@@matchpoint14 I think if they can't find a suitable victim and time is ticking, they fake it with an actor. It takes a lot of time to set up the locations, getting permission etc, so real if possible, fake it if needed.

They shot one of the episodes at the movie theater where I worked out in Atlanta. They even put him in my work shirt for the episode (I never saw that shirt again except on TV).
My dad is friends with him, super nice dude, we used to have his trailer that he did shows on, I have one of his first magic books, he sent my dad edible arrangements for his birthday, gave us free vip tickets to one of his shows, and lots more
It's not staged to the people he's pulling the trick on. It's staged for the TV audience, as there are many parts of the trick that are never seen at home because they take too long and would lengthen the segments too much (not to mention give the trick away to the TV audience.) For example, at one of his shoots in my town, after he explained something to one of his victims, he left the prop on the counter and took her to a separate part of the shop, giving his assistants time to refill it and replace what was in it. Then, when he walked her back in place, it was ready to go. It would have been counterproductive for the home audience to see that part, so they obviously edited it out.

That line of logic sounds good for people aware they are seeing magic being performed. Not a hidden context where they don’t realize they are seeing an illusion. Because they frequently don’t know what they just saw.

I actually saw the crew and their vehicle they were traveling in, at a Gas station along Interstate Highway 74 in East Central Illinois, as they were headed to Peoria for a Show ! Funny to think of these guys traveling around in a Bus ! 😂🤣😂
I've carried either a SAM (Society of American Magicians) or IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians) card for many years, so being an "insider", I can tell you that his performances are stellar. Not the "Stella" from Gone With the Wind, but exceptionally well performed. I don't know HOW he is able to keep from cracking up/losing composure during performances - he's really got it together, like a Border Collie working with sheep.
Love this show it's the only magic show I like!! All others do kinda the same style as In the way it's presented to the public. This is truly different,clever and addictive. I binge watch em. Only problem is that if it reaches a level of fame where everybody knows him eventually it will have to end .

@@kronosx7 camera tricks for us to view the episode and see how the person that is being tricked, sees it also. The person is really tricked. Explained in the video and makes sense. Have them in a position, make them believe, have a team to help out. But if they just showed you a full view of the scene, you'd see that team hand him something, or switch something the person put down. You'd see the trick. And that's not the point the point is for you to be as amazed as the person you're watching being tricked. And they, with skill and luck from the team, DON'T see the trick. The show isn't about tricking you, the veiwer. It's about tricking the people you're watching in the show.

You're thinking of it as they cut, stopped the people at their points, told them some lines and refreshed, then moved on with the next scene. That's not what happened. It's more like a music video, which I've had to edit for a friend. We had 3 cameras set up...this is life in a club..so the best analogy is like love concerts. We had 3 cameras. Recorded the whole interaction. Crowds, stage, etc. Afterwards, we edited it so that it cut to the crowd. The stage, a certain key point of the performance etc. And this was using plain recording cameras from back in 2006 as well as whatever the operating system on my then laptop was. No one stopped the performance to tell the crowd to act a certain way. It was their live performance at a local club. There are different ways to use cuts and edits.
List any two tricks that you think used the same "guest". There is really no need for Carbonaro to fake the guests just as a stage magician doesn't need a fake audience. The tricks are usually pretty simple, but the work because the "guests" don't know they are dealing with a magician.
