The problem with phones is we need them not just for recording. All day recording will kill the battery on your phone. It just doesn't work well on a long trip when you want to get a lot of content.
Exactly, can’t beat the portability and features of the pocket 3. The main advantage of the iPhone on the gimbal would be the additional lenses (if you have enough light to compensate for the smaller sensors)
@ 👍 glad you found other uses for that gimbal! Should serve you well. I have been enjoying the pocket for the convenience, and the image quality is great (especially at lower ISOs) My bigger gimbals stay at home most of the time now.
I have actually been deciding between the Pocket 3 and this Hohem M7, as I see a lot of crossover in their uses. I have several gimbals, amongst them, the Hohem MT2 (heavy and more to balance), M6 (no extension) and V3 (lower motor strength). I use the Hohem M6 with my phone, GoPro (with elastic bands to secure), RX0 ii, and M43 cameras. To avoid extra weight and balancing time, I have been pushing the M6 to the limit, using it with my Lumix GM1 (M4/3 sensor) and 12-32 kit lens, so ill appreciate the stronger G7 motors. I'm picking the M7 up instead of, or at least before the pocket 3 because it has a lower cost, has a detachable screen, can work without any app, and will likely with its stronger motors, let me use different small cameras (with elastic bands), as I did with the M6. I also like that all 3 motors of the gimbal can be turn on/off individually for more customization. Wondering if Hohem will do a similar upgrade to theur MT2 gimbal. Thank you for the review, Terry.
This is a fantastic gimbal. Love the remote and tracking. I have an M6 and didnt think I needed to update. I was wrong - totally worth it. It also tracks pets really well.
I had a previous version - tried it out for a while ..and I thought it was decent, but the I decided on the Osmo 3 and the mics and it was a much more fluent process.
I DO .. see how it's great for people who stream live on Socials using a phone with a gimbal .. I do miss that part of these. Using both would be a great solution.. tho .. yea.. costs.
I really would love DJI to come up with something like this. I bought the OM4 years ago when it came out in 2020. However I didn't really use it since all the DJI gimbals were more geared towards iPhone. My Samsung phone at the time was locked to 4k30, 8x digital zoom, no access to the ultra wide camera, no slow motion. If I wanted to use any of those features, I would have to use the Samsung Native camera but the loose other features of the gimbal like tracking because for that I needed to use FJI Mimo. If DJI can come up with the OM7 that has an AI tracking camera with a fill light like this, oh I'd pick one up in a flash
It looks very good, but I still have my doubts about whether the camera button of the iPhone will remain accessible. Considering the clamp is quite large and there might not be enough space for it on an iPhone 16 Pro(???)
Awesome video , makes me excited to see awesome new gear like this I didn’t like the insta360 flow, didn’t care about the DJI osmo 6 this to me feels like a complete gimbal from start to finish
The M7 is cool and all but the thing just attracts too much attention if you were to take it out in public. The pocket 3 is perfect for vloggers for being small and it gets better battery life than on your phone. There's also the limited storage space on a phone and some of them can overheat and stop recording.
It's cool but beware.....the clamps on the V3 don't hold my iPhone16 Pro with a Moment case on it. The clamps need redesigned. The clamps on this look exactly the same so I doubt this will hold it well either. Other than that looks like a great gimbal though. Love the tracking and the detachable monitor is pretty sweet (although I'm worried it won't/doesn't stay in there securely.
It looks like a very good product, but i wonder if recording with an iPhone would affect its battery in the long run with constant use. At least i don't spend all day with the phone, much less recording
I love the work man! I think the app for the DJI gimbal allows the phone and gimbal to work together. But, I don't know if it has all the camera functions. Roast me if I'm wrong.
True. I just rewatched the last few minutes. I think I misunderstood what you were saying about the app controlling more than the gimbal. Is there any Android love for this device? Edit: nevermind. I just found it. Thanks again for the review!
1. A TH-cam video title should not be able to frustrate you. It’s just a….youtube title 2. It’s not as far as a stretch as you might think. If you take a look at my Osmo Pocket 3 vs iPhone 16 Pro, there are a lot of reasons some MIGHT want to go with the iPhone over a OP3. The gimbal makes the proposition even more tough because this adds stabilization and tracking, just like the OP3 does.
@@TerryWarfield I actually bought this instead of the pocket 3 because it fit my uses much better, so not a far stretch at all. I will get a pocket 3 (or 4 if it's out) eventually, but I can do so much with my phone over a vlogging camera for now.
Sup y'all! Home just announced the new iSteady M7 smartphone gimbal, loaded with higher payload, a built in selfie stick, advanced subject tracking and more! Maybe not for you, but maybe you should take a look in the comments, not everyone feels like you. So maybe it’s more than just a sponsored ad after all. And what’s the problem with it being a sponsored ad anyways
Nice gimbal, no doubt. But, for $300, it should be. Pocket 3 replacement? Really? Not even a legitimate question. A P3 weighs 180g and fits in my pocket! This thing weights 2 kg and does not fit in a pocket, and takes up 1/2 of suitcase to pack. As they say in football, Come On, Man!
I mean sure. Would I give mine up for one? Absolutely not. But for everyone of us that loves their Osmo, there’s another person that prefers their phone and this thing gives them that plus the tracking and smooth footage. My point is just because it’s not your ideal solution doesn’t mean that it’s NOT the ideal solution for others, ya feel me?
Osmo Pocket 3 should be upgraded sooner than its usual 2-3 year interval. I wish they released a professional version to address its weaknesses and transform it into a viable professional tool rather than just a vlogging gadget. By the way, Hohem iSteady M7 is an incredibly cool smartphone or action cam gimbal, but it’s significantly bulkier compared to the Osmo Pocket TBH.
Totally wrong comparison. Nowadays the phone is very important than camera. Phone is for work, call and important stuff. If you loose mobile you are worry about so much than loosing only camera.
The problem with phones is we need them not just for recording. All day recording will kill the battery on your phone. It just doesn't work well on a long trip when you want to get a lot of content.

Great video; I love your energy. I got my gimbal three days ago, and I'm excited about all the things this M7 will do. Stay warm.
I will say it’s tough I’ve dropped the m6 many times and it kept on trucking! Not sure if I would give up the pocket 3 tho..

The osmo pocket is a gimic, it does the same thing as a phone and gimbal just smaller. I'll take a phone gimbal over it in a heart beat!!
Each def have their advantages, you aren’t wrong either way

You can trigger recording from the gimbal as long as you are using the Hohem Joy app
It will block that new button on the phone, but you don’t need it

Yep. The iPhone has perks as well tho
Does the removable screen work while using third party apps like IG, TikTok, etc?
Pretty sure it works with any app. It shows you what the AI tracker camera sees, which works as long as the gimbal is on.

I don't like using my phone to shoot my videos. I'll stick with the pocket 3.
Agreed
Can I use it on DJI Osmo action 5 Pro
I’ve seen another TH-camr use his with the Action 5.

nah, sticking with the Osmo 3. It’s less bulky and that’s very important to me
Luv it but still love my pocket 3 lol
I had the m6 it couldn’t handle my phone with the case on it for too long without overheating
This one is bumped up to 500g payload

Osmo Pocket 3 is a lot easier to use. No mounting and balancing needed. And OP3 is a lot smaller.
