prominent head of the Makhzum clan, Amr was known as Abu Hakam ('Father of Wise') among his followers in the pre-Islamic days. After Muhammad started preaching monotheism, Amr opposed him and often used to physically attack Muhammad and his followers. He persecuted many Muslim converts, including Sumayya bint Khabbat, and Yasir ibn Amir. His cruel torture methods towards Muslims made Muhammad give him the title Amr as Abu Jahl ('Father of Ignorance') and Firaun al-Ummah ('Pharoah of the Ummah').

The story of how Abu Jahl and his companions waking up to go listen to our Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) recite the Quran is like in this modern day and age when a non Muslim hears the adhan for the first time, many have converted into Islam because of this ! Alhamdulia for islam, alhamdulia for being born a Muslim

Episode 12 & Episode 13 & Episode 14 Notes CONT: (Started on Ep12 comments)
6. The Quraysh would openly challenge the Prophet SAW: They asked him for particular miracles. Allah SWT showed them some miracles like the Moon Splitting and sometimes he didn’t.
7. The Quraysh tried to bribe and negotiate directly with the Prophet SAW: They tried to syncretise Islam and Paganism. So, Allah SWT revealed Surah al Kafirun in response to this. The Quraish offered the Prophet SAW via Utbah, the title of king, money and women. Utbah offered all these things and when he was done. The Prophet SAW started reciting Surah al Fussilat and it impacted Utbah so much, that he begged the Prophet SAW to stop reciting. He then ran back to his people and told the Quraysh, that the Prophet SAW will be something big in this world and that they shouldn’t challenge him.
8. The Quraysh had the Ahli Kitab question the Prophet SAW: The Quraysh asked the Jews about Muhammad SAW and the Jews had the Quraysh test, Muhammad SAW. This led to the revelations of Surah Yusuf and Surah Al Kahf.
9. The Quraysh tortured the Muslims: They begun torturing Muslims during the 4-5 years of the dawah. Abu Jahal was the main culprit, he would verbally abuse nobles of Quraysh and he would outright torture the Muslims who belonged in the slave class of Makkah. The Prophet SAW was protected by Allah SWT through his uncle, whereas Abu Bakr RA was protected through his tribe. The Quraysh tortured the Muslim lower class companions by, putting iron around their bodies and leaving them out, in the sun to be burnt severely. These Muslims were tortured so badly, that they were forced to claim that the false idols are their god and not Allah SWT.
Bilal Ibn Rabah
All except ONE companion who was Bilal RA and so the Quraysh focused on him the most. They handed Bilal over to the gangs within Makkah, to be dragged around the streets of Makkah, with a rope around his neck whilst he said the famous words of “Ahadun Ahad”. Bilal RA was also left in the dessert with a huge rock on his stomach for an entire day by his master Umayyah Ibn Khalaf. Bilal RA was rewarded for this by becoming the first Muazzin of Islam.
Khabbab ibn Aratt:
He was a ironsmith or had a female master that had him beaten up badly once she found out he became Muslim. She also would burn his back using the iron. The Prophet SAW noticed this and made dua and the dua came true. A few days later Khabab’s master went crazy and the only cure was to burn her and the doctors did this and she died in the process. It was Khabbab RA who was teaching Fatimah ibn Khattab RA the Qur’an just before Umar RA caught them. Khabbab RA was the companion, who was crying at this deathbed because he was afraid he won’t get a lot of rewards in the Akhira, because he received a lot of wealth in this dunya.
The Family of Yasir: Yasir, Summayyah, Abdullah and Ammar
All four were slaves and were tortured in front of each other for being Muslims. Abdullah was the oldest son and Ammar was the youngest. Yasir and Summayyah became the first martyrs of Islam. Yasir was the first to be killed and it was brutal. Summayyah, rebuked Abu Jahal out of anger and thus he impaled her genitals with a spear and she died. Abdullah was killed by being thrown into a ditch. Ammar uttered words of kufr and so they let him go. He was 15 at the time and died much later during the civil war between Ali RA and Muawiyah RA.
Suhaib Ar Rumi
Suhaib is not a roman, he was an Arab who was captured and sold into slavery in Rome. He forgot Arabic and became fluent in Latin, and after he got older, he remembered his roots and sold himself back into slavery and ended up in Makkah. He ended up with a merciful slave owner who freed him after his death. Suhaib then immigrated to Medina and he was the only companion to do this on foot. He was dehydrated by the time he reached Quba and the Prophet SAW himself wiped the dust off, of him. Allah SWT revealed Al Baqarah Verse 207 referring to Suhaib indirectly.

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, these are my notes on Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Seerah series.
Please note: I HIGHLY recommend that you all watch YQ’s Seerah series, as I DON’T cover every single detail the Sheikh mentions. I made these notes primarily for myself but, decided my fellow brothers and sisters may benefit from them too. I no doubt will have made mistakes in my notes. All the good in these notes is from Allah SWT and all the mistakes are from myself. But, I was very meticulous and tried my best to make sure everything is accurate as the Sheikh mentions it.
You also will see I have added “Fun Trivia facts” under each of my notes. These FTFs are information YQ said that was off topic or not necessary to include in my notes for the episode. But, they were still worth mentioning hence the inclusion as FTFs. FTFs aren’t always HAPPY pieces of information. Sometimes they are very sad trivia. I just want to say that FTF is the phrase I used for them all collectively when making the notes.
One thing I wanted to do but am too lazy to do is, maybe someone could take the FTFs from under each “Episode” and make an Islamic reminder/information IG/TikTok account and post them daily or something. Could be a great form of Sadaqah Jaariyah.

@ Stella doro- we should not dishonour any companion of Prophet. Mawyya might made some mistakes, still he is a companion.
This is not a mistake that was one of the greatest sin that he committed to change Khilafa to Monarchy just for the sake of his unjust desire of power and later nominated his son as a successor by oppression and using illegal means.
+Ateeque ur Rehman who are you to judge Muavia (RA)??? As Mizanur mentioned one must be careful and must not judge or comment in judge mental manner regarding companions of Messenger of Allah.
By the way, Muavia appointed his son after consultation !!!
Samie-ul Rehman to be sincere I don't think we criticized him for who he was or he believes etc but is it true that there where others Sahaba higher than him (the same way Hamza RA is higher than his brother , as the sheikh explained in the past lecture ) and indeed the blood of the Prophet is higher than this companion's blood, meaning between Mu'awia RA son and Muhammed SAW grands sons indeed there is a clear difference,and, by the way there were sahaba a live at the time far worthy of been appointed the líder than it was Mu'awiah RA 's son. And that's a fact.
Anabel Guzman yes there were other sahabas who were older and senior in ranks... but as I mentioned Muavia (r.a) appointed his son after consultation. As for ateeque's comments being judgmental, yes he's judging Muavia's actions whereas ateeque himself isn't capable to judge properly about his own life matters.
Samie-ul Rehman well brother I'm not agree with you , he wanted his son to be the successor but not everyone gave him the bay3a, and that's a fact, may be even some of the sahaba because they didn't want any more precious blood to be spill, but come one , how on earth can someone think that the own family and other nearest ones ( meaning the other Sabah) to the Prophet SAW are less worthy to be "the successor" !? And we can see now, that regardless of Yazid's qualities of leader ship or wherever his father saw in him weren't enough, verily hi wasn't capable to fulfill Muhammed sallā llāhu ʿalay-hi wa-sallam's command : "'And be kind to my family". Wallahi it brings tears to the eyes!! May Allah have mercy one us , Ameen.

12-وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍۢ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًۭا

If the people at the time were cursing the one who revealed the verses of the Quran, then why did the 3 leaders of Makkah still make promises to Allah?
In simple terms;

Just out of jealousy and the fear of losing their status, the leader of the different clan/Tribes, even after understanding that the message of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) was true they did these kind of stuff.
(Btw some of the leaders of the tribes when they can to know about the true nature of Islam they accepted the deen for the most famous example will be umar ibn khattab (ra) and some did convert to Islam example abu sufiyan (ra) after the conquest of makkah)
I have a question, please. Why is Abu Lahab from banu Makhzoum while Abu Talib is from banu Hashim while they are both Prophet Muhammad's S.A.W uncles?
The Quraish was a large tribe and then it had its subs tribe so that's how these two people even though belonged from different tribes they were at the end of the from Quraish which meant that were related to the prophet (SAW). That's how they were the uncles of our Prophet (SAW)
