    The confusion with UK knife laws is that knives aren't illegal like most people think... what makes a knife illegal is it's intended use, which is why it's legal to carry kitchen knives home from a store. It's all about common sense in how it's stored and used. For example... if you have a 6" knife in your pocket when walking around for self defence then it's illegal because the intended use for that knife is a weapon but if you carry an 8" bushcraft knife in a backpack to use in a campsite then that's perfectly legal because a knife is simply a tool nothing more. The law is you cannot carry more than a 3" blade on your person when in a public area unless you have a good enough reason for doing so, which basically means you can carry a knife over 3" if you have a good reason to. so it's just common sense

      This is a very smart comment and this is something I have though of too but then it's down to the cop that stops you to determine whether your reason is good or not regardless of you seeing it as good.
      What is a good reason?
      - It's for work.
      - It's a tool and I want to carry it.
      - I'm a knife reviewer to I need to use them to be able to review them (again for work)
      It's all stupid.

    In my military sling pack there is a..

    Lansky Tactical sharpening rod £17
    Puma Tec multi tool £23
    A generic mini med kit.
    A pack away waterproof cycling jacket.
    Mini wiipes
    And a Hyasia tungsten Tactical Pen LED light in my pocket £15.

    Knife rotates between Bestechman Mini Dundee, Twisted Assisted Junzi, Kizer Sheepdog mini, Spyderco UKPK HH edition or Civivi Foldis. Usually two of them tbh.
    Knipex Cobra XS,
    Olight Arkfeld Pro in orange,
    Custom Victorinox Compact with orange G10 scales,
    711L EDC Ratchet with 1/4” extension + Wera Bits
    Brass Fisher Spacepen Bullet
    Field Notes note book and a few other bits 😂
    EDIT:
    Kizer Vagnino is a slip joint that has the strongest backspring I’ve found. I think it would actually be difficult for it to close on me.
    Real Steel Luna, perfect little knife. Again, can’t see it ever closing on me-I’ve abused it too.
    HH CRKT Pilar-the big finger choil means it would never close.
    (All of the above IIRC are or were less than that piddly little TJB thing too)

    I disagree with you about slip joints. I actually find slip joints to be more dangerous. The reason being, when they do move, they move on their own - they fire out suddenly with a spring force, as if with a mind of their own. I've had accidents due to this. I find double-detents and friction-folders much safer because they move only under my own control.
    I've been going through a similar journey, obsessed with trying to find the perfect UK-legal EDC. For me, it needs to have either a thumb hole or flipper tab for proper one-handed opening - nail nicks and thumb studs are both awful. Double detent is preferred. MUST have some way to let me resist closure of the blade: 1. a front finger choil (with smoothed, not sharp corner), 2. a flipper tab, that acts as a finger guard, or 3. an extended tang that I can hold with my thumb/palm. I prefer the front finger choil out of these three options, as that also lets me close the knife easily, by pressing on the back of the blade with my thumb while holding it on the other side with my index finger.

    • @Ramesiel
      @Ramesiel หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also find half-stops like shown here with the James Brand knife to be a bit useless... At that position, they could already cause injury. If it's a slip joint knife, then I much prefer it to have a quarter-stop instead.

    • @corbenj
      @corbenj หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve always wondered this. People always argue about the “safety” but then never demonstrate how a non-locking knife can fold back. I’ve actually tried to fold my Victorinox knives back on myself and I can’t see how it’d happen.

    • @vihaanreyansh6244

      I guess it depends on the angle you're working with. A very long time ago, like 25 years, I was trying to remove the rubber coating on a panel that was underneath a counter, because behind it was wiring that I needed to get access too. I was using a folding knife that was my EDC at the time. I caught it at the wrong angle and it folded into my thumb slicing straight into the top of my thumb and about 1/3 of the way through my thumbnail. It was a shock, but it didn't hurt that much, I just wrapped it in toilet roll and carried on but after that I switched to a locking knife for my EDC, until they were banned. I carry a locking Stanley knife on me now because it's more useful for what I do and the cops won't give me too much trouble about it if they stopped me. We just got a new Labour government though and I've heard that they're coming after anything sharp, so my EDC is probably going to be relegated to a spoon in the near future!

    • @TedHowells
      @TedHowells  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This saved me trying to explain it haha but yes it is more when you are doing things at an angle to is slightly off and one little slip will make it bite lol! Yeah I'm not happy about the new government. Doesn't matter what they pass though, wont stop the idiots taking their parents kitchen knives to hurt each other

    • @vihaanreyansh6244
      @vihaanreyansh6244 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TedHowells What the UK governments never seem to appreciate is that every time they ban something they create a brand new criminal enterprise, it only serves to impair law abiding people and actually funds crime. If this new government goes ahead and makes fixed blade knives, swords and machetes completely illegal to buy or sell there 's nothing stopping anyone from popping to Homebase, picking up a strip of high carbon steel, cutting it into 5 pieces, shaping, sharpening and heat treating them, popping some rubber tape on them for a handle, you now have 5 knives you can sell to criminals that are more or less untraceable because literally anyone with a hacksaw. a grinder, half a clue and some propane can make them, someone with more tools than that can make them to a really high standard. The notion that the law can be used to impede criminals; a branch of society who make a life and career out of breaking the law is beyond stupid! But, we know they will do it anyway, because that's what they've always done 🤷‍♂.

    My current UK setup:
    Acebeam Pokelit AA flashlight (half lumen, medium and high output options, plus memory function for most recent setting)
    Shire Supply Co. custom wallet (with elastic along bottom edge to house my brass Fisher Space pen)
    Shire Supply Co. belt loop key clip
    Victorinox Classic in black (stored in 5th pocket of jeans)
    Seiko 5 Sport dive-watch
    Hurrah Lipbalm
    iPhone 13 Mini
    Field Notes mini notebook
    Mighty Hanks ‘Positive Vibes’ hank
    I don’t generally EDC a large knife but often have my Vertx Readypack which usually has either a SOG PowerPint or Leatherman Skeletool kit with it.
    Anyway, great video and nice to see an update of your load out.
    I’d love this James Brand knife if the pocket clip was reversible and they did the Coyote with a straight blade. I like the idea of having some large scissors too. Again, I have a SAK Super Tinker but alas, no pocket clip!

      @@nathski22 thanks mate! I do actually have a small Whitby slip joint I was carrying for a while but no clip so it did my head in in my pocket much like a SAK. Do Whitby have a pocket clip model that’s uk legal and similar to this?

      @TedHowells  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's a solid carry! I've been looking into Acebeam flashlights recently so I'll have to try one out soon.
      With the TJB ellis, I actually think that it works better as a left hand carry if that's what you wanted from the reversible clip. The way it is on the knife and how it comes out of the pocket for 2 hand opening I genuinely find better in the left pocket.
      Glad you like the video!

      @@TedHowells yeah since getting the Acebeam my flashlight rotation has been non-existent. For the price of an i3T EOS and a slightly larger size you get SO much more out of it! I’ts been a permanent carry for almost two years for me. That’s good to know re the knife as I do left-pocket carry. Thanks for the pointer! Looking forward to the next videos.

    Bro, you've gone from the Civivi Foldis detent knife (£80) to the even more expensive James BLAND slipjoint (£93) , when you can get the far superior and safer Spyderco UKPK, Urban, or Squeak for the same money. If you really want to splash out on an exceptional knife the Spyderco Lil"Native is great. A review is one thing, but your choice of personal carry knives sucks. Even the tiny Twisted Assited Tulip (£60) is far safer in the hand as it can't close on you. I have all five of those knives but my most regular EDC is the £35 Black Fox Bean Gen 2, which despite being a detent knife still can't close on you if you know how to use it. It's small, simple, strong, safe, discreet, and £35! Not super slicey, but stout and reliable.
