I've been gaming on an LG C8 OLED for a bit over 4 years now I think it is. I've had the pixel shift on the whole time. I've had no burn-in at all. No problems gaming on it. It's been amazing and I couldn't go back to a non-OLED display.

I got over 7000 hours on my CX as a monitor, no burn in. And even if it did, it was worth it because it's amazing. I'm staring at this thing for about 30% of my life, it better be good. Why waste my life away with ugly IPS bleed.

I have the alienware qd - oled 34 inch. It's amazing. The dark scenes are very detailed and true to life. It's still super dark, but you can see in detail. For example if it's super dark in game and someone in front of you has a flashlight, it's like a new sensation, it looks real in a way. Can't explain it. But it's worth it

I bought the same back end of last year when there was a discount near Christmas. Not having to deal with backlight bleed makes dark scenes amazing, let along with HDR. Its a hard thing to explain, it has to be seen to really know the difference. The motion clarity is amazing on OLED too and for me at least the UW aspect is great. Works fantastic with the PS5 as well since they brought in 1440p support. Zero regrets from me

Been gaming on a LG C1 48" for a little over a year. Absolutely perfect gaming display. Picked it up at MicroCenter as a refurb. Was significantly cheaper than premium monitors at the time and better feature list. Perfect blacks, great color, 120hz and GSync support. Couldn't pass it up. The way colors pop and the deepness of black levels made me want to replay all my favorite games to experience them with it. I’ve been using OLED for console gaming for the past 3 years and it has been great. I had an LG 55 C9 and a couple of years ago got a 65 C1. The overall image quality, contrast, and pixel response is second to none. I’d love to have OLED for my PC setup so I can have the same benefits but with a lot more power to throw at games.

I got the 48" LG CX in Aug of 2020 and have managed to put 18495 hours to-date on it as both monitor and TV. It still looks as good as the day I bought it with no burn-in or issues. I took as few precautions like no desktop icons, an auto hide taskbar, and screen timeout, but once you get used to them they're really not concessions. Don't know how much of that was actually necessary, but 18K hours and counting without a bit of trouble has been worth it. 4K/OLED is the best upgrade I ever made to my gaming setup. Once you go OLED you'll never want anything else.

One tip. Set the OLED brightness lower than max.. this alone will also prevent most all issues because this is what drives retention. Max oled brightness drives the leds.. at their max. Lowering this just by 10 is not noticeable but helps a lot.

@@ij6708 well that's due to the firmware being early release. LG are pushing the same OLED panels to the limit via software. Samsung are innovating. I've had an oled panel before (monitor I bought around 2 years ago) and had pixel shift on and I got burn in on my task bar area. I was really disappointed because I was told that pixel shift tech almost completely eliminates the possibility of burn-in.
Now that LED TVs and monitors are being constructed with a plethora amount of local dimming zones, it's starting to get closer and closer to OLED quality contrast while continuing to excessively out perform OLEDs in terms of peak brightness (which is a huge crutch with most OLED panels) which is a MAJOR factor in getting amazing HDR performance. My tv has so many local dimming zones that unless you go to the extreme sides of its viewing angle, you cannot tell where the local dimming zones are unless you have literally a black background and like, a ball of light going across the screen.

Monitor-wise the best thing I've done in recent years was to buy some nice mid-tier (nothing fancy) IPS curved monitors for daily use and working from home, with an LG C2 OLED connected but off until I want to game. The fact they sell a 42" and 48" version makes them perfect for gaming if you're short on space, and unless you're playing sweaty competitive CS:GO or Warzone, for any other game the panel is amazing!

My local Best Buy just put this up on display, and most stores should have it up this week. Not gonna lie, my first impression of this LG monitor was "wow, thats dim, lemme turn up the brightness" and found it was already at 100 out the box. Also, the matte coating is aggressive, so if you're used to OLED from TVs you won't like the duller image this has. It's actually not an unwieldy size for a desk monitor though, and has a nice design, but IMO, I'm just going to get a 32" miniLED display, like that Innocn one that's $900 or $800 on sale, when back in stock. 4K, 144, 1152 zone FALD, HDR1000 and well over 500 nits 100% full field in SDR, so I can adjust it to my preference. I've bought the LG G2 55" tv last year, and it's fantastic. PC, 4K movies, PS5, all looks beautiful, I've not had any issues of any kind. Despite many reviewers on the web praising QD-OLED by Samsung and Sony, after visiting a store to compare them in the real world the LG really stood out for me and my choice was made much less difficult. My only complaint would be the number of HDMI ports (4) but that is something of a complaint about all TVs now. I bought a decent HDMI splitter which solved that problem, and I'm looking into getting a new AV receiver somewhere this year which has a HDMI splitter built in and can extract the best possible audio from the source. Possibly the Marantz Cinema 50. My PC will still be plugged into the TV via HDMI directly to keep the lowest latency possible, and audio through SPDIF to my amp works really well so I'm sticking with that setup. NVidia doesn't like the splitter, causing desktop resolution changes, very annoying. Hope all my research into video/gaming/audio can help someone on their way to a new setup!

@@mainsource8030 True, optical has a limit compared to HDMI audio. For gaming 5.1 is totally enough for me. But an upgrade option for PC would be cool, just hadn't thought of using a DP to HDMI adaptor. An amplifier handling the HDMI switching and audio extraction instead of a separate HDMI splitter, apart from better audio, helps with cable clutter and extra steps in the switching. I bought the splitter mainly for the PS5, which does not have an SPDIF out, only HDMI, the splitter has SPDIF out and allows me to have 5.1 sound from my amp. Bit of a workaround, but it works! But an upgrade for PC audio is now an option as well, thanks for the tip 👍

As others have said, I'm still shocked at how good it looks every time I sit down in front of it. If I was going to buy again right this second, it would be a much harder decision between this and a Samsung QD with no burn in HOWEVER... LG has been INCREDIBLE with their firmware updates related to PC use on their CX series TVs, and also the C1 etc... if they keep this up, I will stick with them because I have never seen so many firmware updates improving and adding features with any TV or monitor I've ever owned. I think roll-able screen technology would be a great feature to help resolve OLED burn-in issues. Instead of using the tech to roll the screen up, the tech could be used to "side-scroll" the panel back and forth slowly ensuring that the pixels are moving without actually visibly seeing them move from your perspective.

I recently upgraded my primary display to the new Alienware ultrawide OLED and I'm just telling you guys.......there's no going back. Ever. The gaming experience is glorious, but if you work with ANY timeline based software (like a DAW or video editing app), the extra width is glorious. Color accuracy is superb as well. The ultrawide ratios are much more similar to our real-life field of vision, and once you get acclimated to using it, all other monitors just look kinda meh. I thought I had made some big upgrades to my rig in the past, but this one easily had the most impact. If you get one that is the same height as your previous monitors, you can easily make a dual-screen setup workable and look nice. You don't have to go "one screen only" just because it's ultrawide. You just need a little extra desk space.

Basically because all the pixels can turn completely off to make a pure black image, some panels will turn off the pixels when there is actually picture information there, thus losing dark parts of the image. Usually monitors just receive RGB values per pixel and just blast it out on the screen. OLED’s simply power down the pixel if each of the RGB channels are set to zero. I’m really curious about what you’re describing because that would essentially mean is that the RGB values for certain pixels is non-zero (not perfectly black), yet the monitor is powering down those pixels anyway. To me that sounds like a defect either in hardware (pixels not able to power back up quickly enough after being shut down) or software (using different RGB values than what was sent over through the DP or HDMI cable). How widespread is this issue, and is it specific to any particular brand or model?

@@benjaminlynch9958 It's a real thing. TV reviewers have described this on OLED tv's for years since the TV panels have been around much longer than gaming oled monitors. My understanding is that there is a minimum brightness oled pixels have to achieve before they turn on, and not all panels are equal, thus the loss of detail in dark images. I'm sure you see information about this if you do a google search.

This seems like the opposite of my experience. OLEDs bring a new dimension to dark shows like altered carbon whereas a LCD would distract you with the back light glow.

that's dependent on image processing and is pretty much a non-issue since 2019.
plus these things usually come with a "black stabilizer" dial so you can have fine control over near blacks. it's actually almost like a cheat if you want to exploit it, makes things super visible even in the darkest shadows.

ive only noticed that on my oled in low resolution and low birate videos. In games youll always be playing at the native res so i doubt it would have that issue.

Pros: its OLED. Cons : Im still using a 1050 GPU.....so no money.

    I bought myself a Samsung Odyssey oled g8 g85sb
Compared to my previous monitor the Acer Predator X34P, I have no regrets.
I'm finally able to play my HDR games that have been sitting in my library for years now.

*THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LCD AND OLED SCREENS*
LCD aka. Liquid crystal screens work using one huge light source in the back and using a liquid crystal layer to bend the light into a red green or blue color which is sent through another layer (I think it’s called the rgb filter). The problem is it’s these is thet the huge light source in the back makes it impossible for a true black. There will always be light in each pixel
    *OLED SCREENS*
But OLED screens use molecule scale reactions on each pixel to produce a current with three different reactors for the rgb values which can then be sent through an rgb filter. Which essentially makes each pixel its own screen. Which means if a pixel receives a code from a microprocessor to produce pure black it can just turn off. Producing no light!
    *OLED PIXEL EMOJI MODEL:*
    🪨= Metallic layer
🧽= “Hole” layer for eased passthrough
⚛️= reaction where light is produced

Nice video and explanation. I love my alienware oled monitor and if you got the money, it is worth it. Another thing... Its very dificult to go back to other type of monitors/tvs after using OLED or mini LED.
