The Roman Catholic Church also used to teach that people could affect purgatory time by making donations to the church. Honor the perfect life of Jesus Christ and put away your idols! Did you know that the Vatican ordered priests to abandon their wives and children in the 1800' s in Europe, or give up their clergy position? Hundreds and hundreds of men chose the " status of being a priest" over their wives and children. That's just evil. And that's how all the " celibate priest" stuff began, which led to homosexual behavior and child molestation being rampant in the modern Catholic church. God did not EVER command church leaders to be unmarried. The corrupt Vatican made that idea up.
