I was blessed and fortunate enough to see Zeppelin live at "Live Aid," 1985, Philadelphia, RFK Stadium. Phil Collin played drums, but Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones were there. They played this song and every single person in that stadium was standing up, including myself. I had tears in my eyes and remember feeling one and part of the universe, the stars were out and I looked up.... Speechless and breathless. Jimmy Page's guitar solo had me in heaven. They also played "Rock and Roll," and "Black Dog.," but "Stairway to Heaven" took me to heaven! 😋
Your smile through out this performance says it all. I probably heard this song a million times and it doesn't get old. The guitar is a double neck Gibson EDS-1275, basically a double neck SG. The top neck is a 12 string and the bottom neck is a 6 string. You can see him switch from the 12 string to the 6 string right before he starts playing one of the best and iconic guitar solos in history.

He said the concert was so good, so unforgettable, that to this day he`s not quite sure if it actually happened or if he just dreamt it all.
This live extended version has to be the greatest guitar solo ever. I was just as amazed when I first saw 'The Song Remains the Same' . .. John Bonham's drumming was also another main aspect that made this band so legendary, he passed away way too early and deprived us of much much more great music from them....RIP JB.

Jimmy Page ordered this guitar from Gibson sometime in 1970/71, for the sole purpose of having something to play “Stairway to Heaven” on when performing live. It is a Gibson EDS-1275 . The top is a 12 string. The bottom is a 6 string .
Robert still has a good voice. I saw him recently with a fantastic singer called Suzy Dian, it was a pleasure to see how he held the audience in the palm of his hand, whether singing or speaking.

Even though you can't see it that well, this version of the song still brings tears to my eyes. The sheer magnitude of the original song is out-performed live. Jimmy's solo is from another planet.
Totally disagree. Live performances are exciting and often a great, memorable experience, but the original studio version of tunes are almost always superior. I've been a Zep fan for decades, and that is certainly the case with almost all of their songs, and expecially Stairway To Heaven. The audio quality and the artistry of the production is miles above what could be attempted and performed live. That's not a knock or criticism of Led Zeppelin or any other band.

Led Zeppelin 4 was released today November 8th 1971 so this song is now 51 years old today and I’m 54 just to give you some perspective! Enjoy! Also this will sound trivial to some but at 3:43 On here the full sound of the original Jimmy’s guitar and John Paul’s recorders and bass it reminds me of being baptized in the warm water of the church ⛪️ baptismal pool! It takes my breath away!
Verdy you must watch the Kennedy Center tribute to Led Zeppelin where Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart sing Stairway to heaven in front on the remaining members of Led Zeppelin with Jon Bonham's son, Jason Bonham playing the drums. It is an amazing tribute.
I really enjoy your reactions to the music I grew up with and still love! Your enthusiasm for the music heartwarming! You have a lot more great Zeppelin tunes to experience, enjoy the ride. Keep up the great work!
Comment Ca va Verdy. Greetings from Northern California. I am “Gifted with age” as my priest says and it gives me great pleasure to see a young person enjoying the music of my youth. Thank you.
Jimmy is p-laying a Gibson EDS-1275 "Doublerneck" guitar . The top neck is a twelve string and the bottom one is a six string neck. He used the twelve string neck to bring fullness and to better replicate the acoustic and 12 string guitar parts on the record, then he switches to the six string neck for the blistering solo..On the studio record he used a Harmony Sovereign H1260 acoustic guitar and a Fender Electric XII 12 string for the main guitar parts, and for the solo, Page used a 1959 Fender Telecaster that Jeff Beck had gifted him after using it extensively in the Yardbirds.
Hey Verdy. Cool reaction. To finish the appreciation of this song, watch “Heart-Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin - Kennedy Center Honors HP”. This has 94 million views. The drummer in this video is the son of the original drummer in Led Zeppelin. Stay cool Verdy.
Hey Verdy, Enjoying your reaction and comments. It's always a pleasure. You commented about Zeppelin's rock and roll song from their studio album 4. You had mentioned that it must be fun to do live. The title as you may know of a live album with that song is, 'The Song Remains the Same'. I recommend giving that a listen. Instead of two separate guitars in different ranges you get only one. But Jimmy is all over that one guitar. It is riotous and well worth the listen. Stay cool and keep on rocking, good lady!!!
I've literally listened to this version about a thousand times, and it never gets old for me; the song, musically, is about energy, motion, space and time and lyrically, it takes one on a mystical and spiritual journey to the center of their own souls. It's truly astounding on so many different levels. Page's solo is not of this earth; he makes his guitar sing, cry, laugh and wail and transcend our earthly plane. Compositionally, it's mind-blowing as well; covering gentle, Celtic-based folk at the beginning to a more jazzy, up-tempo style in the middle and climaxes in a stunning full-on rock anthem at the end. And the performances? Is there anyone, at any time, who were cooler and had better showmanship than these guys?? I think NOT. Still gives me goosebumps; how could it not?
Think about this: Drummer John Bonham not only studied the top jazz drummers, he didn't start LEARNING the drumming art until he was 15 years old! In less than five years he became this drummer.
Picture an 11 yr old with headphones in winter 1977, sitting next to my Father's turntable. Gazing out the large front window of newly built suburbia homes. This version was printed in my brain, as imagined feelings and faces and wondering how to play it. The live sound of Madison Square Garden. I didn't see the movie till many years later.
Now with music streaming, all music lovers of music should not necessarily start at the beginning of the history of music but from their own time, go in reverse chronologically and your jaw will drop because you see how the foundations were built from where you are and it is amazing. 70s-60s-50s, rock, big band, jazz, blues, ragtime, romantic, classical, baroque, renaissance, chant...And then laterally in those eras you can go into styles and genres. You can do this with just about anything. Life is too short.
I was lucky enough to see them perform this song live at the Greensboro Coliseum in May of 1977 at the tender age of 15. They were my favorite band and my older sister and her boyfriend were nice enough to let me tag along with them since I didn't even have my driver's license yet. Edit to add I also almost died to this song...the memory just popped into my head after reminiscing about the concert I mentioned above. I was on my way to the beach to meet up with my best friend who was already down there. There was an 18 wheeler driving slowly in the left lane (4 lane highway with 2 lanes on each side but out in the country). I moved into the right lane to pass him and he took a right turn into a driveway (didn't see that coming). I swerved to the right barely missing his cab and ended up laying my car down into a drainage ditch that ran along the right side of the highway. When I came to a stop this song was still playing on my cassette deck. True story!
One of my regrets was never seeing these guys live. They played at Madison Square Garden a few times, this one is from 1973, it's a 45 minute train ride from where I live. There was also an iconic poster of Robert and Jimmy from the movie I had hanging on my bedroom wall next to the 2 posters from Dark Side of the Moon and my Castle on the Hill blacklight poster. This performance, and all 3 nights there, were included in their movie "The Song Remains the Same".
Saw them in 1977. 3-years before Bonham died. I was 20 years old. Yeah, I'm an old geezer now but I remember that show like it was last week. Really remember how the crowd pushed thru. the arena going in. This was back when they still had festival seating. I thought we were going to be trampled to death before we were able to find seats. But after we sat down and the show started they were awesome as usual.
Now if you listen to 'Dazed & Confused' from the same concert, ( the 28 minute version) You will see how Jimmy Page gets all those effects out of his guitar. It is something special.
Had tickets to see Led Zeppelin, Plant's son passed tragically, tour was cancelled and I never did get to see the boys. This version is rather calm, there are other versions where Page just shreds it.
I really love seeing a young lady like yourself who appreciates the music that I grew up with! This has been my favorite song since I was in 6th grade, (1976). I don't know if you noticed, but the yellow/gold light was trained on Robert's hair, because he was referred to as the Golden God. 😀
Yes an EDS-1275 Gibson Double Neck, I have one in Black , wish I could show you. I have been playing guitar (classic Rock like Zepp) for about 50 years & happen to like this Madison Square Garden version better than the album version. 😎👍
Loved your reaction to this Verdy and I 100% agree with your analysis about the colours that go with the song. I'm sure it was well thought out beforehand, how to light the stage for the different segments of the song for all the aspects you pointed out...👏👏👏
Jimmy wrote the music to it and while they were playing it Robert leaned up against a wall and wrote the words. Usually the words come first but Jimmy wrote most of their songs then Robert added words
Really happy to see young people discovering music we grew up with. Thank you for being real and curious about music. Watching you rock-out is wonderful. Hoping you will discover “Dire Straits” and “Mark Knopfler” soon
Glad you are doing the video. All of us that were teens when this came out loved Stairway. The only awkward part was when they played it at dances. You would start out slow dancing and then kind of fast dancing at the end. I was just amazing to watch them. Was lucky to see them at the Pontiac Silverdome (Detroit stop) with 80,000 of my like minded friends.
Favorite rendition of my favorite song. Couldn't agree more with what you said. The song just buiilds and builds to its conclusion. Nobody commanded a stage like RP. JP's guitar solo pretty much stands alone. Epic.

I had the pleasure of hearing the band perform this song on the same tour in the fall of 1973. They played a daylight concert at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park's Kezar Stadium. And it was absolutely epic. For their encore, they performed "A Whole Lotta Love," and released hundreds of live doves for the finale. The birds knew to circle the interior of the stadium and return home to roost. ☺️
Hello Verdy, Wat @ pure pleasure watching sum-one who ""Completely gets it"" Tha' sheer talent of jimmy page @ of course all Led Zeppelin ( BTW! double neck is 1=12 string @ oth' 6 string ) Coz tha' song required ""both"" jimmy had it specially made! ( thnk I'm rght' in saying he was tha' 1st to hv double-nck! Really enjoy watching yr genuine understanding of great British Rockbands All ❤️ Frm 🇬🇧 Xxx.
My all time favorite song, I was 16 when this came out in 1971 and through my college years moved me like you show. The three levels of music are incredible! Better to hear remixed in modern
studio form. Thank you for showing us your feelings for this beautiful song!
I was 18 years old and this was my first high profile band concert. I sat seven rows in front of the stage and my life changed that night. It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Couple of years later I saw the last tour The Presence tour in Los Angeles at the forum couple of great memories. I also was at the Lynyrd Skynyrd free Bird concert in Oakland only I saw that concert that same tour in Anaheim Angels stadium as the sun went down you checked that out also. new subscriber
Amazing!
... always a choice.🕑 Glad so many choose the 1 they did ‼️🎸
This was the first rock song that I had ever heard ‼️
Thanks to my dearest friend.
"2 paths that you can go by ... "
We are still friends ... since 1983 🎉
Thank You for the Entertainment ‼️
and memories ... 😊
can see the love and awe in your eyes. Imagine being there. I was. felt the same as you. 1970 onwards. for me
Led Zeppelin 4 was released today November 8th 1971 so this song is now 51 years old today and I’m 54 just to give you some perspective! Enjoy!
Also this will sound trivial to some but at 3:43 On here the full sound of the original Jimmy’s guitar and John Paul’s recorders and bass it reminds me of being baptized in the warm water of the church ⛪️ baptismal pool! It takes my breath away!
watched you for a while your smile says it all!!! This is history
Honestly, that was the best reaction I've ever seen in my life. What a fantastic thing. I always get emotional listening to this song.
Lovely reaction, young lady. ❤
Words simply can't do this song justice. It's an eternal treasure. 👍
This is a song for eternity - I can't describe it better. I am particularly happy when young people can also get enthusiastic about it.
I think this is the best version of this song I've ever heard
I love your reaction, watch Whole Lotta Love from this same MSG concert
I really enjoy your reactions to the music I grew up with and still love! Your enthusiasm for the music heartwarming! You have a lot more great Zeppelin tunes to experience, enjoy the ride. Keep up the great work!
Verdy Channel....One of only a handful of genuine Reaction stuff...love it!
Comment Ca va Verdy. Greetings from Northern California. I am “Gifted with age” as my priest says and it gives me great pleasure to see a young person enjoying the music of my youth. Thank you.
This is one of the best songs in the World !!!
Merci pour ça !!! Tellement bon en live !!!😻
The exact recommendation I was about to make
Yes watch the heart tribute.
Yes please
And if you've never heard it...try Heart's song Barracuda.
Soooooooo......good!!!!!
"Doubleneck guitar" works "18 string" too because one neck is standard 6 string and one is 12 strings.😎👍
Subscribed after that heartfelt reaction and your true appreciation for music.
Great reaction to a great song! Thank you Verdy.
Iconic performance the entire show is brilliant. My fav moments are no quarter & since I've been loving you.
VERDY great job with your reaction and thoughts on Stairway To Heaven from LED Zeppelin .✌️❤️🙂
Beautiful reaction! ❤
Beautiful reaction. 😍
Were you too young to go? Or was it just too long a trip?
@@petergiffes1239 I was 13 or 14 then.
@@summergivens242 I was 19 in '77, but was in the Marine Corps stationed in North Carolina one of the last times they played the Garden.
Now if you listen to 'Dazed & Confused' from the same concert, ( the 28 minute version) You will see how Jimmy Page gets all those effects out of his guitar. It is something special.
I love how you focus on subtle musical passages? Une réaction très inspirante!
Great vid you look so happy there is lots of great hard rock out there
Had tickets to see Led Zeppelin, Plant's son passed tragically, tour was cancelled and I never did get to see the boys. This version is rather calm, there are other versions where Page just shreds it.
Your theory sounds right! Blue, Red, Blue fit’s the song! Probably one of Jimmy’s little production details.
Can I just add, that these guys were all around about your age, in this video, what an amazing thought.
Loved it Verdy. This reminded me of my first time. 🙂
Watch Heart’s version at the Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin…Awesome cover…
Jimmy Page is playing a Gibson EDS-1275 double-neck, which has 6 strings on the bottom, and 12 strings on the top.
Most famous solo ever, it has inspired millions. It's arguable what is the best, but for pure passion, the only other guitarist to touch God is Koss!
Loved your reaction to this Verdy and I 100% agree with your analysis about the colours that go with the song. I'm sure it was well thought out beforehand, how to light the stage for the different segments of the song for all the aspects you pointed out...👏👏👏
Great reaction the best band
Epic.
Fabulous reaction as usual miss Verdy. I'm searching your reaction to live Dazed and Confused. Epic guitar as we know you like. Cheers....thank you!
you need that huge Led Zeppelin poster in your room!! 🤪
😍 Exactly as they wrote in the comments before me! At first I regretted not having subtitles so I could at least have an automatic translation, but your reactions are familiar even without knowing English! It is a pleasure to see that even after so long this music brings joy! 😍
Content d'avoir tombé sur ton channel, bonne réaction :)
Kudos to you for reaching master level of reactions 👏 🤘 You're doing great 👍 👏 Keep up the good work 🙏❤
One of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
