A lot may depend on the language situation. Ferrari work internally entirely in Italian. Lewis may need a fluent Italian speaker as his race engineer. Not sure if Bono will fit the bill - we wait and see I guess.
@@thlee3not a lot, but it does happen. Andrea Stella moved to McLaren from Ferrari with Alonso. Rob Smedley moved with Massa from Ferrari to Williams. Bono would be uprooting his family and moving to Italy. It’d be a big move and risk for only a few years. He’d also be giving up seniority at Merc and jumping into the political firestorm of Ferrari.
This move was always going to happen. It had to happen. Every driver's dream is to one day drive that Ferrari and with Lewis being the best driver ever (according to the record books) it just makes sense, good luck to both and it'll be interesting to see how he does against another great driver in leclerc.
This is so interesting when you actually deep it, like what do Ferrari offer that Mercedes don't. Maybe it's a new challenge who knows, i doubt they fell out. Biggest move in F1 since schumacer came back
Multiple things: - being 7 (8) times world champion, he was still not the highest paid driver on the grid. Ferrari will correct that - Toto’s new renewed contract does not have performance clause - so he will be with merc even if he is not able to provide championship winning car to drivers - Mercedes was not helping lewis with his other projects, Ferrari has opened its arms to support all of them helping make lewis 400M+ empire. - Team stopped acting on lewis’s suggestions last year on what to improve which became quite frustrating for him
I think this was exactly what Ferrari needed. Normally no driver is than Ferrari but Hamilton is probably the biggest F1 driver in the world. Him going there adding his experience and calmness beside Charles. Ferrari will need to win now
That would be an impressive stat but also unlikely. Leclerc is a tougher teammate than Russell and Leclerc also has the advantage of being Ferrari's boy with the team around him. I honestly think the younger Leclerc will smoke him
Different time can't compare, Seb got beaten by Charles during the worst Ferrari ever in 2020 just that Ferrari focused on one driver in car development & also Charles extracted the SF1000 mainly in qualifying With Lewis i think he'll be more closer to Charles since Ferrari are in the best place in term of car performance than 2020. Lewis are in better place to try beat Charles than Seb in 2020 too
@zariqeezham9210 It was closer because it was Charles' first season but generally he was slower. In 2020 he was completely destroyed by him. It wasn't even close. Same happened in 2014. I like Seb, but he is overrated.

Feel quite sad for Toto and Mercedes. :( Been hoping for a Mercedes/Hamilton comeback since that dark day in Abu Dhabi, very sad that its "probebly" not gonna happen. One of the things that made me like Lewis was he's partnership with Toto, the feeling of loyalty, trust and the spirit of their winning mentality.
it does look very unlikely that Mercedes could contest the championship for some time. But then on the other hand, 20 years ago Lewis did say he wanted to race for Ferrari if he could.
Many tried to win extra title with Ferrari lately 😂 Kimi made it because of: "leave him alone, he's know what he's doing" 😅 But I think Lewis have the best chances because of his undeniable exceptional talent. Wish him the best ❤
Fair play to Lewis he did it the right way face to face can you imagine if this was a football player would totally hide behind their agent. Mercedes shouldn’t be bitter though they offered a short term deal which is the risk they chose to take. Mercedes should be excited of a new challenge too but it is emotional after 12 years.
They have the greatest run of success in F1 history, what an achievement. It all comes to an end at some point and Lewis leaving next season maybe alters his departure into retirement by a couple of years. Everyone gets replaced and a new era begins. I glad to hear they sat together and talked it through, that would have been hard, for they share the closest bond of any driver/principal on the grid by a country mile. Toto is gutted but reflective. It's been phenomenal boys.
So Toto was in Oxfordshire when the meeting with Lewis happened but when it was time to notify the broader team in Brackley he had to dial-in rather than be in person? The two cities are only 20-25 miles apart.

Lewis always signed 2 year contracts, I think the team just started to take him for granted, weird stuff started to happen to his car at the end of the last season. Hope Ferrari banked their profits yesterday though, 5 bils!
@@karl8805 Actually when it comes to share prices you can bank profits, and re-enter. Anyone with any shares, and inside information and timing of the release should have made a lot of money. Better than betting in the bookies.
The media have been painting a picture as if Hamilton held all the cards. 'Headlines all declaring he is leaving to win', 'He has lost faith in Mercedes'. Toto wolf said they could not give him more than 2 years and We must remember the contract negotiations last season were protracted. Something tells me Lewis wanted a longer. For the first time Lewis was was not setting the terms and in particular the length of the contract he wanted. Lewis' contract at Ferrari takes him beyond what the Mercedes contract took him to.
If I remember correctly, the deal for Lewis moving from McLaren to Merc went down the same way. Merc benefited from that, so it seems vaguely fair that it worked this way too now.
Merc didnt benefit. Had lewis not fone rosberg would be a 7 or 8x champ.. Lewis just drove a car that nico amd schuey devloped and got ready. As soon as ham needs to develop cars he runs away and quits
Not a surprise because Merc was already showing their cards in terms of how they would manage the future. Just the fact that the team wasn't joining Lewis when he got podiums should tell you all you need to know.
Leclerc is a step up from Russell and he's Ferrari's boy. I'm sure we'll see some good scraps at Ferrari but I'm pretty confident in the assumption that Leclerc will beat him and that an 8th title with them is not going to happen. Several people from Mercedes are joining Ferrari with Lewis in 2025. Lewis will have his own hand picked team around himself, a long contract and be paid more money - perfect move.
This is the best story and has a good story for 2024 as fans watch the Mercedes-AMG and Lewis relationship during this season. I like the decision as now I can really go for Lewis. I hope Lewis smashes the field in 2025.
Mercedes wanted the shorter contract with Lewis. They wanted to keep there options open and Lewis did too by sounds of it. Looks like toto is kicking himself
Finally 2 of my favourites colliding!! Btw, its not about the money. Ferrari definitely is coming with better car! And Lewis wants to kck Maxs butt! Mercedes couldnt give it. Ferrari might. Lets goo!!!!!
At least mercedes will realise we were lewis fans and not mercedes fans, lets go lewis to the dream team ferrari. I am pumped, in conor mcgregors voice as ferrari, "without us this hole f1 goes down"
The 2024 silly seasn is going to be one for the ages. What a shake up we're in for. Where will carlos go. Who do Merc replace lewis with. I think i read 13 contracts are up. Will checo leave or be replaced. Where does Daniel end up. Where will Alonso end up. The 2024 season is already epic and we haven't even had a car reveal yet let alone a race. Just a big Red lewis bombshell.
Hmm, Alonso was playing table tennis with George Russel on a plane where they were going for an outting. Alonso to Mercedes in 2025? The timing is impeccable. Both Russel and Alonso tweeted it. The plot thickens! :D
Alright I will admit it - as a Merc and Hamilton fan it’s confusing right now. Good thing is I’ve always liked Sainz and Lando, so in the past I’ve been happy to support Ferrari and McLaren because of them. I imagine I’ll end up following Ham and supporting Ferrari. Should be a fun change.
It's time to move on. It was a great run at Mercedes and he'll always be the face of this team just like Jordan was with the Chicago Bulls. I'm sure driving for Ferrari was always on his career bucket list so congrats to him.
This is only my opinion. I think Lewis has probably always had his heart on Ferrari. They are a Iconic brand, and being a fan of Michael Schumacher. Who wouldn't want to drive for them. Mercedes is struggling, and Ferrari is on the cusp of figuring it out. Not sure he is going to drive far into his 40's. This is his best chance to go out on top, and do it in a Ferrari. It would be a fantastic dream if it works out.
You know what's so strange about this announcement? Is commentators have been talking about this move for years. Yet everyone is so shocked.@@jordanbyford2693
Toto you lie bro😂 In 2022, Mercedes might not have cared if Lewis left, as it looked like George was faster, but in 2023, Lewis showed his class and put question marks about Russell’s ultimate pace into Mercedes’ minds.
So ultimately it came down to money and the need to feel wanted. Think Mercedes played this badly last August at the contract negotiations. With regards to money does Toto really need save money? Is hair dye really that expensive?
100%, Mercedes allowed this to blow up in their face. They just became a nobody in one year because they're greedy and won't listen to their drivers. If I was George I'd be worried, but he has nowhere to go.

A lot may depend on the language situation. Ferrari work internally entirely in Italian. Lewis may need a fluent Italian speaker as his race engineer. Not sure if Bono will fit the bill - we wait and see I guess.
@@Daz5Daz Bono has a year to learn, I have faith! lol
Alonso is the perfect fit short term to help develop the car
And he gets on with George Russell.
Can you let an interview run consecutively next time. This was painful
Biggest move in F1 since schumacer came back
And Mercedes not willing to offer more than 2yrs maybe.
pace.
Seb to Ferrari one year after the start of the turbo-hybrid era?
The appeal of Ferrari itself is a big enough factor for a lot of people, he can now say when he's retired he drove for them
Multiple things:
- being 7 (8) times world champion, he was still not the highest paid driver on the grid. Ferrari will correct that
- Toto’s new renewed contract does not have performance clause - so he will be with merc even if he is not able to provide championship winning car to drivers
- Mercedes was not helping lewis with his other projects, Ferrari has opened its arms to support all of them helping make lewis 400M+ empire.
Ferrari will need to win now
The 8 titles with 3 teams? Now that’s what I call a legend
Im a ferrari fan, you are dreaming
You honestly believe their car will make up for their organizational incompetence? Lewis is going down the Vettel road
He already has 8 titles for me
@@JohnnyDrizzle luckily no one with a brain cares what you think since he has 7
That would be an impressive stat but also unlikely. Leclerc is a tougher teammate than Russell and Leclerc also has the advantage of being Ferrari's boy with the team around him. I honestly think the younger Leclerc will smoke him
As a Vettel fan and as a result a Ferrari fan, this is definitely a move I am interested in seeing where he will be comparing to Charles.
Different time can't compare, Seb got beaten by Charles during the worst Ferrari ever in 2020 just that Ferrari focused on one driver in car development & also Charles extracted the SF1000 mainly in qualifying
With Lewis i think he'll be more closer to Charles since Ferrari are in the best place in term of car performance than 2020. Lewis are in better place to try beat Charles than Seb in 2020 too
Got beaten by him in 2019 too
@@Lennon6412 It was more like a fight, 2020 was a complete whitewashed
@zariqeezham9210 It was closer because it was Charles' first season but generally he was slower.
In 2020 he was completely destroyed by him. It wasn't even close. Same happened in 2014.
I like Seb, but he is overrated.
@@Lennon6412 Im not defending Seb & calling him overrated is an overstretch, but im just saying Lewis is in the best place to beat Charles than Seb, Ferrari are in the best place rn with their car (3rd best) & Lewis confidence is way more upbeat than Seb in 2020
You can tell that toto is hurting inside from whats happeend bless him. Kinda feel for the guy :( ❤ ❤
Toto wasn't the problem at Mercedes.
Merc brought it on themselves.... crap car, didn't listen to LH, short contract. They made their decision, he made his.
When Hamilton was robbed of an 8th champion.. Toto rolled over and hit his tummy tickled... Didn't really fight for Hamilton. He probably never forgot this. First opportunity, he moved on

Feel quite sad for Toto and Mercedes. :(
Been hoping for a Mercedes/Hamilton comeback since that dark day in Abu Dhabi, very sad that its "probebly" not gonna happen.
One of the things that made me like Lewis was he's partnership with Toto, the feeling of loyalty, trust and the spirit of their winning mentality.
He knew mercedes ain't chasing no championships for a long time 😬
it does look very unlikely that Mercedes could contest the championship for some time. But then on the other hand, 20 years ago Lewis did say he wanted to race for Ferrari if he could.
As if Ferrari is chasing championships. 🤣🤣
@@ramakrishnamitta7024 They will be in a much better place next year and 2026 than Mercedes are and that's a fact.

🏎Ferrari 🏎Lets GOOOOOOOOO🏎
Where ? i watched the film 😂
Ngl toto looks upset and sounds upset
(Edit)
Mom I'm famous
Seems Mercedes is falling down. People started to leave and Lewis leaving after the season. May be a rough time fore then now.
And also. U never know if Toto also leaving after this season. This hurt him
They have the greatest run of success in F1 history, what an achievement.
He was with Pirelli in Milan
@@n00bma5ter69 not sure what that discussion can be that is more important than this. Shoulda been in person at Brackley and dial-in to the Pirelli meeting
@@EatonZ26 easier to hide your tears from the whole team…😂

It's obviously implied that Toto was told the move was done after leaving the UK. Lewis telling Toto in person in private in good faith and Toto making an announcement to the Brackley team are two different things.
He was at a Pirelli meeting in Milan. I also wouldn’t be surprised if went and tore Vassuer a new one as well lol
Netflix must be loving this for future editions of 'Drive to Survive'
All the greats should drive for Ferrari. Delighted that HAM is going to them.
Lewis always signed 2 year contracts, I think the team just started to take him for granted, weird stuff started to happen to his car at the end of the last season. Hope Ferrari banked their profits yesterday though, 5 bils!
They dont need to bank it.
Car sales rocketed last quarter.
Nothing to do with F1 side of things
They've had a fantastic journey; one of the, or if not, the greatest F1 team of all time.

Not a surprise because Merc was already showing their cards in terms of how they would manage the future. Just the fact that the team wasn't joining Lewis when he got podiums should tell you all you need to know.

Nah, they already said he doesn't need to, everyone speaks English there.
As a Ferrari fan and long time Lewis fan since his McLaren days, I saw this news as a win
Leclerc is a step up from Russell and he's Ferrari's boy. I'm sure we'll see some good scraps at Ferrari but I'm pretty confident in the assumption that Leclerc will beat him and that an 8th title with them is not going to happen. Still, probably the best move for Hamilton though considering Merc's trajectory

LH just wants to finish his career at the greatest team ever.. Despite his merc relationship and success at Mercedes, it just goes on to show everyone how monstrously legendary and iconic Ferrari is, for everyone, even Verstappen. Lesson to be learnt for the new kid fans of F1 :)

I’m a Hamilton fan pure and simple so nothing changes for me
Several people from Mercedes are joining Ferrari with Lewis in 2025. Lewis will have his own hand picked team around himself, a long contract and be paid more money - perfect move.
I’m not a Lewis or merc fan, but even i know Lewis is a Ferrari fan at heart.. so this move isn’t surprising at all
Bro is about to be a 10 time world champ. Not even joking.
Well it's simple really, stay at merc and slowly fade away OR join the red and have a shot at creating major f1 story/history.
Had to be done ❤ now or never… Lewis deserves it and be even more legendary ✊🏾❤️👌
It's good news for Lewis and also for Charles, potentially. I think it will bring excitement both this and next season for the fans. Nice shake up.

I am pumped, in conor mcgregors voice as ferrari, "without us this hole f1 goes down"
I wish Lewis Hamilton all the best in his Quest with Ferrari

The 2024 silly seasn is going to be one for the ages. What a shake up we're in for. Where will carlos go. Who do Merc replace lewis with. I think i read 13 contracts are up.

In 2022, Mercedes might not have cared if Lewis left, as it looked like George was faster, but in 2023, Lewis showed his class and put question marks about Russell’s ultimate pace into Mercedes’ minds.
Love the AMGs driving past in the background. Never miss a chance for free advertising.
