We hear so much about the 1990 MNF game (10-1 vs 10-1), but this game was 9-2 vs 9-2 and was just as compelling in a different way.

First, this '89 team was the best I ever saw (been watching since 1981, I missed the Packers and the Steelers). Second, this was the start of a historical run for this 49ers team. They would win the next 17 games they played. Including a record-setting postseason run where their composite score was 126-26.

I remember this game back in November 1989. Great win Go 49ers!!! This was a great Rivalry between both of these teams from 84 through 93. The 49ers and Giants won combined 5 Super Bowls in 7 seasons (1984-1990).
Later on MNF in December 11,1989 the 49ers would come from behind and beat the Rams 30-27 in Anaheim.

Giants were getting the Niners after a loss. Niners had lost to GB at home the week before. That just adds to the difficulty of the game. Giants hung tough with them but Niners pulled it out. 89 Giants were good 12 4 division champs. They would’ve given San Fran a much better game than Rams did in NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game. But they choked vs Rams in playoffs They still would’ve lost cause 89 Niners were best team and an all time team

      Chris,
The 89 49ers is a really good team but I think the 84 team is better. Joe was healthier and mobile in 84 and the team defense was one of the best ever. The 84 49ers would have gone undefeated that season. I remember their lone loss to the Steelers was a missed short field goal at the end of the game.

To this day, Anderson's touchdown in OT hurts. The Giants always matched up well with the Niners and it would've been a much better championship game. In '89 the Giants played with a chip on their shoulder because everyone was expecting Philly or Washington to lead the NFC East.

Even though we lost the 1990 playoff game, everybody knew that SF was the better team. We lost on a trick play and the NY team played like a bunch of criminals. They were out to hurt the 49ers, especially Joe Montana. If I was George Siefert, I would order someone to put the helmet onto the knees of Lawrence Taylor or Leonard Marshall while they were walking back to the sideline. I am convinced that the NY criminals had the plan to hurt Joe all along. In fact, that happened twice and almost knock out Joe for good.

In 1992, if Joe Montana was the starting QB for the 49ers, the Cowboys and the way overrated Jimmy Johnson would be doomed. If we can manipulate time and pit the 1989 49ers against the 1992 Cowboys, the score would be somewhere around 35-17.

The arrogant and overrated Jimmy Johnson won 2 SBs because they tricked the Vikings and the 49ers was stupid enough to trade Charles Haley to the cowboys. None of that matter if the 49ers coaching staff started Joe Montana instead of Steve the choker Young, the Cowboys would not have won in 1992 and 1993.

      t flo,
I suspect Belicheat started cheating when he was with the Giants. In the 1990 regular season, the 49ers moved the ball against the Giants with ease. Then the playoff game, the Giants defense was so good to a point I think they knew what the 49ers were going to do. Similar to Bellicheat, the Giants team was pack with criminals. They were out to hurt Joe Montana. However, the 49ers should have won that game and went on to win their 3rd SB in 3 years.

Some of the reason the Niners scored 34 points in the 89 game: five turnovers, a bad penalty that allowed the 49ers to kick the go ahead field goal and a late turnover in their own end that led to the game sealing touchdown. That being said the 89 Niner team was absolutely dominant. Also, in the 90 regular season game the Niners only scored seven points and did not move the ball easily. You can check the game. Some guy named Lawrence Taylor had an injury in the 89 game as well. I heard he was pretty good.
