I think Jimmy was probably my favorite guitar player when I was a kid. I would spend hours listening to Led Zeppelin. It's great that Simone appreciates Jimmy's playing in his version.
The "flute" is a mellotron keyboard. It had the flute sound, strings mixed with brass, and a choral effect. It used to overheat easily. This was a time of fighting with your instrruments while playing, especially keyboards. I love that sound too. Goes great with weed.
Stairway to Heaven came out in 1971, this Madison Square Garden show was in 1973, it is great.. I think that was John Paul Jones on the Keyboards making the Flute sound.. ♠W.G.
No joke, in the last year I have listened to that solo over 100 times... and it still hits me right in the soul EVERY SINGLE TIME. This was 1973 from the concert film called “the song remains the same” filmed at Madison square garden in NYC. Led Zeppelin is widely regarded as the best rock group of all time, they had few peers then, and none at all now. Enjoyed the reaction, do more zeppelin and the views will follow 😉
Expensive to watch live though. I saw them one year after Madison in North West London @ Wembley Arena and the ticket price? 75 PENCE or Just under $1........:)
my dad was bonkers about zep, ive been a musician 35 years and this song is so epic in it's simplicity and complexity i'm still hooked on it. timeless.
Love Robert Plant's singing !!!......not unhappy about the open shirt either, not to mention the gorgeous hair, beautiful face and that awesome voice !!........wow !!
Seen Led Zeppelin 2 times, once in 1977 on April 1, 1977 Toronto, at the Maple Leaf Gardens, then on October 17 , 1980 in Montreal, at the Montreal Forum, and my best friend bought tickets for Robert Plant's solo tour on June 10, 1985 at The Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, BC, Canada!! Led Zeppelin are truly amazing live and so sexy!! Robert Plant during his solo tour was amazing as well and just as sexy , like fine wine he ages so well! Had front row tickets to all 3 shows!! Going to see Robert on Wednesday Aug 14, 2024 at 7:00 PM at The Queen Elizabeth Theatre Vancouver, BC Can't wait!!! ❤️🥰🤘
I have seen LED ZEPPELIN live in SAN FRANCISO back in the day. They are the best ROCK AND ROLL EVER. They started hard rock. Different times different eras. Real musicians know electronic b/s start up talent.
Madison Square Garden, NYC, 1973. This is the sound that us 70’s kids heard any day of the week, blasting out of car radios and our little AM mono-only transistor hand-helds, and packing our record collections at home. And then there was all the other killer music going on - the rise of various fusions of Jazz and Rock, the electrifying sound of Funk at its very best, and more. And those radio stations? The most popular weren’t stuck in one genre, but were called “Middle of the Road” (“MOR”) stations. Yes, they played pretty much every goddamned thing. After “Stairway” got done, you might hear The Jackson 5, or a cut from a terrifying Miles Davis electric album, or Petula Clark singing “Downtown”, or experience a whole Moody Blues LP, while the DJ went out for a smoke or a toke. We got everything thrown at us, whether we chose it or not. No wonder us 70’s kids aren’t impressed by the claustrophobic little hidey-holes music’s stuck in right now, and how, tellingly, nobody seems to know how to really play with each other anymore. Once you’ve lived in the world Music and musicians are capable of, there’s no going back. How do you get us stuffed back into a drum machine box, after we’ve heard Led Zeppelin? 🔥🌪️⚡️
This is the anthem of rock anthems. The bar that all other rock anthems are judged by. No other song fills me up and makes me feel complete the way Stairway to Heaven does. But all Zep is worthy. I had every album at one time and there was no bad zeppelin. They just evolved is all they did.
The amazing Led Zeppelin! GREAT performance and great song from Led Zeppelin lV. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarist ever! Creative innovative phenomenal! ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
Hi Julie, happy you made the difference of melatrons and flutes for her. I am a great admirer of John Paul Jone, enjoyed your other reactions. Take care, a kiss and greetings Emile! 🇳🇱🎸
I think a lot of people misunderstand the lyrics. JRR Tolkien, a contemporary of C.S. Lewis, writer of Hobbit, Lord of the Rings... also wrote a book called the silmarillion.. .which talked of the world before those stories... the Piper was God, and music was the power in which he created... the elves, looked to the west with longing, their birthplace.. a lady in the Silmarillion and all of the stories, Galadriel, fell in love with God... I actually believe the song came from this.... in the end,... the 'tune will come to you at last'... the realization there is a creator.... very inspiring song
Yeah that solo was something else. You lived that one, girl. He re-arranged and expanded it. The two guys playing behind him maybe knew 80% of what he was going to do.....so to go with him like they did on point all the way was something special too.
Kashmir is an absolute MASTERPIECE. In my opinion Kashmir is the greatest song/masterpiece ever put together from beginning to end every note played every note saying is absolute perfection
Great song...1971...Number 1 on FM RADIO for decades. The song offers two roads people might be on in life. Materialistic or a more Spiritual road. One can always get back on the right road. The metaphors and visionary aspects are abstract and difficult to interpret and each will have their own meaning.
You have entered into another dimension...no it’s not the twilight zone, it’s the rabbit hole of L.Z. This is the Madison Square Garden Concert 1973, I was 21 years old. It’s not a flute it’s JPJ on the key board. If you watch him play the keys, you will notice it’s him. Watch Jimi he plays the two necks at different times. The top is a 12 string, while the bottom is a six! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
OH Jimmie's Solo!?? That's Jus What Jimmy Does Girl🎸 Jimmy , like his Amazing Band Mates is a Legend!! The year here, I think was 73, or 1975! Can't remember for sure! We can Google it!
True, with flute and Jethro Tull. However, I am trying to think if Aqualung actually has a lot of flute in it. It probably does, but not as much as in other Tull songs.
1973 Madison Square Garden Led Zeppelin six nights I was at all six nights so the guitar solo that you saw I was right there unbelievable night nights I should say
Zeppelin was my fave and still is. I know like me you also like Elvis you should check out When Zeppelin met Elvis..they were great friends and you'll love the small little documentary of one of their meetings. Robert Plant Zeppelin's singer is so very funny on his "Elvis love "😅😉✌
You should watch the whole film concert. It was originally in movie theaters in the 70s ''' THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME MADISON SQUARE GARDEN LED ZEPPELIN''''..
1973 concert filmed at Madison square garden. This is a clip from the movie that Zepelín made called ,The Song Remains the Same. The movie is a complete concert with fantasy scenes with the band members. Robert plant, Song was The song Remains the Same/ The Rain. Jimmy Page was Dazed and Confused. Awsume guitar solo and bow work.John Paul Jones, No Quarter.amazing key boards and organs.and last but not least John Bonham with Moby Dick. Unbelievable drum solo. Then there is Rock and Roll.Black Dog, Since I’ve been loving you, Stairway to heaven, and Whole latta love. Every song will blow you away. This movie will forever change the way you think about Rock music. This is pure talent and masterfull musicianship unlike any band you have ever seen. You will understand why they are referred to as The Greatest Band of all time.
He is arguably the greatest guitar player of all time unbelievable all of his solos what a blessing to the ears to think that four people can make such a beautiful sound with no computers no help just themselves in their instruments absolutely magnificent
😂 Love the facial expressions! I have a guitar like played in this video. Great song!!! You get a chance, check out the Heart version of this song at Kennedy Center Honors. You’ll like it even more.
Look at you! I immediately liked and subscribed cuz I see no fakery in your eyes and can tell you sincerely and genuinely loved this! I just love it when somebody "gets it". Sweet!
The greatest band ever and ever will be and the greatest song in the history of rock and roll they are truly blessed by the mighty God Allah akhbar girl u are hooked forever now u should have never went down that rabbit's hole
I was fortunate enough to have seen them live several times in the 70's. In my opinion the greatest band of all time. I love watching a younger generation appreciate the music that I grew up on. You need to listen to "Dazed and Confused, and "No Quarter" by Zepplin. Blessings to all, be well and stay safe.
Thank for a true classic. If you like the flute, listen and watch another exceptional british band, Jethro Tull performing Thick As A Brick, Also recorded In Madison Square Garden. 1978 Greetings and a kiss Emile!
Best band ever i was 17 years old when they performed this. Jimmy Page one of the best guitar players in the world. That double neck is a 12 string on top and a 6 string on the bottom.
And if you notice! Jimmy Plays Both Necks of that Double necked Guitar 🎸!! The lower neck has 6 Strings, while the upper one has 12 Strings!! Now on the Album, someone, can't remember who, but someone is playing a Pan Flute! On this live version, IDK!! Might have been JPJ playing on synth.🎹
Yeah. That's how they did it in the 70s. All at the top if their craft. I can just see Robert smoking a cigarette and drinking a JD or something back stage before that 3 to 4 hr vocals performance.
That wasn't a flute, but (I think) a mollotron, a keyboard instrument made to emulate the sounds of orchestral instruments. Want to see a real flute? Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" is what you want. The frontman/flutist Ian Anderson is an amazing entertainer.
Not a flute - that part was done with a soprano recorder on the studio version of this song. But, in this live video, it was John Paul Jones on the mellotron approximating the bass, tenor and soprano recorders and bass guitar tracks he had recorded for the studio version. It's the only way John Paul Jones could play the four different instruments simultaneously at a live concert.
1st song I ever learned to play on guitar. Loved slow dancing to this song because as it's tempo rose ..so did emotions lol. One if not the greatest rock songs of all time.
If you love guitars may I recommend a couple artists 1) Stevie Ray Vaughan and a couple of his songs "Voo Doo Child" and "Mary had a little lamb" Many consider him the greatest ever. 2) Pink Floyd and the song ("Comfortably Numb" live at Pulse), considered to be one of the best guitar solos ever.
It occurs to me at the beginning that Page doesn't know yet: five minutes later he plays the greatest solo in rock history. Most of it is improvisation.
Nobody around today is on the level as Led Zeppelin!!!!!
Led zepplin wasn't just music. It was a 12 year experience.
It’s a recorder, not a flute. Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band that will ever walk this earth.
And at that, it’s John Paul Jones on his Mellotron, imitating recorders/flutes very convincingly.
Never played the same way twice - the GREAT Led Zeppelin.
Thx ☺️
look at the passion on his face
💙💙
there will never be music like this ever again
Nope
No one now comes close to Led Zeppelin. By a million miles
I think Jimmy was probably my favorite guitar player when I was a kid. I would spend hours listening to Led Zeppelin. It's great that Simone appreciates Jimmy's playing in his version.
No one but no one can emulate this music today, that's why its tmieless
Agreed
the performance alone says it all no contest
this is the best band ever doing 1 of the greatest ever versions of 1 of the best songs ever written by anybody EVER!!!
I pride myself on my powers of observation and I would say, on balance, you are a fan :)
@@Isleofskye yku oicked up on the subtle hints then, good job
Unreal,he is not of this world
SKS: "Oh, we have some double guitar going here ...."
Jimmy Page: "Hold my beer!" 😉
LOL NOT TO SHABBY LOL IF YOU ASK ME
Jimmy was born to be holding that guitar on the stage.
you are just now witnessing the greatest night in rock and roll history just enjoy
I agree
Lol. No one even back then could perform like that. That’s why Zeppelin is at the peak of rock mountain.
The "flute" is a mellotron keyboard. It had the flute sound, strings mixed with brass, and a choral effect. It used to overheat easily. This was a time of fighting with your instrruments while playing, especially keyboards. I love that sound too. Goes great with weed.
they never played a song the same way twice live, the FELT it every time!!!
Stairway to Heaven came out in 1971, this Madison Square Garden show was in 1973, it is great..
I think that was John Paul Jones on the Keyboards making the Flute sound.. ♠W.G.
100% Correct !
Correct. The Melatrom. This keyboard was very used those days. Beatles and Beach Boys used a lot.
Yes, is him
In my time of dying
No joke, in the last year I have listened to that solo over 100 times... and it still hits me right in the soul EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Me too. And let's not forget how much it was enhanced by Bonzo's drums. I also love Jimmy's solo on No Quarter from that same concert film.
Expensive to watch live though. I saw them one year after Madison in North West London @ Wembley Arena and the ticket price?
75 PENCE or Just under $1........:)

❤❤❤Led Zeppelin ❤❤❤
When you said “I like guitar” I couldn’t wait to see your reaction to the solo. You didn’t disappoint.
Love Robert Plant's singing !!!......not unhappy about the open shirt either, not to mention the gorgeous hair, beautiful face and that awesome voice !!........wow !!
Not just the music, "The shirt" was never the same twice, as (rumour would have it) it was usually 'donated' by the previous evening's conquest.
@@andyallan2909 i've heard that before too......i don't necessarily believe it.....LOL
There is nobody from this generation that can compare. What was, and never will be again....Led Zeppelin
back when rock ruled america and the world, i can't even name a rock band in america save for metallica who is past their time
And the Song Remains the Same.
THE GUITAR!!!
hands down, that is the greatest guitar solo I have ever heard. Nothing else even comes close. 😀😀😀
It's the most fun guitar solo to listen to and watch.
The amazing Led Zeppelin! GREAT performance and great song from Led Zeppelin lV. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarist ever! Creative innovative phenomenal! ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
A Melatron making a flute sound. Jimmy Page...best guitarist there ever was!!
John Paul Jones was their secret weapon.

Also inspired the song Ramble On
The version of "Since I've Been Loving You" from the same concert is something to behold:)

This song, this version was for a time carved into our spirit as water carves through the stone.

The perfection of the slow hands, and everybody in harmony, while the leadsinger jazzes with his own words in between.
After The Beatles, Zeppelin is my favorite rock band. ❤🇧🇷🔥

Best band ever i was 17 years old when they performed this. Jimmy Page one of the best guitar players in the world. That double neck is a 12 string on top and a 6 string on the bottom.
Awesome
It blew my mind then, and now. Up there with Jethro Tull, Queen and Pink Floyd.
Another great British band I'd recommend is dire straits sultans of swing live.

Clássic 👏👏👏👏
I saw Led Zeppelin live twice in 1977 and although many say it wasn't as good as the 1975 tour, it was great as far as I was concerned.
Awesome how you got some stank-face during the guitar solo!!!!
Thanks simone great song and performance
Song came out in 1971 on Zep 4

1) Stevie Ray Vaughan and a couple of his songs "Voo Doo Child" and "Mary had a little lamb" Many consider him the greatest ever.
2) Pink Floyd and the song ("Comfortably Numb" live at Pulse), considered to be one of the best guitar solos ever.

that incredible solo all i gotta say is hes doing work son.
Yessss
