You're absolutely right about Pink Floyd being a journey. This is one of those things that you need to experience with a glass of whisky or wine in a darkened room late in the evening when all the stresses of the day have gone.
I was fortunate to see Pink Floyd 11 times on this tour including their last U.S. show at Giants Stadium. They brought the amazement every single show. Sometimes it pays to be old 😁
Whilst you are looking at the Pulse concert you really must watch / react to 'The Great Gig in the Sky'. Very emotional and yet wonderful. You will not be disappointed. It's also quite different from what you've heard so far.

Often there are many reasons to listen to a live version and Pulse is incredible. BUT NOT IN THIS CASE. Please listen to the studio version first. The live version is amazing but the studio version is unbelievable. You can only do a first reaction once and believe me it has to be this way 15:02

This concert was my way in to Pink Floyd - it was shown on TV late at night after a documentary about them and my family recorded it on VHS. I watched it again and again, and then moved on to Dark Side as I'd heard it live to see what the studio version was like, and onwards down the rabbit hole. They are/were a legend in their own lifetimes and it's amazing that David Gilmour is still writing and performing and touring even now in his 70s and still sounding amazing.
"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, Racing around to come up behind you again" Probably my favorite line in music. The older you get, the more this hits like a brick.
You know, I've heard maybe everything by Pink Floyd a thousand times. I still enjoy it, of course, but for the last few years I've been entertaining myself by watching the reactions to their music. I have to say, I'm enjoying it immensely. Watching those enthusiastic people staring open-mouthed, shaking their heads in disbelief and smiling and fooling around like I did when I first heard them. Then I love hearing the verbal reviews and reactions to their music or videos. I have to say, it really moves me. Thanks a lot. If I could recommend one really fantastic journey, it would be Shine on you Crazy Diamond (I strongly recommend the studio version with the original animated video though). This is an absolute musical masterpiece that will shoot you into space.
I listened to this song and the entire album when I was a young teen, then a middle-aged man and now a man in his twilight years. For me, the meaning has not changed over those years. As I got older, the meaning became more powerful, more intense, more pertinent to my life. I saw in the comments of various people recommending The Great Gig in the Sky from the Pulse concert. Yes, that version is probably the best live version out there. The ladies were certainly excellent. But the album version was done by Clare Torry who was the one who composed the vocalizing ad lib over two and a half takes with no instructions from the band other than to use no words. Clare Torry's version is nothing short of breathtakingly powerful.
I have seen Australian Pink Floyd live in Manchester UK and they are the next best thing to watching Pink Floyd live they were amazing and a bonus i got a free ticket of my friend Pink Floyd are one of the goats of music next you need to watch echoes live in Pompeii just awesome
In these re-edited versions, all they have done is add in short clips from the rehearsals of the same number to get different angles of the performers. The sound remains unmatched.
Time from the album, Darkside of the Moon. Darkside of the Moon was my first introduction to Pink Floyd in the 70s as a young teenager. We have so many groups and great music that never made it across the pond to your country
The whole Pulse concert is amazing but I think with Time it's best to listen to it from the Dark side of the moon album to really get what it is about. It's a brilliant song.

Im 60 now. Have listened to PF since i was 12 and i love them still, When listen to them, it´s not just a song you get, it´s an experience. Was lucky to see them in Copenhagen in early 90s, great concert 👌👌👌
Thanks, guys.. I first heard this as a teenager... PF takes a lot of patience to appreciate... (their shows were well-known for awesome effects... I never got to see them live.. it was usually "draw down the shades, and relax with eyes closed")
In a nutshell this song covers the span of a life; it starts with a child frittering away their free time, moves to a young adult realizing their years are slipping away, then an adult with their time consumed by work until their "song is over" with less to show for it than they'd hoped. It concludes with the senior by their fire at home and then finishes with the church bell and prayers at their funeral.

When I was a teen and early 20-something, I liked Pink Floyd well enough, enjoyed this song, and thought it sounded cool but didn't really think about it very deeply. Tbh, I'm not sure I could've even told you what it was about back in the day as I think I only ever really half listened to it. As a middle-aged man, however, the lyrics of "Time" are devastating and, more often than not, will make me cry. And yet I still listen to the song because it's a brilliant, gorgeous piece of art that perfectly encapsulates a painful but universal truth that we, as humans, all share. Btw, I agree with what you said at the end, that "Time" is a good song to listen to and reminisce, but I also think it's a great song to listen to for motivation to stop procrastinating and do something. It reminds you that life is short and we only have so long to do the things we want to do, so stop waiting and just do them while you're here and you have your brief moment in the sun. As much as I find "Time" devastating in the thoughts and memories it brings up of what I haven't done, this song has also, on many occasions, inspired me to get moving and do things I'd put off for years.
In a recent interview with fellow youtuber Rick Beato, David Gilmour said about his playing that from very early on, he tried to play faster, but he simply couldn't get there, which i find a humble admission from someone so highly regarded. For me, his playing is about precision and the beautifully crafted songs that will last for decades if not centuries. Give me that over flashy and forgetful any day.
The Pulse concert included the entire Dark Side of the Moon in the second half. The third best selling album of all time (behind Jackson Thriller and AC/DC) in the album charts for a constant 17 years. DSOTM was from 1972, this concert is 1994 but the compositions (they're not just songs) are timeless. I've loved them since they formed in 1965 and still get goosebumps listening. All of their songs carry a message, one that hits you harder the older you get. I'm 75, my kids listen to Pink Floyd, my grandkids listen to Pink Floyd. Although PF basically ceased after the death of Rick Wright the keyboard player, guitarist Dave Gilmore still tours now aged 78 playing PF amongst his own numbers and he still makes his guitar sing. The best guitarist ever from the best band on the planet.

It’s British craftsmanship. It’s what we do. All these bands that learned their stuff in the 1960’s and 1970’s could actually play their instruments and do it in a live concert. Now it’s computerised and formulaic.
It seems to be about getting older, and how faster time seems to fly and not doing all of what you wanted to do as a younger person. Quite dark lyrics in some ways, although the final few lines seem cosier and more content ! 👍👍👍
Speaking of time... this song is over 50 years old. This performance is 30 years ago (I saw this tour live in 94). Somehow it still sounds fresh and relevant. Sonically, Lyrically, Musically, Visually, this could have been cut and performed yesterday. Well it couldn't, because nobody does stuff like this now, but you would never think this music is so old. But back to the 30 year thing, when this was performed in 1994, 30 years earlier would have been 1964. It bogles my mind how rock music changed so dramatically in such a short time from the early 60s to the early 70s. We haven't really had that kind of a leap forward since. Just kind of blows your mind, what legends like Pink Floyd were able to accomplish without much of a roadmap. When I was coming of age, in high school then college, we all loved the classic bands. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, etc. But Pink Floyd somehow still transcends generations more than those bands. Not saying they're better, but they continue to connect with people. You see so many young people with Pink Floyd shirts for example, and some of the actually have listened to the music lol!
I've owned a copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" since my sophomore year of high school back in 1973. If you were impaired after a long night and listening to this with headphones when those alarms kick in it's a rude awakening. Not that I ever was, I just heard that from someone. 😁
Watch or listen to pink floyd the wall from start to finish, it's a whole thing connected. i first listend to it in high school back in 1988, me and my pal had a sony walkman and in ear headphones were just kinda new so we each had one earphone in during class as we sat side by side and the teacher couldn't see it. great times
You guys should listen, privately, to the studio version of this song. PF's live concerts are crazy good but studio "Time" and "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" are so much better (imo). I think you will agree after you hear both. Love your reactions.
Dark Side Of The Moon is much better if you listen to the entire album from the first track to the last. The muisc and musicianship can still be appreciated piecemeal - the odd individual track here and there over diferent days - but you then miss a geat deal of it's impact, themes and transitions. This album, is an album first and foremost. You get so much more from a complete listen through. I bought the vinyl on its UK release and listen to it about three times before I realised that the sun had set and I was sitting in the dark with my headphones on. Brilliant. BTW this is not a plea to react to the album online. Just do yourselves a favour and listen to it at home (not driving or working) without interruption.
My favorite P: F; track is from 1971 it's Echoes. It's about Pompei and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. An absolute masterpiece. Settle down with your headphones or buds on, close your eyes, and let the 20-minute story unfold.
Anything from Pulse frankly. I was lucky enough to be there at Earls Court, London in 94. Totally took it for granted at the time. Had seen Queen live a few weeks before the Pulse concert and Rush, SuperTramp and Dire Straits within a year of it. Like I said I took it all for granted and its only now I truly realise what an amazing time I was living through.
It’s not an accident that you both mentioned the word journey about their music. Pink Floyd set the whole atmosphere of their songs when they played them live. Sights, sounds and feelings all came into play alongside the music which took their listeners on a journey. I’ll just echo others by saying that you should watch the entire Pulse concert, if not for channel content then for your own experience. Wait until you hear High Hopes from this concert, talk about being taken on a journey. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

After a lifetime of listening to Pink Floyd, i was fortunate enough to see them at this great concert. My brother & myself travelled over 200 miles to see them at Earls court. One track that stands out for me at the venue was 'One of these days'. A masterpiece with Mr Gilmour on slide guitar. Listening to 1 track from DSOM is sacrilegious. Its a concept album that needs to be heard continuously from start to finish. Its like reading one chapter from a book
This is one of the very few songs I prefer in the studio version. This live version is nowhere "bad" but Time in its studio version is just perfection. Unlike comfortably numb which imo the studio version was just the blueprint for the pulse live perfection. The heavy and full atmosphere, every little sound and quirk in the studio version was crafted to an untouchable level. It's exactly what Time should sound like. Still all the pulse performances are exceptional.
Pink Floyd is definitely an experience. The soundscape takes you on a journey, YES. A note, this is the 3rd track from the album Dark Side of the Moon. It is a complete journey/story from start to finish. The "home again" section is a reprise of the earlier track called "Breathe In The Air". The track before Time is an instrumental, depicting a nightmare of fear of flying and at the end the plane crashes, then the alarm clocks wake you up from that nightmare... There is a reason this remains one of the highest selling albums of all time, it is pure musical and lyrical genius. You really must listen to the whole album from start to finish. It has not only been among the highest selling albums of all time, but it has also been selected for inclusion in the list of most influential recordings of all time, in the Library of Congress. I don't believe you really listened to the lyrics, because in stark contrast to the spacey feeling of the music, the lyrics are rather deep, somewhat dark and like an emotional gut punch. To quote Roger Waters who wrote the lyrics, "It has some kind of universal appeal in that it confronts a number of major emotional and psychological concerns". The next track deals with how we face death, and it's called "The Great Gig in the Sky". Stages - anger, disbelief, pain, regret and finally acceptance - all without words in a unique manner.
You definitely must watch Echoes live in Gdansk from 2006. Gilmour's and Wright"s last performance together. 25 minutes of epic journey, one of the best shows and performances ever. You won't regret

In a nutshell this song covers the span of a life; it starts with a child frittering away their free time, moves to a young adult realizing their years are slipping away, then an adult with their time consumed by work until their "song is over" with less to show for it than they'd hoped. It concludes with the senior by their fire at home and then finishes with the church bell and prayers at their funeral.

When I was a teen and early 20-something, I liked Pink Floyd well enough, enjoyed this song, and thought it sounded cool but didn't really think about it very deeply. Tbh, I'm not sure I could've even told you what it was about back in the day as I think I only ever really half listened to it. As a middle-aged man, however, the lyrics of "Time" are devastating and, more often than not, will make me cry.
And yet I still listen to the song because it's a brilliant, gorgeous piece of art that perfectly encapsulates a painful but universal truth that we, as humans, all share.
Btw, I agree with what you said at the end, that "Time" is a good song to listen to and reminisce, but I also think it's a great song to listen to for motivation to stop procrastinating and do something. It reminds you that life is short and we only have so long to do the things we want to do, so stop waiting and just do them while you're here and you have your brief moment in the sun. As much as I find "Time" devastating in the thoughts and memories it brings up of what I haven't done, this song has also, on many occasions, inspired me to get moving and do things I'd put off for years.
In a recent interview with fellow youtuber Rick Beato, David Gilmour said about his playing that from very early on, he tried to play faster, but he simply couldn't get there, which i find a humble admission from someone so highly regarded. For me, his playing is about precision and the beautifully crafted songs that will last for decades if not centuries. Give me that over flashy and forgetful any day.
The Pulse concert included the entire Dark Side of the Moon in the second half. The third best selling album of all time (behind Jackson Thriller and AC/DC) in the album charts for a constant 17 years. DSOTM was from 1972, this concert is 1994 but the compositions (they're not just songs) are timeless. I've loved them since they formed in 1965 and still get goosebumps listening. All of their songs carry a message, one that hits you harder the older you get. I'm 75, my kids listen to Pink Floyd, my grandkids listen to Pink Floyd. Although PF basically ceased after the death of Rick Wright the keyboard player, guitarist Dave Gilmore still tours now aged 78 playing PF amongst his own numbers and he still makes his guitar sing. The best guitarist ever from the best band on the planet.

“I wrote that when I was 29 years old,” Roger Waters once told Rolling Stone. “The bits in the song where it goes, No one told you when to run/You missed the starting gun, it’s about my experience of being 29 years old and certainly going, ‘Fuck me. It’s the middle of life. I’ve been told that I was preparing for something.’
“The reason it’s a good song is because it describes the predicament of anybody who, growing up - if we’re grown up at all - suddenly realizes that time is going really, really fast,” Waters continued. “It makes you start to philosophize about life and what is important and how to derive joy from that.”

It’s British craftsmanship. It’s what we do. All these bands that learned their stuff in the 1960’s and 1970’s could actually play their instruments and do it in a live concert. Now it’s computerised and formulaic.

It seems to be about getting older, and how faster time seems to fly and not doing all of what you wanted to do as a younger person. Quite dark lyrics in some ways, although the final few lines seem cosier and more content ! 👍👍👍

Speaking of time... this song is over 50 years old. This performance is 30 years ago (I saw this tour live in 94). Somehow it still sounds fresh and relevant. Sonically, Lyrically, Musically, Visually, this could have been cut and performed yesterday. Well it couldn't, because nobody does stuff like this now, but you would never think this music is so old. But back to the 30 year thing, when this was performed in 1994, 30 years earlier would have been 1964. It bogles my mind how rock music changed so dramatically in such a short time from the early 60s to the early 70s. We haven't really had that kind of a leap forward since. Just kind of blows your mind, what legends like Pink Floyd were able to accomplish without much of a roadmap. When I was coming of age, in high school then college, we all loved the classic bands. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, etc. But Pink Floyd somehow still transcends generations more than those bands. Not saying they're better, but they continue to connect with people. You see so many young people with Pink Floyd shirts for example, and some of the actually have listened to the music lol!

I've owned a copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" since my sophomore year of high school back in 1973. If you were impaired after a long night and listening to this with headphones when those alarms kick in it's a rude awakening. Not that I ever was, I just heard that from someone. 😁
Watch or listen to pink floyd the wall from start to finish, it's a whole thing connected. i first listend to it in high school back in 1988, me and my pal had a sony walkman and in ear headphones were just kinda new so we each had one earphone in during class as we sat side by side and the teacher couldn't see it. great times
You guys should listen, privately, to the studio version of this song. PF's live concerts are crazy good but studio "Time" and "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" are so much better (imo). I think you will agree after you hear both. Love your reactions.
Dark Side Of The Moon is much better if you listen to the entire album from the first track to the last. The muisc and musicianship can still be appreciated piecemeal - the odd individual track here and there over diferent days - but you then miss a geat deal of it's impact, themes and transitions. This album, is an album first and foremost. You get so much more from a complete listen through. I bought the vinyl on its UK release and listen to it about three times before I realised that the sun had set and I was sitting in the dark with my headphones on. Brilliant.
BTW this is not a plea to react to the album online. Just do yourselves a favour and listen to it at home (not driving or working) without interruption.
My favorite P: F; track is from 1971 it's Echoes. It's about Pompei and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. An absolute masterpiece. Settle down with your headphones or buds on, close your eyes, and let the 20-minute story unfold.
Anything from Pulse frankly. I was lucky enough to be there at Earls Court, London in 94. Totally took it for granted at the time. Had seen Queen live a few weeks before the Pulse concert and Rush, SuperTramp and Dire Straits within a year of it.
Like I said I took it all for granted and its only now I truly realise what an amazing time I was living through.

It’s not an accident that you both mentioned the word journey about their music. Pink Floyd set the whole atmosphere of their songs when they played them live. Sights, sounds and feelings all came into play alongside the music which took their listeners on a journey. I’ll just echo others by saying that you should watch the entire Pulse concert, if not for channel content then for your own experience. Wait until you hear High Hopes from this concert, talk about being taken on a journey. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

After a lifetime of listening to Pink Floyd, i was fortunate enough to see them at this great concert. My brother & myself travelled over 200 miles to see them at Earls court. One track that stands out for me at the venue was 'One of these days'. A masterpiece with Mr Gilmour on slide guitar. Listening to 1 track from DSOM is sacrilegious. Its a concept album that needs to be heard continuously from start to finish. Its like reading one chapter from a book
This is one of the very few songs I prefer in the studio version. This live version is nowhere "bad" but Time in its studio version is just perfection. Unlike comfortably numb which imo the studio version was just the blueprint for the pulse live perfection. The heavy and full atmosphere, every little sound and quirk in the studio version was crafted to an untouchable level. It's exactly what Time should sound like. Still all the pulse performances are exceptional.
Pink Floyd is definitely an experience. The soundscape takes you on a journey, YES. A note, this is the 3rd track from the album Dark Side of the Moon. It is a complete journey/story from start to finish. The "home again" section is a reprise of the earlier track called "Breathe In The Air". The track before Time is an instrumental, depicting a nightmare of fear of flying and at the end the plane crashes, then the alarm clocks wake you up from that nightmare... There is a reason this remains one of the highest selling albums of all time, it is pure musical and lyrical genius. You really must listen to the whole album from start to finish. It has not only been among the highest selling albums of all time, but it has also been selected for inclusion in the list of most influential recordings of all time, in the Library of Congress.
I don't believe you really listened to the lyrics, because in stark contrast to the spacey feeling of the music, the lyrics are rather deep, somewhat dark and like an emotional gut punch. To quote Roger Waters who wrote the lyrics, "It has some kind of universal appeal in that it confronts a number of major emotional and psychological concerns". The next track deals with how we face death, and it's called "The Great Gig in the Sky". Stages - anger, disbelief, pain, regret and finally acceptance - all without words in a unique manner.
You definitely must watch Echoes live in Gdansk from 2006. Gilmour's and Wright"s last performance together. 25 minutes of epic journey, one of the best shows and performances ever. You won't regret
