  • The Massacre of Karbala: A Historical Analysis" from the Sunni tradition.
"Is it appropriate for you to kill the likes of me? I am the son of the daughter of your Prophet. There is no other grandson of a prophet who remains on the face of the earth aside from me."
Journey back in history to revisit one of the most controversial and misconstrued events in Islamic history: The Massacre of Karbala.
Are Sunnis 'on the side of Yazid' or 'on the side of Husayn'? Who is to blame for the death of Husayn? Should we curse Yazid?
Join Dr. Yasir Qadhi as he analyzes and contextualizes the events that led up to the martyrdom of al-Husayn (radiAllahu `anhu), its occurrence and aftermath.

I have read Mandela's books and I remember him mentioning Hussain multiple times and I had no idea who he was. I started researching about him and I was truly moved by his story. It is astonishing to see a "Muslim scholar" praise this evil man Yazid who have committed some of the most atrocious and heinous crimes. I guess not that many people understand what courage is and what it means to stand against an oppressor even when all odds are against you.

You've just replied to a post that contains two quotes, each of them from Sunni books. l didn't express my opinion.
They (the quotes) clarify the fact that the Sahaba Abdullah ibn Umar, gave allegiance to Yazid
Another Sahabah, (& member of Ahlul Bayt) Imam Hussein, did 'not' give allegiance to Yazid
You do not wish to differentiate between the Sahabah & the Ahlul Bayt, but here, we see a clear difference in the loyalties of Abdullah the son of Umar, & Hussein the son of Ali.
Please enlighten me as to how you, as a Sunni Muslim, are able to reconcile this 'particular' difference.

      According to Hadiyth,
a period of mourning should not exceed 3 days. There
      should not be beatings,
lamentations, self harm or humiliation, etc. in it,
      but dignified according to
      the SUNNAH of the
      PROPHET (SAW).
      ALL MUSLIMS love
      AL HUSSAYN (AS),
      but it is HYPOCHRITICAL of
      SHIAS to make the
      ANNUAL COMMEMORATION of his
DEATH the highest edifice of their religious calendar .
Ignoring the fact that Greater men and women
than AL HUSSAYN have been killed , murdered,
      poisoned or assassinated
before him yet no DAY is set aside
      In memory of their deaths
      for example:-
      1.PROPHET MUHAMMAD
      (SAW)
      2. HAMZA IBN ABIY
      MUTWALIB (AS)
      3. JÀFAR IBN ABIY

      5. ALIY IBN ABIY TWÀLIB
      (AS)
      6. AL HASSAN IBN ALIY
      (AS)
      This shows the
      height of HYPOCRISY that
      the SHIAS address to.
      What is more relevant
      and appropriate Is for the
      DAY OF MATYRDOM OF
      AL HUSSAYN (AS), to
be regarded as not a DAY OF MOURNING, but a
      DAY OF CELEBRATION.
For to die as a MATYR in the SERVICE of ALLWAAH (AS),
      Is the HIGHEST PINNACLE
      of HONOUR that a
      MUWMIYN may achieve.
This day should be celebrated as a 3rd IYD
      in the SHIA CALENDER,
      with OFFICILA BUSSINESS,
      COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES
      SCHOOLS closed.
      CHILDREN and the POOR
      given treats. FRIENDSand
      NEIGHBOURS exchanging
      GIFTS. With PARADES ,
      DRAMATIC reenactment
      of the EVENT, Fanfare
      and and an atmosphere of
      FUN and FIESTA for ALL.
      Unfortunately the
SHIAS are acting in DISREGARD of the SUNNAH
and have made this a DAY
      of DISGRACE, MOCKERY,
      HUMILIATION, IMMOLATION and SELF
TORTURE to themselves Children , and even INNOCENT BABIES,
      to the mockery and
      snide remarks of the
      NON MUSLIM viewers.
We can only conclude that contunuation of this
      Morbid Charade only serves
      the purpose of scoring
      points against Decent
innocent Muslims on whom the SHIA try to set the
      Blame of the killing of
AL HUSSAYN over a thousand of years ago, while it is a historical fact which they well know that the killers are non
      others than the
      SHIA KHAWAARIJS who
      enticed AL HUSSAYN, and

Kufi are sure responsible for this tragedy. But yazid could have handle it differently. He could have given strict order not to harm imam hussain. Or he could have order that bring hussain to me. But he didn't do that. When you send a killer to do the job ,you dont have to tell him to kill. He could have said to ibn ziyad, " bring me good dates from kufa" and everyone knew what that mean. To make matters worse, the earliest scholars of Islamic History, somehow, for reward of money and title or even fame, deviated in their recording of events, Fabrication of hadith was widespread, even the first three caliph played anothet major part in disuniting the Muslim Ummah, the first already been said and the second was their secret congregation at Saqifah when they put forth their plan in electing abu bkr without any shame or dignity leaving the man who were foremost among them in fear of God, the first who answered to the Prophet call in helping him in conveying his messages, the lion of God, Imam Ali bin Abi Talib....

When Imam Husayn left Madina for Makkah he wrote a testament for his brother Muhammad bin Hanafiya. It has been narrated by Ibn Tawus. In this testament the Imam mentioned the motive for his rising and clarified the policy which he intended to pursue in all circumstances. He also referred to the false motives which instigate a man and make him fight to satisfy his carnal desires and stated that the godly persons are free from such motives. The testament reads as follows:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
"This is the testament of Husayn bin Ali bin Abi Talib written by him for his brother Muhammad, known as Ibn Hanafiya. Indeed Husayn testifies that there is no god except Allah and no being other than Him is fit to be worshipped and He has no partner. He also testifies that Muhammad is Allah's servant and messenger, who has brought truth from Him, and that Paradise and Hell do exist and the Day of Judgment is bound to come and there is no doubt about it, and on that day, Allah will bring the dead to life".
What the Imam said consists of the very doctrines which it is necessary for every Muslim to hold, and one who does not hold them cannot be a Muslim. Apparently the Imam meant to say that these very principles were in danger and, if the matters were allowed to continue in that manner, it was possible that the regime of the time might not refrain even from attacking these Principles of Faith. In fact the real motive for the Imam's rising was the protection of these very principles on which other religious and social tenets of Islam are based.
The Imam continued: "This movement of mine is not on account of stubbornness, rebellion, worldly passions or instigation by Satan. It is also not my object to create trouble or to oppress anyone. The only thing which invites me to this great movement is that I should reform the affairs of the followers of my grandfather, eradicate corruption, undertake enjoining to do good and restraining from evil and follow the tradition of my grandfather, the Prophet of Allah and my father, Ali".
This testament does not mention the formalities that usually form part of the last will made nowadays. On the other hand the Imam wished to clarify his motive. He wanted to tell the people that his movement was not an ordinary one based on human passions and worldly desires. He, therefore, says: I am not going out for merry-making and amusement or to create mischief. I am also not perusing the path of oppression". He adds: "I have come out to reform the followers of my grandfather".
These words show that in the year 60 A.H. the Muslim ummah was faced with a dreadful social and religious crisis, which could not be overcome with a severe and bloody revolution. It was a danger that could be faced only by a leader like Husayn bin Ali, whose infallibility has been testified by the Holy Qur'an in the verse of Purification of Surah al-Ahzab (33:33). It was a peril that could not be dealt with by means of speeches and religious sermons.
He added: "If the people respond to my call, and accept truth from me, well and good; and if they do not accept it, I shall observe patience and am not afraid of unpleasant events, hardships, and sufferings". By saying that he would observe patience, the Imam did not mean to say that he would sit with folded hands so that Yazid might do whatever he liked. On the contrary he used this word in its correct sense, which is suited to the position of an Imam, and is the basis of faith and godliness. In other words he said: "Even if I am alone I shall pursue this path till Allah decides justly between me and these people, and He is the most Wise and the most Powerful of the judges".

At 1.05.45 he says that Imam Hussain(A.S) did not know that he was going to die and that he genuinely believed that people of Kufa will support him.
But at 1.20.05, he says that the Prophet (PBUH), had foretold that Imam Hussain((AS) will be martyred, so obviously there is a contradiction here. Obviously, Imam Hussain((AS) knew what his grandfather had said and knew what he was doing. Also, who takes women and children along with them if they are going for a battle. The women folk and children were not left behind, because Imam Hussain((AS) wanted to tell history that this was not a battle to become a Caliph or for power, but to show the true character of the Caliph of the muslims I.e Yazid and to give the muslims the much needed awakening and also to restore the religion which was originally brought by the Prophet(PBUH) to the muslims.

      TRANSLATION:
Amir b. Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas reported on the authority of his father that Muawiya b. Abi Sufyan appointed Sa'd as the Governor and said:
What prevents you from abusing Abu Turab (Hadrat 'Ali), whereupon be said: It is because of three things which I remember Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) having said about him that I would not abuse him and even if I find one of those three things for me, it would be more dear to me than the red camels. I heard Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) say about 'Ali as he left him behind in one of his campaigns (that was Tabuk). 'Ali said to him: Allah's Messenger, you leave me behind along with women and children. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said to him: Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses but with this exception that there is no prophethood after me. And I (also) heard him say on the Day of Khaibar: I would certainly give this standard to a person who loves Allah and his Messenger, and Allah and his Messenger love him too. He (the narrator) said: We had been anxiously waiting for it, when he (the Holy Prophet) said: Call 'Ali. He was called and his eyes were inflamed. He applied saliva to his eyes and handed over the standard to him, and Allah gave him victory. (The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed: Let us summon our children and your children. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) called 'Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain and said: O Allah, they are my family.

Imam Hussein’s army were comprised of 72 men, many of which were young adolescents such as Al-Qassim, age 14, son of Imam Al-Hassan. There were also about 20 women that accompanied Imam Hussein to Iraq that brought along their young children. The youngest killed was Imam Hussein 6 month old baby Abdullah. When all of Imam Hussein’s men lost their lives in the battle field, lady Zainab brought the baby and handed him to Imam Hussein requesting him to ask the army for some water for the dehydrated child.. his mother Lady Rabab was unable to nurse him because her milk supply had ran dry due to not having had water for three days. Imam Hussain took the child and requested water for him, upon doing so the army of Ibn ziad became conflicted and split in two.. those who wanted to give the child water and those who didn’t. Ibn ziad fearing retaliation from his army of thirty thousand, wanted to put an end to this dispute. He order one of his most skilled archers Harmala Ibn Kahel to target the child’s neck with a three headed arrow killing him instantly. This was just one reported account of children being killed merciless at the hands of Bani ummaya during the battle of Karbala. Today, the infant of Imam Hussein is buried along side his father Imam Hussein and his brother Ali Al-Akbar age 27 who also lost his life fighting along side his Father in Karbala. The shrine of Imam Hussein stands as the most visited shrine in the world.

Depends whether you are Shia or sunni. You would judge according to the narrative you've been told. Here Yasir Qadhi is providing a sunni analysis.

This is worst kind of lecture I’ve heard on Karbala topic and that too coming from a renowned scholar like Yasir Qadhi. Same propaganda garbage from the defenders of Umayyads, not at all a neutral perspective. There are tons of hadiths on this topic for references and yet he chose Tarikh i.e. historical records which are biased and not authentic for topic as sensitive as Karbala

Wallahi Sheikh Yasir Qadhi makes this so clear even though it's 9 years old. I am sunni iraqi and wallahi after hearing about this I wish I wasn't born Iraqi. I wish so badly that Hussein was not killed and something was done about it. But the Iraqis were cowards and hypocrites and I wish to not be from them. I have cousins that are Shia and they are amazing people in terms of morals but now I wish I wasn't cousins with them. I traveled to Iraq 2 years ago to visit family and my Shia cousins took me to karbala and the imam hussein mosque or whatever it was called. People in there kept crying and kissing the doors of the place and when they prayed they prayed on this stone with words on it. I kept saying to them this was so weird and it doesn't make sense and was strange to me why the hell they'd do it. I prayed in there 2 ruqaat as normal sunnah people do and left. Wallahi if the so called Shia of Hussein people really felt sorry they'd turn back to Allah directly and ask a person of true islamic knowledge on what to do and leave it at that. They literally didn't have to make a forever sadness thing where they're sad forever. It's so stupid I can't understand it. I just want to be beside the Prophet in jannah. Inshallah. I know I wrote long but I had to because I couldn't stay quiet about it. It's so stupid what the Iraqis did.

Alhamdulillah you are not easily influenced by your surroundings but do not be ashamed or apologize for your people as this is of the past and in Islam there's no concept of original sins like the Christians believe, no one shall bear the sin of another. The best you can do is to advice them to return to the teachings following the Quran and Sunnah.
"Is it other than Allāh I should desire as a lord while He is the Lord of all things? And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ." (6:164)

    • @mujtaza
      @mujtaza 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Then how can you explain that Allah commands you to love the Allulbayt that Allah mentioned in the Quran 42:23
That ˹reward˺ is the good news which Allah gives to His servants who believe and do good. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I do not ask you for a reward for this ˹message˺-only honour for ˹our˺ kinship.”1 Whoever earns a good deed, We will increase it in goodness for them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Appreciative.
      Footnote
This could also be a call to all believers to love and respect the immediate family of the Prophet (ﷺ).

The sins of your ancestor is not your burden, unless you follow exactly the same footsteps. You will gain new sins instead! Nauzubillah!

Masyaallah. Even though this is the Sunni’s version of events, may this be the watershed moment that we add a little bit more knowledge of our origins and religion, and practice tolerance and peace.
