I first started this amazing hobby with a quad, the eachine wizzard x220, almost 5 years ago. I know build and fly my own gear. But there's always something special about flying a fixed wing or a plane. Longer flight times and a different perspective. I do love my quads, but fixed wings and planes are amazing.
I'm really pumped to see fixed wing content! This is what I first wanted to get into and then got into quads because they were a little easier to manage. But I've been flying fixed-wing fpv for a couple of years now and really like it
You're gonna love it! I've been flying quads since 2014 and added wings in 2018 and still fly both! It's two different experiences and both are equally exciting!
I was flying fixed wing while flying quads but the quads took over but I think it’s to get back into fix wings again. Great video. Would love to see more wing videos
You couldn't re-arm because you still had autotrim enabled. There is a feature in Inav called "continuously trim servos" this will automatically trim servos when in a stabilized mode like acro, angle etc. Sticks need to be centered.
I’ve always been wing curious! I have an irrational fear of dolphins, but that thing looks pretty cool and flies pretty stable (for a wing). Thanks for sharing!
The Arc dolphin is such a great plane. Was my first fpv plane and it was so forgiving as well as having so many 3d parts to print for it to upgrade and modify!
Thanks for putting up this video!! I've always liked the idea of flying wings, but because I wear glasses it makes it really hard to launch them without Auto Launch. I had a Dolphin sitting in the box, never assembled, in my workroom - I had a bad experience trying to get a wing in the air once a few years ago and never really tried again. This video convinced me to build it up with INAV. I haven't had this much fun flying anything in years - Auto Launch is perfect every time so far with your settings (I upped the throttle to 1850 though).
I got into wings last week after few years flying quads. Unfortunately, after some maintenance, i mounted the camera upside down and lost the plane after panicking and doing everything wrong to get it back eventho i only had to hit RTH... Very newbie style and i felt very stupid. I have another one on the way already, loving the relaxing kind of flight we can have with those:) By the way, I had the pleasure to fly with you in china at the bando island with the "skidoosh team" :) Peace!
Hi Paul, I love Fix-wing, I have been flying RC Airplanes since 71, but my first FPV Fix-wing I used a Eachine all-in-one and EV-100, I just finished my AR Pro and I have a F405, Caddx Ratel starlight and AKK DOMINATOR V2 3w VTX. Thanks for the video and information
Nice to see some fixed wing flights on the channel. And excellent to see you using auto launch as it was intended; and not shaking the plane. So many people do that and share the bad habit. Idle throttle and throw it, and you get perfect launches. Before you go for the waypoint stuff, I’d recommend you check out the auto level feature. It is a tuning mode that will get your angle of attack for the current throttle dialled. Just enable it at the same time as Angle or CRSH and let it go hands off for 5-10 seconds. You’ll see the altitude stabilise pretty nicely. That just adds another level of tuning before heading off on the mission. Hope you have loads more fun with the fixed wings. That Dolphin is a pretty capable and versatile platform.
Oh yeah. The re-arming in flight. You can do it. You may have been blocked by autotrim or autolaunch. One problem with DJI is that it won’t be showing you system messages that would give you clues as to why it can’t re arm. In general though, autolaunch off, throttle low, and be in a basic flight mode. I do have a video on my channel how you can add 2 lines of programming in iNav Configurator that will let you instantly re arm. You could even be full throttle.
For me fixed wings is wayyyyy more fun than quads. More range, More Flight time, easier to repair if something goes bad and much less hazzle with tuning and all that stuff. There is a reason why I have a whole FPV RC Channel (not this one here) that is basically 80% about INAV and fixed wings.
I fly most things from quads to fixed wing, so love this content. ive got flite test models all the way up to a mini talon, but the two things i love the most are my homemade foam wings with an fpv pod on it that can be swapped from plane to plane and my bixler 2 which is now more hot glue and tape than foam! lol
I got started with Josh and Josh, Flite Test, and foamies. I wonder how many quad pilots started that way. I've been thinking about getting out a wing, but I don't look forward to inevitable firmware and RX upgrades.
Love the wing content. I fly both wings and quads and enjoy them both. You should be able to rearm mid flight in INAV. I e done it many times without an issue.
You can rearm in flight. I've just done it. I disarmed by mistake then pull the throttle all the way down and you now can rearm. I was lucky it was at higher altitude. That was scary. Maybe there is a setting that prevents it by default, not sure.
I have been loving fpv hd on my sport planes the most. So responsive you can get out of most proxy situations easily. My hd fpv 70mm edf thunderbird is a lot of fun too.
Love the fixed wing coverage! When you have time do some setup stuff, please. Thanks for doing something different. After a couple weeks watching Rotor Riot schilling for Fat Shark, I needed something to watch.
Wow, great timing. I am in the process of putting together a 250g iNav setup- just waiting on a few more bits and pieces to arrive. More, please! Was already subscribed, but now am double subscribed? Or something?
Hi!! I just put together and flew an old plane BIXLER II with at Speedy Bee controller, the 405 FC. with INAV 7.0. Everything worked very well. GPS, RTH. but Autolaunch. Everything on the OSD is working, I get the System status indications, "Move the throttle up and launch", however the motor does not get to IDLE. The system is prompting me to hand launch, but I did not since the motor was not idling, not spinning at all. I noticed that in normal conditions the motor starts turning when the Joystick is at 25% approx. The CLI commands are: Launch Thr 1750 Launch idle Thro = 1300 Launch Velocity = 150 Launch Accel = 1500 Launch max angle = 180 Launch detect time = 40 Launch idle motor delay = 0 Launch motor delay =100 Launch spinup time =100 Launch end time =3000 Launch min time =0 Launch timeout =10000 Launch Max altitude =0 launch climb angle= 18 I guess I am missing a setting, or there is something with the throttle setting since the motor starts spinning up at 25% of Joystick in manual mode Let me know if you have suggestion
More videos about the fixed wings please, ive just ordered the AR wing as my first wing, ill be using an old air unit I have so almost the same setup as you have here
its all good you may have learned since then, yes i can dis arm and re arm all time in air and you must have a error on screen why it wont arm may be a navigation or flight mode error try going back to acro or manu to arm with no nav modes like loiter or auto trim or auto tune. good flight and video!
I love putting my wings in loiter and taking my goggles off to have a chat with the flying buddies. Or using launch mode to just throw it up over my head no-look style.
That's awsome man great flight. How do you get that distance with the air unit I have it in my geprc mark 5 and I can't get that distance am I doing something rong?
If you would have a proper OSD on this crap DJI stuff you would have seen the warning that you cannot Re-Arm because Autotrim was still on xD But nice try. And glad to see someone using autolaunch properly instead of wanking off their plane. Nice vid!
Stinger - how robust are the autotuned PID settings to variations in airspeed? With a quad this is not an issue, but the authority of fixed wing control surfaces depends a lot on the airspeed. Can iNav be set up to measure airspeed with pitot tube and use this to modify the PIDs? (p.s. got my start in FPV with ritewings, but back in those days we just wired the receiver directly to the servos!)
Is there any way to make a wing less squirrely and smoother in the air like a quad? Why do they get bumped around so much? I've seen some rc airplanes that are smooth? How/why are they able to do that and these wings aren't? Is it a weight thing?
Had my first attempt a few days ago. Definitely had more learning to do as my plane got to meet my hot glue gun after 2 seconds in the air. Auto launch couldn't save it from my bad config.
Just enable "constant auto trim".......Then fly straight and level for a few seconds......Thats it. Switch to Manual to check it. I can't believe you disarmed Mid flight......lol.....😮😮😮😮
Much prefer large non-molded EPP wings like those from Crashtest hobby or Defiance Wings or cut yourself. Fly them at 15mph in closed spaces or 100+mph out in the open. Larger wing area with good aerodynamics is the way to go.
You couldn't rearm in flight because the Auto Launch was still enabled. Just set Auto Launch to "always on" as a feature (not as a mode), and if you don't want to Auto Launch, just wiggle the right stick after arming to disable Auto Launch.
@@BuddhaFpv In flight, disarm, Throttle low, arm, wiggle right stick (mode2), throttle up. Arming angle setting needs tot be 180. Maybe that's why you can't arm? (Or disarm/arm 10 times to override all errors)
Mr. Stingray Swamers. Can the automatic dolphin have inside pixhawk. I want to automatic it to launch so I can FPV. I want it return to home when it’s out of the rang in failing safe. You got to run a neck strap with wings. It keeps you from accidentally throwing the radio instead of the wing 😜
Never! lol I just don't like the feeling of them hanging off my neck
😂😂
My Radio just fell hard few days ago - luckily just scratches and dents but no real demage... Now? Strap 😬
fixed wing with pan tilt setup and head tracking is an absolute dream, even just pan tilt on sliders is great
Absolutely 100% Love flying Fixed Wing FPV. You've got me keen to get back on the wings again! I believe Thomas just got his hands on a Dolphin!
Dolphin is such an easy wing to build and fly. Very forgiving with the CG and can run with a variety of setups.
I first started this amazing hobby with a quad, the eachine wizzard x220, almost 5 years ago. I know build and fly my own gear. You can let it hang in Pos Hold mode, change the TX module and fly one of your analog quads and chase it.
Or program a mission!

Fantastic flying, Stingy!!! 😃

Nice of shelby to share his spot :D
I enjoyed this video I could of happily watched more

Fixed wing fpv rules it the best of both worlds
