I dont actually agree, the reason we have that focus is beacuse they are usually the most successful and thats generally what the public wants. she hasnt had much success really, some, but not enough to grab attention of the public, only the more heeky amongst us would know who she is
Bernie and James Vowels both have that same ability to explain really complex engineering concepts in a very understandable way without making the audience feel like it’s being dumbed down. One of the best additions to the broadcast team in recent years.
I'm glad engineers are getting more representation on main stream F1 coverage. They make up such a vital aspect of the sport and can provide tremendous insight. Bernie does a fantastic job communicating her knowledge and it's fantastic to hear. Very happy she's back this year.

AHHH BERNIE IS THE BEST! Love hearing about some of the low tech that goes into F1. The paint pen idea is genius! Trackside engineering is so underrated these days. I loved seeing Alpha Tauri tape Yukis car up in Baku and was honestly shocked to see fans have a negative reaction to it. American motorsport things I guess...

I have just got to agree with all of the comments really. I am not sure who at Sky came up with the idea but to add Bernie Collins to the presenting team was an absolute masterstroke. Bernie has immense knowledge across multiple roles within different teams and she manages to explain things in a language that is easy to understand.
for anyone wanting to try a basic DIY flow viz at home try with titanium dioxide, kerosene & oleic acid in proportion of 50g,20-25ml,1/2drops (dont remember exactly) it looks like milk, the final product, you can then add a colour pigment. Also worth noting that the composition varies based on outside atmospheric conditions. apply on you car bumper or on the area after the wheel arch and see how it goes. You cannot get it right the first time but eventually you will get there. TiO2 is safe, you can use low viscosity oil to subsitute for kerosene for safety, but shake the mixture well to break the Titanium di-oxide -\also the quantity mentioned above is very small for you to try it out to get the right consistency and proportion, u need to scale it up to have a proper batch for good coverage
I think Adrian Newey seen Mercedes pod design last year and has looked at it as a sort of challenge to get the design to work on the red bull as just improving the car from last year's design would just be to easy for him.
Bernie's insights as a former head of strategies is excellent, and I thoroughly enjoy listening to an expert, rather than assumptions and guess work from the TV presenters. Bernie and Karun Chandock are just a huge bag of brilliant information, but I do wonder why Bernie's not been offered or taken another job at one of the teams. She worked her way upto head strategist through multiple teams, and I'm just surprised she still on Sky Sports F1.
She actually addressed this on a previous podcast. It was her choice to leave because it didn’t fit with the lifestyle she wanted. These long race calendars that involve so much travel can be pretty wearying & hard for family and relationships. Who knows, maybe she’ll end up missing it & go back, but for now I’m so glad that we get to take advantage of her knowledge & insights on Sky!
I love testing coverage. I know the presenters hate it filling time. But it's very much like test match cricket. Where it's all so slow paced and you read the paper and have a pint whilst having inane conversations. And watch a few cars go around.
The team Bernie is talking about at 21:50 is McLaren in 2013 pre season testing. They put the suspension on the wrong way and were rapid. They werent surprised initially and didnt spot it til later in the day cos the 2012 car was rapid but unreliable.
