You think I would clear and have no rubbing issues ? I have all 4 mudflaps as well . Not looking into doing lift. My stock tires are 265/65/17. All help is appreciated
Hey Rafael, sorry for the delayed response. I think you won't have to worry about rubbing. I have 285/70/17 and barely rub, so removing 20mm from the width should be enough to have clearance.
You really knocked it out of the park on the wheels. I personally think you went too big on the tires. For my GX I went with TRD wheels and got the stock tire size but A/T K02s. I had the K02s on the stock wheels for a couple months and they still rubbed at full lock. Barely rubbed, but I am glad I did not go with the 265/70s they were pushing. Once I switched to the TRD wheel, the rubbing is completely gone. Stock suspension and I am happy. Might replace the shock/struts at some point but no hurry. Already got new bags in the back. For now I am very happy with my setup.
The TRD wheel setup is nice and fits well from what I’ve seen. Yes, I agree I went big on the tires, but I love the look and figured “why not” lol. Glad to hear you’re working well on stock suspension! I’m still having slight rubbing issues at full lock, so you’ll be seeing a lift kit install video from me in the future.

I agree and might give it a try! I've seen a bunch of people in the GX Facebook group that have done it. I like the look, but would love to have some nice metal rock sliders so I still have something to stand on when loading bikes onto the roof. I'm thinking some rock sliders may be in my future lol.
Hey Ben! I agree, both of those would be awesome additions. The ladders look cool and I would use it a lot here in Florida for seeing out over the water on both the ocean and the rivers.
I like that idea! I’ve seen others post pictures without them and I like the look. I just really like standing on the side steps for loading on the roof rack. Maybe I should get rock sliders and have the best of both worlds. 🤔
Great point. I feel a wheel with an offset between 0 and the stock offset would work well. I'm still loving this 0 offset wheel spec all these years later and will continue to go that route when I upgrade wheels in the future. It just sits so nice and flush with the fenders and I have no issues with rubbing.
Many thanks for this video and the ones concerning and explaining speaker upgrades. Giving the links made ordering them painless. Again, a BIG ASS Thanks. Like your thoughts on the base overload, I am looking to get an equalizer soon. It's bearable, but not for long.=) Now my question. Concerning your selection to the tires, which I had planned all along. I am leaning more now towards only going 32 inch's . My thinking is that the 33's will water the power and response of the 4.7 liter power plant. What is your opinion of how they ride and how the power seems to feel. Any feed back you have would be greatly appreciated.
You have a good point on the tire size. I personally don't notice a change from the stock wheels with regards to power. It certainly didnt "bog" it down by running 33's, but I think physics would prove it does reduce to an extent. I'd say the width (285 in my case) might play more impact to power. In general, less weight from 32's would likely reduce wear on the drivetrain, so maybe as a science experiment go with 32's.
Thanks for watching and reaching out! Yes, blacking out the headlights is on the list of things to do this fall. I plan to also add an LCI strip on the inside to hook to change from amber during daytime to white for night driving.
Hey Hugo, sorry for the delayed response. Yeah, these wheels are getting hard to come by on eBay now and part of me thinks this video created a shortage in supply.
Thanks for doing these videos. Really invaluable resource. Think I can get away with 17x 9 -25o without bmc if I size down to 265 70s? Fine w/trimming but want to avoid the bmc. Thanks in advance
Hey Dustin, I'm not entirely sure the 265 width with a -25 offset is all that is required to guarantee. I'd say you might want to go down a size or two on the sidewall height as well. I'd be afraid to recommend the tire you're considering since I haven't tried it myself. It's likely going to fit, so it might be worth taking a gamble on it.
Hey Dylan. Yes, I'm still running these wheels and they likely don't show they fit since it's a Lexus and not a Toyota. The bolt pattern is the same as Toyota. I have a little bit of rubbing as shown in the video, but not much. This was only due to the tire size I selected.
I didn’t realize I was doing this in flip flops...I guess I’ve been fully converted to a Floridian! LOL I bought the wheels through Custom Wheel Outlet, but you can buy them through any Motegi Wheel distributor.
Followed your lead. Just purchased the rims you recommended. Also got lucky and got a set of wild peaks 285 70 17 (only 150 miles on them for 600 bucks). I’m stoked. I’m running a 2” eibach lift. Well on my way. Hope you’re enjoying your setup!

Hey Samuel, Sorry for the delayed response. I think you'll be fine with 265, but I'm not certain I can guarantee there won't be a slight rub. Your chances are much lower by reducing that tire width though.
I didn’t trim any other areas. Just that section I covered in the video. I’m planning to do a loft soon, but I’ve been running almost 2 years with this setup and the minor rub isn’t bad unless off-roading. The plan is to do a lift soon so I can do some serious trail riding.
ken alfred Thanks man! Well if you get one and have questions about mods or want to see me do a particular mod, let me know and I’ll make a video tutorial.
Hey I just recently purchased a GX470 and wanted this exact setup but I have no plans to go off-roading right away. It’s more for the look and to have a cool dad car (having a child in a couple of months) would you recommend this setup if it’s just city driving ? How’s the ride on those Florida roads?
Hey kbs! Congrats on picking up a GX470! Yes, I definitely recommend this setup for city or mostly road driving. I have a video on my channel of taking it off road and it does pretty well there as well with minimum rubbing on the trail. If you’re concerned about it, you could go to a 275 width on the tire instead of 285 and that will give you extra clearance. Hope this helps!
Hey Rafael. Yes, this is a good setup even for light off-roading. Anything with large suspension flex, you'll get some rub on the driver side. If you plan on that type of off-road driving, I'd suggest a lift for more clearance. Yes, once you trim the piece I showed being cut, it clears from rubbing.
This video is exactly what I was looking for. Q: On your Falken 285 x 70's I noticed you got the Passenger version. Was there any consideration for the Light Truck version of that tire size ? What was your thinking process on that ?
Great question elli003. When looking at Passenger vs. Light Truck I figured I'd get a better "daily" drive type of ride quality with a less rigid sidewall. Now that two years have passed and my GX has become something I want to offroad more, I think I'll switch to Light Truck on the next set.
I still have the wheels and plan to keep them in case I sell the vehicle and want to return to stock. It looks like eBay has some options to solve your problem...hopefully this link helps. www.ebay.com/b/Wheel-Center-Caps-for-Lexus-GX470/43961/bn_1424917
Hey, no worries. The offset for the wheels are 0, which reduced the amount of cutting needed and makes so there is no need for wheel spacers or a body mount chop. I have slight rubbing, but this will be eliminated when I install the lift this fall. Thanks for reaching out!
I actually just used plastidip on it. Vlog 17 has all the steps for doing it yourself. Let me know if you have any questions on the process. Thanks for reaching out! 🙏🏻
Hi there I put the same wheels but 18 mm offset with 285/75/17, it rubbed the upper control arm, the shop recommended that i can put 2 inches spacer , should I get the wheels with 0 offset or add the spacers? Your opinions is much appreciated.
Ideally you’d want the 0mm wheels as dealing with spacers is considered an annoyance by some. If it’s a total nightmare to return the wheels, I’d run spacers. I run spacers on my bmw and haven’t run into any issues. Many will have varied opinion on spacers if you ask around.
Nice wheels. Great choice. Design wise, Wheels look like 2000s fj cruiser bronze/gray stock wheels with faux beadlock ring but thinner spokes portion. How are they holding up so far?
They’re holding up great so far. They’ve been on the vehicle for about 8 months now. I’m very happy with the choice and plan to buy a 5th wheel so I can have a matching spare.
Hey Dj, Great question! I'd say the best without cutting would be to keep the same wheel offset as stock wheels and go a little less on tire wall height. I went with 70 on the sidewall, but 65 or 60 would probably be perfect.
Hi - did you get the TPMS disabled yet? Did you just cut and ground the blue wire out of the module? Thanks and nice rig! I’ve had my 04 for about a year and it’s such a solid car.
Ella Colson Yes, I just grounded the blue wire to disable. I agree, these are solid vehicles...glad to hear yours is treating you well! Thanks for reaching out!
Hey Jon, It definitely feels different with the extra weight and the bigger tread pattern compared to the old tires. Overall, it rides much better than I though and the WIldpeaks have very little road noise.
How's the build quality of the wheels, been thinking about this wheel for a while but they seem so cheap and nobody has them in stock to see in person, been a little hesitant
The build quality is great. Motegi is a very reputable brand in racing. They just happen to have affordable wheels. Do a quick Google on Motegi racing...hopefully that will be enough to convince you. I do understand your concerns though...eBay and other sites are littered with no name brands that make me question their quality. These have help up great so far. I’m planning to buy a 5th one soon so I have a full size spare. Let me know if you have any other questions about them. Thanks for reaching out!
Hey Dylan, Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there will be a reduction in mpg and I felt I noticed it slightly, but can't quantify the amount it changed by. Thanks for reaching out and also for subscribing!
The black paint has been holding up amazing after three years. I just recently did a ceramic coating video on these and it helps keep them so clean even on the trail.
Hey Pinju! Unfortunately, these wheels are no longer in production. You can still order wheels with the same specs and get great fitment. The links for the tires are in the description of the video with the specs too.
Good question, I learned I purchased the SL rated tires, which are the lowest load rating tires they make. I would have preferred a c or e load tire, but I also don’t do any hauling. The most I do is mountain bikes and kayaks on the roof. If you plan on towing a large trailer, you should go for c or e rating. Hope this helps.
@@Awesomoto Cool.. I got the load C. It's enough for daily and little off road activities. No extreme wheeling. I read some folks said they did fine with some heavy off roading. I'm not gonna run load E just because the followers with off road setup says so. Load C fits fine for me and some towing. Plus not so heavy.
Lex Thanks fit getting back to me on that. Glad to hear load C is working for you. I agree, I think it’s generally a good choice for most GX owners to go with.
The stock wheels are 25mm offset, so adding 285s on 22mm TRD wheels might work, but I’m a little hesitant due to clearance near the UCA. There’s a good chance you do this and have no issues at all, but I suggest taking some measurements of your current setup with stock wheels and see how you feel after that. Let me know if you need more help figuring that out and I can do some homework on my end to see if they’ll work. Cheers!
Thanks for the response! Would you ever add a light bar? I’ve been thinking of doing that for awhile. Would love to see a video of that install. Keep up the awesome channel!
Hey Karimov! No problem, hopefully it helps. Actually, you might be on to something there by going smaller on the front tires. You may not have an issue with rubbing. As for have a non-square tires setup I think it would be fine. Most modern sports cars(including my M4) run non-square setups. Let me know if you go that route. It sounds like a good option.
@@karimovm.5890 Is this with stock wheels or aftermarket? I can't guarantee that you won't have rubbing, but I think it'll be close and you might not need to cut.
Love your wheels and tires set up, I want to order the same one but it is not available anymore only 18mm offset still available, do you think it would still fit and look nice, thank you
Yeah I think the 18mm would work as the stock wheels are 25mm. It’ll bring it out a little bit and you shouldn’t have issues. Worst case scenario you could add some wheel spacers, but I doubt you’ll need it. Let me know if you go that route and need help or have questions.
S t r a w b e r r y m i l k ! I don’t know all the implications If you’re doing aggressive driving off road, but I do know that highway and daily driving wheels spacers are fine. My gut feel is that wheels spacers wouldn’t be great for off-roading.
Great video! My GX still has a stock suspension. I have the TRD pro wheels, If I go with 270/70/17R or 265/70R/17 BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 will I still have rubbing? Could I rock this wheel without getting a lift kit? Looking to purchase tires this week.
Hulk1906 I’m thinking 265/70R/17 will be the safest route, but I’m not 100% sure the offset on the wheels you have. I’d check the clearance you have with your current setup with a tape measure and see if the added dimensions will hit anything in the wheel well. That’s the safe route. I did a rough check and luckily I didn’t have to worry about much rub. I’ll eventually install a lift kit and I highly recommend you do in the future if you go with that large of a tire. Reason being is that you may not get rub with Town/highway driving, but likely to rub when the suspension compresses. Let me know if you have more questions. Feel free to reach out on Instagram too. @@Awesomoto Thanks for the speedy response. Did you end up having to do a body mount chop? I was looking at getting these tires and similar 0 offset wheels with a 2.5 in lift and upgrade UCA I don't mind doing some massaging and some cutting but I definitely want to avoid doing the BMC
Knightofcydonia Thanks for reaching out. I did not have to chop any of the body mount and that’s on stock suspension. I plan to get a 2.5” as well in the near future. With the lift you won’t need to do any cutting.
I like your wheel and tire combo. They look awesome on the GX. I just lifted my GX by 2.5” and plan to put the same tire and size on my stock wheel. Hopefully I don’t have to do much mod to the liners and rear fenders. Does your tire rub the front liner at all?
HCCVAD Thank you! I’m happy with the wheel and tire choice and feel they made a big improvement in the look. I bought the wheels through Custom Wheel Outlet, but you can buy them through any Motegi Wheel distributor. I believe they were $700 for all 4 wheels. I bought the tires through either Amazon or TireRack.
Strange approach to the choice of wheels. If looking for off-road wheels, number one criteria should be the strength. MR139 is more useful for the purpose. Same with the tires. Saving e few hundred dollars on cheap brand might cost much more at the end than buying proven brand. And if it is just for looks, than it is simply waste of money.
I'm not a fan of the MR139 wheels and there is nothing that states the MR139 is any stronger than the MR149. Regardless, I don't see a circumstance where the wheels I chose break under off-roading conditions. If that ever happens, then sir I owe you a beer. As for the tire, I went with the Falken Wilkpeak strictly because they are a proven brand. These tires are praised in many off-roading forums from Jeep, Taco, 4runners, etc. I didn't simply choose these without doing research. The link below is a great reference/review on them. th-cam.com/video/Ti4JvypKiZ4/w-d-xo.html

Very nice setup . I have a 2009 Toyota prado which is very similar to GX460 model . I just bought falken wildpeak at3 AT tires 265/70/17. My wheels are 17x8.5 with 0 offset .

Biggest looks change you could get is to ditch the running boards. It’ll look instantly lifted and gets rid of the mall crawler look completely. It’s takes 5 mins to pull em off if you haven’t already!

The more negative offset you do, the worse, if you can go another 10mm towards the inside before rubbing the top A arm with the tire the better.
It's bearable, but not for long.=)
Now my question.
Digging the wheel/tire combo. If you ever black out the inside of the headlights, can you do a video? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and reaching out! Yes, blacking out the headlights is on the list of things to do this fall. I plan to also add an LCI strip on the inside to hook to change from amber during daytime to white for night driving.
Link for wheels is not working so you have any suggestions.
Gx looks phenomenal.
Thanks. Do you remember how much space you had to the body mount w/ the 285 70s before you lifted?@@Awesomoto
What do you think would be the biggest most aggressive wheel/ tire set up without lifting or cutting?
This was my intent for this video. If you don’t want to cut the fender the way I did. I’d say a 265/65 would work great.
So I know was 2 years ago, but the motegi website doesn't show this model as available for the GX470 (2005) Are you still running these? Any rubbing?
Hey Dylan. Yes, I'm still running these wheels and they likely don't show they fit since it's a Lexus and not a Toyota. The bolt pattern is the same as Toyota. I have a little bit of rubbing as shown in the video, but not much. This was only due to the tire size I selected.
Amazing!!! Love that fact your in flip flops 🩴. Where do you buy the wheel? I need to by them. I will not be doing any off road.
I didn’t realize I was doing this in flip flops...I guess I’ve been fully converted to a Floridian! LOL
I bought the wheels through Custom Wheel Outlet, but you can buy them through any Motegi Wheel distributor.

If you recall, besides the side step and liner along with it, any modding to the front bumper liner or rear liners?
I didn’t trim any other areas. Just that section I covered in the video. I’m planning to do a loft soon, but I’ve been running almost 2 years with this setup and the minor rub isn’t bad unless off-roading. The plan is to do a lift soon so I can do some serious trail riding.

So this tire size is good if no off road is being done ? it clears once we cut the trim by the running board ?
Quick question. Do you by any chance still have the center caps from stock wheels ? I’m looking for 2. Or do you have any idea where I can get some?
I still have the wheels and plan to keep them in case I sell the vehicle and want to return to stock. It looks like eBay has some options to solve your problem...hopefully this link helps.

It looks good! I must have missed the off-set specs in the video. What is the off-set again? Thanks
Hey, no worries. The offset for the wheels are 0, which reduced the amount of cutting needed and makes so there is no need for wheel spacers or a body mount chop. I have slight rubbing, but this will be eliminated when I install the lift this fall. Thanks for reaching out!
/Quick question, where did you get that blacked out grill for the GX? Great video
I actually just used plastidip on it. Vlog 17 has all the steps for doing it yourself. Let me know if you have any questions on the process. Thanks for reaching out! 🙏🏻

Subbed. Nice vid. Thanks. Fellow Florida man here. Up in St. Augustine Did you ever do the lift?
Nice to see a fellow Florida GX owner! I have not done the lift yet, but it’s in the financial plan LOL. I’m hoping in the next few months.
Looking to get a GX.. what do you think the best tire/wheel setup is for stock suspension without cutting/rubbing?
Hey Dj, Great question! I'd say the best without cutting would be to keep the same wheel offset as stock wheels and go a little less on tire wall height. I went with 70 on the sidewall, but 65 or 60 would probably be perfect.
@@Awesomoto thanks! Happy new year!

How does the ride feel with the new setup and do you feel a difference with the new weight of wheels and tires? Thank you
Hey Jon, It definitely feels different with the extra weight and the bigger tread pattern compared to the old tires. Overall, it rides much better than I though and the WIldpeaks have very little road noise.
Awesomoto was debating going 285 for a while but this confirms it. Thanks again.
jon j No problem! Reach out if you have questions along the way.
I love those wheel! I wonder if I can use my stock tires?
They are the same diameter wheel as stock. I think it’d fit stock tires. Might want to double check with a tire shop.
Not that it matters a ton, but how did your mpg drop from the stock 265 to the 285?
Hey Dylan, Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there will be a reduction in mpg and I felt I noticed it slightly, but can't quantify the amount it changed by. Thanks for reaching out and also for subscribing!
How does the black paint hold up on these wheels?
The black paint has been holding up amazing after three years. I just recently did a ceramic coating video on these and it helps keep them so clean even on the trail.
Can u pls send me the details of buying tires and rim
Hey Pinju! Unfortunately, these wheels are no longer in production. You can still order wheels with the same specs and get great fitment. The links for the tires are in the description of the video with the specs too.
Which wildpeak did you get? The load c or load e?
Good question, I learned I purchased the SL rated tires, which are the lowest load rating tires they make. I would have preferred a c or e load tire, but I also don’t do any hauling. The most I do is mountain bikes and kayaks on the roof. If you plan on towing a large trailer, you should go for c or e rating. Hope this helps.
@@Awesomoto
Cool..
Can I run this tire set up on the TRD wheel with the 22mm offset?? I don’t know much about offsets for wheel fitment.

Hi brother thanks for video!
But what will happens if install to the front axle 265/70/17 and rear axle 285/70/17

Love your wheels and tires set up, I want to order the same one but it is not available anymore only 18mm offset still available, do you think it would still fit and look nice, thank you

You think it’s safe to use spacers
S t r a w b e r r y m i l k ! I don’t know all the implications If you’re doing aggressive driving off road, but I do know that highway and daily driving wheels spacers are fine. My gut feel is that wheels spacers wouldn’t be great for off-roading.
Let me know if I can help in any way.

Reyne Habon Thanks man!!
What load range are your wildpeaks and do you like them?
Thanks for watching!
@@Awesomoto Thanks for the speedy response. If I'm going to do the lift kit, I might as well go big right? 285/70/17 will still warrant cutting around the fender? or what about 275/70/17 + lift kit means no need to cut anything? I most likely won't off road. I'll probably go with the 275/70/17. More weight leads to poor gas performance?
Hulk1906 I mean, you definitely could go big lol. I like your mindset with the 275’s and a lift though. You’ll still love that setup and it might be cheaper for tires.
Awesomoto tires have been ordered; In order to lift my Gx must the rear air bags be converted to coils? I think they work fine at the moment.

It’s a 2005 with 155k miles on it. In recent conversations with other GX owners and aspiring owners I hear these have gone through the roof in price. It’s crazy how it changed in just a years time.
What’s the brand of the roof basket you have there?
I bought a cheap roof basket on amazon from a company called MAXXHAUL. It was less than $100 and has held up good for the past 10 months. I meant to use it temporarily until I got a nicer rack, but it's been a nice surprise and I decided to keep it longer.
Thanks . That one looks nicer than the one on eBay.
dude... i;m buyin... thank you
Dennis L Glad to heat! Let me know how you like them!
@@Awesomoto thanks for the help and great video btw
Knightofcydonia Thank you! Let me know if you have questions during the wheel/tire upgrade on your GX.
I have a small amount of rubbing on the drivers side at full lock when the suspension is compressed. So driving on a decline while turning I have rubbing. I also plan on doing a 2.5” lift, so I think that’ll eliminate the rubbing issue. Let me know how your lift and tire upgrade go. Feel free to tag me on Instagram if you post pictures.
bro u fucking nerded out for the first ten minutes of ur video there damn!!
Did you order it from ebay?
Yes, I found them on eBay. They come in and out of stock from what I noticed.
How much and where can I buy ?

Just remove the running boards!
Dude! I want to so bad lol. Rock sliders are coming in the future. I think I want to do a lift first. Too many mods on my list...not enough money to fund them all at one lol
@@Awesomoto damn I just noticed you have almost the same spec GX as me, just a year newer. Tires and a lift is definitely the first thing I'm going to do after all the preventative maintenance!
@@AirsoftShizsAndGigs That’s awesome! Yeah I took care of the tb and so first, then started on mods.
