    I have a Fox for mtb and Smith for road.
    I never put a price on my head when it comes to buying a helmet. Don’t wanna wear one riding the bus for the rest of my life. Cycling helmet is the most important investment in cycling. More than a 15k dollar super bike

    Great, thank you for the insight and review ! I am shopping for a new road / aero-road helmet and have already returned 2 high-end models from other brands due in part to fit, but more so, due to sweat (dripping on eyewear) and wind-noise. The wind-noise above 20 mph is what really bothers me, and I'm a bit surprised there aren't more complaints. ( heard about "wind blox" and may try)
    I have read that this helmet does a good job of directing sweat, but could you say how the the wind noise compares to other similar helmets?

    weight is a concern for me as a climber, should i go for the g1 or the vento

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello I’m sorry I missed your question. The G1 is lighter but I caution you about being a weight weenie since aero masters ALL the time and weight only matters above 8% grades. You have to ride to and from the climb and you have to ride down the descent so aero matters more.
      However, a different way to think about it is the G1 offers more ventilation. Depending on where you live your climate may dictate which helmet you choose. Over heating will negatively impact your performance more than a few less grams ( G1) or the hopes of aero benefits (Vento)

  • @paulflory3532
    @paulflory3532 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the very thoughtful review.
    Just got a Vento in L and it seems to fit even better than the G1 MIPS I have been using for the past 6 months. The G1 is so comfy I don't notice it at all while riding, which is the goal. Weight for Vento L is 309g, my L G1 MIPS weighs 279g.
    FYI, I found that I can adjust the ScrollSys belt with just one hand by hooking my thumb under the lower edge of the helmet. Works better for tightening than loosening, but loosening can be done if the straps are snug.
    Sorry, disagree about aero helping all the time. So many conditions reduce aero benefit: lower speeds (aero drag goes as square of speed), tailwinds, turbulent wind conditions, in a peloton or paceline. And aero usually adds at least some weight. Light weight never harms (assuming strength is not sacrificed!), and at the rim of a wheel gives the added bonus of reduced rotational inertia.
    As for tire rolling resistance, keep in mind that rolling resistance, aero drag, and weight are all small effects and are interrelated. If one goes to a 32mm tire seeking lower RR, tire weight will increase substantially. And frontal area (aero drag is proportional to frontal area) increases (28% for 32mm vs 25mm tires!).

      depends on the model but in general, kask fits rounder and sits significantly lower on the head. lazer fits more oval and sits a little higher. depending on the shape of your egg, one may fit better than the other.

    Good looking helmet. Call me skeptical or cynical or jaded, though. It wouldn't surprise me if MIPS and all its' variants were just a scam to sell more helmets. I'd be happy to do without all that and see these helmets selling at half the price.

    It's currently ranked 82 out of 155 helmets in the Virginia Tech crash test list. That's like in the lower end of the 3 star category while the new Spez Evade 3 is ranked 16. Kineticore is just way less safer than proven ol MIPS. Avoid this overpriced Lazer.

      The Vento is a 5 star rated helmet under Virginia Tech helmet tests. See text from their website with link provided.

      The Lazer Vento KinetiCore earned a 5 star rating. Its STAR value score of 13.70 ranked #82 of 155 helmets tested.
      This helmet cost $280 at the time of testing. Below is a plot comparing this helmet's cost to all others included in these ratings.

      The plot below compares this helmet's performance to the average 5 star-rated helmet at the 2 impact severities. Lower values for the score contribution indicate better performance. @@SeeYouUpTheRoad Do you know that even Virginia Tech said to not focus on the star rating but the scoring itself? The star scoring is very misleading and imo industry biased. Vento ranked 82 out of 155 helmets means it's at the worse half of all the helmets tested. In all other metrics that would be rated 3 stars. 5 stars is a joke. Now look at the actual data themselves: G1 MIPS 9.23 vs Vento 13.7 which means the Vento gives 48.5% more impact to the head compared to the G1. Almost 50% worse isn't small by any metrics when you consider the worst road helmet they ever tested is a 3 star 19.22 which is 108% more impact than the G1.

      @@thebespokecyclist3624 you’re probably going to hate me for this but… I really don’t give a hoot about a helmet’s safety rating. I’ve never paid any attention to it as part of my buying decision. Until today when you made your comment about the VT results I had never even been to their website. If I like the way the helmet looks and I like the way it fits that’s all that’s ever mattered to me. As a side note or rant, I definitely would never buy a Specialized helmet just because it had a higher safety rating. Their marketing is really good though not to mention how they just give their stuff away to teams of all levels from pro to the amateur club if 10 people with their DEEP discounts. If you wish to talk about overprice Spesh is the worst.
      All helmets have to pass a minimum standard to be sold in the U.S. that’s good enough for me. I’m sorry but this discussion seems pointless to me.
