Cabin 2 - Time to get back on the roof!
In this video I catch everyone up as to the progress that has been made since our last meeting. This included a lot of facia and shadow boards along the roofline as well as prepping the roof for metal. I also managed to get the back side of the cabin covered and left off with the front TBD.

Well I finally had the lumber on hand that I needed to move on with the porch framing.
Cabin 2 - Porch Framing and some holes in Cabin 3
มุมมอง 5652 หลายเดือนก่อน
As I was splicing all of this coverage together I realized that I did quite a bit of talking during this video...sorry about that. The coverage during this video are finishing up the exterior sheathing and starting to frame out the porch for Cabin 2. Once I got that completed I moved onto putting some of the holes in Cabin 3 where my A/C, bath and plumbing vent would come through the wall.
Cabin 2 - Sheathing, Insulation and more sheathing...
มุมมอง 1.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I consolidated a few days of footage into one video since I was tired of having to try and film in between downpours. Cabins 1 and 3 and rockin right along and really only a few tweeks and they should be pretty close to getting the finishing touches. Cabin 2 on the other hand needs to do some catching up and this video shows some of that progress.
Another step in the right direction!

In this video I discuss the day long trip to Georgia to pick up our water tank as well as other small projects that are getting chipped off as the days of work continue. Cabin 1 is coming along nicely.
Rustic appeal with oak flooring and steel cut nails
มุมมอง 4494 หลายเดือนก่อน
It took a few days to prep for the floor install but things finally got underway and I couldn't be happier with the results. Below is a link to the company that I sourced the cut nails from. tremontnail.com/tremont-steel-cut-nails/flooring-nails.html
#milling Ep. 17 - Maxing out the Norwood LM30
มุมมอง 30K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally got the last timber up on the mill and it turned out to be a doozy. Lots of lumber and plenty of effort went into the last log for January 2024.
#milling Ep. 16 - Milling my way through some large timbers
มุมมอง 5274 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just a quick video as I am working my way through those trees that were felled in the last video. It has been several days of snow, rain and freezing temperatures so being able to get out and actually record some of this was a challenge.
Dropping trees and moving timbers

This was a recap of the week that was filled with poor weather and plenty of action around the homestead.
Cabin 2 - Back at it and chaos ensues
มุมมอง 3655 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally got back into the swing of things and managed to get some siding up on Cabin 2. I had to get a little crafty by using a ratchet strap to straighten some of the boards out.

This video is just a quick walk around the property with me talking about what we have been up to for the past 3 months and where we are going with the project in the coming weeks.
Cabin 2 - Ridge board and rafters
มุมมอง 2647 หลายเดือนก่อน
After a rather frustrating week of waiting on supplies things finally started to get off the ground. This episode has me installing the rafter hangers, placing the ridge board and installing the rafters.
Cabin 2 - Angle braces and nailers
มุมมอง 2857 หลายเดือนก่อน
It was a fairly productive day and I accomplished everything on the to-do list. Angle braces were first on the list and most of them were cut from some of the more twisted boards I had on hand.
Cabin 2 - And away we go...
มุมมอง 4417 หลายเดือนก่อน
Cabin 2 has begun with a bang and a bit of cold weather. I wanted to get the frame up and start pecking away on Cabin 2 and it really wasn't an issue.
Cabin 3 - Making room for the door
มุมมอง 1328 หลายเดือนก่อน
I finally get around to cutting that pesky 4x4 above the door that is going to give me my 78 inch opening for my front door. Things go better than expected.

How long does it take to mix 4- 80lb bags????
I would say about 10 minutes. My process kind of went like this: After the first batch was mixed, I would dump it into a concrete mixing tub so I could drag the concrete over to the hole. Before I dragged it over to the hole I would start another batch in the mixer. That way while I am shoveling/dumping the concrete into the hole I already have another batch mixing...So, after the concrete has been put in the hole and the next batch is mixing, I take the time to fill the next bucket of water and prep for the next batch. Once it starts you kinda get in a rhythm. Thanks for watching!
You are doing a great job!!
Talk talk talk but hardly ever show actual work🙄
This is dumb you didn’t even show 1 footer pour- You talk but never actually show anything in action
amazing how much material goes into such a small detail like that arch
You're telling me! I was glad to see that prices have finally returned to normal when I went to my supplier and grab all of those sheets of Zip and CDX. Have a great weekend!
Well Done!
Coming along nicely!! That is a mighty fine color :)
It's so amazing to see the progress. Can't wait to see it done and people in there having fun.
You and me both brother!!! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods! S/F
I was thinking you might try the 'back up fast and hit the brakes' method to get the tank off 😁🤣 Good progress!
I'm almost sorry I didn't think of that at the time. Thanks!!
That's a big one!!
Coming along nicely! Keep up the good (hard) work :)
Come together good for you , beautiful looking on cabin #1 .
Thanks 👍
They look like horseshoe nails.
Yes, very similar. Thanks for hangin out.
It is sad that such an old tree was cut down
Hang in there...Thanks for watching.
Great Job!!
I saw a guy with a Woodlands Mills bandsaw put PVC pipe taller than his log stops over the stops to give him a taller surface for turning large logs. He indicated that it helped him a lot. Might give that a try for those big logs. Glad you are back at work on the cabins. Enjoying watching your progress.
I've seen those extensions in action and they look like a great idea. I'm sure they would have helped me out. Thanks for hangin out!!
Your better just cut below the bark after the first cut . Save a lot on bandsaw blade keep them out the bark wood 🪵. Great video
Yeah that bark is tough on blades for sure. Thanks for watching!
You'll sleep well tonight, after that workout.
Pretty sure I passed out on the couch that night. Thanks for watching!!
Totally amazing.
Thanks for watching!!
i see ya forgot the lube on the bunks trick , those big logs are a helluva workout for a man and the mill
I'm glad I don't wrestle with those big ones very often! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for watching!
No problem great video buddy . 😊
Thanks for hanging out!
Your log trailer should have swivel hitch on it . Why went the trailer roll over it don’t take you and ATV over together. Remember THINK 🤔 SAFETY. GREAT VIDEO BUDDY . 😊 I’m not pick on you , just looking after your health buddy . Your welcome great videos your put out buddy . 😊
I appreciate you sticking around.
Drop that tree out where your standing this the second tree. Alway drop your tree 🌲 on the side off the hill . 😊 remember THINK 🤔 SAFETY and always put SAFETY FIRST . 😊
I did my best. I'll work on the safety thing...Thanks!
We had rain last night in the 709 . We still got a bare ground . 20 to 30 mile wind 🌬 good weather for dry clothes on clothesline buddy . 😊
Stay warm up there.
Disconnect the arch and move the debris pile. Back up the hill, reconnect and take the log down to the road and bring the arch up by road.
The last thing I want to do is move those debris piles. UGH Thanks for the input.
Can't you turn the log with a peavey?
I move them with my cant hook when I think it would help. I did quite a bit but it may not have made it onto the video.
I always like those camera shots down bound from a felling tree. Good guesstimate on safe distance for the camera. Should make some great lumber.
I was amazed it worked out as well as it did. I expect there will be some more of that in the near future. Thanks for waching.
this from a guy who drags logs flat on the ground for a 1/2 mile then has to spend hours debarking them with a double bit axe , lol
YES!!! Hard times make hard men! Thanks for hanging in there with me.
couple pulleys and a 100' of cable wouldn't hurt either
I'm hoping that the winch on the four wheeler holds out for the season...It saved my but this week for sure.
yup, man definately needs a tractor
It sure would help!
Hey that cabin is really taking shape. Looking really good. Thanks for sharing your updates.
Thanks I appreciate it. Its been nice getting back into the swing of things.
a board jack, used for deck laying would also work, and is alot safer than that ratchet strap... Its all fun and games till you take that buckle in the face... Keep up the hard work!
I try not stress the strap to much, but your right, strap to the face might leave a mark. Thanks for watching.
Defiantly a major upgrade in the video only 4 guys in the entire thirty minute video keep it up
Thanks... Hopefully things will keep getting better.
Very nice.
Thanks.
It's absolutely crazy how busy y'all have been. Like the Energizer Bunny, Just keep going and going!! The work in NJ is unbelievable!!! Hope you got a little rest while in Louisiana!!!!
Glad you and yours are well and back at your cabin builds. Good luck and I’m looking forward to see what you accomplish in 2024.
Thanks 👍 We are excited!!
Hope you're still recording, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!
We are still around but I have been working on some other projects (not cabin related) and taking care of some family business. We will be back in front of the camera soon. Thanks for stopping by.
Any idea how long it took for each mix? Trying to calculate how long it will take for 4 - 80lb bags at a time - looking at doing around 100 bags and trying to see if it makes sense to rent two mixers.
Once I had the consistency that I was looking for I would let it spin for about 5 minutes. It was thoroughly mixed and any additional chemical reaction with the mix would take place in the hole. There is no way I (solo) would be able to use two mixers unless I had another helper or two. There is just always something to do...filling water buckets, prepping next hole, prepping next bags. There is just a lot going on and if there is a minute or two to rest, I appreciated it. Thanks for taking the time to ask.
Nice arch! U got dimensions you could share. I'd like to make one of these!
I don't have dimensions written down but it really couldn't be much easier to put together. Just decide what length log you will carry most and make your main beam maybe a foot longer and go from there. i.e. I want the ability to carry a 12 foot log so my main beam is about 78 inches. Also your max width. My mill can cut up to a 30 inch log (barely) so I set my width about 32 inches. I used graph paper and just sketched it out. I used 1/4" thick 3" square tubing for the primary structure and pieced everything else together with trailer parts from tractor supply. Thanks for stopping by.
Good job… looking really good. It’s nice when everything falls right into place. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, I appreciate it!
looks good , i spent the day sawing 2x6x14' rafters , finally got enough to start my hay shed , lol
Thanks! Rafters drive me nuts...its just one of those things I struggle with every time. Are you going to record your build and post it?
nah , i'm an old fart , illiterate in the ways of electronic geegawwery , just a desk top , no cell phone tracking device and no wish to be famous . been in construction my whole life but always looking for a better way , lol@@LazyTCabins
Watched all your videos up to this point, doing great. Sence your 8ft. logs are giving you trouble., Move that bonk closer . 😊
I appreciate you hanging in there with me. Thanks!
I thought this would be a two-bedroom with the bath in the center back between them. You surprised me.
We still have cabins 4 and 5 to build...you never know! Thanks for taking the time.
Framing looks like it’s coming out nice. It’s nice when you can get accomplished what you set out for the day. Thanks for sharing
Thanks. These shorter days are forcing me to rethink some daily projects. Last thing I want to be doing is driving nails by flashlight.
Good job framing the cabin up. I do for sure understand a one man band. Sometime makes things just a little harder. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, I appreciate it.
looks good
Thanks!
is there a word that describes my ability to put shit in my way no matter which way i turn , lmao
You are reading my mind!!
i would have done the majority of the cutting with a circular saw then get a 1"chisel to finish it up , about the only place i would use the jigsaw is the ends
I thought about that but since the depth of cut on my circular saw would not cut through the beam I would have had to match up a cut from the opposite side. My primary objective was to have a clean, even cut across the entire beam and although slow, I was very pleased with the outcome. Thanks for checking in.
Little surprised to see you face-nailing the ceiling tongue-and-groove. Angle nailing through the tongue would eliminate all those nail/brad holes.
That material is so thin that it won't support that type of fastening. It would just bust the tongue to pieces and make it even more difficult to work with. Good eye though, thanks for watching.
