Many many people would love to see a clone carb function with this machine. It is a real common problem and I have not seen anyone adjust a clone carb to work. Love the king quad and quad runner vids. Thank you!
I had the exact same model and year, except blue years ago and they are every bit as good as the king quad version. Some people even prefer the quad runner with a better power to weight ratio than the king has anyhow, and say performance is better over all, that's relative but yeah. Awesome score Harvey, keep up the great work! God bless and watch over us all, and what freedoms we have left in America.
Great video. I recently put a Chinese eBay carb on my '90 Quadrunner, it's just a clone of the stock Mikuni. It took a bit of modification to work - it came with threaded fittings where the throttle & choke cables go, so I had to drill those out to get my cables to fit. Everything came out alright though - I was able to start up the 'ol 250 for the first time in 15 years!
Love the quadrunners. The wife has a 85 230 quadrunner but I struggle with the stock carb as well. It runs fine but is a bear to cold start. Always needs choke even when 100+ out. First start always dies with full choke, immediately start again and will only idle with full choke till fully warmed up. Rapid throttle makes it stumble as well. Have tried different jets and valves are new and in spec. After watching this maybe I'll try the PZ clone. Thanks for all the video's. You help alot of people
I bought an lt-f250f that the 2 previous owners had given up on getting running (came with 2 china carbs). 1st Major problem was a blown fuel pump diaphragm filling the crank case completely with fuel. Threw the china carbs in the trash & bought a genuine Mikuni carb for $380 replaced the fuel pump and it runs like a dream. I work with 2 of the former owners. Both said it had never run that well & both asked "can I buy it back?" "Nope I really like it"
Great video! I recently put a mikuni clone on my91 2wd 250. So far so good! I like that all the original air box works. Your clone seems to work damn well! I will probably try this with a different bike
Thanks Harvey. This is basically the same machine as the Arctic Cat 300 2x4 that I have. It's the same engine etc just slightly different racks and plastics but on the whole its the same thing. I have the PZ30 and have gotten my brass plate but had gotten a 1 1/4 in pipe. gonna get some end caps and make my mounting bracket and get to wrenching. Need to do the top end and make sure the timing chain doesn't need replacing because I think it may have jumped a tooth. Got the machine from a guy who said it ran when he parked it but dont they all hahaha. Luckily my PZ30 has the bracket on it to be able to use the factory choke cable tested that and it worked perfectly. Many thanks as I was wondering if I was going in the right direction. You just proved I am. Cheers to you sir.
Great job, no doubt in my mind it was going to be a positive result. As heavy as they are and with the low range gearing they seem to be pretty good for plowing and towing within limits. Let me know if you need a plow and push tube for what appears to be someones gift. Keep those wheels rolling Harvey.
That one is a win! A muffler and youll be set. I'd want them to have the factory carbs and air boxes but I certainly understand why you like the PZ30 and 27. 👍👍
Since they use the same parts as my arctic cat I can tell you that the factory air box can be used and with a little hose work between the carb and the box itself it will seal and use the factory air cleaner etc. I test fit everything on the AC before I tear into the top end to rebuild it and it was all good to go.
Another great fix Harvey. That CV carb is a complicated bugger. The PZ carb is a much simpler design. For me simpler is always better. Feet Down Heads Up DD
Very good video, only thing is just a heads up for people that the pz30 might have to be rejetted before putting it on, secondary is off by a lot but you can get away with the primary. If you want a straighforward slap on and run carb I’d recommend the caltric aftermarket carb for quad runners, comes with correct jetting ($26-35 on Amazon). Oh and heads up, the caltric carb has a vacuum hookup for the mechanical fuel pump unlike the pz30.
I'm inclined to say go with the stock carb, but it sounds amazing with the pz30. Like you say, 1-2 horsepower isn't bothering you, I'd go ahead and slap the pz30 on the 2001. IF IT WORKS IT WORKS
I have never had an OEM Mikuni that I could get to work well consistently even on my old Harleys. About 15 years ago I paid big bucks for an OEM unit for my 250F quad runner because the one that was on it was impossible to tune. Luck would have it that even the brand new one was junk and it sat so long that it too now is not worth messing with. After seeing this, I think it will be getting a PZ30 however I want to find a real manifold adapter rather than fabricating one.
There has got to be a thermostat housing out there that would bolt right up to that flange lol! chasin my tail right now on a 89 250 ughh thanks for sharing
Did you ever receive an answer? In the video his fuel tank is at his handlebars so I would understand that he bypassed his fuel pump because of didn't have a vacuum connection. Please Let me know if you find Found anything out.
Hey harvey how do i bypass a neutral saftey switch on 2000 400ex and bypass start stop switch im getting power in the back but seem like not getting power to go to ignition..all wiring cdi etc. Is brand new
Runs good. If it only was a Honda! LOL! Did you see my latest acquisition? 1981 ATC 200. Really nice shape. Tried cleaning the carb but Its going to get a PZ27.
You can't claim anything negative about AFTERMARKET carburetors, unless you give specifics. No generalizations allowed here. Either you know, or you don't. Come on dude, you are better than that. It's very rare for me to not have a solution to all small gas engine problems. Almost nonexistent. So buck up and say the truth. Just like you help us, we help you. In other words, if you can't figure something out, you watch others on TH-cam. You need to support as many people that support you.
Hey twintwo, Perhaps I was not clear in my video and for that I am sorry, but, my experience is that the body of cheap after market carbs is made of a lower grade aluminum or is not polished as well as most oem carbs... That lack of finish and or lower quality aluminum makes them more prone to corrosion and they seem to need cleanings more frequently than the OEM stuff.... I probably use 20 to 30 knock off carbs per year, I like the pz27 and pz30 knockoffs, I don't like the Mikuni carbs, oem or clone.... Seems that the PZxx series is reliable, easy to rebuild, cheap, and easy to get... Thanks for Ur thoughts, feedback, watching, and commenting!!!

You have an impressive collection of projects on your yard.

Harvey, would have been helpful if you showed the throttle to carb conversion from oem carb to pz30 carb
Love your little gas tanks Harvey, so I just had to make one for myself, great idea....
That is a nice machine. Sounds good.

I used the pz 30 and cut a chineze 150 intake. works awesome, runs like a dream, almost ad good as a honda lol
I have a king quad 300 and the stock carbs are junk, definitely looking into a pz30 after seeing this video

Seems to work well Harvey Tc and stay safe buddy 👌✌

Harvey I personally like the pz 30 and pz 27 myself
DO those carbs have the vacuum line for the fuel pump?
Did you ever receive an answer?
In the video his fuel tank is at his handlebars so I would understand that he bypassed his fuel pump because of didn't have a vacuum connection.
Please Let me know if you find
Found anything out.
I'm running off the original suzuki gas tank. I believe if I keep it above a 1/4 tank it'll be ok
Hey harvey how do i bypass a neutral saftey switch on 2000 400ex and bypass start stop switch im getting power in the back but seem like not getting power to go to ignition..all wiring cdi etc. Is brand new

Hey Harvey does the that 250 have a fuel pump?
Harvey do u take fuel pump off a have pipe from tank to carb
my old carb and the clone wouldn't stop the gas, it ended up filing my crank case with gas
bro ian fitting whit all hoses where exactly where they going
Could I Purchase that flange?
I would buy one as well
Runs good. If it only was a Honda! LOL! Did you see my latest acquisition? 1981 ATC 200. Really nice shape. Tried cleaning the carb but Its going to get a PZ27.
why not just get the stock replacement carburetor for the trike? its basically a pz27 but actually suited for the machine
Btw great video. I agree with you.
If your good with a coat hanger you can put nearly any carb on there
Run or soak the carb in seafoam for a week.
Try some canned fuel at the end of the season. No alcohol.
Rebuild the old one, just sayin, the aftermarket one wont get same performance, just aayin, it just wont
Looks like you are in ky
No he’s in New York !
I hate the mikuni carburetors as well
first again
