    I have these on my 07' GX with KO2's. I thought it would be hard to get over the red TRD logo on them, but after a few days it grew on me.

    I picked up Continental Terrain Contact A/T’s and they are an excellent on road tire with AT look for my GX. I had the Firestone LE2 and zero change in ride quality and noise. Super quiet tire which is nice for a AT tread.

    On road that much-- BFG KO2 or Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek (new offroad All terrain- very quiet- but lots of grip) Great control too- and cheaper than most of the others but last just as long or longer!!!

    I put them on my GX recently, and love them. Awesome quality and finish, and they look “right” on the GX, but gives it a little more attitude. Hard to beat going with Michelin LTX tires overall, but if you’re serious about the off-road part BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO 2’s are very nice.

  • @nonamus9947
    @nonamus9947 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yo I noticed you had different tires on the front and back with the Stock wheels, my dad owns one and I reccomend having all 4 tires the same since these cars have AWD systems and they can fail if they don't have the same tread design and equal tread on all 4

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nonamus Gaming yo make a good point I have heard about that before. The previous owner only serviced this vehicles our local Lexus dealer. Idk why the dealership put different tires on it but they did. I plan to change all 4 tires anyway. I wonder what happens if you have to use the spare tho?

    • @delewan
      @delewan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KRTLyfe Not a huge deal if you use the spare temporarily. And really, different tires are only a problem on permanent AWD vehicles due to the subtle differences in rolling resistance and overall diameter can cause a very slight difference in rotational speed wheel-to-wheel, which can mess with differentials. It is less of a problem in a traditional switchable 4WD arrangement, unless you're using 4x4 a lot.

    • @coryhale6708
      @coryhale6708 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard the same thing about 80 series awd land cruisers but the question I gotta ask is would the diffs explode if you drove in a circle for 10 miles? Your outside tires are spinning at different rates much like if you had slight differences in height between the two brands of tires.

      I have Bridgestone Dueler A/T’s (265/70R/17) on my stock XREAS suspension 03 4Runner Sport. They are very quiet, I’m still getting 20mph on the highway (I have the 4.0 V6) and they are awesome in the MN snow and ice. Had them for almost four years and not even halfway worn yet. They were about $150 ea. They are great for all but extreme off road...I don’t think they would be a good mud tire.

    The TRD wheels are good, but I completely disagree with you on your assessment of aftermarket wheels. Method, Icon, Fuel, Vision… all of them make excellent wheels. Plus, you’re ride quality and stability increases because the wheels are wider and have a better offset for an off-road vehicle. Furthermore, those TRDs chip and are no where near as strong in their finish. That’s why they always end up being powder coated
    As I said, the TRD wheels are good and not a bad choice, but to dismiss every other wheel on quality or ride performance is just a bad position to take, especially with the GX470.

      Howdy howdy, I respect your opinion. In fact we actually have Method wheels on both of our 100 series Land Cruisers. If you look through our videos you will see those. I really like our Method wheels and they are really good but in my personal experience OEM wheels tend to stay true and are less likely to fail. Not saying all aftermarket wheels are bad but, and correct me if I’m wrong. In the USA there is no regulation on aftermarket wheels so a lot of not so great products are on the road vs OEM wheels have to meet global specifications so they are much less likely to fail vs aftermarket brands. I know it also depends on the forging process in which the wheel was made but long story short I’ve never had a AMG mono block, Porsche Lobster claw or TRD pro wheel fail vs more than a hand full of issues with aftermarket wheels. Just my personal experience tho and definitely no scientific data involved.

      @@KRTLyfe I can only speak to offroad performance wheels for trucks. My opinion is that the benefit of the TRD Pro wheels is the weight. They've designed the wheels to be only 7" and have a positive offset for the purpose of keeping them under the wells and increase aerodynamics and conserve fuel costs. If someone is really getting into trails, they would likely not find the TRD Pro wheels to be the best option. This is why companies like FN recreate the TRD Pro wheel in a wider option. I don't think they are bad by any stretch and honestly would love them for them to work on my GX. But I'm having to come up with ways to justify it because I'm concerned I'll need to run spacers, especially with 285s on it. But there is a reason why Methods are so popular and people routinely pick them even though they are over a $100 per wheel over the TRD Pro costs (and in some cases almost 10 lbs heavier). Which one did you end up with? The 305NV? I just noticed that we went to an FJ so I'm stoked to check those videos out.

      @@dylantodd9574 First off thank you for being able to have a polite debate about wheels. A lot of people on the internet don’t seem capable of it LOL, so I appreciate it. If the numbers you are saying are correct then OEM weight would be a massive advantage IMHO for a number of reasons. Width… that is an interesting conversation that I’ve seen people argue on IH8MUD for the last 15 years. I kinda think it depends on the terrain in your area but, I’ve seen people running thin wheels and wide wheels and they both seem affective. Like Australian builds vs Americans… (America tends to lean towards wide tires). I to a small degree think it really boils down to aesthetic preferences IDK. The Methods we have are the 701 on my 2005 LC and the 703 on my 1999 LC. I personally love the 703 but not so much the 701. They are really good but… I don’t think they are as good in terms of build and fit as the OEM wheels. Jut my personal Opinion tho completely debatable!

      OH, one thing I forgot to mention about wide wheels and this is just me brainstorming. The only place I’ve seen wide wheels as a necessity was in Iceland, if you are driving on the glaciers and other Arctic environments. I would think pretty much anywhere else in the world a 265 ish tire should get you there. I would think there must be some diminishing gains from going any wider…that starts to outweigh the benefits. Let me know your thoughts.

      @@KRTLyfe To me it's just like if we were in person batting around our own perspectives. No hostility or disrespect at all. From my own personal experience I would say that general trail riding and even some technical stuff I don't think that a 7" wheel is going to hold anyone back. Where I can think it can get tricky is when you get more technical or are on routes where you need to substantially decrease tire pressure. For example, Method has a bead grip technology that allows you to go down to around like 10-13 psi without the risk of debeading. I think it matters more when you're going up to 285 or larger tires where when you deflate it creates a much wider tire print and the 8.5-9" rim helps. It's just my take.

    I couldn't find the Vlog for the tire purchase, but I wanted to know what size tires did you go with and did you have to lift the truck to get it to fit? I have my TRD wheels and I'm shopping for tires now. Most likely going with the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 LT265/70R17. Amazon's has it for $206.99 per tire and tirerack has the same tire ( I think) for $227.14 not sure what the difference is. Will I still have to lift the truck to get them to fit? Hulk1906 if you watch our last GX Vlog we cover the modifications that we made and it explains everything. You should also watch our Vlog with the suspension modification. The BFG KO2 is a great tire. The difference in price is more than likely due to the version or the manufacturer date.
