when assuming why a person is overweight. I don't need to be skinny. I just want to have some emotional freedom. 🌈🙏🌷
WOW.. learned more from this than from my DR. In fact was told thoI did not need to diet. I'm on a walker from a failed back surgery.. I'm very limited to moving around, infact had two falls in the past 2 months. I went off the generic Ozempic for cost reasons as I'm 77 years old and my budget could not handle it. It cost to eat healthy. Pasta, rice and junk food is cheaper. BUT still staying on mostly salads..no fried foods BUT more carbs the weight started coming back. I gained 30 pounds of the 40 I had lost. So I cancelled one of my life insurance policies and went back on it. I still have to budget food. Can't afford salmon or most seafood, but love canned tuna. Will beat this. Wish you were here in the Rio Grande Valley! Thank you for the information.
Glad to hear your weight loss journey. Please be careful with the canned tuna due to high mercury levels in tuna. I know a woman who always ate a lot of that and was mentally ill. Made me wonder if that contributed.
I watched my dad suffer through the permanent side effects of bariatric surgery. He eventually gained it all back. (We had to arrange all his meals and it was protein first, then sides if he had room. The very first week I understood on my own that GLP-1s were bariatric surgery without the scalpel. You will change what you eat whether you want to or not. I remembered “protein first” and I’ve stuck with that. Even if I have no appetite at ALL I drink a high protein shake. If I skip a meal, I will dry heave. 💯 After I finish my protein if I’m still hungry then I’ll fill up on (aka pick at) the rest of the food on my plate. I listen to my body and eat intuitively. I average 1.4 lbs lost a week. But I had been “dieting” the last 20 years… so I didn’t change what I ate. I already ate 80% clean. I can see what a miserable disaster it could be without a good foundation. When my husband started on them he just followed my lead and he’s doing better than me 😆
Thank you so much for this video! It was mentioned in a Facebook group for Saxenda users (that's how I found you). There is so much valuable information here.
Thank you so much for this, I have been on these meds for over a year and no other support. I just went to my annual and asked for dietician referral so I can better work on my nutrition.
Thank you for the tips and information you gave in this video. I was on Wegovy for six months then plateaued at the 1.7, and 2.4 mg ones for a couple months, and my appetite was back like before. I am still grateful as I lost aprx 35lbs in five months, albeit it was water, I haven’t been under 175 in over 15 years. I still have another 50lbs I’d like to lose to get to my healthy goal weight, but am scared I won’t. My doctor and i decided to switch to Zepbound. Unlike many people online who said to start at 7-10mg of Zepbound since I’ve been on 2.4 mg of Wegovy, that didn’t sit well with me or my doctor, so I went back to day one and started on the 2.5 mg of Zepbound, and I just took my first 5 mg injection. Because I’m starting at the beginning dose, do most people need to wait a bit til they start seeing results again? I exercise, but have no appetite it’s hard to eat. I’m eating tiny things here and there but I don’t think it’s enough. What I have noticed is my fatigue , depression, nausea , and the vomiting, are gone! I’m scared I’m not going to lose anymore weight. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Or any suggestions would be appreciated, from anyone. One last question-is it safe to fast and do intermittent fasting while on GLPs? Again thanks for this video. FYI stock your pantry with lots of zinc, and vitamins. My kids got a cold every week it seems since starting school! Lol
What you explained about giving the rx and go lose weight was my exact thing. I've been on Ozempic for 1 yr 5 months and have only lost 24lbs. I am 69 type 2 Diabetic ( controlled w/food before) hypothyroidism and high blood pressure. I had been doing Keto/Low carb before and continue, but first 5 to 7 months wasn't hungry at all. Now I am at 2mg and have been stuck 168 -171 for over 5 months. I don't move as much as I should and work all day sitting down. I do IF about 3 days a week. I need to change it up because want to lose 24lbs more. Great video - just subscribed. Thank you!!
@@GenRN I work from home and try to move around every hour or so. Also, we have been getting ready to move last 2 months . . . more active than usual and still stuck.
This is right. I'm in the UK but he is telling the truth, I'm pretty much already on a mainly plant based whole food diet but have meat and fish and lots of seeds, nuts and legumes to keep to my 50g of protein daily. I also take vitamin D and K and Omega 3, 6 and 9 along with other micronutrients. I try to balance carbs with fats and proteins and walk as much as possible during the day. I started Wegovy yesterday, I know something is different as I'm not interested in food now and although I couldn't say I'm nauseus, I do have a vague sick feeling and no interest in food, I wouldn't have believed that it has impacted my relationship with food so quickly.
I've been on Wegovy since January 2023. My weight loss started with losing the inches, and then when I started taking the 1.7 dosage of Wegovy, I had a weight loss of 60lbs by September-October 2023. I was weighing 233 lbs and have been there since. I think one of the reasons I have hit a plateau is I haven't been able to exercise the way I wanted to. I had knee surgery to repair a torn MCL, so physical therapy was about six weeks.
Thanks for this info. I was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of years ago and my doctor wanted to put me on something right away. I did very low carb and got my A1c down from 6.8 to 6.0 with diet and lost 25lbs. But my body decided to fight it and it started to back on and A1c went up to 6.4. Doctor wanted me to see a nutritionist who told me that diabetics should never go low carb so I followed her instructions and guess what, my A1C went up to 6.8. My doctor put me on Oz and I’ve lost 12lbs since May but it’s starting to creep back on though A1C is now 5.7. So now she is switching me to Mounjaro…mostly because of the extreme fatigue and constipation. So this time I’ll do low carb and see how it goes.
Just some Encouragement to anyone struggling ➡️ Diagnosis - PCOS , Obesity , Hypertension Mounjaro + Endocrinologist + Dietician + Psychologist + Ketogenic Diet + Water + Exercise - Swim and 20000 steps per day. I’m down 100lbs 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Dr Cwyes is Right!! Without the right support it is an absolute waste of time.
I had really bad anxiety 😕 I really want to go back on this medication. I wish there was a doc un hawaii who could direct me and help me with this medication.
I have been intermittent fasting since 2020. My beginning weight was 265 I now wait 225 before 2020. My highest rate was to 70 ish. I've been a diabetic since 2014, and I've known that carnivore with some vegetables. The right vegetables, ozempic is right for me. Talking to my doctor today
Thank you!! We need Doctors like you in the Pacific Northwest!! Spokane WA/ Coeur d’Alene Idaho!!! Anyone commenting if you know of one in those Cities please Please Share!!!!!
I wasted a year on semiglutide by returning to sugar. I had worse cravings. I had been keto-ish for years but still had a ways to go. I switched to terzepitide ( mounjaro ) and I immediately was able to stop sugar and all carbs other than vegetables. What a difference. I’m back on track and I feel will stay on and if they develop an oral for maintenance at a lower price I would love that.
Thank you Dr Cywes so much for this information. Everything you said was so logical and made so much sense to me. My question is how much protein and fat is considered adequate? I am preparing this week according to your suggestions and will start Ozempic lowest dose next week. I have been very nervous about the possible side effects particularly nausea and diarrhea but hoping these recommendations will help. I am 70/female/type 2 diabetes for over 20 years /high blood pressure/arthritis/5’4”240 lbs. I am at the point where things are only going to get worse for me soon unless I take some definitive action now. I am taking your recommendations to heart as there is no time left for putting this off. I have tried low carb in the past and my blood sugar came down significantly but not the weight which was discouraging. I’m hoping Ozempic will give me the boost I need to see some weight loss which should motivate me to continue.
I have been on Mounjaro for a year now and have loss 70 lbs but now I'm experiencing bloat and gas release. My Nurse Practitioner only gave me Mounjaro because I asked about it at that time weighting 324lbs and being a Type 2 Diabetic with an A1c of 11.2. There is no followup other than doing bloodwork every 3 months and saying "wow you have loss weight" when the numbers on the scale is less. The info that you gave was great and I will be trying some of those things in hopes to help my situation and weight-loss.
Thank you for that information, I am prescribed Mounjaro from my NP. To date of 14 months I’ve lost 260lbs. I’m currently 285 lbs and scared to gain the weight back. I’m on a low calorie/low carb/ high protein diet. I have completely changed my life and myself. I know the medication is a part of the weight loss but with how active I am and how I am eating I know it’s not just the medication. But I am so fearful if I stop I’ll gain it back. I was all the way at 15mg I’ve cut back to 7.5mg and am still losing weight. I changed jobs and my new insurance won’t cover me so I’m paying out of pocket now. I drop about 2-5lbs per week, Some weeks I maintain my weight. Doc any insight would be helpful! Thank you!
A couple years ago I started really drinking more water. And I’ve made other changes in diet. No more soda pop, no more candy or binge eating. But for reasons I cannot possibly understand I still gain weight. I need to make a serious change, I simply cannot eat as much as the people around me.
I weighed myself this morning and achieved my goal weight on Mounjaro🥳. It is a life-changing medication. I lost 20% of my starting weight in 7 months, and my A1C is now 5.4 which is much better, and my blood pressure is perfect. I agree with you on all the side effects, they do lessen with time and you also learn to effectively manage them. After 2 months I no longer had to take nausea medication. Still dealing with the constipation, Mag07 is great to get rid of that. My stomach has shrank, and I no longer need to eat large portions to feel full. So it’s important to eat healthy food when on a GLP1! Low fat is important though, otherwise you end up getting massive heartburn because the GLP-1 slows down your digestive system. I have to take heartburn medication every day.
What are some low fats to eat. My goal is to get my A1C down and to lose the stubborn stomach fat. So I know my Dr. wants me to be down about 20 to 30pds. I am still taking metformin, drinking more water and my dosage of ozempic is 0.25. My appetite has started to decrease. I'm experiential a little nauseau.
NO! Didn't you hear the doctor say high fat? Your body, organs and brain NEED a certain amount of fat. So, it's a high fat/high protein/low carb diet that works.
This helped me so much I recently was prescribed wegovy, and referred to a dietitian and plan to meat with my Pc Dr monthly, the insight on what I can fo to change my life style puts aside my fears . Thank you so very much !! Also I enjoyed the covid comment ❤
Great video Dr! How do you feel about long term use as a maintenance program. One of my main reasons for using this medication is the way it works in my brain. It quiets that addictive food thoughts. They were just terrible. I feel so much relief not having that in my thoughts all day every day. It's a game changer. I finally feel like a "normal" person. I've changed my diet to exactly what you suggest. But I've always been able to do that, it's just the food noise would usually win in the end. I've even had VSG surgery. It worked great for about 7 months. Then one thing triggered the addictive brain and welp, I'm back to 400 pounds. This medicine is changing my life for the better. 67 pounds down. Still have a ways to go before I can move more easily but I'm getting there. I guess I got sidetracked from my original question. Long term use. I plan on staying on once I hit reasonable healthy weight. But at very low dose every 10-14 days as needed. Just to keep that noise at bay. Thank you for all the great information you have. I wish other doctors would get on board and learn how wonderful this medication is not just for helping with weightloss but for so many other ailments. 😊
You can stay on it maintenance. I suggest getting it from a compounding pharmacy that makes the peptide semaglutide. I have multiple patients on it but I am very selective with who I put on it. I agree that they are not monotherapy. I stress protein prioritization and weight lifting for my patients.
@@Alchemicalanesthesia oh that's what I use compound tirzepatide and it's great! I love being able to regulate my dosing. I am with a great telemed group. I asked my previous cardiologist about going on mounjaro and he brushed it off, saying I would not see a significant loss. OK. So I went on my own and did compound. I just saw a new cardiologist. She was happy with the weightloss. I told her what I was doing, she had no idea! I was so angry. Like what? I had to school her on the benefits for cardiac patients. I told her she should really go and research the benefits. Then she told me she was on the board or something for obesity in my hospital! Lol ok! She just told me to keep doing what I was doing. Hopefully when I see her next I'll be down 100 pounds & I hope she learns about these amazing glp1's.
I was on Saxenda. Lost 15 kg in 3 months and stop using it as it was very expensive. Gain 20 kg in 4 moths. Now i have Mounjaro in my fridge, tomorrow is my firs dosage for one week. This video came like a blessing as my dr didn’t told me anything, just try this new medicine approved for weight loss. So thanks will follow your suggestions
He’s spot on! I am slowly getting off MJ after a year because I have met all my goals, we’ll see how it, but I did very well because I was able to go carnivore and now slowly adding in a few carbs as I stabilize. Do it all!!
I love the openness with which he brings treating obesity to the table. It’s very rare to find healthcare professionals talk about ozempic and type 1 diabetes in one breath. I’d like more information on that correlation either way glycogen.
My brother passed away from a shooting a couple years ago, and I had panic attacks so they put me on seroquel. I was in great shape with a great workout routing before that happened. On seroquel I gained 20 pounds, and also felt so fatigued the whole time. Which made me even more depressed. I got off of it about a year ago but it’s been hard to lose the weight even with working out and healthy eating. I am taking semeglatude and I think it’s helping me but I think I’ll be able to keep it off after I’m done with it
Great info as usual. WHat about the dysregulation of the vagus nerve? Have you come across any issues related to that? Apparently the injected GLP1's are constantly causing stimulation and this may lead to the gastroparesis? Not to bombard you but have you noticed skin sensitivity after administration of tirzepatide in your practice? Reports of the skin on the trunk, legs and arms becoming painful to touch but the skin on exam is fine?
Dr. Cywes, I am a long time T2D and mostly carnivore for many years. I have been on tirzepatide for 2 months and have developed a meat aversion. Hope eggs and dairy are good enough for a while.
I’m glad you set boundaries in your practice…my doctor over here in the US tried to push ozempic on me to the point I was taken a back… I’m 5’7” 152 pounds…. And I have colitis and I’m on the toilet all day as it is….i swear they get kick backs from pill pushing $$$ Be your own advocate!!
May I ask why your doctor said you should take it? Obviously not for obesity! My doctor said that most insurance companies are not covering it except for type 2 diabetes. They are losing too much money so they won’t cover it even for fatty liver disease or prediabetes. (Edit: I’m in Tennessee and have Blue Cross Blue Shield, a very good plan, and it only pays for Ozempic for type 2 diabetics, won’t pay ANY for Mounjaro)
Wow he was trying to get you to use it at 152 pounds? That's crazy. But I must say, I am not diagnosed with colitis or ibs but I was on the toilet up to 6 times a day with diarrhea, for over 30 years! It's just so tiring. My mom always said I should be so skinny because I go to the bathroom like people did in the 70's 80's by taking laxatives to lose weight. But I gain weight instead of losing weight. I use compound tirzepatide. Let's just say my diarrhea days are very few and in between. It's so nice to not to have to worry about that. Could your Dr have been thinking maybe it would help with your colitis? Like you said your your own advocate, so happy you stuck to your guns. But maybe read up on how the meds effect people with colitis. Best of luck. 😘
@@KTplease sure! My A1c was 5.8… so technically according to the range I am pre-diabetic … he assumed if I could lose a few more pounds it could fix all that … makes me mad.
@@sherrilynn6222 that’s why I was so confused, I’ve been his patient for 35 years and he knows my digestive issues, or at least I assumed he did ! I think he was just fixated on my A1c. I’m thrilled you found relief with your diarrhea!! It is extremely exhausting and complicated to live with.
I understand carnivore and keto inside out. I spend enormous amounts of money on incredibly good quality Food. but I have pretty bad ADHD and I find it very hard to not fall off the wagon quite frequently. I am going to try one of the new weight loss drugs because life is too short and I want that drug to help me be able to stick to a low-carb ketavore type diet.
Well we’re just talking so I hope nobody takes this wrong. But I think too much emphasis is on intermittent fasting. What I mean is I think it’s important to fast, but the reason behind it is it gives your body a chance to go in diagnostic mode and heal with no physiological changes to deal with. Losing weight is a side product of it. But to me, the most important is learning to eat better and portion size.
Using mounjaro for 6 months now lost 30 kilos from 130 and can not stress enough how this doctor is correct. With a low carb high protein and fat diet i dont have any side effects i gained mobility take stairs walk to work and i feel great! I also take micronutrition suplement and vitamins. Im a type 2 diabetic and myhb1c is 6,0 now!
I start this medication next week. I'm already doing intermittent fasting without an issue. And I'm trying to do keto diet. I'm hoping the medication will give me the little crutch. I need to help me break the cravings and stick to a good diet. I do not want to be on this crap forever. And I am very well aware that if I go back to bad eating habits, I will gain all the way back. So I hope I'm not fooling myself, but I hope this gives a little extra nudge I need so that I can stay with good eating habits long enough to really truly make them a lifestyle change. I am not diabetic, but I know I'm gonna be if I don't do something about my weight. I am 100 pounds overweight.
I lost 100lbs. You can do it! I went carnivore after being keto and have dropped meds like crazy. This video is worth its weight in gold! I did 99% of what he describes but I had to figure it out myself.
I love the idea of using GLP-1 agonists as the pharmaceutical equivalent of bridge drinks. Let’s hope Ozempic, Monjauro and other like-minded drugs are used (& prescribed!) wisely… 🤔
This makes so much sense but I went to my GP to tell her I was starting this and asked for support. The response was “oh we know you’re on it” and that’s it. I’m in Scotland and don’t know ow where to access the kind of support you talk about here. If anyone does can they share please but I’m off to research
Wow. Congratulations that's awesome! 👍🏼😘
That is awesome congrats you r doing a good job
Very inspiring!! God bless you on the rest of your journey. And thank you for sharing this.
As a nurse, you are a very refreshing physician to learn from & a nice "break from the norm" of what I hear day-to-day. Thank you for the education and the help that you are giving to the healthcare community.
I worked with him for years and he's the best!
@@english26261 the best! He did my lapband procedure many years ago!
What mg was you on. How long did it take you to loose?
@@evawolfe6375 I was on 5.0 and lost an average of 2 pounds per week.
Insulin is created by the human body. We do not create semaglutide or tirzepatide in our bodies. That is the difference
I know many people who are Overweight but don't have Diabetes
Gotta Love and eat Sugar to become a diabetic (Type2)
Same with me, I developed liver problems after being on Birth control for 17 years😢
I had lost 75 lbs with Intermittent Fasting.
Are you single?
I did Keto and Intermittent Fasting for a year and lost 4lb in the first month and stopped. So not everybody is the same.
Wow amazing , I wish you made a video about the process!🙏🏻
Wow Dr. Cywes ! You did my lap band many years ago. Good to see you 😊
Yup…Two months ago I weighed 254 lbs. I started Mounjaro along with a strict Keto life style. Today 5/24/24 I weigh 209 lbs. on my way to 190 lb. Weight goal! The good carb doc knows his stuff!
Good job.

So it’s ok to eat fat/be keto on this ? Part of me
Thinks the fat helps keep you satiated and you eat less if it since calorie dense but then I heard it may. Upset stomach taking this peptide/drug?

What MGs were you on for your diabetes???
Awesome video and information! I am on Mounjaro and it has changed my life. I was struggling to lose weight and learning to control my blood sugar. Now I feel more confident and has learned so much. My a1c is down and I am losing weight. I feel better and taking vitamins and supplements as suggested. Sippy sippy! Always has water in reach!
Same, I’ve lost 30 lbs on morjourno. My A12 has dropped significantly as well. It absolutely changed my RELATIONSHIP with food.
But what about all the crazy side effects people are getting
What mg. was you on?
Will you keep taking the med or try to wean off it?
The GLP1 It’s a tool and agree you need to follow a plan with a doctor and nutritionist. I lost 26lbs and just found your channel! Hope to learn more.
This was a phenomenal video, thank you!!
Thanks Doctor! These are very important points to remember. I a trying to lose weight and zi realized total lifestyle change is needed.
Great content. Just about to start with Mounjaro and appreciate these facts and truths for the road ahead. Cheers Doc. 👍🇬🇧

It cost 1100 in the US
Wow!!!! How ridiculous is that!!!
Same here. I am in Dubai and just paid around 500 USD ( when converted) for 4 pens, 5 mg.
Wow! You are so lucky. I am on Medicare in the U.S. and Mounjaro costs around $1200 per month here...plus, there is a MAJOR shortage of it.
This was me...lost a little gained a lot...then ...back in March I decided to go keto..... Im drastically improved... down 70lbs a1c blood pressure...way better
Congratulations
Thank you so much for this information. There are so many people out there who believe that the medication alone is gonna solve the weight problems. It was very informative!
May I humbly suggest that this doctor enroll his patients in the Summer Ozempics!
Please be sure of your dosage. 5mg is twice the dose for weight loss and 10 times the dose for diabetes.
@@petercyr3508that’s not true 5mg is a lower dose Mounjaro doses goes up to 15mg it’s different to ozempic

I am so glad I watched this. I have done both keto and carnivore and know that they work. I just started Zepbound yesterday. I was told to eat protein and complex carbs to avoid any sickness so I was terrified to try and eat ketovore. This made me feel so much better knowing that I certainly can.
I’ve been Ketovore/Carnivore. I feel great!
Thank you so much for sharing. I am so happy!! Now I know what I will be doing. Thank you! 💜

Ozempic isn’t supposed to be prescribed to type 1 diabetics, though.
You hit the nail on the head. I got the prescription yesterday and my visit lasted like 15-20 minutes. Thank you for your video 🙏
TYA!
He explains it all in this video.@@JudyEllington
Hello Mary..good for you taking exasperating what works for you..
Might try goat cream and see if you avoid the heart burn. Might just be am A1 vs A2 thing.
Better to set up a visit w us
I can only tolerate ULTRA pasteurized 1/2 1/2 in coffee without heartburn.

This medicine helped me quit drinking alcohol
WOW.. learned more from this than from my DR.
When my husband started on them he just followed my lead and he’s doing better than me 😆
Men always do better, lol they suck for that reason 😜
Thank you so much for this video! It was mentioned in a Facebook group for Saxenda users (that's how I found you). There is so much valuable information here.

Thank you so much for this, I have been on these meds for over a year and no other support. I just went to my annual and asked for dietician referral so I can better work on my nutrition.
I totally agree with you on it has to be a lifestyle change to keep the weight off.
Thank you!!

Wow I learnt so much from this one video. You are such an amazing doctor.
This information will change my husband’s approach towards taking munjaro. Wow we needed this information very much.
Thank you Dr Cywes, very informative!!
It's amazing, how doctors suggest fighting hormones and antibiotics in food with... diet and physical activities....

What mg was you on?

It’s the carbs sadly.
This is good im on monjaro need to know this thanks doc.
Are you concerned about gastroparesis?
I’m on Mounjaro this is my second month I’m only on 2.5g though… what dosage were you on?
FANTASTIC VIDEO! This was really informative and for me, an affirmation of what I have been implementing into my life changes!

Agreed! The mental changes are huge! My addictive thoughts are so much less❤️
Fantastic helpful analysis. Just starting on mounjaro today. Will follow this advice.
Thanks. Just started. My doctor sounds like you.
Appreciate the info on how to support the use of a GLP-1.
I am taking semeglatude and I think it’s helping me but I think I’ll be able to keep it off after I’m done with it
That is a hardcore drug I was also on it but for depression
Best information I heard thats is so educational as well wow. All overall health that goes with it is very important. ❤ Thank you!!
Lmao I spit my water @ the state of Florida doesnt have Covid lol. thanks!
I'm a native Floridian now living in Texas we don't have it here either lol
It's true. Only get covid in Illinois😂 @carbaddictionmom
Hate to break it to you but the Big C is everywhere🤦🏻♀️Florida and Texas are virtual breeding grounds.
Such a stupid statement for a Dr to make. Right after he promotes his product? I Seriously?
I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND FOUND THE STATEMENT EXTREMELY IGNORANT. ITS HARD TO EVEN LISTEN TO HIM SPEAK N TRUST WHAT HE SAYS. ...PATHETIC COMMENT!
Appreciate the video .. would like to see more to help us while using this medication
Dr. Cywes, I am a long time T2D and mostly carnivore for many years. I have been on tirzepatide for 2 months and have developed a meat aversion. Hope eggs and dairy are good enough for a while.
You’re so right. Thankyou. London.
Hi Lou…good for you knowing what works for you…🫵
I understand carnivore and keto inside out.
So much great info in this video! Thank you so much!
FYI: American pronunciation of Controversy - con tro versey. I like the way you pronounce it better.
Isn't it controvercity🤔
@@pseudopsychonym Controvercity isn't a word.
American is accent on first syllable, English is accent on second syllable
Using mounjaro for 6 months now lost 30 kilos from 130 and can not stress enough how this doctor is correct. With a low carb high protein and fat diet i dont have any side effects i gained mobility take stairs walk to work and i feel great! I also take micronutrition suplement and vitamins. Im a type 2 diabetic and myhb1c is 6,0 now!

(They're on Telegrams & Instagrams?..
@PHILLSMYCO2, is the handle?.
Profound! You must change your habits if you want this medication to work! Cannot wait to see Oprah in 3 years!!!!
Oprah is addicted to bread
Exactly.. wisely
This makes so much sense but I went to my GP to tell her I was starting this and asked for support. The response was “oh we know you’re on it” and that’s it. I’m in Scotland and don’t know ow where to access the kind of support you talk about here. If anyone does can they share please but I’m off to research
