  • #235. You Can MELT This Resin MOLD Over And Over AGAIN!
    In todays Resin Art video we try something commonly known as Resin Clay! It may have been around for a long time but this is my first experience of using this stuff!
    In this episode, we try the clay to see if we can create molds for resin use, that is, after all, what this stuff is made for.... mold making! I wanted to test with both UV resin and epoxy and I'm very happy with both, I think an inlay video is definitely needed! I have some crazy ideas already!
    I'm blown away by how easy this stuff is to use and how fast you can make things with it, especially for us resin artists! We can essentially make duplicates of certain resin molds and never need to buy a new one again.... Ever!
    Please use safely as hot water is required!

    You might like something called the Amazing Re-Melt. It's a microwaveable mold that turns into a liquid after being popped into the micorwave. It's got a much more viscous consistency compared to plastic clay and since it pours when melted like rubber silicone, you can get more fine details or even make two part molds if needed.
    Only issue is that it's not vert taut when cooled, so the mold can deform after a few casts, but you can always melt it down again.

      Yes, I contacted a well known company but they didn't want me to promote their product, very strange, makes me wonder what they are hiding 😂 Apparently many of those types are limited to a certain amount of uses.

    Daniel, could the "film" possibly be micro fibers from the paper towel used to dry the mold material? Perhaps try using a lint free cloth for the drying next time and see if it makes a difference.

    It kind of looks like it's capturing the texture of your gloves and that's why it's not coming out so clear I don't know though just what I thought I could see I could be wrong. Also maybe if you put it on something cold when you put the resin in there to help with that thermal reaction to not melt it maybe that would work too.

  • @Leena79
    @Leena79 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Ok, now I'm tempted to try this, too. Mold silicone is so expensive to usd for something you're not necessarily planning on using a hundred times, and this could be the answer. I still think this isn't far from hot glue, but since I'm yet to try putting my glue sticks in hot water, I can't prove myself wrong or right. Either way, your experiments are fascinating and inspiring.

    Just stumbled on your channel Daniel, some cool stuff. I did have a concern about you using a tissue to dry with. It’s renowned for dropping fibres and it may be why your mould made with the glass had all those tiny marks on it in removal. Try using a hair dryer or heat blower on low perhaps? Roll it super flat? Just throwing ideas out there. I think I’m gonna get some and have a go as there’s all sorts of applications I can see for it. Thanks for posting.

    You're kinda ingenious Daniel!! So this is like wax melt 🫠 hmm the film should be removable with heat and some baby wipes or alcohol wipes I would think if you give it a go let me know how it goes I'd love to know if you was to take and heat it with a heat gun to it's melting temp if it would remove that film. It's a wax like film so their has to be a way to remove wax films I'm gonna do some research on that but I do believe a heat gun and an alcohol wipe would remove the film I love that you did this because if we can find a way to keep the film off it could be really good to have. How about spraying the mold with mold release or alcohol or even silicone oil before adding the resin? Just thinking as I go here you definitely have me intrigued ❤❤❤❤🤗

    I think the stuff you bought is more geared towards being molded rather than being turned into a mold. 🤔 I know there's a different brand that takes details really well because it was actually created to mostly be used for temporary molds but I can't remember the brand name. 😵‍💫 I might have to search my YT videos to see if I can find it in with the videos of people who make miniatures because not knowing the name is going to really bug me now. 😅 I think the stuff only comes in one color though. 🤨 My brain is telling me that it was a bright blue or green. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    Thanks for sharing your experiments though. 😁👍 It's interesting to see how it works. I think if you're going to use it as a mold it might be better with the thin, painted layer of UV resin you mentioned, with regular resin or actually best with an epoxy putty. 🤔

I don't think I'll be making jewellery out of it, but I will try the Uv topcoat that I mentioned on your last video with this stuff, and I am going to get the clear and try colouring it, see what happens!
