      Yes, I definitely like the spirit of this video. A friendly comparison with the pros and cons, with the differences for different people: More sporty or more comfortable - lower and longer or higher and shorter - that depends on the personal taste and on the environment in which the cars are used: Wide open roads or tight cities with tight parking garages every day... and so on. And still the taste is different. Both cars can be used in both environments, of course. It's a matter or personal taste and personal priorities and emotions of course.

      It's also really nice to see the id.3 in people's hands finally. The e-golf just doesn't have the range or charge speed to conveniently take trips. At 250 miles, 100kw, it becomes more of a charger question.

      Sorry to spoil your cozy friendly conversation, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing honest about the comparison test, but a blatant attempt to legitimize an under performing . over priced contraption by VW for an exorbitant price car that should have a $25.000 price tag and not a cent more. to compare the two cars considering the widely different specification, performance, Safety, overall contents, and vastly superior convenience is not acceptable.

    I like the clean, simple, and functional design of the Model 3, and the ID.3.
    I think the Start button in the ID.3 is not required - it is there if you want to use it, you can - or not.
    The ID.3 in D - probably does not have creep by default. It probably has adaptive creep - it gets some creep when you are in stop and go traffic, but it goes away again once you go above about 20MPH.
    The Model 3 motor is *amazing* engineering. They used a magnet assembly that uses 4 magnets with their poles in different directions that *focus* the magnetic field to the one side, which makes it more efficient. This design is called a Halbach Array.
    If the Model 3 was following the whole time - that is a HUGE advantage for it, having the lowered aero drag.

    Very nice. Both cars have their advantages, and it‘s personal preference. Nice fair comparison. My decision is the ID.3, because it will be used in the city, where things like turning radius are very important. And still it‘s a car for motorways as well, although a Tesla with better noise isolation seems to be superior.

      I agree, this is why more alternatives on the market is a good thing as it gives people more options to chose a car that suits a combination of budget/needs/wants that fits. Sadly, it gets lost a bit when so many articles and reviews about new EVs look at it form the angle of ‘is this a Tesla killer?’.

    I really like this product. Modern looking from outside, pragmatic from inside. It's evident it was designed to lower the cost. They don't pretend to have a luxury EV, it's all about creating reasonable A to B machine for a reasonable price. I have heard you can buy the cheapest version for around 25k € in Germany (after all bonuses). That is really nice but I think there is still some space for discount. If they sell well they don't have to lower the price. We will see :)

    • @Tanax13
      @Tanax13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Worth mentioning is that the cheapest Model 3 is €40k~ so it's 160% more expensive than the ID.3 which is quite the big difference!! Obviously different types of cars but still worth mentioning because tbh they're not really in the same segment :)

    • @IschChef
      @IschChef 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That 25k € ID.3 does not exist yet and it got a seriously smaller battery than the Model 3.
      In the current situation the Model 3 is about equally priced to the ID.3 despite the fact that Tesla has to pay 10% import taxes on each car. When Tesla starts producing in Germany they get the chance to undercut VW prices. Still there is a big market for the ID.3 and ID.4 because there are many people in Germany that simply walk to their VW dealer and buy whatever car they sell them. Also the ID.3 is just enough more traditional that people that are a bit scared of new things will prefer it. doing a test drive with an ID.3 is much easier than a Tesla test drive. Helps a lot as well.

    Some quick comments on some points made:
    - The Model 3's wind noise mostly comes from bad door seals, getting third-party door deals drastically improves it! (This was fixed on the Model Y where they installed better seals and inserted foam into the A-pillars to dampen any sound)
    - The 'wobble'/dead zone in the Model 3's steering is likely from the torque sensor used for Autopilot, or that would be my guess at least. :)
    - The Model 3 does get pretty floaty past 120mph~ it seems, though it's not as bad with the Performance model; The Model S/X use air suspension, so the 3 is their first mass-market car with affordable suspension. A lot to be learnt for future models!
    Can't deny that you sit on the floor in the Model 3 though, I've always owned performance cars and going to the Model 3 Performance felt great for me, but whenever I sit in my dad's Peugoet 308 it feels like I'm sat at a desk chair or something. 😅

      Definitely. A regular 3-pin plug will obviously charge it fairly slowly (13 amps and 230 volts gets you a maximum charge speed of around 3kW), but you can get a wall box installed (there is a government grant for this in the UK as well) that will charge it at 7kW cutting down the time it takes considerably. • @David-bl1bt
      @David-bl1bt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this makes perfect sense, there is no need for heavy regen on the motorway (freeway), but is of great benefit around town. @@BatteryLife I think it's the sum of many things including both aerodynamics and motor. Most EVs, including id.3 use a permanent magnet brushless motor. Model 3 SR+ uses an internal permanent magnet switched reluctance motor. I think Tesla is the only company using this type of EV motor. EV motor technology is advancing quickly. Lucid has apparently got a motor that's even better.

    Good video, nice to see two people just chatting and comparing what they like and don’t like about the cars without fanboyism.
    And I think that’s very important, because this fanboy mentality that only their favoured car is any good (or the equally unattractive mentality that everything one particular brand does is crap) puts normal people off at a time when we need to encourage people to transition to EVs. There is plenty of space on the market for several EV manufacturers to grab market share from fossil fuel cars.
    I’m not a fan of trying to make EVs feel like fossil fuel cars and mix regen and friction breaking with the break pedal, though I can understand some of it... Much prefer one-pedal driving on an EV. Perhaps VW could enable one-pedal driving via a software update.

    Great to see legacy companies are trying to catch on EV market. This will keep the competition healthy. If not then China might overtake everyone. On the same time we can’t deny that Tesla is the leading company on EV. They are the leader in this field. Tesla had open our eyes on EV capacities, range and power. On the same time they are thinking outside the box is making it unique among other. This why most likely it would be my 1st choice.

    Firstly - thanks for all your videos Chris - they're really helpful!
    The only thing these cars really have in common is that they're both EVs. They're different cars aimed at different users with a huge disparity in cost. I've ordered a new id3 - it cost me £26k in the UK. The cheapest new Model 3 I could buy was over £40k. Nothing against the Model 3 - it's just not in my budget and not well suited to me as a family nip-about-town car.

    VW still has some catching up to do. PSA (Peugeot etc.) is on a roll also so it won’t be easy for VW. You also can’t be too soon with these EVs because the buyers have to be there to make any sense of producing them. It might be a tad too soon still now? The manufacturer that enters the markets at the right time will make the most bucks, as always.
