  • I'm trying to help a coworker get his ATV running that was inoperable at purchase and has already been to one other facility for repair. This is my first ever Suzuki repair and it has a very "unique" fuel petcock valve and furry friend that has taken up residence. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

    Thank you for this Video. I have a 98' QuadRunner sitting in my yard for 2 years now, and I'm nearly positive this is the issue. Time to get to work. Thanks again.

    All Balls Racing sells a rebuild kit for the vacuum actuated fuel petcocks for around $26 on amazon. I had to put a kit in a 05 Vinson a couple weeks ago. Once the diaphragm goes bad it will either let fuel run through the vacuum line and flood the engine or the plunger inside of the valve will not open because the diaphragm is rock hard.

    Boy I got a good laugh when you lifted that seat lol. I ended up getting an aftermarket carb. Not all parts fit right but I was able to adapt it to fit with the right sized drill bit. There was a hose that was too big for the fuel inlet port. Made an adjustment in the idle screw and it’s been running better then it ever has been

    Currently trying to get my Honda 300 up and running again, replaced the Carburetor with Honda OEM , and after installing it, ran really good, just idled high, so I went to adjust the throttle adjustment screw, no change, so I didn’t want to touch the pilot screw, yet so I went back in and readjusted the throttle cable, and adjustment screw, so it would. Could not get it to start after, and haven’t figured it out yet.

      I have a 99 fourtrax and love it...super reliable....what was yours doing or not doing with the old carb...just a crank no start issue ?.....id probably check and make sure It wasn't sucking in air at the gasket where it connects at the cylinder head...start it up and take some brake cleaner and spray around the seal...you will know real quick if it's leaking....hope this helps.... thanks for watching!

      @@straightcutgeerz I just fixed it today, I thank the Lord. I just took the new carb back out, drained it , let the engine air out, inspected it to make sure it wasn’t flooded, and it wasn’t. Took carb, completely drained it, and took a air hose, and blew it out good. I let the machine air out, and the carb, then carefully reconnected everything back up. Made sure all my hoses were snug, and tight , carefully made my throttle cable adjustments, and hooked back up all the fuel lines, the the fuel on , waited a moment, pushed the primer pump just twice, then kickstarted it, before I could not get it to kickstart. Only took a couple tries, and it started running, was idling a little high, but I adjusted the throttle adjustment screw, and got it down to about normal. I may do some more, fine tuning, but it’s back up and running. I still have to find out what my electric start issue is, but I know the stator isn’t bad

    That’s crazy you don’t work on quads regular and you go to pull this one apart and you find a live one!

    So when modifying the petcock this way, do you lose functionality of the “reserve”?

    • @straightcutgeerz
      @straightcutgeerz  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Reserve should still function as intended...you may want to test before you head out on a big trip though ....just to make sure..but I do believe it should work...

    Looks like it could pull fuel thru valve diagram is bad thru vacuum port and flood it😊

  • @philliphall5198
    @philliphall5198 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would bypass it and put a lawnmower fuel cut off valve on it😊

    • @straightcutgeerz
      @straightcutgeerz  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea.....as far as I know he is still using it...so having a valve to shut fuel off would be best...

    Question, Having start issue and when you plug the Vacuum Ports to you leave the fuel select in prime or is it in the full on.

    • @straightcutgeerz
      @straightcutgeerz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the ports capped alone I still had issues with poor fuel delivery to the carb...once I removed the o-ring and spring inside the petcock is when my problem went away...as far as position of the fuel petcock (after the o-ring/spring removal) it would work in the "on" "res" or "pri" position with no issues that I could tell, but remember with the petcock internals taken out there is no "off" position. Fuel will flow through the petcock regardless of position and if there is a leak anywhere it will drain until the fuel tank is empty
