- First off, I'm sorry for the longer video. I tried to capture a lot of footage on how this thing works but when it came down to editing there really was no good way to put this footage together. There is a good bit of muted time lapse and me standing around trying to figure out the best way to not only film but also to get the tree lifted and back to the mill area.
This was the first adventure out of the gate with this beast and there is certainly more to come. Thanks for hanging in there guys, I appreciate it!
Well hey sometimes it works out. Sure it inconvenienced your Saturday plan, but still a huge win to not find out your spare wouldn't fit when you need it on the trailer, and make sure a replacement spare that fits, makes it on your to do list. I have woods in Maryland and right now with more fallen trees then I need for firewood. Every five years or so I look into getting some sort of mill and then don't remembering things like I'm not a wood worker, I have poor track record of dealing with things like storing and drying wood pieces properly, lack of power equiptment tractor, ATV ect. That's an awesome tool you've built.
Yeah, a new spare with the correct bolt pattern is on the list for sure.
Some corner posts for chain link fence posts, three or four .in the tool kit could help in times like these. I once had to move, do a three point turn with a 9 ton shipping container. I cut telephone pole sized rollers, some cheap harbor freight bottle jacks, some pulleys and rope with two pick up trucks, Egyptian style. In the end I was more proud of the manuver then degrees from colleges.
Its funny looking back at some of the things we can accomplish when we put our minds in to it!
Awesome little arch :) I have seen a few different arches moving big trees, and they were not as heavy built as yours so I don't think you have to worry about breaking yours :) I need to make something like that for my winter log hauling sled,

I don't have dimensions written down but it really couldn't be much easier to put together. Just decide what length log you will carry most and make your main beam maybe a foot longer and go from there. i.e. I want the ability to carry a 12 foot log so my main beam is about 78 inches. Also your max width. My mill can cut up to a 30 inch log (barely) so I set my width about 32 inches. I used graph paper and just sketched it out. I used 1/4" thick 3" square tubing for the primary structure and pieced everything else together with trailer parts from tractor supply. Thanks for stopping by.
Dont sit the logs in gravel. Use the first cut slabs to build a ground level log deck. Result is no gravel in the logs.

You really need to invest in a 4,000+ lb. winch and bracket for the front of your ATV; a $150.00 Log Skidding Cone (see Amazon) would also go a long way to keeping your logs from digging into the ground when winching them.
A winch would be nice but right now I am still able to make things happen. I'll enjoy the hard work as long as I can. Thanks for watching.

I agree, some wedges? Like wheel chocks. (speaking as someone who has yet to fully recover from a homesteading accident in July of 2020. Something stupid can easily derail your plans and even though I don't know you, I'd still hate to hear you got crushed.)
