I bought an LTL 9000 in 84 with the 400 Cat and 13 sp. Great looking truck with a nice interior but a small bunk. You are right about the ride quality, even with air ride they will beat your kidneys until you think you are going to start pissing blood.
Congrats on owning a real truck!!! That is a Ford LTL 9000 and I believe that is a 425 Cat. I love that dash set up. You can see everything easily. The new way suspension is a bone shaker but when it’s loaded it will ride super smooth. I love the ford Louisville line. I would take one in a heartbeat over any peterbilts or kenworths any day. Have fun with that bad boy!
Love your channel so much. Can you please make cold starts of everything you have and show us what you do to get them started with this view? would love to see more in detail what you do with the accelerator pedal in them, too
Old School trucks from back in the day were such bad ass, unfortunately i've only driven trucks no older than 1995. By the time i got my CDL in 2006 lot of companies hardly used the old school beauties
Minty truck. I used to drive an 89 tri-axle w/a 425 and an 8 spd. Ford cabs are cold in Northern Ontario winters. I used to wear those yellow foam ear plugs in it. Not much better sound than 1450 pulling hard up a hill for 3~4 minutes in 5th.
You were barely or not even alive when those things were made. Weird. I was alive and doing dealer prep on those things when they were delivered. Serious class 8 Ford dealers got to know those Louisville assembly workers by name. Their work time was not typical car assembly line stuff. Everything coming down the line was different. Sometimes things to do and sometimes not. I have serious respect for the L line of Ford trucks.
Looks like a possible 400 HP, don't have Jakes on it. Make sure you calibrate the dip stick at first oil change. With these sideways Ford's, you can over fill the oil pan and the rods will dip in the oil.
Nice stuff bro, my cousin has a LTL9000 dump truck but his is a big cam 400, I did a video of it on my channel but cant go wrong with a 3406B, love those motors!
@@charliesmotorsports6301 Possible. Maybe too much air pressure in bags, or just the fact that it's an old truck with lots of rattles, and seems rougher than it is.

I bought a new one in '86 which tells my age...great truck.
@@kennethrigby3983 that’s awesome do you still have it
I enjoyed the the video my grandfather had one in the early 90s, to bad about the 2023 Ford bronco commercial in the middle of your video
That’s cool thanks for watching sorry about the bronco add

That old furd is awesome 👌
Take care of that baby they don’t make it like that anymore. Good and reliable truck
Roughest truck you ever drove? That is an LTL 9000, the L9000 I drove did not have airbags, it had leaf springs

You ought to see the one I bought back in July.
Ps go over that truck front to back it will treat you right. Very common for them to have a 400 cat with a 13 speed no jake

Putting air ride under the cab is no big deal and will smooth that truck right out
That would be nice
Lousiville was available with the 3406 as an option
I have a single axle Sterling spring ride. Bobtail it will send you through the roof if you’re not strapped in
That would be a horrible ride
That’s one cool cat bro
Congratulations 👍🏻
Thanks a lot
And what's your plans for the trucks use ?
I sure wish I could find me one
New Way always rode good in the trucks I drove. Didn't handle well though, kinda squirmy. We called it "New Sway"
Maybe the bushings in my suspension was stuck

Let some air out of the air bags and it will ride better there too high
