    Try using your drone as a reference point. From the cabin, fly out and place it in a hover above where you think the saw may have landed. Then hike down with the controller and try to get underneath it. Then send the drone back to its “Home” to land.

    Always enjoy these videos of Super Woman Michelle showing us what hard work can produce. As an asides as anyone noticed the beauty of the old stone retaining wall that supports the road. Those individual stones are HUGE and laid so beautifully well. I used to do stonemason work. It’s backbreaking stuff for sure. In case you are curious those holes randomly place in the lower wall are for drains and are called weep holes.

    Hi Michele, the easiest thing would be to make a small fence below the cabin, mesh wire or something similar. It's more work, but then nothing can fall down the cliff.

    • @tommy..980
      @tommy..980 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michele… Man you’re working your as* off !!! That’s a lot of work for two people let alone yourself.. I’ll put in my two cents first on the back of the cabin you have the right idea dig that trench out and put rock in there and just get a corrugated piece of plastic pipe kind of like a French drain and cover it up. That’ll keep that water from building up against the side of your cabin. Second, can you put like a mesh net or maybe even a fence something simple and spread it long ways across the front of your cabin, that may catch anything that rolls down that hill. Save you a lot of time walking all the way down looking for it just an idea enjoyed your video and you look beautiful as always.❤

      Lanyard your tools to a framing member on the deck. Similar to an arborist or roofer.

  • @piperlynne1
    @piperlynne1 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Maybe you need to have a tether line on your tools while you use them so they can't fall down the cliff. Just put a long rope on them and tie them to a tree so if they fall you can easily hoist them back up. I can't believe how much work you get done on that steep slope and with a back injury! Your cabin is going to be epic!

    You need to make a few low dams, no more than 6" high, sloping down hill. It would resemble the track a tractor tire would make. That would divert the water around the cabin. Finish the cabin first. Build the deck after.

Also put an antenna on top of the shed so you know where it is when you are out of sight of the shed when you are down & out of sight of it.

    Zip line need retensioning? It's a clever way of moving stuff down the slope. Filling a runoff trough with even large stones will slow down the running water, limiting erosion, but also making it drop suspended material. The result will be filling the spaces with soil and organic material, and rendering the trough useless. Lining the trough (but filling it) with stones will keep the water fast, limit scouring and filling with debris. Delaying the deck seems prudent.

    Got off to a bit of a rough start at the cliff. I'd atleast finish half way up the back wall before the deck. It would be a good idea to put tin in the tech you dug then fill in with gravel for drainage to channel any water around the sides of the cabin instead of under it. And chance you could use the drone to find the saw or tie off a climbing rope and rappel down the same path the saw took? Don't over do it now with your back. Stay safe.

    I suggest a french drain pipe and some small rock. A note about tying any load of more than one piece. Make an extra loop around the load. This will cinch up on the items if anything tries to shift. Simply going under and connecting on top can allow pieces to slide out of the middle. This can be critical if you are ever tying a load on top of your vehicle. Been there done that, once a long time ago. I had some pipe loaded, and when I had to hit the brakes a couple of them came all the way out of the middle and almost hit the vehicle in front of me. Lesson learned. Should have listened to my Dad.

    You circular saw would have pobably been significantly damaged in tumbling down the cliff. At least, the "Shoe" or "Foot" plate would have been bent. Had you found the saw, it most likely would have been unusable, and most likely unrepairable. Also, you have several comments good about spay painting your power and hand tools. Pick a Shocking Pink.
    ****
    Second, @danieloliver20 suggested a French Drain to carry off the rain water. Lots of work, but an excellent suggestion.
    ****
    Third, think about building you deck extension without attaching it directly to the Cliff House.
    ****
    Fourth, your foam insulation would be most effective and last decades longer installed inside the walls of the Cliff House. Installed outside of the protective Tyvek it will be subect to degradation by moisture when it freezes and thaws.

    Michelle really sorry you couldn't find your saw. The wonder woman cape may have helped. But could the drone help? Keep up the good work.

    If you put a pulley on your cable with your rope system, that way you have one pulley in the front, and then one in the back that keeps them from going down the hill fast that way you can lift it up and they will go down in one direction and not bang around on trees and stuff

      We’ve sort of tried that before but it still didn’t work that great. I’m sure it CAN work well, but we just don’t have the time to execute and sort out every detail that could be improved.

    Bummer that you hurt your back and lifting all those boards to the small cabin. 😢

    If a tree falls in the woods does it...land on the sky mule....of course it does
    Your a climber; rappel in that location and use what I'd call a chicane or a rope wrench for the climb back up. Again, as always because I get it. The struggle is real but, your perserverance is honorable

    Sorry your butt still hurts and you lost your saw! You make the bigger one look good though! That green team really needs to sponsor you!
    If I were doing a quick and dirty drainage trough for a cabin, I would probably trench in a couple sections of gutter...level, backfill them on the high side, and pin landscaping fabric coming down the hill laying over into them. It might take a season for it to settle into an actual runoff, but it would be cheap and should last a while.

    a cheap silt fence will stop your falling tools from going all the way down the cliff. Be sure to stake the bottom of the fence.

    Hello Michelle - I broke my back on June 27. I went on, business as usual until June 30 when I finally realized I was hurt worse than I thought and could not ignore it. 9 hours in ER to confirm very bad compression fracture at L4. Followed by surgery 13 days later. I hope you got yourself checked for broken bones, tail bone or vertebra. Don't try to be a hero, Ibuprofen is not the answer. Also, I broke my tailbone as a small boy (age 10) and it bothered me for 15 years or so. Kind Regards, Randy in Arizona

      Thanks Randy. I’d say I’m 90% healed now, so really don’t think it’s broken. I got lucky! Sorry to hear about your fracture and subsequent surgery!

    I wish you had rails up on your deck? If you would ever trip and go over the the side it would most likely be the end of you and your cabin! Please be extremely careful especially out on the front deck
