I think the book in 8 should be the "save the animals" of zelda speedrunning.
I kind of love how they kept the beginning 7:30 run before the game froze. Still impressed by you, Lack Attack.

Now that I've been inside the Zelda 1 community for over a year, I love hearing all the small things throughout this run that make so much more sense and make the run that much more entertaining.

My first time playing this game, when I fought Manhandla, the boss of level 3, I actually got the one-shot on my first try. That was a pretty good day.
Amazing marathon run, one of my favorites of this AGDQ. The precision and skill required to do the screen scroll glitch that consistently is unreal

@@joeyblowey3460 I wouldn't have believed that as a kid either is the thing. To think we've not only come that far but so far beyond is kind of nuts. Speed running is really cool.

+Sollykun It could just be that the battery needs replaced. I have seen these older carts go all wonky when those batteries are close to dead since they were never intended to be run dry, and he has to access that save space that the battery maintains every time he plays. A good test would be to run this cart off of a Retron console since those temporarily downloads the rom, rather than playing directly from the cart and use an SD card for saving. If it runs without an issue then you know the cart should be fine. If it's the battery it's a super easy fix.
I remember renting this on a Friday afternoon and trying to beat it before returning on Sunday afternoon. Much less 30 minutes.

Now I see the real inspiration of Binding of Isaac game. There's a lot of elements which is obviously a reference to the original Zelda game, and I've never known til now. Plus, it's a very fun run to watch, too. :)

WTF ok this is not a joke: I was watching this video on my mobile phone and when he blew the hype train whistle a freaking pidgeon from outside reacted to it. It kept making pidgeon sounds it even landed on at my window searching for the source of the sound maybe it thought that was another pidgeon or something.

+Packages Up+A is a "save and quit" command when done on the second controller. It's used to warp back to the start of the game to save time, but is a different category than what was done here.

I need to know who the 32 people who disliked an absolutely ridiculous run in the greatest game ever during a no reset fundraiser run to benefit cancer research. Lmao. SHOW YOURSELVES
These old cartridges are finicky. Maybe serious speedrunners should consider buying a flash cartridge, a cartridge ripper, make backup image of cartridge and flashing the backup image of the game into it. Maybe a bit expensive, but would guarantee reliability.
Runs are only considered legal if performed on original hardware
The hardware running the game would be original, only the storage medium from which the game program and data is loaded is switched.
Ryan Pawelko: This is not true. Each game's community decides what is allowed and what is not. Most retro communities I know of allow Flashcarts, emulation, Virtual Consoles, etc.
Also using a Flashcart is using original hardware (runs the original ROM on original hardware). Same thing.

Some of these runners called it the breakfast room...I think because the orange sponges look like pancakes?
It's the breakfast "room."
The Like Likes resemble stacks of pancakes, the Zols are sausages, and the Bubbles are fried eggs.
What do they mean no up+a?
Pressing Up+A on controller 2 brings up the continue screen (normally seen after a game over), allowing them to instantly jump to either the dungeon entrance or the overworld's starting point.

This is a legit speedrun. If you’re looking for a glitchless speedrun, there are different categories for that.
