**SPOILERS FOR DARKSTALKER LEGENDS** While my happy-ending side agrees completely, part of me likes how the relationship ended. Arctic is a very *very* real character. He's emotionally manipulative and abusive and Tui wrote him that way impeccably. Darkstalker getting his manipulative traits from Arctic was a power move and I haven't seen many other pieces of children's literature that capture dark topics as such that well, or let alone at all, like Legends Darkstalker and the Winglet did. Many children go through what Darkstalker went through, and Darkstalker is an amazing antagonist because of his backstory. I'm not saying that emotional manipulation/abuse makes what Darkstalker did okay at all (for those of you who read Darkstalker Legends you definitely know what Im talking about), but it definitely tied into it. Arctic and Foeslayer's relationship genuinely spoke to me because it made me hope that they would have a happy ending, that Arctic would overcome this behavior, and for the first time when reading a book, I felt bad for Foeslayer because of Arctic. And, on another hand, "he's not a bad guy"; He enchanted his own daughter to obey him and be perfect, when she had an emotional impediment he enchanted her to be "normal"? I don't disagree with you completely but it doesn't seem entirely fair to say that arctic isnt all that bad Im sorry for writing all this but Arctic and his family are characters that really speak to me, disagreements are fine
Arctic is in the moral grey area. He isn't fully evil even though he has done some questionable things, but he also isn't a hero. Foeslayer was tricked and Arctic wanted out of the ice kingdom. He just didn't realize that he would go from a bad place to a worse place. The other Nightwings pretty much hated him and the climate made him miserable. Same with the sleeping schedule. Nightwings up at night but the Icewings should be asleep during that time. There are many factors that led to the decisions made but what Darkstalker did... even if it is understandable does not mean he is just a misunderstood good guy. Drives me a bit crazy that people protect Darkstalker's choices. Anyway Arctic and Foeslayer definitely deserved better than what happened to them.

I think that it's a balanced level of horribleness between Arctic and Darkstalker, but I do know that Arctic influenced Darkstalker a little. Whether that be because Darkstalker imitated him or because Darkstalker hated him. It isn't fair for Darkstalker to say "hey lets kill the entire icewing kingdom for something they did twenty thousand years ago" or "lets kill my dad for being a butthole" nor was it fair for Arctic to hate his children. Also I completely agree that they, in reality, would have definitely had a better life if Arctic hadn't gone sour. But once again, the "twisted" side of my reading mind likes how their relationship turned out because of the way the books had been written before. But remember animus magic comes with a price, and when Arctic used his magic so much for foeslayer to protect her, he went slightly insane. I think Foeslayer played a huge role in the fall on their relationship, she continued to ignore that her husband is unhappy where he is and never took in consideration what he risked for her.
What could she have done? Her husband is the one with the power to make his mom nice, or end the war immediately. From her perspective, she was likely extremely frustrated that her partner could save both tribes with godlike magic but chose not to and simmer in his own bitterness and take it out on his family instead.
I half agree with you there, though it was Foeslayers fault, I think she did take consideration for what he did. In the Winglet she thought to herself on how she wanted him to be happy with her no matter where they were, and how she was so amazed and grateful for what he did for her. But, on the other talon, I agree with you for the first statement. I agree! I feel both of them are underrated or looked over as people look at Arctic the same way Darkstalker did. I feel like they were both pressured and never understood for everything the gave up to be with each other.

I can go two ways. On the one talon, arctic gave up his whole painted picture of a life for foeslayer and fell in love with her, showing that even though he grew bitter, he still had a small bit of glitter sticking on his soul for her. On the other talon, it wasn’t foeslayer’s fault for “using ” arctic, she genuinely loved him and just wanted what was best for him and herself, her mother was the one that decided to ruin their relationship. Even before foeslayer was killed over and over, the last thing she said to arctic was:”I never wanted your magic!” And she threw the earring. She loved him even though he turned into a pompous jerk. That’s what makes me think they both deserved a happier life.
Their relationship could have amounted to so much more. I agree that Darkstalker probably wouldn’t have ended up the way he did if he had had a better home life.
As a person who was a fan Arctic,I love hearing people talk about how he got the short end of the stick because of Darkstalker (an anti-hero) being the protagonist! Arctic was a shitty dad and he shouldn’t have been so terrible to his children, but how would you feel if your entire family and tribe hated you and the place you moved into also hated you? It would be very stressful and overwhelming and I’m surprised he wasn’t too terrible (also Icewings are supposed to be in cooler climates, but Arctic being away from the mountains and living down south probably made that even worse for him)

Everyone has their opinions :) I would write an essay for you if I could as to why he’s not evil, but ima just make two points: #1, you’re not evil unless you enjoy killing and Darkstalker didn’t just kill Arctic cause he liked it, he wanted to punish his father for being horrible to him and his sister all these years. #2, trying to wipe out a whole tribe is not evil either because he doesn’t enjoy wiping out tribes-if he did, he would wipe out every single tribe but he only tried to do it to the IceWings to punish them. Darkstalker is not a nice character at all, but he’s certainly not evil. Manipulating others for your own good is not evil either, but making others suffer because you just like doing it, is. I hope you see mah points!

Just because Darkstalker wasn't a sadist who killed just for the thrill of it ,like say Burn, doesn't absolve him from being guilty. Killing Arctic in such a brutal fashion was absolute overkill and why committing litteral genocide on the Icewings is wrong should be self-explanatory.
About being in the wrong climate and having Arctic's emotions flip to bitter, hateful, and short-fused, Glory also was like that before sun time. Later in the books, she's not as standoffish and is more calm/serene. Do you agree? :)
Both Arctic and Foeslayer got the short end of the stick… if they’d had a supportive group of friends, or supportive families, (better yet, BOTH) they could have been able to give their dragonets such a better life… honestly reading Darkstalker’s “Legends” book, I felt bad for the whole family at multiple points throughout the story… especially poor Whiteout who just wanted them to all stop fighting…
I think with Arctic at the very least we get to see a tried and true example of Animus magic completely corrupting you no matter what you do. They never mention him slinging out spells for himself but he still ended up turning into an awful person, probably due to the use of magic. Turns out the price to pay is heavy
Actually, the war of the SandWing succession might not have happened if Arctic and Foeslayer never got together. When Darkstalker went back to the Night Kingdom he noticed how much treasure was gone, and concluded that the SandWings must have stolen it, as they weren’t wealthy in his time, but then were. Without that treasure, scavengers wouldn’t have taken much interest in stealing it. This means Queen Oasis would’ve survived, and the War never would’ve happened. Plus, if the scavengers stole the treasure anyways, the SandWings would most likely not keep their treasure in the room they did, as they wouldn’t have needed those rooms since they didn’t have as much treasure as they did in the books. This means the scavengers would have had to have travelled to a different part of the castle, and this would’ve changed the storyline, and Queen Oasis would most likely have survived that way as well. (Also I get that everything I just said may be confusing, just reply if you have any questions.) EDIT: NOT CYPRUS HAVING A MELTDOWN AT 0:53 XDDDDD

Honestly this might be my favorite video yet i loved it and i loved them and i loved whiteout and i loved anything to do with them because they're perfect and they're perfect for each other i just love them so much
Before I read anything from the Winglet for Arctic and Foeslayer, (I've read all the books now, before this it was only the Winglet I was missing) I thought Arctic was pure bad, but I had no outer knowledge of this, and now as I've gotton and read the entire Winglet, I see the suffering Arctic endured, forced to marry a dragon like Snowflake, manipulated, found the love of his life, went halfway evil, then repeatingly got worse, was used for the daughters/sons, went to the worst place for a Icewing to be, got tourture by Queen Diamond for the entire time, had two (mostly) Nightwing dragonets, then got disimbowled by his own son who he deep down cared for. Poor Arctic.
It's interesting to look at their relationship. Arctic would become a bitter cold only held on by his love for Foeslayer and inevitably it would be her choice to have herself and Arctic go with her mother, along her eventual capture that would lead to Arctic's fall and Darkstalker killing him in turn. Foeslayer's choice to go with her mother instead of running away with Arctic reminds me of Winter's choice to fight with his Icewing family against Nightwings instead of staying with the Jade Winglet. Both would seek recognition from their family yet neither would get it and in turn would lose their close love.
I agree with you so much! it's sad how there never got to be truly happy together. Thank you so much for all your videos I love watching them and you inspired me to get into digital art, and your videos have given me so much inspiration for making art. I defenitly agree with you. Arctic was not a Bad dragon. Arctic was not abusive father. He never wanted to kill Darkstalker and he still loved Whiteout and Foeslayer dearly. Darkstalker wanted to kill him when he was a Baby and He wanted to see his father suffer. The part where Darkstalker give the Falcons to him was an act for suffering and a abusive way. Because it reminds him of his home that he miss but He didn't want to leave Foeslayer and didn't wanted to kill his children. Arctic is just very traumatized character and Foeslayer should have treated him better. In book 10 Foeslayer admits she should not throw her earring away and she didn't realize of much Arctic suffered. She truly loved him and they deserved a redemption arc.
I’ve never thought of Artic that way. I guess because part of the book was from Darkstalker’s view, we saw Artic as a villain because that’s what darkstaller thought he was.

i do agree Foeslayer should have cared more about what Arctic wanted instead of ignoring him and thinking about only what would have made her happy as i know she would have probably been more harsh had it been vice versa however i do appreciate the fact that she cared about her dragonets and she took care of them with love even if she had made some bad choices she still took care of her dragonets even if they did have to grow up in a difficult enviornment. But i do think their releshionship could have gone really well if they had just done some things differently and if they had thought about it a bit more. It does make me really sad as their happy future just vanished. I do partly blame Arctic too though because even if he was angry he shouldn't have treated Whiteout better than Darkstalker and he should have at least made an effort to try and make his dragonets feel loved especially when he knew what it felt like to be unloved. He also shouldn't have blamed Darkstalker for the fact that he was born more Nightwing as this wasn't even something that Darkstalker had any control over. Arctic also probably shouldn't have used his magic so much when he was escaping with Foeslayer and i do think that may be why he was angrier. While i don't think what Arctic did was right he still had had a difficult childhood and he wasn't able to be happy for most of his life while Foeslayer did live a better life. I also think Foeslayer should have at least try ti make an effort to try and help her husband because she did just let Arctic get rougher without even lifting a talon to help him and instead only thinking of her own happily ever after. However i don't completely blame them as they were both in very difficult situations. (By the way i have always wondered this question- what app do you use to make the paintings of the drawings?) Anyway that is my opinion on the subject and thanks fir taking the time to read it! XX

They really did seem happy at the beginning of their relationship. I feel so bad for them after everything just started falling apart. Maybe if Arctic wasn’t an aimus things would have been different. (We might not have gotten darkstalker tho)
I think that Arctic deserved better. And maybe part of the solution might of been just him, by having the short end of the stick, not loving his family as much as he probably should have

I’ve seen so many opinions about Arctic being a villain which I don’t think he is, all he wanted was to be with Foeslayer. Sure he was a bit of a jerk, but it’s kind of hard not to when he is surrounded by dragons that hate him. And the Arctic in Runaways was so much better. These two deserve so much better.
By the way i also have a suggestion for a video; What if Darkstalker wasn't born under any moons/one moon/two moons (basically any amount that isn't 3) Thanks for reading my comment!
Ok, I know this is quite an odd comment on a whatsisface, but, could you possibly to a What If for If Tsunami challenged Queen Coral in book 2? Or, would you possibly do one of if Peril didn't have firescales? Looking back on things, I feel like Darkstalker was just destined to become evil. His dad was a terrible parent, his dad’s mom was a terrible parent to his dad, his mom’s mom was terrible for both his mom & dad, the "enemy" queen was terrible for both his mom & dad, and the "ally" queen not only abused him for his animus magic, but tried assassinating him. What was Darkstalker supposed to do, when even his QUEEN was terrible?
They definitely deserved soooo much better. But I personally think both got short ends. Arctic definitely was justified in some ways (in being bitter mostly) though definitely not in other ways (treatment of his wife, kids, etc). Foeslayer deserved better too. She shouldn’t of let her mom control her life but it is understandable why she did. Any person victim of extreme abuse, well, it takes them many times before they finally stop going to the abuser. So it’s understandable why she followed her mom, and she deserved better in how Arctic treated her and her kids.
Day 4 of suggesting this idea for a what-if video: What if Starflight and/or Sunny hatched under the moons? (Since the moons give nightwings their powers and Sunny is part nightwing so maybe if would affect her as well)

I can go two ways. On the one talon, arctic gave up his whole painted picture of a life for foeslayer and fell in love with her, showing that even though he grew bitter, he still had a small bit of glitter sticking on his soul for her. On the other talon, it wasn’t foeslayer’s fault for “using ” arctic, she genuinely loved him and just wanted what was best for him and herself, her mother was the one that decided to ruin their relationship. Even before foeslayer was killed over and over, the last thing she said to arctic was:”I never wanted your magic!” And she threw the earring. She loved him even though he turned into a pompous jerk. That’s what makes me think they both deserved a happier life.
Their relationship could have amounted to so much more. I agree that Darkstalker probably wouldn’t have ended up the way he did if he had had a better home life.
As a person who was a fan Arctic,I love hearing people talk about how he got the short end of the stick because of Darkstalker (an anti-hero) being the protagonist! Arctic was a shitty dad and he shouldn’t have been so terrible to his children, but how would you feel if your entire family and tribe hated you and the place you moved into also hated you? It would be very stressful and overwhelming and I’m surprised he wasn’t too terrible (also Icewings are supposed to be in cooler climates, but Arctic being away from the mountains and living down south probably made that even worse for him)

I would write an essay for you if I could as to why he’s not evil, but ima just make two points: #1, you’re not evil unless you enjoy killing and Darkstalker didn’t just kill Arctic cause he liked it, he wanted to punish his father for being horrible to him and his sister all these years. #2, trying to wipe out a whole tribe is not evil either because he doesn’t enjoy wiping out tribes-if he did, he would wipe out every single tribe but he only tried to do it to the IceWings to punish them. Darkstalker is not a nice character at all, but he’s certainly not evil. Manipulating others for your own good is not evil either, but making others suffer because you just like doing it, is. I hope you see mah points!
@@Alquevia I'm afraid your definition of what makes an act evil is more than a little screwed. Just because Darkstalker wasn't a sadist who killed just for the thrill of it ,like say Burn, doesn't absolve him from being guilty. Killing Arctic in such a brutal fashion was absolute overkill and why committing litteral genocide on the Icewings is wrong should be self-explanatory.
About being in the wrong climate and having Arctic's emotions flip to bitter, hateful, and short-fused, Glory also was like that before sun time. Later in the books, she's not as standoffish and is more calm/serene. Do you agree? :)

Both Arctic and Foeslayer got the short end of the stick… if they’d had a supportive group of friends, or supportive families, (better yet, BOTH) they could have been able to give their dragonets such a better life… honestly reading Darkstalker’s “Legends” book, I felt bad for the whole family at multiple points throughout the story… especially poor Whiteout who just wanted them to all stop fighting…
I think with Arctic at the very least we get to see a tried and true example of Animus magic completely corrupting you no matter what you do. They never mention him slinging out spells for himself but he still ended up turning into an awful person, probably due to the use of magic. Turns out the price to pay is heavy

I love the moment of boredom where they just decided to scribble on Foeslayers face. I’m all alone in my house and literally laughed out loud. XD
Actually, the war of the SandWing succession might not have happened if Arctic and Foeslayer never got together. When Darkstalker went back to the Night Kingdom he noticed how much treasure was gone, and concluded that the SandWings must have stolen it, as they weren’t wealthy in his time, but then were. Without that treasure, scavengers wouldn’t have taken much interest in stealing it. This means Queen Oasis would’ve survived, and the War never would’ve happened. Plus, if the scavengers stole the treasure anyways, the SandWings would most likely not keep their treasure in the room they did, as they wouldn’t have needed those rooms since they didn’t have as much treasure as they did in the books. This means the scavengers would have had to have travelled to a different part of the castle, and this would’ve changed the storyline, and Queen Oasis would most likely have survived that way as well.
(Also I get that everything I just said may be confusing, just reply if you have any questions.)

Honestly this might be my favorite video yet i loved it and i loved them and i loved whiteout and i loved anything to do with them because they're perfect and they're perfect for each other i just love them so much
Before I read anything from the Winglet for Arctic and Foeslayer, (I've read all the books now, before this it was only the Winglet I was missing) I thought Arctic was pure bad, but I had no outer knowledge of this, and now as I've gotton and read the entire Winglet, I see the suffering Arctic endured, forced to marry a dragon like Snowflake, manipulated, found the love of his life, went halfway evil, then repeatingly got worse, was used for the daughters/sons, went to the worst place for a Icewing to be, got tourture by Queen Diamond for the entire time, had two (mostly) Nightwing dragonets, then got disimbowled by his own son who he deep down cared for.
Poor Arctic.
It's interesting to look at their relationship. Arctic would become a bitter cold only held on by his love for Foeslayer and inevitably it would be her choice to have herself and Arctic go with her mother, along her eventual capture that would lead to Arctic's fall and Darkstalker killing him in turn. Foeslayer's choice to go with her mother instead of running away with Arctic reminds me of Winter's choice to fight with his Icewing family against Nightwings instead of staying with the Jade Winglet. Both would seek recognition from their family yet neither would get it and in turn would lose their close love.
I agree with you so much! it's sad how there never got to be truly happy together. Thank you so much for all your videos I love watching them and you inspired me to get into digital art, and your videos have given me so much inspiration for making art. One of my favorite things to do is make art while I have your videos playing in the background. I can't wait for your next upload!

I defenitly agree with you. Arctic was not a Bad dragon. Arctic was not abusive father. He never wanted to kill Darkstalker and he still loved Whiteout and Foeslayer dearly. Darkstalker wanted to kill him when he was a Baby and He wanted to see his father suffer. The part where Darkstalker give the Falcons to him was an act for suffering and a abusive way. Because it reminds him of his home that he miss but He didn't want to leave Foeslayer and didn't wanted to kill his children.
Arctic is just very traumatized character and Foeslayer should have treated him better.
In book 10 Foeslayer admits she should not throw her earring away and she didn't realize of much Arctic suffered.
She truly loved him and they deserved a redemption arc.

i do agree Foeslayer should have cared more about what Arctic wanted instead of ignoring him and thinking about only what would have made her happy as i know she would have probably been more harsh had it been vice versa however i do appreciate the fact that she cared about her dragonets and she took care of them with love even if she had made some bad choices she still took care of her dragonets even if they did have to grow up in a difficult enviornment. But i do think their releshionship could have gone really well if they had just done some things differently and if they had thought about it a bit more. It does make me really sad as their happy future just vanished. I do partly blame Arctic too though because even if he was angry he shouldn't have treated Whiteout better than Darkstalker and he should have at least made an effort to try and make his dragonets feel loved especially when he knew what it felt like to be unloved. He also shouldn't have blamed Darkstalker for the fact that he was born more Nightwing as this wasn't even something that Darkstalker had any control over.
Arctic also probably shouldn't have used his magic so much when he was escaping with Foeslayer and i do think that may be why he was angrier. While i don't think what Arctic did was right he still had had a difficult childhood and he wasn't able to be happy for most of his life while Foeslayer did live a better life. I also think Foeslayer should have at least try ti make an effort to try and help her husband because she did just let Arctic get rougher without even lifting a talon to help him and instead only thinking of her own happily ever after. However i don't completely blame them as they were both in very difficult situations. (By the way i have always wondered this question- what app do you use to make the paintings of the drawings?) Anyway that is my opinion on the subject and thanks fir taking the time to read it! XX

They really did seem happy at the beginning of their relationship. I feel so bad for them after everything just started falling apart. Maybe if Arctic wasn’t an aimus things would have been different. (We might not have gotten darkstalker tho)

I’ve seen so many opinions about Arctic being a villain which I don’t think he is, all he wanted was to be with Foeslayer. Sure he was a bit of a jerk, but it’s kind of hard not to when he is surrounded by dragons that hate him. And the Arctic in Runaways was so much better. These two deserve so much better.

Looking back on things, I feel like Darkstalker was just destined to become evil.
His dad was a terrible parent, his dad’s mom was a terrible parent to his dad, his mom’s mom was terrible for both his mom & dad, the "enemy" queen was terrible for both his mom & dad, and the "ally" queen not only abused him for his animus magic, but tried assassinating him.
What was Darkstalker supposed to do, when even his QUEEN was terrible?

AAHHH THE LAST PIC-
They definitely deserved soooo much better. But I personally think both got short ends. Arctic definitely was justified in some ways (in being bitter mostly) though definitely not in other ways (treatment of his wife, kids, etc). Foeslayer deserved better too. She shouldn’t of let her mom control her life but it is understandable why she did. Any person victim of extreme abuse, well, it takes them many times before they finally stop going to the abuser. So it’s understandable why she followed her mom, and she deserved better in how Arctic treated her and her kids.
Day 4 of suggesting this idea for a what-if video: What if Starflight and/or Sunny hatched under the moons? (Since the moons give nightwings their powers and Sunny is part nightwing so maybe if would affect her as well)
Fathom and Dusky’s father are the only good dads in the series that I can think of.

idk I think Artic is just grumpy by nature, like Winter was grumpy to so maybe it just has to do with how Arctic's parents treated him, along with how everyone treated him.
