I’d say it started with Capito and Dorlinton. Dorlinton gave them stability, Capito gave them back their spirit. Vowles now is giving them direction. The car last year was mainly Capito and Demaison, but you could see the race operations improving already. Let’s see where they are in a couple of years, but it looks good

I have now retired, having been the Programme Director for this and other motorsport and automotive MSc courses at Cranfield but I still maintain contact with alumni, many of whom have gone onto successful careers in motorsport. I am proud of the achievements of James and his peers. People, behaviours and culture are key to success as is honesty and James exhibits this.

First of all, his voice is mesmerizing. Can't help but listen to whatever it is he is saying. Second, he has amazing insights. Honestly did not expect the extremely high intelligence. I truly admire James. Up until he took on his current role at Williams, I never really paid much attention to him. But since then, I listened to many of his interviews and it was a revelation. This guy is genuine, passionate, has very high moral values, he is very smart and wise. He walks the talk. I am confident that he will succeed in bringing Williams back to their winning ways. He is a great leader.
He has always had something trusting about him in the debriefs he used to do, you didnt feel it was the PR BS from him, he felt the loses and mistakes like we did.
This is a really good interview, with great insight with regards to a teams life cycle. I was taken aback with these parts, 31:06 & 36:00 as it was profound and helped me understand Lewis a little bit. Lewis was all about the wins at any cost, but when he migrated from McLaren to Mercedes, there was a clear shift in mind set. So going back to what James said about culture and being the person you want others to be, indicates they had the right recipe for the 'secret sauce'.
"Lets Bring it in and call it a day, LETS LOOK AFTER YOU" oh to hear this from your boss when your career is at risk and you have to retire early in exhausting race as a rookie, speaks volumes about the man that james vowles is.
That is one of those moments that really solidified him as a leader for me - and I am sure for others, too. That's the "I will follow you anywhere we need to go" stuff - and I am sure it had the same effect on Logan.

Its abt the investments too…. Frank Williams didn’t want to invest in what needed to be invested in unfort. That did hold them back after the hybrid engines and ground floor regs came in play. James is lucky that the American investment company DOES want to invest in the team. He can finally make changes….

Interesting what James quoted toto said about f1 engineering. I was once sat in a meeting with one of the godfathers of Norwegian offshore rig engineering and he said in a meeting. “The limitations of engineering are imagination and money and if the former is good enough the later will never be an issue!” Very similar philosophy

My thoughts on this situation is given the link between Mercedes and Williams James has been put into the role of team principle at Williams to learn and find his feet for a few years before moving back to Mercedes replacing Toto who will step down. Toto said he is already planning his successor so it makes sense for that to be James.

I have always maintained that F1 is an engineering competition, not a drivers Championship. All things being equal, the driver in the fastest, most controllable car will win. James is obviously talented and driven, but boy, I wouldn't want to go on holiday, or to a bar with this chap. He would bore the hell out of me. Nothing to talk about but his F1 and his job.
I don't think Williams will be fighting for higher points (6th and up), at least not most of the time, but I do think they can bring the fight to Alpine for that 6th in constructors. James has brought something special to the team, a vision perhaps, that can bring the team back up the grid and who knows what will happen in 2026. I have a very good feeling about Williams for the first time since... maybe 2014?
Im pretty sure James is pne of the intelligentest blokes in F1 in general, but always downplays it and stay humble. I hope he get Williams back in shape but also konda want him to return to Mercedes after Toto steps back as principal.
I would love to know his own thoughts on AD21, and that win, when he mentions 1997, its so true, we remember negative things so much easier, unless it changes, and I dont think it will, forever people will know rules were broke in a Sport that loves rules, say a rear wing a few mm out in Brazil, but proper rules broken and nothing happened, no one will ever forget that.
Rules were also broken when Lewis didn't get reprimanded for impeding mazepin in ad fp3. Both drivers got massive favours done for them, and to think anything else is just bias talking.

I don't think Williams will be fighting for higher points (6th and up), at least not most of the time, but I do think they can bring the fight to Alpine for that 6th in constructors. James has brought something special to the team, a vision perhaps, that can bring the team back up the grid and who knows what will happen in 2026. I have a very good feeling about Williams for the first time since... maybe 2014?

this man will win a WC with Williams.
Im pretty sure James is pne of the intelligentest blokes in F1 in general, but always downplays it and stay humble.
I hope he get Williams back in shape but also konda want him to return to Mercedes after Toto steps back as principal.
I would love to know his own thoughts on AD21, and that win, when he mentions 1997, its so true, we remember negative things so much easier, unless it changes, and I dont think it will, forever people will know rules were broke in a Sport that loves rules, say a rear wing a few mm out in Brazil, but proper rules broken and nothing happened, no one will ever forget that.
And I could listen to him read a menu.
Rules were also broken when Lewis didn't get reprimanded for impeding mazepin in ad fp3.
Both drivers got massive favours done for them, and to think anything else is just bias talking.
