Nice simple build without having to have a billion dollars worth of tools. Good details, yet vidio moves along without And no annoying crap that passes for "music". Great job, thanks so much!
I like the build, seems perfect. Have you thought about building another arch section with a short tongue for the rear of the very long logs? It could be pushed over the back end , chained up and then the tongue pulled down and chained to the log. There are a few videos of this design concept. But if this works for your logs its perfect. Very nice build. I like the idea of no winch to mess with.
Thanks SO MUCH for such a detailed description of the build !!! Will you also be doing a like-kind video of the 'cradle' you built for the rear end of the log so you avoid tearing up the ground with skidding marks? This piece truly makes your log arch build the best I've seen !
@@tickcreekranch Nice clean and functional design. Darn near perfect with the following arch or dolly. I need this combo for my sawmill but maybe a tad beefier since I'll mostly be working with oak.
Awesome work! I like it. I can do a lot with that on my property and move some trees easily. Going to try it! TY for the measurements at the end and the finer points of the build.
Great video, I’m gonna have to build one of these for myself…Quick tip for drilling with your hole saws in metal…drill your pilot first without the hole saw on it, and you won’t jam the saw into the material causing the teeth to get fudged up.
Thank you for this video. I have ordered the wheels and spindles and hitch and I have a friend helping me source the steel. I will be building this very soon. I really appreciate the guidance.
You mentioned brass washers, you could use spring derlin liners, drill & cut to size. Need to purchase through a full fledge spring repair shop. Look up Dayton Parts "DEL-106", You can cut them in half, and the derlin is like a dry Teflon material. Thanks for sharing, and I hope this information helps . Note: derlin does not work well with oil, grease, or similar lubricants.
I think this is very necassary for anybody clearing forrested land I didnt know they had a name. And there is another one for just moving logs a short distance by hand as well I think slick as hell moving heavy logs. Live and learn
I like the trolley idea. Just a suggestion... move the chain closer to the center of the log will cause less strain on 4wheeler or sxs. Less weight and length dragging behind the arch. Nice build!
Yes we could pain but, I prefer to let it fully rust and then apply boiled linseed oil. Shiny rust! I like the look and simplicity. Applying a drying oil is a traditional way of preserving steel. 👍
Add a flap behind your helmet It help a lot when you are outside and when you have light coming in . I use a piece of old jeans and just tape it to the back top of my helmet And les it drop down a good 18 inch and 12 inch wide . Try it and let me know if you notice the difference .
I usually just go by the suggested feed and voltage settings under the door of the welder. You’ll get an ear for it when it’s right. Although flux core (FCAW) has a very different sound than metal inert gas (MIG). Make sure to push your weld and not pull to get penetration👍
Those wheels are nice, but I'm a cheapskate. I have winter tires for my car which I don't use in the summer, so I went down to the local pick-a-part wrecker's yard and bought a pair of front spindle/steering knuckles to match for $15 apiece (remember to gather and bring all the chassis attachment bolts and lug nuts - they're hard to come by if you forget them.) These are stronger than you can imagine! They're built like lives depend on them (cuz they do) and they include the bearings, lugs, bolts and nuts. The holes where the struts attach are beautiful for mounting to a steel cross member you can make. Saves me having to buy the smaller "trailer" wheels. A bit of imagination and you save a pile like this. Don't have winter wheels? Pick up some wheels with tires already on them at the scrap yard. They're usually dirt cheap and strong as anything. Want some strong fabrication steel? Leaf springs might do the trick. They weld nicely (although that affects their springy-ness.) Sadly, I haven't thought of how to cheapskate my way out of having to buy the heavy square steel pipe yet... Unavoidable cost, I suppose. Crying shame with the price of steel these days. Thanks for a great video! Really resourceful and quite inspiring. I know what I'm doing this weekend!
Awesome! As long as it gets the job done is all that matters. Check Facebook marketplace. I seem to find pretty good deals on old/rem steel there. Cheers
From one cheapskate to another - some of the best angle iorn steel available (I don’t think you could even purchase that quality - I think it may even be tempered) are old steel bed frames - people dump them all the time they are a great quality - I often weld angles together to make tubes. The scrapyard or Goodwill let those things go cheap.
Those axles and tires are plenty strong enough for that hauler. The 1360 pound weight rating for the tires was meant for going down the highway at 70 MPH, not through the fields at 5 MPH. They could easily handle double that weight. Most of the weight of the log is not resting on the hauler and its tires. It is resting on the ground. That is why I do not like those designs. I made mine with the bar extended in the back so the whole log is lifted up in the air because I was tired of making ruts across my gravel drive. Once balanced I can move a 2000 pound log by hand but I prefer a tractor for long distances.
Once again...these are skills all American families should have....great job!
Great build. Simple , to the point , functional , durable , doable.
awesome shots. Very well done vid
We appreciate it sir! You have some great content yourself👍
I like this basic mechanical system you did here rather that the boat winch type. Nice job. Tks for

Yes I am planning on building a dolly I have a couple ideas that I’m working on
Looks great. Now for a forecart and that big ol’ grey mare!
Right! She could pull this and the wheeler…sideways lol
This definetly nails down transporting logs with a utv. I'm sold on it, just not a DIYer with those skills. Thanks for posting.
Great skills, nice job, I'm inspired to help my cousin make this.

Thank you. Might want to consider bracing the bottoms of the legs to the front of the tongue if you’re going to use it hard. God speed my friend
Nice job!
Looks great
Well done, however, you need a couple same arches(one after another one) , it’s easer to fetch the logs from the forest, good luck!
Cool build. I am glad I found your channel.

Great point! We’re working on a design that allows more clearance to be able to do as you suggested among other features. Thanks Michael
You would get less lift then unless you increased height of arch.
Very good job

Quick question? All that rust on those pipes? Should you not sand remove and paint the whole thing for longevity??
Yes we could pain but, I prefer to let it fully rust and then apply boiled linseed oil. Shiny rust! I like the look and simplicity. Applying a drying oil is a traditional way of preserving steel. 👍

How did you get the wheels parallel with each other and paralell with the line of the center tube and tungue ?
I took a lot of measurements:) they probably aren’t perfect but good enough for slow speeds off road.
Realy nice
You know 😊 lincoln machine

If you don't mind me asking, what were your settings on your Lincoln. Beginner hobby welder try to learn more. Thank You.

@@tickcreekranch I noticed that you were pushing, I always heard that if has slag you drag. Supposed to sound like a steady sizzle of bacon.

Lincoln 180👍

Good day, is the draw bar mounted to the chassis at 90 degrees, if not, what degree.

Yes this is at 90*
Is there a list for the steel? Lengths?
The end of the video has an explanation and measurements of the build.
