I still get the feeling the Rams were a much more exciting team to watch, bar the Conference game of course. Niners' passing game was boring in comparison.
Machine is the perfect way to explain them. What they did to that Denver team in the super bowl was unbelievable and that was a good Broncos team with a young Elway

As a Rams fan from way back then, I agree. This era in NFL football belonged to the Niners and Joe Montana/Steve Young. But also as a Rams fan appreciate that in the last 27 years since that era, the Rams have been to 4 Super Bowls, won 2, are defending NFL champs, and are about to do it again (yes!), whereas the Niners have been to one Superbowl and choked after celebrating too early lol. Even worse than losing to New England in '86 on a "Hail Mary" with :00 time left. Jim Everett's debut softened that blow. After it was over, I sat there stunned, not believing it. The Rams dominated the 49ers for more than 3Qs. So much so nearly all the 20K 49ers fans had left in humiliating fashion. One guy in our section stayed but was convinced to turn his sweatshirt inside out. The TO at the 1 yd. line on a botched snap when they were about to make it 34-17 with 9 mins. was the turning point. A few years later Jim Burt admitted laying a big loogey on the ball just before that play. Smith's snap never made it off the ground. By rule the play never started but no official is ever going to see that. Up 10 you can't turn the ball over 2x in the 4thQ, miss tackles and allow 90 YAC on one play. In the end this loss meant nothing to the Rams because they di get another shot in the NFC Chmp. Game. That one didn't go so well either. Threw my television control on our tiled living room ground after John Taylor's last touchdown. Rams were still ahead, but somehow knew that that was the beginning of the Rams blowing this game. Dad got upset with me for throwing the control, so he yelled at me to go upstairs. Didn't see the rest of the game but, as was anticipated, Rams did lose. Something about already having watched the Rams for a decade up to this point gave me the feeling of how this one was going to turn out.

@@jasonpdsi It's been about 3 years since I tried posting a game to daily motion. I may have to post games by each quarter instead of one file. At least that's the way I remember from the last time.
Awesome Paul! In my humble opinion; both John Taylor and Roger Craig should be in Canton. At the time, Taylor was a major threat at any time. He has the same numbers as Len Swan.
after walsh left, under seifert, the niners often looked methodical on offense...like this game...not one first down pass in almost three quarters...walsh was such an unpredictable offensive genius...montana really sucked the first half of this game...you could see young frenzied at the mouth to go in...everett totally outplayed him...then john taylor reigned supreme...
I remember watching this. I was wondering if the Rams were for real and it looked like they were going to blow the 49ers out. Instead, that 17-3 lead, and just about to go up 24-3, would be the peak for the Rams of this era. They would basically go away after this.
Anyone ever figure what happened with that snap? It never got off the ground. It wasn't raining and Burt(?) was all-pro, right? How did it happen? Was it fate? The Rams got off to a fiery start, then the fire died down, then the fire was extinguished by a tidal wave by the name of John Taylor.
hi buddy thanks for this game. could you post 1986 mnf 49ers giants or 1989 mnf 49ers giants to drive google? if not i understand. i hope you and your family have a happy thanksgiving:)
John Taylor was like a Lynn Swan or some other all-star, super-star. He just played on the same team as Rice, otherwise he would have been a household name. Yet, and I do not know for certain, but John's personality was so low key, he might have been happier out of the lime light. Anyone ever hear an interview about this? JT was one of the all-time greats in my book. If not for Rice, would have been much higher in the record books.
for the haters out there , just so you know, in the 1980's the Los Angeles Rams had 46 pro bowl selections with 21 different players. ( most in the NFL )
I can't believe what Dan Deardorf said in the opening, that in 1989 "Joe Montana was having the best season any QB had ever had". Don't get me wrong, Montana was one of the best ever but this game was played in week 14 of 1989 & Montana had thrown 22TDs for the season at that point. He finished the season with 26TDs. I know he missed 3 games but still. Best season that "any" QB had ever had? I have 2 words: Dan Marino.
@pdumpsterful I would've liked to seen how many super bowls Marino would've won if he were the QB for that 49ers team instead of Montana. I'm positive it would've been more than 4. No disrespect meant to Montana.
@@The_Magic_Man_Is_Here Marino should have won the 84 superbowl. The pass was perfect but Wright got lucky with the interception. No question that Marino doesn't get the respect he is due. One of the greatest

@@AZDC99 Just saying but not disrespect the Redskins. I think the 1990 season without Joe Montana, the 49ers missed the playoffs altogether. The Vikings won against the 49ers in the year 1987. Redskins, the 2nd best team in the 1980s.

Watching this game I see @ least 15 times a penalty would be called in today’s NFL. So you can’t even compare Joe Montana to Tom Brady. They played different sports.
As a longtime Rams fan thanks for posting i'm just happy to see some of my favorite players on the field together again guys like Flipper Anderson, Kevin Greene, Slater, Wilcher, Strickland, Ellard, Newsome, Leroy Irvin and the great Jerry Gray Go Rams!
the 1980's Rams were a solid unit who always gave the Niners a hard time...but this was probably the best Rams team in that decade and easily the 2 best team in football that season..
32:48 these announcers knew their business... « you throw a slant to Taylor and you let him run for a big play » he did exactly that in great fashion not once but twice during that game... thx for the upload !
Jerry Rice was the clear MVP of this game. Some of the best downfield blocking I’ve ever seen on Taylor’s two 90+ yard TD’s.
John Taylor, "The Other Receiver".
The Other Goat...
Michaels: 'From Santa for the 49ers to stay in this game.'
Montana: 'More like now I have a machine gun HO-HO-HO!'
🤣
Wow. I don't have a high quality version of this one. Thanks for sharing. As a 49ers fan, this is my favorite victory over the Rams. BTW Richard, I'm guessing you meant to say "first meeting in San Francisco". Since this was the game that took place in Anaheim.
Charles Haley made a clean hit on Jim Everett. One of the worst penalty calls you will see.
Another great post by Richard! Thanks for all your awesome posts throughout the year Richard, I and many more fans sincerely appreciate your substantial time and effort so we can all enjoy these games. Happy New Year friend.
Thank you old school eddie for watching the games on my channel. They are more games I have from the glory years, but the NFL keeps blocking them. Happy New Year to you as well my friend!
Richard, have you looked into posting these on dailymotion?
@@jasonpdsi It's been about 3 years since I tried posting a game to daily motion. I may have to post games by each quarter instead of one file. At least that's the way I remember from the last time.
One of three 49ers, Rams game played on Monday Night. 1989, 1990, 1991.
Al Michaels has been around for SO long...
I was like fours years old here.....
The best MNF announcing team ever

@@vudujl83 remember this like it was yesterday. I didn't record it. Just remembered.
Awesome Paul! In my humble opinion; both John Taylor and Roger Craig should be in Canton. At the time, Taylor was a major threat at any time. He has the same numbers as Len Swan.
I was at this game. Still the worst loss I ever experienced as a die hard Rams fan. Even worse than the SB losses.
Awesome video
The only team anyone did not want to have to play in the 89 playoffs was the 9ers.
Tragic ending for Rams
So much better than today’s NFL.
This game goes great with a side of TECMO Super Bowl.
after walsh left, under seifert, the niners often looked methodical on offense...like this game...not one first down pass in almost three quarters...walsh was such an unpredictable offensive genius...montana really sucked the first half of this game...you could see young frenzied at the mouth to go in...everett totally outplayed him...then john taylor reigned supreme...
Joe Montana n1!
And they did meet in the playoffs in the 49ers annihilated them and Everett was never the same after that
What an amazing game thank you, thoroughly enjoyed this! would you happen to have 2006 49ers vs Seahawks, week 15?
I remember watching this. I was wondering if the Rams were for real and it looked like they were going to blow the 49ers out. Instead, that 17-3 lead, and just about to go up 24-3, would be the peak for the Rams of this era. They would basically go away after this.
They had one more chance in the NFC Championship game but fell short.
@@DanielSong39 Yup. That was a good team that doesn't get talked about much. To the winners go the spoils so they say.
Hate to ask if you have opening Monday 1990?
49ers vs Saints with the MNF intro?
I'd love to see that game too
1:37:07 "That's not roughing the quarterback!"
It is today. Smh.
Yup. That call was an absolute joke. Total BS
RIP #91.
1:40:36 The Rams owner comes out on the field and congratulates the team leading 27-10 in the 4th quarter 😁
hank williams intro, the best intro
Ronnie Lott @ 53:44 lol daaaamn
the broadcat trio, clearly a football version of the three stooges!
Only question I have is why is ron browns full name on the back of his jersey?
They had 2 R Browns. Ron Brown and Richard Brown

Any Houston Oilers games from the '88-'89 season that aren't posted already?
for the haters out there , just so you know, in the 1980's the Los Angeles Rams had 46 pro bowl selections with 21 different players.
( most in the NFL )
No Super Bowls though. Really a meaningless stat
@@thefrase7884 put your money where your mouth is. if it was your team, you'd think it was a cool stat. don't pretend.
I have 2 words:
Dan Marino.
Best season =quarterback rating. It was the best up to that point
Dan Marino was a great quarterback but will never get the credit he deserves because he didn't win any super bowls
@pdumpsterful
I would've liked to seen how many super bowls Marino would've won if he were the QB for that 49ers team instead of Montana.
@@The_Magic_Man_Is_Here Montana wasn't a great passer. There were way better pure passers than Montana but Montana was a great quarterback!
What song is that playing at 1:3:10
Best regular season 49er game ever. Cofer the Choker was showing signs of future problems. Single handily kept Niners out of the 91 playoffs.
If there had been a two point conversion in 1989-1993, Cofer would have never seen the field
Snake,
Steve Young didn't do good for the 49ers either. Steve Bono won most of the games. If the 49ers got into the postseason, they would have won that SB instead of Washington.
@@benthekeeshond545 Get some respect FOR the Redskins. It's such a cheap answer, YOURS, but the fact IS that we won three Super Bowls, and some of you guys just can't deal with it. It's not my fault you couldn't beat the Vikings, which we did TWICE that year
@@AZDC99
Just saying but not disrespect the Redskins. I think the 1990 season without Joe Montana, the 49ers missed the playoffs altogether. The Vikings won against the 49ers in the year 1987. Redskins, the 2nd best team in the 1980s.
Hey Richard I know you have 89 niners at eagles but I also know it always gets taken down ....if you ever decide to try and upload that 1 again I would be so grateful
TreyBear I was at that game. Even Eagles fans were cheering as Montana destroyed them.
Christian Boddie that’s awesome! Well not that you ever decided to set foot in the dump known as the vet...but that you witnessed greatness up close like that
I pray to the football Gods that the NFL lets me post it eventually. It's a shame they won't post it to TH-cam themselves. Happy New Year to you in 2020.
@@survivor5044 This game was up about 2 yrs.? ago great quality but I think it's gone.
I have that game on a VHS tape sitting on my shelf right now lol
The JT game!
If Eric Dickerson remained with the Rams they would’ve been a much stiffer challenge to the 49ers in that division in the late 80’s.
Man my heart was breaking when Eric left I was in total disbelief Jim was a strong arm but needed Superman with him to compliment Robinson's run game of potent rushing attack...😔✌️🤙❄️😔
@@milotorres6894 Yes. They would’ve been a force to reckon with. But because the Rams organization foolishly didn’t want to pay him, he bolted.
3rd and 17…run Dickerson
So did Taylor get the game ball?
The 1989 49ers outscored the Rams 50-6 in the final 5 quarters of the season.
Hey Richard would you be able to get the MNF game between LA and the niners in 1990?
I may have this game but I need to do some searching.
@@survivor5044 cool that'll be great I know that this ranks in the top ten of best mnf games ever but the 1990 season is when I really started to remember and comprehend what was going on, I was 10 years old so that's why I wanna see that one
I forgot that Charles Hailey got tossed in this game. That roughing call on Jim "Don't call me Chris" Everett was weak even by today's standard. Completely ridiculous.
I think a Dream matchup would have been the 1989 SF 49ers vs 1992 Cowboys
Which team would Charles Haley play for?
@@docgeri ……a half for each team
Taylor had alot of big plays across from Rice !!
1989 was the first year of Hank, right?
Yes. He won Emmy’s for it the next 3 or 4 years. RIP Hank Williams Jr.
By chance Richard would you have the Week 5 1989 MNF game, Raiders @ Jets, Art Shell's first game as HC?
I have this game. Someone may have posted it to TH-cam at one point and was taken down?
