I'm going to try this but replace the extra beef with beef stock instead, since it's only added for the extra beef flavor
I lost it when you said "Ok so we're going to make kickass breakfast" XD
I thought there is a dish really called kickass breakfast
David Lee Whelp, now’s the chance to do so!
Made this tonight. Came out pretty yummy. Thanks!
Thank you Runny! This Gyudon was soooooooo oishi!
Now I just need to learn how to slice beef more thin!
My favorite part is how he repeats things until they sound right. Is it bad I can see his face in my brain while he's doing this?
Runny, stop being so cute. It's getting hard to be mean anymore. When I try, you're in my mind being adorbs.
I love that you called your friend and had him eat Gyudon at the end. So funny! He eats like a Japanese business man in a hurry.
I miss Yoshinoya now that I moved back to the USA!!
This looked really really good, I'll look into your other recipes as well.
@SouthernSky
Thanks for the info :) Very helpful for people who can't find thinly sliced beef :)
Haha...this was actually a good cooking video. I applaud you for knowing how to cook. The dish looks delicious and I will try to make it. Thanks.
great!!! I love your sense of humor!!! and this dish looks really delicious!
wowwww I love gyudon. Looks incredible!
I love anything that is served over rice
Super! I try this out as soon as I find some thin sliced beef. Thank you!
Kick ass breakfast! * plays classical music in the background *
Your friend eats like Goku before a tournament.. O___O
there is a reason why he eat like that too
I went to Japan last summer and went to Yoshinoya quite often. Maybe I will try this some day. Thank you!
The slang means " Wow that woke me up" or "that is filling and has made me alert" so yes this fits it well Tako! Looks great!
thx for the link to daichen, im always too lazy to find people and i hear him everywhere, but this is the first time any has sent me a link :)
Another masterpiece of runny. Got my paycheck tomorrow, that's definitly worth a try!!
But all your recipes are worth it, so i'm not sure wich i'm going to make!
LOL!! That looks delicious! It looks similar to an Asian beef bowl I used to eat, and it was delicious. Thank you.
Oh, I miss the Yoshinoya Gyudon with Salmon in Sapporo...so good.
I substituted the white wine with India Pale Ale and it was fantastic!
dude... you made me SOOOO hungry!!! it looked delicious!! Congrats!
Made this for supper during a massive thunderstorm outside, lost power at the minute it was ready, pretty nice experience to eat gyudon in the dark watching lightnings :) and oh btw I used maple syrup (I'm canadian eh) instead of caramel it tasted pertty awesome
Kick ass breakfast as in amazing/extraordinarily great breakfast. I'd still eat this for breakfast so thumbs up as always!
I'm going to try this! I think your the best runny!!!
I went to a very small traditional Japanese restaurant in Boston. it only had 2 small tables and a few chairs in the corner of a building. I had never tried Japanese food before. First thing i've ever had was Gyudon. I've tried to make it myself but i could not figure out how. Thanks for this video!
My favorete recepe Gyudon..i love des food when i was living in Singapore i ate them veryday!!
I love your videos! You make it more fun to watch, and you are so funny, hehe. Keep up with the great videos!
Man seriously this is waaaay better kick ass breakfast than traditional coffee and donut! Thanks!
Thank you RunnyRunny999! I look forward to more of your cooking videos!
Thank you for making these videos :D im SOOO glad i found ur channel
When I was in Japan, I remember ordering Gyudon in a tiny little restaurant in Tokyo near Nakano Broadway :) It was so delicious! Now I can make some for my friends here in Canada!
When you chill the meat before you slice it, don't actually freeze it all the way. Put it in the freezer until it's harder and very cold, but not frozen. Chilling it does make thin slicing much easier, but if it freezes, ice crystals will penetrate the meat cells and make it dry (yucky) when you cook it.
Lol poor runny! Kickass breakfast means AWESOME BREAKFAST! GREAT BREAKFAST!
A good tip to make sure your beef is not tough is to cut against the grain (across the fibres of the meat). When you slice it as thin as in this recipe, it'll almost fall apart, it's so tender. ~
OMG i sometimes eat like Dai when im really hungry ! i can eat a bowl of rice and that beef thing my mom cooks in like 1 minute !
I remembered eating at Yoshinoya, in every Japanese city I visited. Cheap, filling, and very yummy! :)
I'll definitely recreate this tonight! Arigatou
I'm making this tonight. For those who can't find shabushabu beef or don't have knife skills, try looking for "chip beef steak"
Its thinly sliced and pretty cheap. I got enough for one or two servings for $1
Great! Now I can eat Yoshinoya gyudon anytime I want
hungry at 5 am... cuz I had nothing better to watch and or made myself hungry for no reason :D
I love your recipe for gyudon. I made it today it was DELICIOUSE!!!!!:)
Ahhhh. It looks fantastic! I really should try and make this!
Oh my GOD!
I Miss Yoshinoya Gyudon so much!!!
Tokumori onegai shimasu!!!!!
That looked really good! I want to try it for sure.
"Kickass breakfast" includes sake, red and white wine. Kickass breakfast indeed!
Now! that's a KIckass breakfast right there ...instead of scrambled egg ,donut etc :)
i realized your comment is 2 months old but please reply me~
which part in the world have donut for breakfast?? that sounds AWESOME!!! and it might or might not have blown my mind a little... 8D
thx in advance!!
jupitar
+Joanna Soo. In the United States, Americans love to eat sweet things for breakfast, donuts, pancakes with syrup, French toast with maple syrup etc. Not everyday of course, but often for a special breakfast on Saturday or Sunday
@Daichen
Your music ''Punk_fun'' at the end gives this video entertainment :) Thanks for helping 鼻くそ!
I live in Los angeles and when he said yoshinoya i was like "really tastes like the beef bowls there?" i gotta learn how to cook this!!!
This reminds me of Korean Bulgogi. I don't think I've ever seen anyone use red and white wine with Sake before. Not to mention apple juice. Very creative, runny! I will try this recipe. It looks so good. My mouth is watering right now. Dai is quite funny, too. ;-) By the way to tenderize the beef, marinade the beef in lemon/lime flavored soda.
@OfLaSoul
If so, I wouldn't worry too much. I heard it's something like high protein breakfast. Thanks for the info!
@vancityguy Thinly sliced ribeye is ideal for this use. You want the beef to have a high fat content, but it is not necessary to buy expensive quality meat. Many Japanese grocery sell sliced meat exactly meant for this purpose.
Hooly crap i cant believe he just showed us how to make Yoshinoya beef bowl! thank you so much i will try this recipe verry soon.
I think it totally makes sense runny, I'd eat this for breakfast any day! ^_^
runnyrunny, kick ass is another way of saying awesome
haha awesome video, very good sense of humor and delicious looking food. :D
i love how he says milimeter "miriliter" HAHA you're just epic
a kick ass breakfast is plainly a really good breakfast
I should keep sake for cooking, but I keep drinking it. lol. Thank you for this great recipe, Taro. *It's easier to slice the beef thinly if you put it in the freezer for an hour first.
Vinnhuy, it's a different flavor than bulgogi which is delicious, too! Thanks for another great recipe!
also alot of butcher shops in the U.S. can and will slice it thinlike you need it you have to tell them that you want it sliced as this as say prochito ham and it will be very close to thickness of beef bowl
Thank you, thank you! I have SO missed youshinoya's beef bowl! I fixed this for my friends and husband and we all were in heaven! yes, I fiddled a bit because we like more broth, but that's minor!
There is no wrong time to eat gyudon! If this tastes anything like yoshinoya or sukiya i will be trying this recipe really soon.
love the epic music at the back!!! :D
Your friend's way of finishing up the bowl is exactly like all guys in the yoshinoya near my my place. Every time I go to yoshinoya, I am always amazed about how fast they eat :) May be because I'm a girl, so i eat slower :D But so awesome to look at everyone eating with lighting speed :P
Good job Taro, it looks great!
I'll try it ^^
Kinnikuman Go Go Muscle is why Im here...So thats Gyudon? Looks great and delicious. Yum!
You can also add beaten egg at the end to then it would be even more like a breakfast
btw. cooking wine is not in liquor store its just in normal aisle in supermarket so you should be able to buy it fine too (& there's no age limit as "ssc70402" said too )
This looks so good!! Imma make some.
I'm gonna make this for dinner tomorrow. I wasn't able to find that super thinly sliced beef at the regular grocery store here, so I got some skirt steak instead and sliced it as thin as I could. Hopefully it will turn out good.
Also, if you check in the related vids of another gyudon recipe, someone claims that Yoshinoya uses/used MSG in their beef, which, if true, could explain why the meat is so nice and tender
the best beef you can use is brisket P.E for this meal..because it has some amount of fats around 20%......brisket is the best thin sliced beef....for asian noodle soups etc
I tried making this and it was delicious.
Great video as always!
hahahahah thts best ! How to eat Gyudon! Thanks for showing us the recipe.. Pls post more.. I love japanese food :)
Now you made me hungry again! Damnit! :P If I wasnt locked inside(that one might need some explaining haha) I would make or try to make each of these meals your prepare, allways looks so good! Keep it up!
if you freeze the meat before you cut it you can cut it much thinner
DUDE THATS KICK ASS :D looks so yummy *drooling over keyboard* :)
I'm so happy you used 'garnish!' i squeeled when you said it. I think the reason you may have said 'gamish' was because letter r + letter n ( rn ) looks very similar to just the letter m. I noticed when I told you what garnish was you responded with Garmish (with an m). i assumed it was just a mistake so i didn't correct you! oops!
this looks yummy! I dont think i could ever slice beef that thin, though. I wouldn't even know what part of beef to us!
You can make a really amazing gyudon sauce from just soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and grated ginger if you don't have all the rest of the ingredients!
Delicious!
@ChineseSe7en You simmer the first (smaller) amount of beef to extract it's flavors into the liquids & make a broth, very much the way one would simmer bones to make a stock. This takes a while, but you don't use this beef in the finished Gyudon. You discard it, or use it for something else, like fried rice. The second (larger) portion of beef is meant for eating, & you only cook this for five minutes because you want it to be tender. Over cooking it can make it too tough for Gyudon.
a tip. to slice a beef thin - just lightly freeze up to 30mins and then get your sharpest knife and cut into thin strips ;)
Mouth is watering just listening to the ingredients *q*
I dunno Runny, this seems like a pretty kick ass breakfast to me. I'd eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner lol.
Ittadakimasuuuuu, ..
Hohohoho I really like the way Daichen eat those Gyudon, :D
@MCWaterman Awesome! Thanks for the response!
Damn good idea! That's my favorite all time Japanese breakfast! I ate that like almost everyday! XD
OMG THE END SCARED ME LOL!!
Runny, i made this!!! it was pretty good. i didn't know i was capable of cooking gyudon
i couldn't stop laughing from the beginning to the end because i just couldn't get over
"Kik Ahss breakfast" i probably watched that part about 20 times
thanks for making me laugh all the time, you;'re awesome dude
where is that one video where you practice your R's and L's?
i gave up trying to look for that video on your channel
just tell me the title of the video or what you were cooking
thank you Runny
@scarletwater
へ~知らなかったです。ありがとうございます。勉強になりました。確かに朝にはちと重いですよね。愛嬌ということで。
Awesome fast guy at the ending XD
hey I would totally eat this for breakfast.
I kept watching this video because your accent made it credible :)
u made me and my wife hungry lol...
If you want to recreate the tenderness, don't let the pot come to a boil like it did. Cook the meat at a super super low heat. Maybe even in the oven. This will be similar to a braise & *should* give you meat that's more tender.
Hey Taro! Just woke up right now.... Good idea for eating gyudon for breakfast - how come I didn't think about that. XD Maybe I'll have some for breakfast. I like you recipe better than mine - it's more authentic. :) Take care!
@PointlessVidsInc Go to an asian market, or ask a butcher to slice some beef on the meat slicer. The same slicer they use for deli meats & salami, pastrami, etc. What kind of beef? Whatever you want. Round is good, but ribeye is my favorite.
buy .. frozen meat slicer .. and you can slice the beef like a shbu shbu or more thiner
