Browns were on their way until the disaster of '95 happened. A number of national pundits thought the Browns had an excellent chance to reach the SB in '95 and the team started out strong. Belichick was already proving himself to be a great HC in '93. The Browns could've added Ogden and Ray Lewis in '96 if Modell's financial recklessness could've been controlled. The Ravens quickly benefited from the move.

Not really. When you don’t know the score or down it makes you focus more if your a real student of the game. The score, down, yardline and time clock are more embedded in your brain when you have to pay attention to every play instead of seeing it all the time. It’s like driving with a GPS all the time. You never really learn the roads as good is when your relying on your brain to remember everything. I can put on a game from the 80s and remember it much better than I can a modern game because I watched the game much more focused then. No talking in the room and no answering phone calls.

@@whataboutrob442 Yeah, I think Browns fans know a thing or two about Belichick...the Browns D in 93-94 was at least as good as any BB has had in New England...but Bill was still - and is still - reliant on good QB play to win. This game - the defense played great, but Kosar provided the big play spark. As he always did, even at this stage of his career, when he was practically a cripple...in no small part thanks to Belichick's horrible offensive scheme and inability to draft properly.
Belichick is a great coach, but that genius is flawed. Brownstown knows this well. What about Rob? Not so much.

Incidentally I was binge watching the original Fugitive series as the Cavaliers were bringing Cleveland its first major league title in 52 years. After I finished watching the show for the day, I turned on ABC to see it all unfold.
I finished the series on June 22. After hearing William Conrad say "Tuesday September 5th the day the running stopped" I commented "more like Wednesday June 22nd" which in fact was the day I finished The Fugitive, watching all 120 episodes over a 15 day span, 8 per day. I then had a conversation with my father on the finale's significance.

The Fugitive, the original version aired on ABC. That year, the first and last episodes aired on NBC to celebrate the movie's release. NBC was later the first non-premium network to air the movie, doing so in 1996.
On football-related notes, the 49ers and Browns are the only two surviving AAFC teams. This game was the last time the Browns won on ABC (at least until it starts airing NFL regularly again), last MNF win until 2008, last primetime win on a broadcast network until 2019, and last win on the NFL's flagship primetime package until 2020

This was the only interconference home game between 1990-95 to sell out.
Because it was on MNF, WJW didn't televise this game, but rather WEWS, one of two flagship stations of Scripps, did. WJW was not able to air any of the interconference home games played on Sunday afternoon due to the NFL blackout rules. It wouldn't be until 1999 that WJW televised a Browns game for the first time since 1989, the first ever Browns game against the Panthers, who launched in 1995.
In 1994, WJW, at the behest of their owners at the time, moved from CBS to Fox, which was a byproduct of the NFC package making the same move that season.

Art Modell MOVED and established a new franchise in Baltimore with the players who had FORMERLY played for the Cleveland Browns. THAT was the agreement which the NFL was forced to comply with by intense pressure from the city of Cleveland, Mayor Michael White and a Congressional hearing on the matter! The city of Cleveland FOUGHT HARD for their team and was rewarded with their proud franchise, the team's history, traditions, colors and logo. ALL of it REMAINED in and with the city of Cleveland. It DID NOT move, it was placed on a 3 year hiatus and resumed in 1999, AND CONTINUES to this day! The Cleveland BROWNS of 1999-2020 are the same CLEVELAND Browns of 1945-95. GO BROWNS!

The '93 49ers were kind of an aberration during their two decades of dominance - they weren't good on the road and didn't win the close games. They were actually 1-6 in games decided by 10 points or less and counting playoffs only 4-5 on the road, completely the opposite of what that era's San Francisco teams were known for.
