@@rj7855 exactly same reason why I bought the ID.3 and not ID.4
The size difference just drove me off from the ID.4

the electric seats with memories is the only thing I wish my ID.3 would have; I've also a short partner and every time she drove I've have to pump the seat down before I can get into the car.
The main reason to go for the ID.3 instead of the ID.4 was the size, we wanted a smaller car as it's much easier to drive and especially to park in the tight parking garages of Barcelona

Thanks for the review! I really enjoyed watching it, I'm a Russian-born Londoner and I find that I really like the German way of assessing cars... here people want everything electric for example and I like manual fw/backward seat controls for example and I'd rather save money and have a manual tail gate etc... it's a unique review in English and I really value it! Thanks!

The fact OP has driven 23 EV's and this is 'his' car speaks volumes.
I'm hoping to buy an ID3 next year. Size is important to me. 75% of the time it's just me, 20% it's 2 people and 5% 3 or 4. I might do 1 longish trip a year, 300-400km, with more than just me in the car. I'd rather have the convenience of easy parking with a smaller car 95% of the time rather than the comfort of the ID4 for longer drives 5% of the time.

Thanks to VW forgetting I’d paid at 1st Edition id3 deposit, and then to your fantastic informative videos, I’ve ordered the big battery ID4 (but couldn’t afford the gtx version, sadly). We live a hours drive from everywhere so range is key for me, and didn’t want to sacrifice space/middle seat on the id3…but to me it looks better than the 4.
Also, the non-adaptive standard suspension was smoother in the id4 than the 3, so I can’t imagine what adaptive feels like, though I’m sure all aspects of any of these cars will smash my 07 Passat 2.L tdi 4motion (except in the snow).

I love my iD4. It’s funny when people talk about the lack of acceleration. It accelerates better than my wife’s car (Subaru crosstrak) and just as well as my old Mazda 6. I dont need more acceleration, and I’ve driven this on US interstates and side roads. My only criticism about the iD4 is; 1. No heads up display (only in Europe), no rear climate control (also only Europe). Also have problems where trying charge and it’ll not unlock the plug even though I’m done charging. Finally the infotainment system is horrible and hopefully fixed through updates.

My ID.3 trunk also doesn't close well. So often I sit in the car to see the trunk isn't completely closed and I need to get out again. Hate it....

I think this pretty much depends on the user case. If it's just you and your wife, the id.3 makes all the sense in the world. For myself, with a wife, two kids (one big, one infant) and a large dog, id.4 is more like the bare minimum space wise.
I'm driving a large station wagon now, and it just works if all five of us should go on the road. I can't have a smaller trunk, because the dog cage wouldn't fit there. Looking at the ev market right now, Enyaq and id.4 seem to be the only two options for me.

I like SUVs but I drove both ID3 and ID4 and, honestly ID3 is more agile. Let's not forget those 400kg less on ID3 vs ID4. You don't have kids and even if you would the space in the back is more than enough. It is true that the trunk is the size of an Golf but many families can live with it. I remember you have small dogs. Last but not least you don't like SUVs, so why selling the bird in your hand with the one in the tree.
I am not a fan of black piano trims and slide buttons and ID3 is not the most beautiful car in the world but it's not bad at all.
    So, keep the ID3. 👍

The problem with VW group is the week regen or e-padel drive. For me is the best feature of an electric car, to be Able to drive with only one papel… with full stop.
Without this capability I would not buy an EV. VW GROUP is trying to please ICE drivers… but EV is not ICE, it’s different, it’s better… VW GROUP are making hybrid feeling drive… and as hybrids has proved, hybrid solutions is the worst of the two. Is it so difficult to introduce a button for e-papel? LIKE EVERY OTHER BRANS DO?
    E-tron with e-padel, and I buy it in a heartbeat…
    Another good review 👍

Nice comparison. The lack of towing capacity and original roof rack on the ID.3 makes it less versatile than its "predecessor" the Golf. This makes it a nice car for a single or two-person household but less than ideal for families with kids.

We have had an e-Golf as our only car since March 2016 and were waiting for ID.3, then learned it wasn't coming to the US. So I guess our next EV will not be a VW, unless VAG gets its act together and brings the ID.3 here. So disappointed: we love our EPA 83-mile e-Golf (summer: 100 mi, winter 75 mi) but will eventually want more range.

ID3 is nosier, sitting position in ID4 is a bit higher and easier to get in or out. Otherwise if you were blindfolded sat in the drivers position, asked to drive I would be a very, very hard guess. ID4 can have a trailer hitch ID3 cant*, well you can get a bike rack mount which is nice.

Strange «test». Motorized trunk is really nice, especially to open it by using the foot.
I had Tesla Model 3 SR+ before, that car was amazing, I’ve tried ID3, didn’t like it so much. I have ID4, the car is ok, many good things, like seat, trunk, AR, not much noise with 21" wheels and so on.
But my next car will be Tesla, I do really miss Model 3, that was a superb everyday car.

Unlikely to see an ID.3 without moving countries but maybe once VW drop some of their ICE models including the Golf which I think the ID.3 will most probably replace eventually.
