Greetings from the future! I have a weird build, a Delta Ray I've converted to brushless, with an Omnibus F4 Nano running iNav 3.0.2, GPS, and FPV. I had to mount the FC upside down, but when I fired up the configurator to set the orientation, imagine my confusion when that wasn't even an option! I saw the new flight modes in the Wiki, but found no reference for folks with inverted FC's in their planes. I went old-school, and set the alignment in the CLI (one more degree, reboot, two degrees the other way, reboot) using the "get board" command and working out roll, pitch, and yaw from there. I can report back that if you're like me, with an oddball FC mount, you can go the "old way" and set alignment there, if you're unsure.
I've yet to use the "autolevel" mode combined with the other auto-leveling flight modes, but that's up next. Am I wrong for setting everything mechanically and electronically as close to neutral as possible, with constant servo trimming and autolevel mode being available?

    • @Painless360

INAV needs a well setup plane mechanically to work well. Check out my full INAV 3.0 fixed wing build for all the steps I use. I usually add some board alignment offset for the pitch to give it a little nose up in flight for the maiden.. Best of luck!

Lee, do you need to do auto level on each flight before switching to Manual for the trims to be there? You said it does not have a save function, How can we save the trims so in a future flight we can launch in manual right away if we want and have the trims already there? Does the save on the multifunction SH switch save the trims?

Thanks for the video. Question - let's say an FC is mounted at a slightly downward tilt. Autolevel will correct this in horizon mode to remove any pitch down movement. However, in acro mode will the horizon indicator on the osd be below the actual horizon? I'm assuming adjusting the pitch trim value in cli will correct this? How is this value discoverable after flying with autolevel in horizon? Also, you mentioned other pilots aren't even looking at adjust pitch trim does that mean they aligned their board perfectly for level flying?

@@Painless360 thanks so much for the quick response... You mean you don't use the horizon in the osd? I thought the horizon drift issue doesnt only affect the actual horizon graphical representation on the osd, but also the actual attitude of the airplane (what the fc at that moment thinks is acutally true level to use as a reference point for stabilization). nevertheless its great news that they improved upon it. Hello, congratulations on the content! I would like to ask a question. Is Auto Level a flight mode that I should only use once so that it finds the necessary parameters and then saves them or can I always leave it on when I fly together with Angle or Horizon? In case you have to turn it off after defining the parameters, these parameters are automatically saved as with the option "continuously trim servos on Fixed Wing? Thanks in advance!

I was under the impression that auto level was to be used like auto trim? Or thats what I thought I heard in the dev discussion. Its uses barometric data to level out pitch and re align the board over a "hands off control" period like auto trim did. This process overwrights the board align pitch value which is why it is not present in the GUI

Rewatching this and several of Pavel's videos to spot the best way to make sure my model is leveled the way I want it. No, I'm not going to trust the iNav dev team yet :) This is easy for a quad but for a wing or big bulky airplane I'm finding it quite hard to set and verify level is "where I want it" via the Setup tab. I was always able to dial this in and become confident before a first flight by tweaking the board alignment and pitch/roll offsets... the pitch trim doesn't seem to affect the Setup tab appearance for me which has left me concerned....

I'm a bit confused. Just so I'm clear, why/in what circumstances would I need/want to adjust the pitch in the CLI (or PID-mechanics page as of Inav 3.0.1) if I am going to use autolevel anyway (assuming I only really ever fly in Horizon mode)? is fw_level_pitch_trim only relevant if I'm going to fly manual?

    • @Painless360

I tend to use it to set the offset initially to make sure that the autolaunch works well and the 'plane has enough 'up' to easily climb then let the level mode fine tune it. Once it is set I never revisit it.

I appreciate all the good videos you have been making. They have been super helpful! I have donated $20 to your Paypal account. Just seeing if you had any suggestions on an issue I'm having?
I had a Ranger 2000 with an H743-Wing flight controller and all modes worked great. I recently got the Ranger 2400 and I am getting really frustrated trying to get RTH to work properly.
Once I flip the RTH switch it rolls extremely hard and almost goes into a death spiral until I flip the manual switch and get it leveled off. I have played around with different RTH settings (Current, At Least, At Least Linear Descent) but it still behaves the same way. I even adjusted the max bank and pitch angle to 10 degrees.
I have not done Autotune yet beacuse I didnt need to do it on the Ranger 2000 but I'm running out of options to get my new plane working properly.

So watching this video i now understand where and when to use auto level, but isn't it kinda redundant if you already are using continuous auto trim? Or is it the tool that opens the pathway for the feedback from the gyros and gps? Maybe its me but it just isn't clear.

    • @Painless360

Auto level is for pitch settings in stabilise modes for maintaining height. Servo trim is for manual and acro.. happy flying

Im 3 days in trying to fix on problem and have to give up and ask for my sanity. In angle+level/horizon+level the plane flicks to perfectly level and then gently drifts down and right. To me this is vibration but i cant see how i can find that vibration in the blackbox. Im completely lost

Hi friend!, I m a newbie on Inav and F7, now I just installed the 3.0.1 firmware on my new Matek F7, (before I watched this video), so, before the maiden, I m very concern and worry about my manual mode , because its just adjusted visually and manually, and of course, when in the airborne I switched it , then will be a disaster, and panic, so, do you recommend me the maiden throw the wing in ANGLE ? (or maybe in ACRO) and then if it survived the first meters climbing, then How can I trim my Manual mode? having that autolevel mode in combination at the same time with ANGLE ? so If I understand you well, it will autrim my manual trims too ? thank you .... and waiting for very appreciate answers...regards.

I have a Matek765 and it has firmware 2.3, so as i understood the uprade sequence to 3.0 is as this:?
2.3 to 2.6 and then to 3.0. It's not possible to do it straight from 2.3 to 3.0 ?
And the FC MUST have firmware 3.0 to get the connection with INAV-Configurator ?

I have a request, you have already mentioned that you only fly certain boards with iNav. Could you do a vid where you have autolaunch set up and do a battery's worth of takeoff and landings in a row. I ask this because taking off and flying a batt IS different to doing repeated take offs. This is where I came a cropper - I was so chuffed with the auto take off that I did another then another, and thats when it did a nose in. I know you have an autolaunch vid already but this is different. I really want to do another iNav build but this is putting me off. Maybe I should have been happy with the first launch and just flown it. I had no issues in actual flight etc, and I do love the computer set up aspect of it.
