I feel extremely bad for clear sight, people are always saying how tragic Darkstalker is, but its nothing compared to clear sight, she tried so hard to make things turn out well, and it was all just thrown away.
I feel like we should be focusing more on Clearsight and Fathom since to me they had to suffer more because of what Darkstalker had done. Their lives were completely changed through the traumatic events.

Yes but considering the damage Darkstalker had done, and if I remember he has killed people which is very similar to erasing man entire person, is it really that wrong? Darkstalker was given multiple chances to redeem himself and failed to, is it wrong to question that maybe he would never change his ways and he was too mad with power?
@@afunkylittleguy Yeah, that's really interesting. Although, what Kinkajou did kind of implies that there is no afterlife or reincarnation for him. He just ceases to exist. Like what happened to Bristlefrost in Warriors. It is an fascinating moral dilemma.

Kinkajou’s plan, while morally and ethically a bit iffy, was done for for Darkstalker’s mother’s sake, and in my opinion, explains why that was the chosen route. It is absolutely horrifying though, and Darkstalker having no say is definitely a bit ehhh, but let’s not forget he was trying to commit genocide. They were not thinking in the most ethical and morally upright ways to get rid of him. They just wanted the threat gone, and were under a lot of pressure themselves.
I think it would be interesting to see if Kinkajou or any of the rest of the Jade Winglet would ever regret how they handled Darkstalker in the future, since the way they did opens a lot of fascinating doors about morality and ethics and that’s right up my alley. Although it is still a kids series, so that’s a bit of a stretch.
I can’t decide if being asleep forever or being fundamentally changed as a person and turned into a child sounds worse. They are just bad options.
Clearsight is probably my favorite character in the series. She’s just extremely compelling-and this analysis is the best I’ve seen for her!

In my opinion, I like Clearsight plan better than Kinkajou’s, Kinkajou’s plan just reminded me WAY to much of what Scarlet did to Hailstorm. Clearsight’s plan however is not what I would have done. At the time Clearsight was unstable and didn’t know how to deal with her boyfriend, so it makes sense that she would try and do what ever she could to put off the problem. I would have at the very least try and talk to Darkstalker first before sentencing him to sleep, instead I would have stripped away his power, not forever though! Just until he could heal his mental state.

Yes! Darkstalker wasn't Beyond Redemption and what a lot of people seem to forget is that he was still a kid and not an adult being abused and use as a weapon his whole life with all three people that actually care about him all telling you that the future that you want is wrong and evil is definitely going to mess you up. In the end what they all just needed to do was find some form of compromise but when you look at the situation no one was willing to even consider that as an option not Fathom not Clearsight not Darkstalker and definitely not Arctic everybody decided that it had to be their way or the highway which would need to be the first problem fixed and after that things likely would easily fall into place.
I feel as though making sure it was forever would be the only solution though
@Dragonfox I don't think you understand just how cruel that really is an endless darkness and dream while you're still conscious would be actual torture. Darkstalker could change and likely would change he just needs to be stripped of his powers for a while and then exposed to dragons that would encourage his change for the better he needed time to mature cuz he was still a kid the same is true of Fathom and Clearsight none of them were fully matured or thinking about a proper way to solve all of their problems. What they needed was time, maturity, and compromise.
@@korbinservergundam yes maybe but remember he fell to the darkness BECAUSE he felt betrayed and forgotten by his father and he felt overshadowed when his father favoured whiteout because she looked so much like an icewing while Artic HATED darkstalker because he didn’t have a sliver of icewimg in him

it is interesting to me how your character analysis videos center more around on the emotional development of the characters throughout the various formative phases of their lives, as opposed to the Jade Mountain Archive who seems to focus more on character arcs and motivations relative to a larger plot. This would be a very important literary device to focus on for the character arcs that are more emotionally driven. Thanks for your insight Cyprus, and as always, Love the artwork! =)
Just a little error, Darkstalker was buried under Agate mountain, not Jade mountain. Just a little error I wanted to point out. Great video!
Agate mountain was right next to jade mountain, and with erosion and 2000 years I think he could've moved a teeny tiny bit. Plus, he wasn't DIRECTLY under jade mountain, or else the school would have collapsed and the dragons inside would've been crushed.

Honestly both Clearsight and Darkstalker have their own flaws like you said but had they worked together rather than against each other and try to compromise the entire books ending would have been different Clearsight took on far too much responsibility like you said but she was also so unwilling to compromise that she doomed herself to the same Futures she was trying to avoid. At the same time so did Darkstalker the two of them had little-to-no understanding about how to properly communicate because of their upbringing oh I do genuinely believe that the two of them loved each other and that neither of them would ever be able to kill one another. What I hate is how they don't get reconciled Darkstalker and Clearsight love each other more than anyone else in their lives and Clearsight never found the love she wanted on pantala that's why she just kept having dragonets but she eventually learn to move on and accept that she couldn't have changed things except she could have that she just been more willing to compromise and accept help or to step back and realize that she can't change everything and that she's only one dragon. Darkstalker anthracite we're both good dragons one who broke due to taking on too much responsibility and anxiety and the other mentally emotionally and morally in the end both spiraled into a downward pit of despair this is why I truly want Darkstalker to have a Redemption Arc to not just be shown but also see the light and finally choose a different path than the one he was practically forced down. And I would like to see Darkstalker in Clearsight end up together again, but unfortunately, with Wings of Fire seemingly coming to an end, that may not happen.
May I say something? I think that their relation ship is THE SADDEST in the whole fandom. I mean clear sight saw all of these visions, all of what darkstalker could have been but wasn’t. She gave up so many powerful futures she wanted to come true, but she gave all that up to protect her tribe. Darkstalker went mad with power and she risked her life even. When she stole the scroll she knew she had a chance of dying. Last chance of seeing her mother, her father, listener, fathom, her queen, and her whole tribe. That is why this is the saddest story in the fandom.

I'm glad to find someone else recognize that Darkstalker is abusive and manipulative both to Clearsight and his friends. He hurt them extremely and used them throughout the book.

Hmmm, you know, I don't think she had thought about if he would wake up, the bracelet wasn't supposed to break, but it did! She might've had nightmares about him but I don't think she believed he would wake up again, and honestly I think it happened the way it should, as darkstalker wouldn't have anyone at all, expect maybe clearsight who would see him as a baby and feel very hurt for the actions she did! And they had no clue that darkstalkers mother, foeslayer, was even still alive! I think everything happened in perfect order, maybe there were other solutions, but I do like what had happened in the end
I've always wondered if maybe the animus dragons only went crazy because of a series of events: 1. the first animus realized he had all th epower in the world at his fingertips, and he became evil for it. he knew he could get anything he wanted and it showed. 2. after the first animus 'lost his soul' and passed on and such, the next few generations of animus did not want to be as evil as the first, and they truly thought it was the magic that turned them evil, so everytime they used it, their brain would trick them into believing they lost some of their soul. 3. after several generations and thousands of years, it became second thought that animus dragons would turn evil from using to much of their power and steps were involved to never have the first animus return in the form of the new (we all see how the different tribes dealt with it) and so the dragons made themselves believe they could physically feel themselves turning evil (like with anemone).
Looking at Darkstalker and Stonemover, I think this may have been the case. Stonemover cast a spell that everytime he used magic, he would turn a bit more to stone instead of turning evil. Darkstalker enchanted a scroll to he would not be the one directly using the magic, thus keeping his soul intact. But, Darkstalker still turned evil (even if he didn't think it was possible). We dont get to see anything of Stonemover after Darkstalker broke his spell, but i think he's still doing just fine (and probably refuses to ever use his magic again). Take another look between Albatross and Fathom. Fathom knew what it meant to be an animus, and he knew the stress of the job would be his breaking point, even as he still believes in the losing his soul part. Albatross acts like he knows he's turning evil and won't let anyone know he's using to much of his magic. Now look at Anemone and Turtle. Anemone used her magic a lot while she was growing up, and so far all i can see is she's a selfish brat that spent to long under her mothers eye. Turtle used his powers quite often as well, and he is still very sweet and caring, not at all evil. They both know the soul losing story, the whole reason Turtle wouldn't tell anyone he had it. But I dont see either of them as evil, and look how much they used them. Orca, Anemone's sister. she went crazy, but i think it was all due to the stress of everthing she went under, not nessicerily evil. The Icewings, didnt one of them enchant a crown to make all the Icewing queens hate Nightwings? and they were only allowed to use their power once.
This all is about animus dragons, but it leads to Clearsight as well. I agree with your vid, and a lot of the commentsm that she didn't have much time to think her plan through all the way, or even that she didn't want to kill her partner. We know that Seer's can't see infinitly into the future, and that it stops at some point, so Clearsight had no way of knowing what would happen to Darkstalker when he awoke. Perhaps she wanted to believe that the dragons in the future would be able to 'cure' him and make him see the error of his ways. Maybe she thought if she lived long enough, she could see a solution to the problem and be able to retreive Darkstalker herself. Wouldn't his sister also have animus powers? I know the power doesn't nessicarily pass to every dragonet, as very obvious with the Seawings, but Darkstalker saw the future if he had helped his sister hatch, and they would have bith been powerful and unstoppable. This turned into an essay and I didn't mean for it, but it's been on my mind for a while and i'll just leave it at this for now. Theres so much about Darkstalker and Clearsight that is so tragicaly intresting, and it wasn't exactl covered very well in the books.
Clear sight is fascinating because from a very young age she had experienced several MANY lifetimes, in a way she had already experienced life, which probably excelled her mental maturity level in an uneven way as she was still fully a dragonets but one who’s seen everything

I can’t even tell you how many times I cried in Darkstalker legends, and i am not a cryer. And the fact that it wasn’t the cliche “I never actually loved you and I just want power” story makes it so much sadder. Darkstalker did love Clearsight and he thought he was doing what was right. He was so blinded by his stardom and attention that he completely forgot what he even started the whole thing for. Even though he’s a villain, I still feel bad for him. And Clearsight too. Give that poor baby a hug RIGHT NOW! 😭

Now that you bring up the possibility, I dont think she COULD have done what Kinkajou did, but she SHOULD have (despite how much the fandom loves him) because with an entirely different-minded dragonet (this is pretending she did the EXACT same thing, except for, yknow, making Peace a hybrid) Clearsight may have been able to just babysit him all the time without having anybody in danger, and as a dragonet, she could easily mold him away from any futures where he got his memories back, turned 'evil' again, etc. She definitely could not have been able to bring herself to erasing him though, even if she'd thought of it. I think its her anxiety/uncertainty that made her find a rather temporary-feeling solution, as she may have planned to free him if that ever presented itself in her visions as a necessity.
Hmm I never really thought about it that way but I totally see where you’re going and what you’re explaining. I totally agree with it. Clearsight may not have made the right decision in the end but it (somewhat) worked out

I don’t think Kinkajou OR Clearsight had a good solution
Darkstalker’s problems were mainly with his dad, and understandably so, Arctic was losing his soul
But then everyone thought Foeslayer was killed by IceWings and that’s what tipped him over the edge
What’s worse, I don’t think anyone else knew what happened to his mother, I don’t think Darkstalker told anyone, I think he bottled it up and the bottle exploded
It got worse when Arctic decided “welp, my wife’s dead, might as well give my daughter to my mom as a baby oven in hopes for an animus to make up for my mistake”
Cuz that made Darkstalker finalize the decision that his dad needed to go
Clearsight was so focused on her self appointed responsibilities and neglected her own boyfriend
But to be fair, Darkstalker did turn Indigo into a statue, but I think that was sometime after his mom died and he was trying to manipulate Fathom into giving him support
All in all, Darkstalker and Fam needed therapy from the start
I think, that Clearsight could have handled this situation better. With the idea of putting him to sleep, that certainly SEEMED like a foolproof plan, but, as we all know, it was NOT. She and Fathom could have enchanted the bracelet to NEVER BREAK, or for him to STAY ASLEEP FOREVER, even if it broke. She must have know that it would happen sometime, but as Cyprus put it, she just put it aside and focused on other things.

See, what could have happened in both the circumstances of ClearSight and Kinkajou is that instead of trapping him, or erasing and replacing his existence… well, simply, erase any and all trace of his magic. Of ALL his abilities. That is what made him dangerous. Not his mind, not his claws, his powers. I’d add an extra layer in Kinkajou’s events as keeping him alive and returning him to his age when he was trapped. But other than that, could have happened in either circumstance. Clearsight didn’t even need to put the bracelet on him, they can enchant things from a distance, so idk.
But that’s what I would have done with those openings.

I think that what she did was the right thing at the moment, the other tribes were having more severe problems with the Seawing massacre and the Icewings, and turning Darkstalker into Peacemaker wouldn't have helped, at least not at the time. Darkstalker needed to be given the power he wanted before he could learn, and while he chose to keep his power before he was tricked I think being around a happier and less troubled world while having it defiantly thought him a few things because he was able to be in control for so long. If he'd become king in the past the other animus' would have tried to stop him and he would have never learned anything even if at the end of both outcomes, he chose power over the happiness of others. I just think losing Clearsight made him better able to be tough by Moon and respect the dragons she cared for more because he knew what it was like to lose someone and didn't want that to happen again, he wouldn't have even given power a second thought without the loss of Clearsight and Moon's influence, so at least he was given the choice to be good even if he chose wrong. (sorry for rambling or if this is confusing...)

I think she did think he might escape but didn't think there was any other way so all she could do was hope the next generations would be able to do something similar.
I love Darkstalker he is honestly one of my fav characters- but- I also believe that clearsight did the right thing. Imagine your bestie turns evil and goes on a killing spree. You would feel responsible. And I understand that darstalker had his reasons but clearsight was literally taking on the fate of the world. Plus in arc 2 when darkstalker recreates clearsight she said smt like, ‘oh darkstalker I didn’t want it to be this way’ idk. Don’t fight me I rly like both characters but I think she made the right choice.

Honestly, one thing that lead to both Clearsight’s and Darkstalker downfalls was their future sight. Clearsight was burdened by hers, feeling she had to be the one to make the choices. Darkstalker having animus magic with his future sight had become unrestrained when it comes to his morality, especially after what happened to his parents, believed he should be the one to make the choices. This begs the question of if they never saw their future together or couldn’t see the future at all. Would they be able to form a healthy relationship, unburdened by a future they believed inevitable?
The question of Darkstalker and Clearsight’s future sight leading to their eventual break up has this question somewhat answered in an existing fanfic. Different Threads, a fanfic with an interesting premise, with at at time of posting is 30 chapters in. What if Indigo was one of Fathom’s guards when he first came to the Night kingdom and Darkstalker saw a future of himself in a relationship with Indigo. It’s interesting in how such a vision affects Darkstalker, Clearsight and their relationship. Though there’s also the interesting aspect of how Indigo’s early prescience in the Night kingdom affects the story and especially when it comes to Foeslayer and Arctic. It’s a good story that’s definitely worth reading, especially when it comes to being a Darkstalker x Indigo what if romance.
What is this title
I do definitively agree with this with this analysis but I do wanna say that she definitely did improve on Pantala with other dragons there for her because if you look at the information she does provide in the book of clearsight she seems to have stopped worry about the future so much and instead focusing on the present I’m assuming this is because she has dragons there to help her through her flaws
when you said, 'stay there until the world ends?'' reminded me of an oc I have, her name is Raindrop and she was cursed by a icewing to be immortal and stay the same age for ever and ever, so she must live on until the world ends and still live on from then and beyond. she was also from before Darkstalker's days which jsut gives you a good look at how long she had been alive, hoping one day she can just die instead of suffering the pain of immortality, so she found things to distract her, leading her down dark paths until she wiggled herself into a new mindset and changed motives. She also had the time to learn skills of all kinds, begging the best at adjusting her scales to do anything, learning to be silent as a mouse, hunting perfectly, she could take down any full grown dragon, maybe not with ease but with skill. She taught everything and anything to herself and even could master the strangest of things, but even with these distractions, nothing stopped her from the thing she did most, trying to find ways to die, from jumping into the nightwing volcano to drowning, to blood loss, to burning alive, she died so many times it wasn't hard to try again and again. So yeah.
I don’t think Clearsight could have come up with the idea kinkajou did because she thought dark stalker was beyond saving and the only way to save the rest of the world was to get rid of him. I also think that Kinkajou is more of a out of the box thinker than Clearsight was.
I definitely agree with you here. I also think what doesn’t help was that she had all of these different outcomes that could have happened that were crowding her mind and she thought it was her responsibility to take care of her tribe and make sure right/good decisions were made putting a lot of pressure on her making her mentally unstable.
i both like Kinkajou AND Clearsights solution. Clearsight put him to sleep for a long time, and once her woke up, we didn't do a WHOLE lot of bad things. Kinkajou's solution let Darkstalker live a whole new life with his mother, without the consequences of his powers. Both of these solutions, combined in the way they were, ended in a happier life for Darkstalker.

I know that darkstalker was based off an ex tui had and some of his quotes were direct quotes so it was probs clearsight leaving her ex
I don't personally see Clearsight as deeply flawed, and the book made it pretty clear to me that she thought her plan was flawless and that Darkstalker would sleep eternally. I see her as someone who was abused and manipulated by someone close to her for her whole life. She gave him everything and he took everything from her. Clearsight being one of the most plainly written abuse victims makes her very sympathetic and relatable to me.
Not to mention her parents ignoring the fact that THAT POOR GIRL NEEDS THERAPY! Do dragons even have therapists?
She didn’t worry about him coming back because she didn’t see his return in the future. She relies so heavily on her seeing ability that why worry about something unless she can see it. Clearsight is the best seer according to the books and she knows it, and even when she grew older she didn’t see any return of him, otherwise it probably would’ve been in the Book of Clearsight it she’d have tried to get the message back to Pyhrria.
Kinkajou didn't just give dark stalker amnesia she crushed his soul
You say Clearsight couldn’t have become evil, but I think different. Before she went to school, she obsessed over the future and spent most if not all of her time tracing out the thousands of timelines that could occur. If she had never had any outlets, and kept using all her time to continue tracing them out, she could have very well gone insane. I can just imagine a timeline where Clearsight is the big bad and Darkstalker and Fathom have to stop her if this happened.

I don't think she put it off. She just does what she can to make the problem surface as far into the future as she can.
Clearsight just makes me feel bad, I know that too much responsibility and thinking about minuscule details is very stressful.
On the other hand, in book 11; it does say "After the first 200 years the prophecies slowed down. An earthquake here. A Tsunami there. And eventually, her last prophecy was dated over 1,000 years ago." So, maybe she wasn't able to see that far? Or (The possibility that convinces me less) She simply gave up on keeping the responsibility of Darkstalker in favor of him being stopped in the future. (A little coldhearted for Clearsight in my opinion.)

DarkStalker could have been killed with poison earlier. He made his scales as hard a diamonds first, then made himself immortal just before he was put in the magic coma. If Clearsight could see the future so well, why couldn't she see that he was likely to become evil? Even when all the good futures started disappearing? Clearsight was ignorant of what DarkStalker was likely to become. She could have stopped him earlier but chose to not stop him before he got out of control. She _let_ him put spells on earrings he gifted her. She _let_ him do that. She should have been suspicious that when she wore the earrings her visions were like paradise. I mean like, if you were almost blind, then someone gave you new shoes or something and you saw better you'd be a little suspicious wouldn't you? Clearsight could see that DarkStalker was likely to do all the things he was going to yet kept thinking she could change him when it wasn't working. Why didn't she stop him earlier? She ignored that all the good futures disappeared. She ignored all the manipulation DarkStalker did to her.
She didn't ignore the manipulation being done to her, *because she was being manipulated.* She didn't let herself be suspicious about the earrings because Darkstalker guilt-tripped her into thinking that to do so would be unfair to him. This is basically their entire relationship, and she did love him, so of course she didn't want to kill him. She wanted to steer him down the right path, because she loved him, and he said he would be good. He was the one that didn't want to be better, it's not on Clearsight for thinking he could have changed, when at some point, she did see a world where he did.
Darkstalker's spell legitimately prevented her from ever seeing him as evil. He was abusive, this is victim blaming. You don't KNOW you're being manipulated by someone you love until it's too late, and it's unfair to put the responsibility on Clearsight for not recognizing she was being abused instead of putting the responsibility on Darkstalker to um... be a good boyfriend and not manipulate her in the first place.

i think kinkajou did it better, because now he doesnt know anythingabout clearsight or fathom or anyone who brings him pain adn he wont have the animus powers to corupt him, he gets to live as a child again and he wont hurt anyone else, however, what clearsight did was horrible, he went throught torture and im not suprised if he became a little more crazy while he was sitting there, alone in the dark.

clearsight was an interesting character, very generic, but interesting to read about. sadly she is a tragic hero, having this flaw consume here eventually

I’d say her solution cuz than we wouldn’t have had dark stalker and a lot of the fun stuff from book 6-10
I think kinkajous solution was better, no one really remembers being asleep then again I don’t think peacemaker remembers being dark stalker but he might.
I also wonder if dark stalker had dreams when he was asleep.
I think she did the right thing, but also kind of the wrong thing? Its confusing. She acted quickly to save her tribe, and isn’t that what heroes do? But then you point out that her act of enchanting Darkstalker to sleep was the same as putting off the problem. Certainly I prefer the idea to change him into Peacemaker. He’d start a new life, with no intentions to take over the world, and his mother could finally love him fully. Although, it seems sort of unfair for Moon, Qibli, Hope and Kinkajou to know Peacemaker’s past but Peacemaker himself doesn’t. Anyway, I really enjoyed this new perspective and I’m going to ponder and brood over it for days.

In actuality darkstalker is a true hero cos he knows that they were all trapped in a virtual reality simulation and the only way to wake up from it was to solve Schizophrenia and then recreate everyone who was "killed" in a true reality (cos nobody really dies in a virtual world)

Personally, I think that a spell that made Darkstalker become good again would have been better. Putting him to sleep didn't really deal with the problem for good
i feel like people need to also take into account that darkstalker was both a genocidal, indescructable animus and ab*sive to clearsight. y’all keep framing both methods as bad but there was nothing they could do.
as someone who has been ab/sed and made to feel like i’m an idiot numerous times by my ab/ser, the way you framed clearsight was manipulative and made her look like the villain in the situation… when we’re talking about a genecidal dragon in comparison to her. she did the only thing anyone could’ve done, and she didn’t ‘abandon’ him, she saved an entire tribe of dragons and her own tribe.
