I love him, I couldn't watch an F1 event without his commentary, particularly because of his technical insights, but in the last few years, he's just been saying the same technical insights over and over and over again. Like that line about "10,000 combined horsepower at the race start", or when it's raining, that the drivers other senses (other than eyesight) get amplified, that they listen to the car in front to know when to brake, etc..I can almost predict what he's going to say. I still prefer his commentary to most others, but I think I'm starting to like Jolyan Palmer's commentary more, he's out-Brundling Martin Brundle now.
I've been watching F1 for over 40 years now and Martin Bundle is the only commentator other than Murray Walker that I really care/d to listen to, Ted Kravitz brings both love of the sport and commentary a bit like Murray Walker did but not as visceral, though Murray had a V8, V10, V12 soundtrack to back him up. R.I.P Murray, he'd have turned 100 a few months back.
Love it when Simon mentions pushrods / pullrods as if they're technical enough to understand the impact 😅🤣 Don't think it'll affect a driver's decision to move teams or not
I guess he needs someone to help him choose his outfit. You would wear this to cleanup your garage or something like that and afterwards throw it in the bin.
Sprint shootout should become a sort of competitive practice session where the teams at the end who are at the top make up the grid make up the spirit grid with the last 3o mins of that practice are when the teams at whatever point they want can do their competitive lap
If they learnt anything from last year, hopefully after the sprint race, I guess at the beginning of main qualifying, as per usual.. But I'd love to see it opened up again like the old days, where you could change it up to the start of the race.. Why not? 🤔
From another source - it seems the change in sprint arrangement to allow changes prior to main race - so, fingers-crossed, it's not a repeat on Sunday to that of Saturday's spring.
Used to enjoy listening to Martin Brundle giving feedback on the side of the track...his comments are so spot on. No idea who the guy 2nd from left is, but he seems to have something against Charles - the jealousy is so obvious. Beat it. He's quick, and you can't take it.
the problem about the competitive argument regarding Andretti, is that Hass and Williams aren't competitive so how come they are being allowed to stay! It doesn't make sense to me how they can say a prospective team isn't competitive but just on paper!
Martin and bernie are the ony real reporter's with knowledge and insight, the rest are just mouthpieces with no real knowledge and just trying to start more bs rumors . How lazenby keeps his job is a wonder of the modern world, 2nd rate actor, 3rd rate reporter.
I don't think the sprint race has added anything to F1. All it has done is given the already strong teams more opportunities to amass points and further pull themselves away from the less well performing teams. I think the sprint race should only involve the drivers who are placed from 11th to 20th in the Championship standings. This would allow them to potentially gain some much needed points that they probably wouldn't get in the race proper.
Martin Brundle is such a goat announcer, @skysportsF1 & the @F1media need to put him as head announcer! Along side Ted Crofty! I can’t stand Joylar talking! 😩
Many of the modern F1 analysts are great. But NONE of them hold a candle to James Hunt. He always said it as it was. Martin picked up with Murray after James departed but he could never replace James. Murray Walker and James Hunt will always be the greatest English speaking F1 commentary duo in history. And by quite some way too. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Sir Lewis is probably already deep into learning the language and highly looking forward to next year’s embedding - who wouldn’t? What an exciting new year for him, the tifosi and the Cavallino!
Indeed, during his F1 career he has some good luck within switching the teams. He never had a slow car. But before his dominance at Merc, his track record wasn't exactly bright: choked in 2007, barely beat Massa in 2008, choked in 2010, beaten by Button in 2011. Now he was matched by Rosberg in 2013. Lost from Rosberg 2016 and beaten by Russel in 2022. He was good in 2012, had a good rookie year, and that's it. He actually never dominated a teammate (like Max does) apart from Kovalainen. Button and Rosberg all were close to him, and Bottas was close to him until he got relegated to number 1.
Friday-Practice 1 Friday-Practice 2 Saturday- Qualifing Saturday-Sprint Race (Reverse Qualifying Grid) Sunday-Race(Normal Qualifying Grid) Please make this the Format for sprint weekends
I don't think (unlike Sky L.H Fans club) SIR L. Hamilton is owed ANYTHING by M.B, they have mostly given him a great car & engine...… on the other hand I DO think Sly Sorts owe 90% of their status to Mr Brundle
Hamilton has never built a team. Mercedes were set up by Brawn and Schumacher. Given the language and unique environment at Ferrari there is a good chance he will be a fish out of water. Management trying to indoctrinate the staff to bend its ways to a short term driver could/will foment resentment. As Martin said Lewis will need to embed himself there, not the other way around. That is not his makeup.
@@ericrossonilet me guess you started watching F1 in 2021. If you look back at history it was Schumacher that helped Brawn turn that team into the team Mercedes became. Hamilton benefitted a lot from the groundwork Schumacher and Ross Brawn did to create a winning team.

Energise Merc? 😂😂 haven’t seen Toto this deflated since 2021. He knew he f’d up not giving SLH a longer contract. Part of the reason why was that SLH would be in his 40’s so to now offer Alonso a seat at Merc is laughable. And, sloppy Sky Sports again spouting that SLH left his contract prematurely and misleading the viewers. After long, drawn-out negotiations, SLH was offered a one year contract with an option of another year. He decided not to take up that option. Really not hard to understand.
Charles ain't worried about Lewis! It will be the last two years of his F1 career, charles is the future for Ferrari. I was at Monza 2019 and Charles manged to keep Lewis behind for the entire race, and 4 years on, Charles got F1 and Ferrari figured out !
Charles has already been the face of Ferrari for years. He won't be the future of the team for _that_ much longer. Unless they start winning championships, which of course is unlikely because... Ferrari
Smart teams will use the sprint as a kind of FP2 for race simulations, collect data, then maybe retire from them to preserve the engine and other mechanical pieces to then have the right qualy and sunday race setup. I know I would.
Mercedes guaranteed Lewis would go to Ferrari when it offered a 1+1. It said to Lewis, "We're waiting for you to leave and want to keep our options open." A driver of that calibre knows they offer any team a lot of value, and the team with the deepest reserves of cash said "We want you." Toto did this to himself, basically.
Congratulations to Sky Sports F1 Podcast for recapping all off-season drama, before starting the first race in order to take them into consideration!!!
I'm curious to see how he'll be received in Italy. I live in Italy and Charles is extremely popular among young and old fans. Lewis on the other hand is not popular at all so it'll be interesting to see what happens.
They should go for Antonelli, if not put Ocon in the Merc seat for a year - he's still got ties to Mercedes. 23:54 - they should never have put restrictions in parc ferme post 2002.
Cadillac and Andretti won't be competitive? Ridiculous. This provincial attitude is just a negotiating tactic. When andretti comes back they're coming back hard and they're going to make this happen. Count on it! LeMans, WEC, IMSA, Indy Car (GM).
I can’t see how everyone would say that and ready is not going to be competitive when they win, and so many other racing series. I really think Liberty Media is making a huge mistake by not allowing them on the grid.
Yes Mercedes does owe him a lot, but he also owes them. It isnt this one way streak Lazenby pretends it to be. If he wants to leave than there isnt much that they owe him, and we have seen so many times in other sports, ab "keyplayer" announcing a move this early could easly effect the season negatively. If he shows the team that he is giving his a;; than they will respond in kind, team/group dynamics are pretty much universal.
The comment about Lewis Hamilton being credited with giving Merc 8x world championships does make me wonder why Lewis suddenly stopped doing that in 2022? Shouldn't it be Merc being credited with giving LH the car to win 6 WDC? The 2022 and 2023 seasons are good examples to show that without a good car, LH can't win, not even a single race. For this reason Merc team has got every right to feel betrayed by Lewis for dumping them the moment the team struggles. I think 2024 is going to be one really awkward season for LH and Merc and in a situation like this, better to see what the team does instead of listening to what they say or claim. The best parting gift for LH is to have Merc beating Ferrari in 2024 even if they cant win the championship
I couldn't care who Lewis drives for, at the end of the day, I do think he can drag the farrari team forwards as for maclaren I think they are the real deal to take on redbull
I think the sprint race idea is dumb. Trying to cram too much into one weekend. Practice on Friday, Quali on Saturday. Race on Sunday. That's how it's always been and it should stay that way.
martin is right, audi purchased sauber and andretti choosed the hardest path to join f1. gene haas don't give a care of its f1's team. i'm surprise no investissor sent him a proposal.
What does he owe them... He's given them all their wdc in the modern period. He has transformed their brand.. Marketing, social media.. Social causes etc etc...
Gratitude for the cars they built for him. Rosberg gave them a WDC as well and without Lewis he would have given them also a few more than that. Of course Lewis drove brilliantly. And of course he was good for marketing. But at least it's 50:50. To say Mercedes owes Lewis is a typical statement by british media. @@jastallion45
1: turning down Andretti 🙄🙄🙄 2: Martin's comment about drivers claiming they don't care about the sprint races 😂 until they get passed ... Hell for leather!! 🎉 Yeah! And it needs to be mandatory if your on the grid to either speak to him or be polite on the grid walk. It's BS to cold shoulder Martin or be rude.
They told us to appreciate last season more even if Redbull won all but 1 race. Now they’re telling us Hamilton to Ferrari is the best news for the sport after a boring season. Which is it?
Seems like they were saying it seemed boring that there were no driver changes, and most of the key drivers seemed to be staying where they are long term.
I've always said that Lewis would end his career at ferrari so i wasn't surprised by the move and I think Ferrari have or are getting rid of the wrong driver Sainz is a better driver than Leclerc and would have out scored him last year if it wasn't for that drain cover + Sainz would have out pointed Verstappen when they were team mates at torro rosso it was only reliability problems which let him down and caused max to score more points. Sainz is massively underrated if you ask me, I put him up there with Norris
Why would you not wait until all the cars were revealed to do this recording? It would've been so much more interesting/juicy to talk about if they'd seen the redbull..
The new format for the sprint is more chronological but the pleasure before with a exciting event every day of the weekend, something to get excited about or talked about, is gone which to me is a downside, surprisingly to me noone talks about. I'm a purist and reversed grid was a no go to me until a friend came up with: qualifying and race as ever for the purists. No qualifying for the sprint but reversed grid for the sprint based on championship standings. For sure radical, but would save a meaningless sprint qualifying, keep a straight forward qualifying and race for the purists and would for sure make for exciting sprint race. Possibly something to talk about.
Andretti is a world famous racing name. General Motors (Cadillac) is a giant, world famous company. The F1 constructors have such "legendary" names as Stake, Visa something or other and Haas. Did those teams ever have one of their drivers win a World Championship? Mario Andretti won the Championship for Lotus. Michael Andretti's teams have entered and won in all sorts of racing, including winning the Indy 500. Quibble about what year Andretti should start in F1, OK. But, FOM/FOCA/FOwhatever should not belittle the Andrettis, General Motors or the value of an actual American team in Formula One. Haas is a Ferrari Junior team with non-American drivers whose cars were at one point painted as a Russian flag. What value do they bring? From this side of the pond, it looks like the size of the bribe Andretti was required to pay just wasn't enough for the existing teams. And, it seems to us "colonists" that Americans are just not welcome.
I’m not sure Merc will go for Alonso. Lewis left because Merc only wanted to give him a one year contract. They only gave him a 1+1 as a compromise to keep him for ‘24. Kimi seems to be who they want long term and are afraid to lose him. Alonso doesn’t just want a one year contract. He’ll want the option to stay for as long as he is still performing at the top level he is now. If they didn’t want Lewis for a few more years, regardless of current performance and stature in the sport, I’m not sure they’ll want Fernando. That is unless they’ve learned their lesson.
Mercedes are spoilt for choice. Toto Wolff will go for whomsover is cost effective. That means it'll cost too much to buy out Alonso. The 'German option' with Vettel, Schumacher, Hulkenberg, (even Rosberg) would please Daimler Benz main board of directors best of all.
Sprint races are a very expensive, boring addition to the F1 calendar that compromises race day setup & detracts from the essence of why F1 is the pinnacle of motor sport.
Mercedes should go with George and Mick for the season 2025...honest. Because George is not a rookie anymore it's his 3d season. More than 5 seasons in f1. It's time to be nummer one. Mick Schumacher can be a number 2 at a top team 🙂 Lewis Hamilton need to adjust fast at Ferrari. Brundle is on point. Learn the language fast and go all in. And try to bring some own people. 👍
“Lewis is a winning machine” In that case I think it needs some maintenance. He lost to Rosberg, beat Bottas with a clean sheet and then lost to Russell, only to finally beat a non-Bottas teammate last season. Bottas was specifically signed to prevent another Rosberg-Lewis episode. He wasn’t allowed to challenge Lewis, wasn’t suppose to race him. So fundamentally Lewis lost two of his last three seasons against competitive teammates. If that’s a winning machine I would have it serviced thoroughly, some main parts are probably malfunctioning. “A Bottas-crushing machine” is more accurate I think. That works when you look at the facts.

Andretti was dissed very simple and also American fans plus gm very importantantly the fia
Signing pre season isn't that unusual. Daniel did it with his McLaren move.
Lewis owes Mercades everything! as f1 proves again and again the best car wins irrespective of the driver
Spot on.
Mick Schumacher
@@sam.victor470 nothing to buy Alonso out of. His contract with AM ends this year. It was only 2 years.
One of our biggest concerns this upcoming 2024 Season is the FIA. I wish they would relax their grip during the year. Even just a little! 🏁
And we should still believe that Lewis and his camp didn't reach out to Red Bull.......
Any one that found the sprint weekend format confusing needs to go back and redo primary school
max max max super max 4th title incoming, alonso first win, george gets dropped
Maybe fix your Anti-George bias.
George being dropped is a possibility. He needs to bring his A-game
@@llena9778 He’s not getting dropped. That’d be ridiculous.
@@llena9778he does bring it… thats the problem.
what makes me bias?@@gameofender4463
Where bloody hell are they? Looks very professional!..😂
Lazenby looks high as a kite
“Lewis is a winning machine”
In that case I think it needs some maintenance.
If the teams could recruit as effectively as Sky F1 do, “happy days “ . No more “spiteful back ends” 😉
GP qualifying after the sprint race? That seems awkward. I liked the 2023 format. Sprint Saturday was awesome.
Business or not, fans are upset, (Well, I am) with F1 's refusal of Andretti.
Why is this lady trying to talk over MB? The only person we want to hear from..
The Andretti decision has done more damage to the business of F1 than any other, a foolish act of self-harm.
So damaging that everyone forgot about it literally 24 hours later
