My Dad left me his 2006 GX470 when he went on to be with the Lord last year , it had about 200K on it….i drive every week to preach, so I put about 200 miles a week on it, it’s at 209K now…..still going strong….LOVE IT….he wanted me to have reliable wheels after a disaster with a 2014 Hyundai Sonata (motor blew at 82K die to manufacture defect, took a year and half for them to send the reimbursement to the wrong person who cashed it, they told me too bad.) After he died I found out he’d had it put in my name…. Sorry for the long post, these are excellent vehicles, very reliable and a great memory of my father….love and miss you, Dad! John 3:16!
Five years ago my wife found an '09 GX470 with 207k miles on it for sale from a Lexus dealer. To me, I immediately disregarded it as over 200k miles wasn't something I wanted. She convinced me to go look at it anyway. $11,700 later it was ours. The way it drove was like a new car. It had been maintained at the dealer it's whole life. All it needed was the air springs replaced which I did using some cheapo ones I got for $63 off Ebay. Five years later those springs are still going and nothing, I mean not one thing has broken on this car. It still drives SO nice.
Well that was a bad idea getting air springs off ebay. This car's strongest point is bullet proof reliabilty which becomes nonsense after using cheap not oem parts
That means nothing about it being good. So what? It was babyed at the dealer and virtually any car that's babyed like that will last. People are dishonest, saying how great they are but don't mention they are babyed and coddled. People driving those coddle the whazoo out of those and you can tell that because they are the slowest people on the road. If traffic is being held up on the road, most of the time it's some suckerota or over priced suckerota with huge ugly plastic tacked on driver blocking traffic babying it so it doesn't break.
@@RaiderWolf-yd6nm I have seen a whole lot of Mercedes, BMWs, and Audis that were babied at the dealer and are complete junk at 100k; Chevy's and Fords are junk after 150k. I have a 06 GX470 with 160k and all weather tires, I would put it against ANY stock Jeep off road and any Mercedes/BMW/Audi with similar miles on ride quality.
Just bought the wife a 2023 GX460, the end of an era of excellent Toyota V8s. I **LOVE** that it's effectively unchanged since 2009. About a year ago, I snagged a 1999 LS400 with 115k miles at an estate sale for $7k. Needed about $1k in parts - rusted out mid exhaust, timing belt, cooling system overhaul, and I spent $2k for a set of OZ Opera wheels and Michelin pilot sports - but for $10k all-in; it's a helluva nice car. Also have 2 first-gen IS300s; one stock and one heavily modded. I guess I've drank the Toyota kool-aid...
Every time I see a GX550-and they are lovely-I feel like going out to the garage to hug my lovingly maintained '15 GX460 Lux with its buttery V8 and 6 speed transmission.
@@yelapa999 100% agreed. The new GX550 looks sweet. I greatly prefer the styling of it to the 460 model. But the chassis, powertrain and drivetrain of the 460 is beyond proven. A friend is a tech @ Toyota; he says they're having a lot of trouble with the new turbo V6 - particularly the ones with the hybrid system.
@@GroovesAndLands I've heard some about bottom end problems on some kind of biturbo configuration. OTOH, us 'Murcans are so besotted with horsepower that we forget Toyota has been shipping reliable, economic gas and diesel engines in Prados for years with no complaints. Toyota is all about reliability. Slide on that, and the brand is cooked.
To be fair, part of the reliability issue comes from Audi, MB, and BMW recommending oil changes every 10,000 miles. If you change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals, I’d bet the engines would last longer. I suspect they recommend 10K service in order to sell more vehicles.
@@JBM425 its not just the engines that are the issue. they overengineer cars using low quality parts and not to mention the extremely expensive parts and cumbersome servicing requirements. They are a far superior drive than toyotas hence why car wizard said buy euros new and sell after 4-5 years.
@JBM425 I just liked the ....emphasis given by Wizard about the Range! Still I agree with you. I am from Geece....I own six cars, one of them a Land Rover Discovery petrol, that , to be honest, needs much much attention and careful use to drive well. And yet, some minor problems exists . At all my cars, I change oil, filters etc every 10000 km, sparks every 20000km and belts, where exist, maximum every 5 years. Consider that I bought an Opel Crossland brand new for my wife 3 years ago and the dealer said "first oil change after one year or 25000km"! Impossible!! The same told me in 2018 about her previous car, a Hyundai I20. I changed after 1000, 3000 and then every 10000 ever since
I caught that too. The REAL shame is the mid 2000's Jaguar XK model. I think it is "the best" looking car in maybe the history of the automobile. Reliable? OMG don't even ask. Of all things, the timings belts. Yes plural. Yeah that has NEVER been a good reliable design of an engine. It's not a good idea to have a timing belt in the middle and then one on each side of the motor. As far as I know no way to fix this design problem of the motor. Maybe do an engine swap? Yeah, the car on the outside and inside is just gorgeous. It also just doesn't run. lol. Certainly not in any reliable kind of way. Jaguar XK - she will let you reach your destination. Getting home is a roll of the dice. lol Maybe put a Lexus v-8 somehow in the Jag. What a shame. I personally think Porsche makes some very fine engines, even though people have mixed feelings about them. And one car worth checking out (and I didn't even know existed till a few months ago) The VW Phaeton. Again early to late 2000's, VW made the vehicle only for 8 years. Came with a V-8, but had an optional 12 cylinder as well. And VW did a great job taking the Phaeton and differentiating it from all other luxury car brands. Ex. The top of the front dash, from driver to passenger side is one big speaker! (or set of speakers). What a great idea for what is otherwise just "wasted space". In other cars, you're lucky if you get a pair of tweeters. No idea about reliability. But the "fit and finish" of the car is not just good, but almost amazing. So if the engine goes by the same philosophy you should be good. It was also very expensive new. One thing I will say about VW. They make or use some of the best seats in the car industry. Even their manual seats blow all others away. lol I'm thinking about trying to do a swap sometime soon to VW seats just for that reason.Thank God for "Pull and Pay" car parts!
Yes. It is a real wood veneer. Mine cracked when I added hands free phone on my 2004 GX with 347,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten. Love this car.
Triple digit Arizona Sonora desert where everything Melts I refuse to set off on a road trip in anything other then a Toyota , Honda and even Nissan And I was born and raised in metro Detroit 😂😂
I'm a simple guy, so I don't understand how GM et al, let their reputations go to pot over the years. They used to make the BEST cars... I guess they make more money by selling us POS cars. they cured me of that 30+ years ago. Sad...
I have an 05' GX. 213K miles. LOVE IT! I'll never sell it. It's easy to work on. It's very reliable. It's a very capable off-roader stock. Bought mine in 2021 before the used car prices went bananas.
Its tough for me to get people to realize how much better Toyota & Honda are compared to other vehicles on the road. When I tell them I rather buy a mid 2000's Toyota vs a brand new GM they look at me like I'm crazy.
Me and all my friends drive those. I was the black sheep until last year with an older ES. One of my friends has a Corolla from before graduation 10 years ago, and another only went from Honda to Yoda because it got rear-ended.
My 2005 RX 330 runs like a top with 224K on the clock. All it needed was routine maintenance & the timing belt done. I got 1 because the wizard said they were reliable, and the Wizard 🧙♂️ told no lies 👍
I’ve had 2 GX470’s that were both bought new in ‘03 & ‘08. These things are end-of-the-world bulletproof in reliability. I’ve looked at replacing my ‘08 a couple times with a GX460, but besides the awful front end, they just drive so big and lethargic compared to a 470 which has almost the same power, but 4-500lbs less weight to carry around. Fingers crossed on the new GX550 that the reliability will be close, but I’m not buying one the first year.
@@993mike I’m looking to replace my 2007 Land Cruiser (bought new) and love the look of the new GX. But they replaced the bulletproof V8 with a new twin-turbo V6. The latest Tundras and Sequoias have that same engine and there have been serious issues to do with the main bearings. Sad, because it only gets about 1 mpg more than the old V8…
That engine and all of its variants are legendary. It's roots go back to the LS which the entire brand was built around. 900 iterations until they had what they wanted and they kept improving it.
@@stevemiller1626 I've owned an LS400, GX470, LX470 (200 series) and I am now in a GX460. Every one of them a derivative of the same engine. The most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. The move to a turbo 4/6 just to chase horsepower is a mistake IMO. There is negligible fuel mileage improvement and going to forced induction will greatly reduce the long term durability and reliability compared to the NAV8. Oh well, I'll just keep driving my "old" GX and go on my merry way.
Recently I traded my 2005 GX470 with 288,000 miles it. I bought a 2017Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with 74k. It will last another 200k. Yes…I love Toyota products.
I’ve got an ‘08 gx470 just like this with 120,000 miles. The weak points so far have been the airbags (replaced with a coil conversion), the exhaust system (manifolds cracked all over), the steering rack wore out (I replaced myself) and I had to replace the radiator. I plan on replacing the manifolds and exhaust at some point. I have to say my ‘07 Acura MDX has been virtually repair free at 230,000 miles. I still like the Lexus more though.
The Toyota 4Runner from 03-08 with the same 4.7 V8 is better because it costs 15% less and doesn't have expensive air suspension in the rear that always fails. 03-08 4Runner V8 is so far under the radar it's crazy. Best SUV ever made other than a Land Cruiser, which has the same motor.
@@CarGeek360 If wood is important to you then yeah the GX is nicer than the 4th gen 4Runner, but the 4Runner interior is much more intelligently set up, is more ergonomic, and has more storage. I've driven both and I much prefer the 4Runner. I'll be keeping my 4Runner another 10 years probably. It's the V6, I'm only at 161k.
My buddy has a 2009 GX with 310,000 miles. He swapped out the rear bags with my stock FJ rear coils and shocks. Cant even tell the difference in ridr quality. Drives like it was brand new but the tall and narrow body does translate to dorky handling when pushed hard. Still a lovely truck to drive.
Something to watch out for on the GX470. The dash and door panels. From 2003-2012 Lexus and Toyota on many of their vehicles the dash and door panels will turn sticky and melty. There was a TSB/recall of sorts that was for 10 years and so many miles after purchase. So if you find that one owner garage kept example and now you start exposing it to the sun. The interior will fall apart and you’ll be in for a big bill if you want to fix it right. I had a 2003 GX470 and the dash looked great when I bought it then one hot summer day BAM the dash was all shiny and I touched it and my finger prints were left in the dash. It cost a few bucks to replace the dash out of warranty.
I think there’s a Fix for that ….. use a Solvent to remove that sticky layer. While Yes, the plastic will continue to decay/degrade, you won’t have that obnoxious stickiness. I think there are also Protectants you can use to retard the decay/degrading. Good luck! :)
The Car Care Nut bought a Lexus LS-430 with 600k miles. It needed a lot of work but the powertrain was still solid. My wife's parents bought a 2000 Land Cruiser with 240k miles. Transmission failed right after they bought it. Replaced it and they put 80k miles on it before frame rust forced them to trade it for a Highlander. My MIL still misses her Land Cruiser.
I retired in 2020 and they gave me my 06 Tundra with the 4.7 V8. I use it to run around town on errands daily. 444k miles and well maintained. No major issues ever. Front shocks just starting to weep, will replace them soon myself. By the, the spare has a TPS. The 4.7L is one of the most reliable motors ever.
I bought my 2008 GX470 in 2015 with 85k miles. Currently at 241k miles. I tow a 3500 lb travel trailer quite a bit. I've had to replace the radiator, the air bag, the heat exchanger (a horrible job, tons of labor), a front axle, and now I need rear shocks. Brake rotors chronically warp after a few thousand miles. So its been good but not great. The biggest detractor is the low mpg: 17 highway, 10 towing.
My pal had a 1991 Accord wagon with 5spd manual. He bought it with 375k showing, but the P.O. said the odo hadn't worked in 5 years, so it was probably more like 425k or so. My pal drove it for another 10 years and probably another 150k for a total of ~575k. A couple belts, a clutch, a CV axle is all it ever needed. He sold it to a Mexican and we still see it buzzing around town from time to time.
@GroovesAndLands some of these vehicles are pretty amazing. I bought my pilot in 08 with 45k for $13000. If I won the lottery I'd probably just by the nicest pilot with this same drive train. Best snow and ice vehicle I've ever been in. I've spent mornings pulling 4x4 diesel trucks through the snow.
@@shaun9660 I'm still putting miles on a 1995 subaru Legacy wagon I got in 2007 for $1700 with 175k miles. She's got 325k now and all I've ever done is a few CV boots, shifter linkage and timing belt. Super little car. Early 1990s thru eary 2000s was the sweet spot for jap cars. Just the right amount of sophistication and technology to make for a good running/driving car -but not enough to make it unserviceable and finicky like today's cars.
I have a 2008 with 215k on it. The last 20k were from doing deliveries, and since 125k I used it a good bit towing trailers. The pearl white paint was defective and peeled off, Lexus said I wasn't covered. I had a good local shop paint it White for $1700 and it looks great 5 years later. The air bags went about 2 years ago, replaced in about 1 hour with the help of a friend with after market bags, been great so far. Very reliable, I am about to do some maintenance items like Timing belt/water pump. Mine is low mileage as far as I am concerned, I plan to keep it a long time, the new stuff is garbage.
345K on my 07' GX470. Runs like the day I bought it 13 years and 285K miles ago. Piece of cake to maintain and absolutely bullet proof - average 18 mpg mixed and 21 hwy so relatively economical to operate for a 6200 lbs body on frame truck. Pulls our horse trailer like a freight train and the self leveling rear suspension and adjustable ride height makes it all a piece of puss. Best vehicle I've owned and no doubt in my mind this thing is going to outlive me.
My sister, who lives in outback Australia, has one of these; interestingly, the very same year and color as your demonstrated model. I hadn't seen her for ten years - I'm based in S/E Asia - and made the pilgrimage home over last year's Christmas break. We traveled everywhere in that wagon, sometimes as many as 500 k's a day just to catch up on our teenage past; then, after 12 days, she did an all-nighter to the airport - 650k. The Lexus is superb. Her vehicle has just turned over 338,000 kilometers and the same foggy, sun-bleached headlight lens does detract from the look, apart from chips, scratches and dried rubber/plastic trim
I just bought a super clean 2016 GX460. Its the most solid car Ive ever owned it has 85k miles and there are ZERO squeaks, rattles or leaks. My mechanic said this car will last me forever as long as I keep the maintenance up on it. Frankly Im afraid to buy any new car. They just arent built the same.
@@coalknob glad we picked up the gx460s now. If these turbo 4-banger Toyotas turns out being a flop then our naturally aspirated will be the most desirable Toyotas on the market. Personally I hate the idea of owning a 4-cylinder SUV
Just had my timing belt/water pump replaced on my 2002 Lexus ES300 with 182k miles. I’m the 2nd owner, the original owner replaced the timing belt and water pump at 87k miles. Car is solid like a tank and quiet like a vault. Lexus is king of reliability and best value for the money.
We recently bought a 04 Lexus RX330 with 210k I had to do general maintenance stuff like the struts, tie rods and brakes other than that it’s been a great vehicle. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it on a long trip.
Im at almost 270k miles on mine and i have no issues or needed repairs to update about since my comment on the last GX vid. Still just an alternator and an airspring in the time ive owned it since 190k 5yrs ago.
I totally agree with you about the GX470, I have had a couple and currently have a 2008. I just love the body style and I think it has that timeless look, will never get old to my eye. I bought my 2008 with 190k miles on it in 2018 , it was a 2 owner North Carolina vehicle with 0 accidents. 1st owner was a lease and the 2nd owner was long term. Obviously garaged and never used as a tow vehicle, superb interior and body, flawless carfax in every way. 1st Timing belt service was done at 90k and every oil change service was done on time. I did timing belt #2 when I bought it and got all the service up to date. It now has 214k miles on it and is still in great condition. I just use it as my travel vehicle, usually no more than 2/3k miles per year. They do travel like a dream on the highway, solid cushy ride with all the power you could ask for. Perfect for the mountains and I do take mine out on the beach here and there. I never have to let any of the air out of the tires, just raise the vehicle suspension and put it in 4low and go!
I bought a new 22 GX blackline in 22. Like it so much I'm buying a 2nd one tomorrow, low mileage used, same Nori green as the first. It's more of an insurance policy than a need for another exact same GX, buying it just in case one gets wrecked or stolen we'll still have the other. No longer producing the NA V8 GX''s anymore.
Got a 97 t4r. She has 350k on the clock. Just redone the suspension. And I have to say. She is quiet again and is just a joy to drive. I’ll never sell her. Love my Toyota. That’s all I want to own. Would love to do an Edison motors style retro fit to one.
My 167k miles, my '06 GX470 also drive like brand new after ... - rebuilt the rear V6 differential (bad bearings) - new timing belt and water pump - new pulleys, tensioner, and serpentine belt - new fan clutch - new brake calipers rotors and pads (all 4 were seizing) - new rear brake lines (both flex and hard lines) - new alternator - new brake rotors and pads - new sway bar connectors - new front axles - new wheels (original ones were shot and corroded) - new cat-back/muffler - new rear door latch - converted failed rear air suspension with coils and shocks - flushed power steering - 80 hours of rust removal, and 4 layers of protection on the undercarriage. - patched hole in frame - replaced rear camera w/used one Other than that, pretty reliable.
The car was driven by a soccer mom until 157k miles and garaged. We had it outdoors for 2 years and had to make all those repairs in the last 10k miles. It does not hold up to rust in the North East.
200 series LXs and LCs pull a premium these days! I’ve been shopping for 2nd gen Sequoias just for the 5.7 3UR. Car Care Nut says watch out for emissions stuff and the dreaded cam tower oil leaks along with the usual rust. But those engines have so much power compared to my 100 series 2UZ
I’ve found lanolin based products like Fluid Film and Surface Shield sprayed inside the chassis and front and rear subframes of these types of vehicles help tremendously here in the saltbelt
The ones made in Japan didn't really have the same issue. The early 2000's one anyway. I have a GX and a sequoia and the sequoia frame is nearly gone but the GX frame is fine.
1 thing this video failed to acknowledge that is that the GX is quite capable off road. Now sure on the surface this may seem like an ordinary SUV but it’s actually a more upscale version of the international market Land Cruiser Prado which that vehicle has been proven to be an off road conquerer. As with the exceptional reliability as mentioned in the video. This is an ideal off road machine that can last an insane amount of miles
Absolutely love GX470 / Tundra 4.7 V8 and 5th Gen 4Runner 4L V6 engine reliability. Wish it had regular springs in the back vs air bags. However I'm most likely not buy a newer Toyota 4WD with 2.4T and 3.4TT engine. When it come to reliability I dislike height adjustable suspension, KDSS & XREAS in Toyota world. But sure they are far more reliable than Geman ABC system / Air Suspension. We are talking 150K, 200K miles + in Toyota Lexus world.
Just going to come right out and say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mrs. Wizard's interior reviews. One because I am being honest and I mean that, and secondly, I couldn't resist poking the trolls who criticize that part of the video.
The V8 Lexus and Toyota SUV's of this era are PEAK Toyota quality. Enough tech (or at least able to install tech) to keep you happy and will drive forever. Bought my '05 Sequoia at 233k and it's been the best vehicle I've ever had.
My 01 Sequoia had 295k and ran flawlessly when I traded up to an 03 with 70k. These are the best out there, it’s a shame the 4.7l isn’t in production any longer.
I have over 200,000 miles on my GX470 and everything works as it should and have had no issues other than maintenance. It’s also awesome off road! Will never sell it.
I have a MERCEDES CLK 200 W 208 kompressor 192 hp with 310.000 km and she is like she just came out from the factory.Offcourse i use her just for voyages around Europe and i keep her all the time in the garage. Have a nice day from GREECE
Faithful mules for the win. This one is obviously well loved and maintained. I like the steel belly covers (especially for something that is supposed to be off roading here and there).
I commute 35k miles a year. I love my Toyota. Past 12 months service has been oil changes at 10k intervals with Mobil1 EP, 95%highway miles. That's it! Oil changes for past year. I previously took care of maintenance at 100k with plugs, pcv. Trans drop and fill, brakes, fush power steering, coolant and brake fluid. It will keep going and going.
Don't do 10k.. do 5-6k or 6 month whichever comes first. All combustion engines leak some fuel into oil, which dilutes and lessens its effectiveness...
@@charlestimmis273 True, but highway miles are much less hard on engines, (I've heard equivalent to 10% of city), so I could see how 10k intervals might make sense with high quality oil.
I was driving one of these in Muscat Oman in 2016/17 and we did a lot of desert and off-road work and it was rock solid and the aircon was amazing. I miss that vehicle.
The thing that baffles me the most is that despite the Germans making cars for decades, they still do not know how to create a gasket that lasts longer than 30.000 miles. It is just insane.
They do, however the German 'bean-counter' says: "Engineer it's to expensive". Consequently the German OEMs use very poor quality plastics and rubber components - such a shame.
@@Commentleaver-c6xAnd to help that business model, they also recommend 10K intervals for oil changes instead of 5K. To me, more frequent oil changes are cheaper than serious repairs or a blown engine.
Hey Wizzard. A brand NEW GMC Acadia isn't going to drive as well as a 170k mile GX. This is nothing new. Back in the Fox body Mustang days, I went and test drove a nice new GT manual, thinking of trading in my 150k mile 81 BMW 320i. We get back and the sales guy asks how I like it. My response was that my 150k mile 320i was tighter and felt newer than the new Mustang. I will admit that this was back in the days when BMW built reliable, easily DIY worked on vehicles which they abandoned in the mid 90's.
I have a 2004 LX 470 with 250,000 miles and a 2006 Sequoia with 235,000 miles. They are so easy to work on, super comfy, and the 2UZ-FE engine is dead reliable.
We never got the Lexus version of this car. Here, it is simply a Toyota Prado. Son of Landcruiser. Sometimes called Landcruiser Prado. The big Landcruiser does have a Lexus version we get. We also have the third version of the Landcruiser range - the commercial ones, as tubs, trays, trooper etc. Australia is the biggest market for Land cruisers, due to mining and the outback. Have to be reliable. The Nissan Patrol, however is a close rival, also legendary. Has better towing ability and rear differential. Stacks up well against its much newer rival. Still superior in some ways, so when the new one surfaces, it should be very good, minus the not very good fuel consumption. Maybe range extender hybrid - more practical for outback.
Fun fact on that factory spare tire, it is not only a full size tire but it is also a matching rim! If you are running the stock tire size, remember to rotate the spare tire along with your other tires for even wear and slightly longer overall tire life. Stock size is a 265/65/17 or about a 31" tire, most off road enthusiasts will opt for a bigger size like 265/70/17 or about a 32" tire and upward. I believe the largest fully inflated tire that will fit in the factory spare tire location is a 265/65/17 but I may be wrong. I know some people opt to air down the spare tire to get it to fit and carry a few form of redundant inflation devices in the event of a flat. I like the idea of having a full size fully inflated spare so I chose to keep the stock tire size with all terrain tire for my purposes. When I bought the car I had no idea that the spare was a matching rim, just figured I would share for anyone else!
I'm purchasing a 2007 Toyota Highlander (Limited) today (5/25/24). It has 124,500 miles on it. I saw your video about what 6 vehicles you should buy. I got a sweet deal. Thank you Mr Wizard for you awesome advice ❤
I have the european version, it has the exactly same design as this one but it is a Toyota, Land Cruiser Prado, year 2007, with 370.000 km with the 4 cilinder 3.0 Diesel and after some heavy offroading, long travels, used as a custruction work vehicle and such, has given very little issues and it is still rock solid. One of my best memories is with 8 friends in the car going off road in the mountain doing 60 km/h through tough terrain with loud music and everyone was having such a great time. No wonder this car has won several times the Paris-Dakar race.
Thinking of getting one of these..mpg isn't the best but you not buying this for mpg.. The only issue I see that's expensive is fixing that air suspension!! When it fails Thank you for the review
Bought a 2012 GX 460. The one car that really makes me smile. Unfortunately it's turning out to be a little stuffy for us and many complain the ride is a little to jarring. Will be shattered to let it go.
It's a truck based platform so it does ride a little rough compared to newer or more luxury oriented unibody cars. Back then Toyota prioritized quality over features and so you don't really get a whole lot more on the Lexus compared to the Land Cruiser, which the GX is based on.
I owned a 2009 toyota matrix 2.4 i never do anything only tires change brakes and rotors and one battery and alternator change that all oil and spark plugs air filter i changed by myself thanks for sharing your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

What I love about this guy is that he shoots straight. When he compliments a car, such as this one, you can take it to the bank. He'll look at other brands and just give them a well-earned smack down. But not this truck! Cuz it's true!!
I own a 2005 GX 470, I know several persons that own a GX470. None of them, myself included, plan on trading, selling or disposing of the vehicle. One friend traded a 2006 GX 470 for a newer GX460, she regrets her mistake. Keep it well maintained and you will have a reliable vehicle for life!
2001 4runner sr5 with 267k miles and it still runs like a top, original everything. Whenever someone asks me what they should get for a simple bare bones reliable car the answer is always toyota
It's so true. Many modern vehicles have uncomfortable seats and it boggles my mind. The only modern vehicle seat I like is in the new Lincolns and the Mercedes Benz S Class seats both of which are out of my price range. Even the newer Lexuses have no thigh support and the bottom cushion of the seat is way too short.
It is EXTREMELY refreshing to see a TH-cam channel that tells you that not everyone wants to go to a racetrack and corner and be fast. Most people want a reliable, cost effective vehicle to get them around safely without being in the garage every month, and this is what Toyota and Lexus provide. If you're looking for speed and handling these aren't your choices, and they are designed that way :)
My Dad left me his 2006 GX470 when he went on to be with the Lord last year , it had about 200K on it….i drive every week to preach, so I put about 200 miles a week on it, it’s at 209K now…..still going strong….LOVE IT….he wanted me to have reliable wheels after a disaster with a 2014 Hyundai Sonata (motor blew at 82K die to manufacture defect, took a year and half for them to send the reimbursement to the wrong person who cashed it, they told me too bad.)
After he died I found out he’d had it put in my name….
You must have LOTS of money to burn on 12 mpg and pollute the world….Brag about that …get real
@@yelapa999 100% agreed. The new GX550 looks sweet. I greatly prefer the styling of it to the 460 model. But the chassis, powertrain and drivetrain of the 460 is beyond proven.

I changed after 1000, 3000 and then every 10000 ever since
If it ain’t Toyota or Lexus it ain’t reliable per the wizard.

I think Toyota made a mistake replacing the V8 with the T4/T6 in the new Land Cruiser and GX550. Will not be as durable as a NA engine. :/
That engine and all of its variants are legendary. It's roots go back to the LS which the entire brand was built around. 900 iterations until they had what they wanted and they kept improving it.

Good luck! :)

But sure they are far more reliable than Geman ABC system / Air Suspension. We are talking 150K, 200K miles + in Toyota Lexus world.
Nice! I just picked up an '03 4Runner with the 4.7L V8 and 130k on the clock. It's incredible how smooth it is and how close to new it feels!
Good timing, just posted my first Lexus podcast with my son's car over 200,000 miles. It got vandalized twice this month but still runs good.
In their defense making a car that never breaks down isn’t a good business model.
@@Commentleaver-c6xAnd to help that business model, they also recommend 10K intervals for oil changes instead of 5K. To me, more frequent oil changes are cheaper than serious repairs or a blown engine.
They can make a gasket that goes longer than 30,000 miles......they want your money so make it last .00007 miles after warranty is out.
Mercedes did know this in the 80s and part of the 90s. I owned a W123 300 TDT that had nearly 600.000 km on the original head gasket.
We still have a 2005. Other than the cracked dash and replacing the two rear adjustable shocks. It’s a solid ride.
Which do you like more ?
I bought a used 18 year old Lexus RX330 based off the Wizards recommendation and we love it! It is nicer than most new vehicles I would buy.
It was sold as a land cruiser Prado in most of the world.
It's peak toyota build quality.
Thank you, Car Wizard!!!
Just grabbed an '04 with over 300k and 1 owner fully serviced...runs superbly!!
i had one with the 4.0 v6 and other than the rear airbags blowing on a trip, generally its a very reliable 4wd!
Thinking of getting one of these..mpg isn't the best but you not buying this for mpg..
The only issue I see that's expensive is fixing that air suspension!! When it fails
Thank you for the review
My 2008 GX 470 has 204k miles!! I call it “The Mile Grabber!” 🙌🏼
As a former tire tech, I’ve seen many of these running perfectly with 200,000 miles. They are solid when maintained well
I just got a 2011 Acura MDX with about 157k miles. Hopefully it's as reliable as this so i can keep it for a long time.
These are Toyota land cruisers in Ireland bulletproof and hold their money
I owned a 2009 toyota matrix 2.4 i never do anything only tires change brakes and rotors and one battery and alternator change that all oil and spark plugs air filter i changed by myself thanks for sharing your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Love your channel mate but i bought a 2008 Audi A6 diesel back in 2011 and put 200,000 k on it no probs 1100k to a tank and was bullet proof Sold at 480,000k, The Q7 2010 was the same no oil burn no loss of compression on the V6 diesel sold at 600,000 k still church mouse quiet and synthetic oil every 10,000k and never had any issues No electrical probs nothing 🤔🤔
My 09 GX470 is the best vehicle ive ever owned!
We have a Land Cruiser Prado with over 600k km as a work truck, still works fine, original engine and everything.
I love my LS430. The quality is second to none. 214,000 plus on the clock and it still drives like new.
I have a 2009 gx and I hope it lasts forever...really enjoy it except for the gas mileage (like most Toyota v8's)
Just finished building one of these from a bare shell and bare frame!!!
Even the older GX’s and it’s cousin the 4Runner go for top dollar.
Hey Wizard, that drive shaft has zerk fittings. Give it a shot of grease!
