- #232. Turning A CHEAP Mold Into A Resin MASTERPIECE!
In todays video we take resin art to a super cheap fondant mold that many of us have probably never given a second look!
Using just some cat eye gel, I was able to really make this resin mold work to the best of its potential, the colors from just one ingredient are insane! This goes to show, even the cheapest of resin art molds can me used to create stunning pieces!
Also, by applying the gel to the resin totally takes any risk of sinking making this a super easy way for any resin art beginner to make stunning pieces!

A viewer just raised a great question asking if UV resin can be over cured, I thought I would pin my mistake 🙈. I was concentrating more on whether the lamp would cure the resin in the mold so hit it with all it had straight away, do not do this! 😂 I should have started lower then increased the power as the UV resin can get quite hot when exposed to that much light at once 🙈 Totally my bad! Sorry 🙈 I should know better 😂
Too much curing also causes your piece to become very brittle!
I too learned this the hard way. I kept curing thinking it would take the sticky residue away because I thought it was uncurled resin instead of residue from bad resin. We live and learn, right? Your intriguing experiments help me a BUNCH! I can’t afford to loose/waste what I do have. It has stopped me from attempting so many things I have in my mind to make! Now, the 1st thing I do is check your channel to know if you have tried it & succeeded. Btw- I REALLY LIKE the way you’re doing your videos now! It’s pleasant to see & hear you😃 It makes it feel almost like we’re friends doing our art together🤩
We all do things without thinking but it came out so great I don't see it as a mistake I think due to the darker mold the higher level may have been necessary ❤❤❤❤
That magnet effect is pretty amazing. These would make such cool fururistic cameo jewellery.

Make a mould out of them so you don't need to top coat every time. They are freakin' awesome.
100% may need to use epoxy though as some uv resins can cause cure inhibition with certain silicone, will definitely try though 😊 Top idea! Thank you 😊 🙏
Try putting chameleon liquid eyeshadow on a mold and then pour black resin over it. It comes out amazing. Looks kind of like scales. The liquid eyeshadow kinda separates on the mold. It's cool. Just a suggestion.

Love this one! Put black resin in the bezel so there's no gap and you don't have to put black on the back of the resin piece.

I have those flat back glue on bales that would work with those faces. Such a great idea! I love how these turned out. I got a UV nail lamp on a gooseneck stand I use in place of my handheld torch now. All I have to do is press a button. Got the idea from my nail lady when she was just doing a quick flash cure on my gel-x extensions, LOL.

Yes, the faces were creepy, but the effect was great! If you were to put the face into the oval bezel, I would fill the bezel with a coordinating color resin. BTW- CONGRATULATIONS. on reaching 80K! It doesn't surprise me, as you do the BEST experiments with resin. I hope you are enjoying your new studio. You obviously found the right lights for videos. Thank you!😊

As a fused glass artist, that clicking is a good thing. Kiln relays turning on and off. I've noticed it before and wondered if you had a kiln running!

Love the cat eye polish. I’ve been using it with my resin for a couple years now. My favorite is when I did this inside some small druzy molds back in June. I love how they look and my clients love looking at the effect. I just haven’t made videos yet.
You should do it! Get some small clear druzy molds. Mine look like chunks of cut stones. Jewelry pendant size. Start by using the polish inside the mold first and using the magnet. You can do a couple layers of the magnet polish. Then do a couple thin layers of black gel polish. Curing between each layer of course and I cure from both sides just to be sure it’s all cured. After that I filled the molds with uv resin.

If it doesn’t cure bung the mould in the freezer for a few hours it makes cleaning up so much easier.
You can actually buy the magnetic pigment powder that is used in the nail polish. I only know this because I used to make nail polish.
I would use a glue on nail for those heads.
They are bloody stupendous Prof, I wonder if there will ever be a video that doesn’t amaze me somehow I doubt it.

Many months ago, you mentioned taking a little break from filming do to some mental health concerns. A few of my favorite createtors have made simular comments. Thank you for sharing. "something" going on but it is possible to push on. My anxiety and self doubt are crippling at times. After watching you and a few others
and what you have created gives me hope to move past myself whenever possible.

Once you have the face the way you want it, you could make a mold of it so you have a shiny face mold. Very cool effect. 😊❤ Also, totally love the cab bail idea.

I was thinking you could have some fun with the eyeballs, when applying resin with toothpick around eyes they were looking a bit alien. Anyway good job, that's what rocks my boat with resin is effect, magnification and depth, love it. Thank you and good morning.

you’re not the only one that sees commonalities across people with faces I do the same thing. Maybe it’s an artist thing we subconsciously pick up on certain stylistic details that we find in common.- would be interesting to compare genetics to see if there are any differences or similarities based on what were unconsciously observing

I think that specific bezel could be bare behind it. But if you really wanted something you could use some sand or quartz chips to contrast the the face. Thank you for the tutorial on cleaning up after sanding. I used my rotary polish tool and it made the surface matte and I freaked out (I've only made 10 pieces). The biggest lesson I learned is to take my time and avoid issues cause it takes 3 x longer to fix them.
If you planned on using that mold a lot it's a perfect example of something to recast after you fixed it also you can make multiple positives for the new mold.
